^ no, it wasnt that.. it just felt like it was hard to rub in or something :-\
but i've showered now, about 4 hours after putting it on, and i do like the color. i might put on another layer after work to sleep in because i like being darker.

It's definitely not orangey. It's actually kind of greenish until it washes off. At least the ultra dark is. It is a very natural brown color.

My tan looks blotchy as hell! Even after I memorized every damn direction on sunless.com I must have super exfoliating skin, because after a few days it goes from looking awesome to disqusting!
Emily

maybe you just need to just scrub it all off and start fresh.
I just had a thought though...When you towel dry after a shower, you pat instead of wipe? You gotta pat.

You gotta put it on every few days. I actually haven't had much blotchiness though, and I shave daily and take 3 showers a day as well.

A little before and after action fo that ass. These won't be up for long so get while the gettin' is good. And don't hate when I take them down.
Now then.
I LOVE THIS SHIT. It is green when it goes on. That's the truth. But you have to understand that the "color guide" in the shit (the pigment that helps you apply it evenly) is not meant to stay on your skin. You apply it, say, before bed, then wash it off in the morning. I was kinda disappointed the day after I applied because I looked orange out in the daylight. But I realized it was just the color guide stuff. After I washed that off I was left with an awesome tan. The best I've ever had from a bottle.
Also, I am very pale (evidenced in the before photo) and I was really scared that this was like hardcore shit that was gonna fuck me up. Nope. I just used it a small amount and got the perfect amount of color.

what shade did you use dottie?
Dottie Rebel
07-09-2008, 02:22 AM
their mid-range shade, which is inappropriately named Ultra Dark.
i.breathe.in
07-09-2008, 02:25 AM
im about as pale as you, do you think the darkest shade would be too much and are you going to try another layer of it to see if you can get darker?
im having a hard time deciding which shade i want medium or dark.
Dottie Rebel
07-09-2008, 02:39 AM
Emily used the darkest and she came out pretty much like me. I think it's just a matter of application. If I had spread mine on thick, I'd be way darker. I prefer to use the medium color and layer it. The medium one is their best seller, so I don't think you can go wrong. Plus, if you order from the link Jasmine posted and you don't like it, you can exchange it for something else.

Wait...the darkest is called 'very dark' while the medium is called 'ultra dark'?
That don't make no kinda sense. :O
Now I'm confused and forget which one I ordered.

The sunsation is almost like a whole different line of darker colors. So it fucks up the descriptions. Just remember Sunsation=darkest though.

I have the aerosol bottle of this stuff, has anyone else used this? I'm either gonna try it tonight or tomorrow night and if I'm really on the ball, I'll take some before and after pics... I hope it works well! I've gotta be in a bathing suit on Sat.
Thanks to everyone for posting pics and info!

omg, I have a feeling this isn't gonna work out very well!!!! I wanted to cry when I started putting it on one arm....... some of the aerosal came out in bigger drops than the rest and it didnt look very even, so I started rubbing it arond with my hand. That hand proceeded to get instantly STAINED by the stuff (I scrubbed with soap and water and lemon juice and my palm is still pretty much browny-orange.) Ok, so I keep going, spraying my body..... as I'm going though, it starts DRIPPING down, not staying in one place at all. I didn't even put that much on, just enough to have a even coat all over....... :-[
I guess most of you have used the cream not the spray but if anyone else out there has used the spray, please respond! I guess only time will tell if this is a disaster or not bad..........
I love the smell and the fact it goes on dark so you can see where you've done.
I just don't love the fact that this stuff dripped all over me and might turn out sooo streaky. It's definitely looking dark, like when I got a spray tan, so that's good too. I'm trying to be optimistic here, and hope that the tan magicallyevens out somehow :-\

well, I didn't get the spray, but I've used them before and I still wear gloves. Gloves are essential.

07-09-2008, 09:24 AM
cool...... what kind of gloves? All i see at stores are the scrubby shower type gloves...
Emily
07-09-2008, 09:29 AM
just regular latex gloves. You keep them on the whole time you are applying tanner. Then, when you are done, take the gloves off and put a little on the back of your hands and rub them together.

i'm so glad i didnt order the spray then. i have used sephora's brand of spray tanner before and LOVED it.. you didnt have to rub anything in or use your hands at all. i would've been mega disappointed if i was expecting that and got what was described above.
i'll probably put another coat on tonight after work (if i'm feeling ambitious.. i said that the other night too) but i went tanning today because sometimes i feel like its too much work to use self tanner. yeah, i'm lazy and would rather sleep in a tanning bed. :D

^I know, right? Jeezus.
Well I got my 'medium' ultra dark or whatever today. And some 'dark' very dark cans of spray.
I'm pissed because I thought I ordered the super fucking mega leather tan. And it was the medium. Why can't they label it properly? Oh well. I'm pale as a ghost so it should look natural anyway. Maybe the tropical look isn't so appropriate for an Irish girl.

Ive been using this stuff for months! I get mine from Ulta. It is the absolute best tanner ever!! Im never orange.
When I rub it in I try to look directly at the skin instead of the mirrors reflection then it goes on much more smooth and evenly since its kinda thick and bronzy.

To get that dark stain off your hands try and use a pumice stone it will work no matter how rubbed in the color is. I learned that the hard way my first time.

The only sunless tanning I have ever used at home was a GlowFusion Airbrush system... Never used a lotion. Do I use less on my knees/elbows/undersides of my arms? I need all the tips!! :) I know to exfoliate first, that is about it! What about my face?

Ok, little update: It's not AS bad as it seemed last night when it was dripping all over me.... I did use a pumice to try and scrub it off my palms (thanks for the tip), but then it got a little blotchy around my wrists cuz I tried to scrub the orange away from there and then it's hard to get it to go away evenly if you know what I mean.... sigh.. the joys of sunless tanning!!!!>:(
I'm gonna do another very light spray tonight around the areas that are whiter or patchy. I love the darkness of it!!!! If I remember correctly, it's even darker than when I got airbrush tans back home! ;D
I think I have the "Dark" color- so that's the darkest? It says "Self Tanning Micro Mist Ultra Dark Instant Tint" and then in an orange block on the bottom "Dark". So I'm assuming "Dark" is the shade..
Yay! I haven't been this tanned in a long time, so even if it's not a perfect tan, I'm happy! I'll try and do before and after for ya later.

Even when I airbrush tan, I still blend it in and try to distribute it evenly for that reason.

07-25-2008, 12:12 PM
Okay so I got it today and applied it and ummmmmmm. I have the same problem as britt. It didn't blend evenly at ALL. I did exfoliate before, but maybe not hard enough because there are streaks of it all over me that just. won't. blend. WTF? I'm waiting like an hour or two so I can hop in the shower again and wash off the excess and I'm hoping the underlying color is a good, smooth tan. What did I do wrong though? You girls make it sound like you applied an instant, even, smooth tan and I was rubbing it in for like thirty minutes, trying to make it even and I still look streaked. :(
cutey5032
07-25-2008, 12:27 PM
When it washes off, it will look much better. Promise! Keep it on for at least 3hours.

07-25-2008, 12:29 PM
Yeah..it looks a bit streaky when you apply it,but when you wash it off it looks GREAT! I put mine on at about 5:30 yesterday and kept it on til this morning...I look nice and even and bronzed!
Laylalust
07-25-2008, 02:05 PM
Okay, I showered and the streaks are gone, phew! I really love the color but I think next time I'm going to apply it a lot thicker because it looks really light and subtle on me (and I'm super pale naturally). I just felt like I was LAYERING it on and it's pretty light on me still.
BUT I definitely like the results! It looks sooooo natural!
Oh also--do you ladies apply a daily moisturizer that helps maintain the tan? I just applied some regular Aveeno lotion after, so I hope that keeps it up.
britt244
07-25-2008, 02:07 PM
you showered too soon! the longer you leave it on the deeper the color is.
Laylalust
07-25-2008, 02:09 PM
^yeah, I figured as much. I was just sooo anxious to see the results! I'm gonna do it again tomorrow and do it RIGHT this time. I'll probably sleep on it so it's a lot darker.
I get so eager to see results that I skip steps and don't do things right a lot of the time. ::)
AlexxaHex
07-25-2008, 07:07 PM
It looks really streaky for me too at first, but that isn't the actual tan. It's the color guide. I find that doing the medium twice (once and then again two days later) is the best. I'm very pale to begin with.
The spray is very tricky because it's so...liquid. I blot the larger deposits of color with a hand towel after spraying it on and the results are good. I use it for my back, hands and legs and for touching up if I make a mistake with the lotion. Sometimes I'll wash my hands too soon and it makes my arms look like marble cake. lol

i tried it in the ultra dark and i really liked how evenly the color goes on (after washing off the guide) and how fast it dries. but it wasn't as dark as i thought it would be so i'm gonna try the dark.

OKay, after going through this entire thread I decided to pick some up and try it. I found mine at Ulta, I bought the Ultra Dark, slapped some on with gloves on (thanks for THAT tip!) waited four hours and rinsed/washed off.
The color was nice, very even, not orange at all. I liked it! The kicker was, it seemed like my stretch marks took the color too! Which NEVER EVER happens with tanning lotion.
I put a light layer on and obviously didn't keep it on too long, so the next day I decided to add more, keep it on longer and see what happens.
*GIRLS WITH STRETCH MARKS* the light colored ones (silver-ish/white I guess?) This product adhered to mine so wonderfully! I normally use make-up to cover mine up, but I didn't need to this time. They blended in perfectly with the rest of the tan. I showed my husband, who will always give me an honest answer (weather I want one or not) and he said he could not see them at all. At all!
Now, I don't know what they will look like when the tan starts to wear off a bit, they may show up more if it wears off faster in that area, but right now I am one happy girl!
ViolaStrings

Am I the only one who wears it without rinsing off when I go to work? I love the super dark look of it.
