^^ Agreed. Doctors should only be interested in your health.

In a perfect world they would only be interested in your health.
However most doctors I know are human and most human beings are judgmental. Not only will I be telling them that I am a stripper (gasp!) but I'll be letting them in on the fact that yep, I do exactly all the things you thought I did when I told you I was a stripper. Please preach to me oh holy one.

I t think you can skip on telling them you're a dancer :)

How much MJ... like a puff or two? I've never had problem with mixing them but curious for the answer.

Not sure about a couple puffs. I think it depends entirely on your body. It's not common, but that's why she was denied the drug.

True. But when I put down where I'm employed they pretty much assume what I do anyways.

You're not "employed" anywhere. You're an independent contractor. Make up a DBA name and that's what you do. :)

Definitely going to look at these forms alot differently now!

Exactly. Or tell them you're self-employed or modeling or something like that. :)

Yep..I always put self employed. Which is true.Besides..I have several jobs..dancer,model,actress,webcam.....that I dont have one "occupation" to put down anyway

Occupation: Self-Employed
Industry: whatever you want. Performance artist, Mary Kay saleswoman, sell shit on eBay, be an event planner. If you think it is going to cause you grief to be honest, feel free.

I tell the truth but I always go to the clinic at my university so they are used to it LOL

I always tell the truth when it comes to my history of drug use.

Fortunately I do not use any drugs anymore beyond the very rare hit of pot which happens maybe once or twice every couple of months, so when they ask I can tell them that I no longer use. I learned the hard way that being prescribed medications and using certain recreational drugs without the knowledge of a doctor is a bad bad thing.

Though when they ask me about my drinking I can never remember exactly how much I drink in a given week and so I do lie about that......... heh

Interesting thread (my 2 cents)-

* IMO doctors in general "profile" everyone....But not all are judgemental a-holes. I worked with a doctor who was a former heroin addict (he had knarly scars in the crooks of his arms- I didn't believe his life story until he showed me.) He was "cool" but most people don't want Mr./Ms. Cool doc, they want the uptight a-hole with the right answers. Think about it.

* It must be a California thing, but unless one stumbles into the ER with a visible ailment, the docs back home assume you might be on drugs very fast. But you have to put your feelings aside, the objective is treatment and retaining your health.

If you'd tell a bunch of strangers on the internet about your drug usage, I don't see why you wouldn't tell your doctor.

Lysondra, can you cite any studies about combining marijuana with painkillers being potentially lethal? I have never heard that before.

I don't do anything but drink. I tell them I drink but when they ask how much I WAY under estimate it, ahah.

I always ask abut drug interactions with lots of alcohol though, after all that is the reason they even ask.

It's easy when I'm anonymous to tell a group of people that I know wouldn't judge me for this rather than a doctor who knows me personally.

I simply make sure to KNOW the contraindications of any drugs I'm doing -- whether they're pharmaceuticals or recreational drugs.

Relying on doctors to be smart is sadly not the smartest thing to do these days.

Some FYIs:

There have been a very few fatalities connected with weed + alcohol + (other depressants, including painkillers.) However, the weed was probably not the instrumental thing in these fatalities, since alcohol, opiate painkillers and benzos all have substantial death rates alone, and weed doesn't (the first and only marijuana OD on record happened a few years ago.)

In general, any serious depressant or stimulant you're on (that includes coke, E, amphetamines including diet pills, benzos, opiates, ghb, alcohol) is more likely to interact with prescribed drugs than "hippie drugs" usually are. So be careful if you're on any of the above. Look it up, both in the fact sheet on your prescription and on erowid.org for your recreational.

One MAJOR exception is LSD with lithium, and all hippie drugs with SSRIs. Another major exception is anything with MAOI antidepressants (which are rare, but -- I'll get into that later.)

Lithium + acid may put you in the hospital! -- this is purely anecdotal, but not worth the risk -- I have heard two separate stories of people going into convulsions on this combination.

SSRIs will just cause your psychedelics to stop working. That would be acid, mushrooms and E, primarily: E will have almost no effect, acid and shrooms will have less effect.

MAOIs will make almost anything hit you harder. You'll know if you're on one of these because they'll have given you orders not to eat aged cheese, wine, and certain meats.

As always, I'm not a doctor, just a semi-educated passerby, and if you're curious about any two drugs -- LOOK THEM UP YOURSELF!!! I always do the reading again before taking something, even if I already did it before, just in case something new has been discovered.

I smoke pot almost everyday, I do coke frequently, and I probably do X once a month. (Whoa junkie!) Anyways, should I tell the truth? Do you?

Wait-don't you have a child though? /:O

I do have a child. However, she's not around when I do this. I party at work. It doesn't affect my parenting skills by any means. Thanks for asking though. ::)

Because of this thread when I saw my new doctor yesterday I told him everything. He said that my E usage cancels out my Celexa but since I guess it wasn't lethal that he would keep me on it anyways. Of course I do it like once a month if that. This year I have plans to get off it.

^ Mixing marijuana and (heavy) pain relievers have caused fatalities.

Yeah but pot stays in your system for about 30 days at the minimum. Who's to say when I smoked ? So they should just leave a person who might have smoked 3 weeks ago in debilatating pain. Good plan.

Exactly, who's to say when you smoke? You already lied about your drug use, why wouldn't you lie about when you took it? How about if it were in your system 3 weeks and you still died?

G-d forbid I try to prevent your death.

Well they also have to cover their ass legally. Yeah if I had a hit of a joint at a party and somebody gave me a vicodin 3weeks later, I'm totally sure it would kill me. Give me a break.
