Best show in MLB in 2009 will be whichever foolish team gives Manny 4 years and $110 Million. The amazing thing is it's gonna happen! The Manny years in Boston were worth it, but at his age someone is going to screw themselves long term! I nominate the New York Yankees. The Yankees seem to have followed a former Boston Red Sox tradition, hamstring yourself with a collection of "should be" DH's. Bring Ramirez back to his boyhood roots!

It's never been substantiated but there was a rumor that Boras tried to keep Manny in Boston by promising the Red Sox that he would behave and play hard for the rest of the season if they agreed to let him out of the two option years on his contract at the end of the season. I have no trouble believing that Boras would do this or that Manny would have complied. I'm glad the Red Sox didin't go for it...

I'm seeing Manny in pinstripes next year...

The Yankees can buy their way out from under Giambi's and Pavano's contracts, plus Abreu, Mussina, and Petitte are free agents next year. That's alot of payroll freed up. Texiera will be pricey, but I could see Manny and CC in NY next year. Depending on how much additional revenue the new ballpark provides, maybe all 3.

How about the Twins, 3 game sweep of the White Sox to move into first place.

This may help explain the A's anemic offense:

Yup, the Twins ahve always been my team, even in the years they always ended up in the cellar.

But now it is down to this: If Chicago beats Detroit tomorrw, they play the Twins another time and the winner goes to the Playoffs against Tampa. The Chicago loses, it will be the Twins.

Last year, the Twins were second place in their division and the second place wild card team, so this has certainly been a better season for them. And last week they split a four game series with Tampa, so who knows what might happen.

But first they've got to get into the playoffs, and that depends on Chicago.

The Curse of the Billy Goat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_the_Billy_Goat) lives. We hardly knew you Cubbies.

it wasn't the curse. it was a healthy dodgers team. the dodgers abysmal record isn't a true reflection of their team. the cubs never faced this team during the regular season. the young players kept the ship afloat and when you add a healthy Furcal and Manny "Mr. October" Ramirez to the mix. the cubs were doomed. Joe Torre is NL manager of the year.

A Dodgers vs Red Sox World Series suddenly sounds interesting.

Manny would look great wearing a Josh Beckett fastball.

Cubs celebrate 100th anniversary with meltdown for the ages. Just shows that anyone can run up a win total playing in an uber-weak division. When the crunch comes..... kablooey!

Dodgers are way better than their record shows, thanks to mid-season trades.

I agree. I also love the fact that Joe Torre is proving that there were (and still are) a lot of problems with the Yankees and he wasn't one of them!

Good Question, as always, it will depend on the situation. Francona doesn't put a lot of people on intentionally but he's definitely a "percentages" guy.
If first base is open with one or two outs at a critical time in the game he will probably walk him. Then again, it depends on who's pitching.

Okay, Manny, Nomar and Derek Lowe are all ex Red Sox. Who will get cheered and who will get jeered when they come up to the plate for the first time?

Clemens got a mix of both over the years, Johny Damon still gets boo's every time he comes to the plate at Fenway.
