I didn't touch this thread until now that I've seen it.
It was so incredible. One of very few movies that I've seen lately that don't have a little something missing.
And Heath Ledger was amazing. The way he talked and the way he moved and his little quirks (licking lips, twitchy eyes) really brought the character to life. Really, really good.

The female cop who gave up Rachel.
Two Face confronts her (Rodriguez) and flips a coin and says "Live again to fight another day" or something and punches her. I think it's indicating that he just knocked her out, didn't kill her (esp. since he shot everyone else). Though I think she very definitely a good target for revenge murder!

I saw it today and was totally blown away by its greatness. I love Tim Burton's vision and thought that nobody could do better Joker than Jack did, but now my opinion has changed. Not saying that the other one is better than the other, but Heath totally rose up to Nicholson's level (although his performance reminded me more of Jack in Shining).
Anyway, besides the awesome Joker the atmosphere of the film was breathtakingly dark because, at least to me, it felt so real. While Burton's Batman was gothic beautiful, this was gritty realistic. It culminated to that little boy who tought his father had died and witnessed horrible things and finally saw Batman being blamed and chased. (I could see the boys character as a possible heir to the cape) The childhood hero was stripped from his glory and revealed to be not invincible. And the good guy went crazy too.
The Dark Knight is a great Batman movie but it's impossible not to compare the nihilism of the film to today's world, especially after 9/11. That's why it's way more than just fiction, it's an essay of our times.
Have you seen No Country for Old Men? Joker - Anton Chigurh.
Both men beyond this world and its rules. The sheriff didn't catch Chigurh and never learned to understand his nature, he stayed the same. Batman caught Joker but instead of victory, it changed Batman to a dark knight because Batman had to go to the "dark side" to beat the new kind of villain.
BTW: both Chigurh and Harvey Dent flipped coins!
Anyway, DK was very good entertainment too (-heaps and heaps better than Wanted, which was total macho crap). Luckily I had a pleasant watch: tried to minimize the possible damage by going to a early Monday screening and it worked.:)
WTF PG13!?! And then wonder why kids are so violent...

Okay I saw it again in IMAX this weekend and I have one main question about a plot hole:
At the end of the movie, Batman says he'll take the blame for Two Face's 5 murders. My question is 'who were the 5 murders?' There's
-the crooked cop @ the bar
-the bartender
-the driver
-maybe Maroni?
But that leaves 1 or 2 people. I don't think the tally involves Rachel & Dent b/c Rachel got blowed up a ways before that, and Dent had already been hospitalized.
Aaaaah someone help!
Nolan has a three hour cut somewhere, I'm willing to bet some more of Two Face's final rampage is on there.

Just saw this rumor: (http://enewsi.com/news.php?catid=190&itemid=13710)
JOHNNY DEPP is tipped to play BATMAN villain THE RIDDLER in the next installment of the comic book movie series.
...
And, according to the National Enquirer, studio bosses also want Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman onboard to play another of the Caped Crusader's arch-foe, the Penguin.
Nothing against Depp, but I'd rather they not use major celebrities. He probably wouldn't make a bad Riddler, but he's too recognizable. My vote still goes to Tennant.
And two campy villains at once would be really hard to pull off. Assuming they won't recast the Joker, maybe they could bring back Zsasz? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zsaz)
An adaptation of the Hush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hush_%28comics%29) storyline would make good use of the Riddler, and tie in with the first two movies very well.

Christopher Nolan has not even definitively said that he is attached to the 3rd one yet. I am sure he will be all rumors are unsubstantial 'til then...

I'm going to take the unpopular opinion and say that I thought Dark Knight was extremely disappointing and over-rated.
Ledger did an exceptional job of the Joker but I don't believe it was the Oscar worthy performance that people have been going on about.
As a huge Batman fan, I walked out of the cinema feeling completely "eh". It was a good movie, but certainly not the epic masterpiece I had expected after all the hype.

Sam Rami has said the same thing before Spiderman 2 and before Spiderman 3 (as unfortunate as that one was).
Chris Nolan might make another movie between now and then, but to not follow up Dark Knight (it's on track to become the second highest grossing movie next to Titanic, MIGHT even beat it though i'll believe THAT when i see it) with another Batman movie would be really stupid.
Seriously, Dark Knight is doing well in theaters... Why? Because it's Batman, or because it's a genuinely good movie? Movies don't top the box office on their second weekend because no one is talking about them.
Nolan made a good movie. Batman or not. He'd be a fool not to follow it up. I just think: "How can he top THAT?"

While I've heard from a lot of people how good this movie is, I really feel like Heath Ledger's death is what has brought many, many people to see it, who otherwise wouldn't be interested. I'm seeing it this weekend, but I have a feeling I'll be with Darcy on this one...

As a Batman fan, do you have any specific criticisms? I do agree that Ledger's death- specifically the rumors about this role having something to do with it- made the movie more successful than it otherwise would have been (certainly the call for an Oscar nomination wouldn't exist had he not died).
Regardless, I loved Dark Knight both as a movie and a Batman story. The only change I would have made would have come at the end, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet...

I honestly cannot pinpoint the exact thing that made me feel so disappointed with it, all I know is that I left the cinema feeling completely blank. I didn't get that, "oh my god, that was awesome!" that I was expecting. I was just like, "Eh... it was alright"

Well, I saw it for the fourth time,t his time in Imax. Even more incredible.
*possible spoiler*
And it's possible Gordon, when he said "5 deaths" (he says deaths, not murders), he may also be referring to Dent as well.

Well no shit, I'm praying for that glorious opening night too. I'm just pointing out how incredibly unsubstantiated all rumors about who would be starring in the third movie are (well other than C Bibby, teh Cainz, etc). After all, they're still busy taking a nice post-premier rest to be storyboarding and signing up actors.

I saw it. Wasn't necessarily blown away.
Here's a great, well-balanced review of the movie that covers the pros and cons pretty well: http://chud.com/articles/articles/15382/1/REVIEW-THE-DARK-KNIGHT-NICK039S-TAKE/Page1.html

If Batman didn't disguise his voice, we'd have situations like in the 60's show, where Commissioner Gordon would get a call from Bruce Wayne, then use the Bat-Phone five minutes later, and not realize the two sound exactly the same.:)

You might love this. Click on the link, wait a min for the bitch to load, and scroll about 1/4th of the way in. They're making fun of batman's voice and doing impressions of how he would order food at different restaurants in his stupid voice. Fucking great.

It's pretty likely he's gonna do it, is all i was saying. Bale has a 3 picture deal, as does Oldman, Caine, and Freeman. Nolan should be back.
If not, whatever. The guy hasn't made any movies i didn't like i'll watch his next one.
Sorry if my post came off in a way that was unintended.

Am I the only one who didn't like it( Didn't read the whole thread to see), but I just can't get 1989's Batman out of my head.
Jack Nicholson's performance of the Joker is so much better than Heath Ledger's.........

I though it was totally different. I love Jack as the Joker but I think Heath was much more brutal.
I love the Tim Burton Batmans but i see them as seperates to Nolan's Batman.

I couldn't believe how bad this movie was...plotwise, actingwise-with a couple exceptions. Just...no. No.
Hands down worst Batman movie ever. I really hope Watchman doesn't suck this badly.
Sometimes I feel like I am taking crazy pills because I am in the vast, vast minority on this. Heh.

SPOILER:
I just saw it tonight. Dunno if it was said yet, but the whole Harvey Dent/ Two Faced inconsistency bothered me. He's alive in Batman Forever when Tommy Lee Jones plays him as the villan, but in this movie he dies shortly after he is burned?
It isnt meant to be a continuation..Nicholsons Joker died in the first Batman too...its a different take on the characters.
