OMG... I know the person who used to live there. He said he owned it, but I think he rented. ::)

I can see if it is year round home, but I don't understand the desire to own a big house when its for vacationing. I want something simple and easy to take care of because I want to spend my time vacationing, not taking care of a house. Clean, crisp and just roomie enough to get things done.
In our case the family bought five two bedroom/two bath condos down in St Lucie County, right on the beach, not far from where the Mets do spring training. Each is about 1200 sq feet. Beautiful balconies literally overlooking the sand. Its is an incredibly short walk to the ocean or either of two pools. We take turns using them. A family time share. :) I usually go in late March because I am a Mets fan and like to catch the last couple of weeks of Spring training before they come back to NYC.
Storm surges during hurricanes aren't too big a problem there because there is a barrier reef that breaks them up and they have sliding steel hurricane shutters that have never failed to keep the gales at bay. Good stuff.
With the market the way it is now if some cash frees up I may get another couple to either rent or for potential resale when the market picks back up.
For any singles or couples looking, even small families, I highly recommend going that route if you like Florida and want to live near the shore.

Here's one for only 13 million. It's located on the Gold Coast of Australia.

The stupid thing is that the land where this is built was going for peanuts just 20 or so years ago. The are was regarded as the crappy back woods where no one wanted to be, now its "the exclusive north shore" lol.
Edited to add - a fair number of these places are Japanese owned I think - there are some massive ones on the beach near me and theyre only occupied for 2 weeks of the year.

Maybe someone will send you a big burlap sack of cash. You know, someone who has a thing for helping women and doesn't want to see you lose your house. If such a person actually exists.
HA! The way my lucks been going with the whole check scam thing and all..I wouldnt be surprised if someone came out of the woodwork saying I OWE a big burlap bag of cash. sigh....

Since the note was interest-only, he was building no equity, either.
:yikes: Talk about defining greedy and ignorant. Just go w/what you can *afford* even if it's just an $800,000 house. How did this person get to be so successful and monied when it was a clear and obvious path to foreclosure? Americans. *shakes head*

Not much of an apartment when compared with the ones posted here but you would have to try hard to beat the views u get when you live on the Gold Coast Australia and I think a promise of 300 days of sunshine a year.

I checked out that house in San Diego on Zillow.com. All his neighbor's houes are in the 2-8 million range!
But damn, what a commission that realtor is going to get if he sells it. I wonder if it's the standard 3%.
OMG, I just looked at that listing closer and know EXACTLY where that house is. It's in this VERY VERY exclusive La Jolla Farms neighborhood. Check out the one other house that's bigger/more expensive. In fact, the most expensive house in San Diego. If you it, it's crazy seeing how big the houses and properties are.

The Orchid House is from an architectural park/nature preserve called the Lower Mills Estates. The developers asked 30 preeminent architects to build unique groundbreaking houses that were suited to the landscape. I wish more developers had this groups' vision.

With global warming, isn't the first house going to have atleast the first floor flooded in 20 years? Maybe the owner is trying to foist it off before someone does the research and notices.
I would rather have a cabin in the mountains with a broad view and a long drive to the city.
