^^
I've wondered that myself. Im really bad with BC I miss pills often for days at a time and I've always done this and never got pregnant (unless I dont know it and I've miscarried. I heard u can miscarry and not know?).

But I dont want a child right now and I def don't want to go thru an abortion - I dont even know if I could abort so yeh def dont wanna get pregnant.

this is one of those things fertility awareness can narrow down for you. like, with charting i found out i'd spent nearly my entire pre-marriage hetero sex life (and a fair bit of my married sex life the first few months) having sex only during infertile times (about 90% of the time in both circumstances, i was having sex during an infertile day).

a few months of tracking your cycles, and you can see if you're sterile or low fertility. or you can see if you're high fertility and thus need to plan things a bit more strictly. i just like it as an overall gynecological health thing for women, even if you don't end up using it as a primary BC method it is still very useful for pre-diagnosing problems without invasive (and sometimes painful) testing.

Those of you who did get pregnant while using the pullout method: Did your man lose control and come inside of you? Or are you saying you got pregnant from the precum?

I want to know too!

Okay. The ones who have had success with this method or anyone who wants to reply.

Is it "safe" for the guy to cum inside you during your period and/or for a few days after?

speaking from a fertility awareness POV-- the first 7-10 days of your cycle are very low risk-- it is almost impossible to get pregnant in the first 5 days (unless you have very short cycles, and even then your odds are <1%).

it's a numbers game. sperm die quickly in the absence of fertile-quality cervical fluid, and most women don't have fertile-quality cervical fluid the first 7-10 days of their cycle. so you just don't have the physical environment to keep sperm alive long enough to get to ovulation and fertilise the egg.

without knowing anything about your monthly cycles, i'd say it's ok the first 5 days for sure, and then based on your usual menstruation length it is ok for 2-5 days afterwards.

I read that the World Health Organization -- the health arm of the United Nations -- debated this question for awhile, and some scientists are saying that precum cannot get you pregnant -- like it has very few sperm, if any, and the ones it has are basically inert. From what I understand, pullout is considered an effective method IF THE GUY CAN HOLD HIS LOAD. That's the variable.

Even if he hits you on the outside, you can get pregnant. I knew a person that was a result of just such a thing (dry humping teens).

I'm really interested in this so thank-you for providing this information. If I could stop taking BC altogether that would please me and I agree that being aware of fertility and as u said a good indicator of gynecological health.

No, it isnt.

So, I'm going to say something based on logic.

Sex is used for making babies. If two fertile people have sex with nothing blocking the sperm, babies will occur.

Way, way too risky for me.

they die in a few hours in absence of fertile cervical fluid, typically, regardless of whether they are in or out of the body. they stay alive for 4-5 days *only* when cervical fluid is of the right fertile-quality level (creamy or eggwhitey, and sometimes watery). if a woman has sex say on the first day of her period, those sperm aren't making it another day and will die within hours of the act being finished.

women who 'get pregnant on their period' have sex during the earliest production of fertile cervical fluid (which for some women can be the last day or two of their period). then in that case the sperm would be alive for a day or two or even longer.

in a 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14 and 5 days of eggwhite-quality cervical fluid from days 9-13 (often there is no cervical fluid the day of ovulation itself), and a 5 day menstruation, a woman is just not getting pregnant from sex she had on day 3, and likely not on day 7 (many women have menses and/or spotting, then dry, cervical fluid-free days, and then the cervical fluid days). with the day 7 sex, the sperm's been dead for ages by the time she's producing the medium it can stay alive in.

in that example cycle, sex on days 9-13 would be pregnancy-risking (esp. day 13, which would be the day of highest possible likelihood of getting the egg fertilised).

women CANNOT 'get pregnant at any time'. there are clear and specific windows of time where they can and cannot get their eggs fertilised. and clear and specific windows where sperm will live longer than a few hours-- sperm do not live for days inside the female body during infertile phases.

I got pregnant using withdrawl and he didnt come in me at ALL...it was from precum. I do NOT recommend it.

Go to your ob/gyn and ask about all the non-hormonal options for birth control. A copper IUD or diaphragm may be best for you

I've been on BC pills for 17 years. It took some trial and error to find one that works best for me, but I take Levora now. the great thing is, I take it continuously so 1) my fibroids stay under control...the constant hormones keep them from getting any bigger and 2) I only get my period @3 times a year!! Which is especially great for me since because of the fibroids I was in extreme pain every time I got it.

Well, I commend you for finding a bc method that you're comfortable with and that you feel so passionately about... I have a close buddy who got pregnant during her 'infertile' time so that rules out that method for me.

:O This thread has scared me back into condom useage 100% of the time, even though my reproductive organs are supposed to be useless.

Maybe I'm just a "sucka" but a couple guys I've been with have either yanked the condom off mid-coitus or entered without suddenly. (Yeah, I know, no more nookie for them.) Is this a common guy stunt?

I don't get the whole mid-coitus thing. like, if you make a guy wear a condom, you're not going to say, "hey, I saw that. get your peeny out, loser. Learn a little sleight of hand next time."

LOL I actually did say and do that to my 1st ex, but I was much younger and fertile back then. (I was also raised by Roman Catholics, who tell girls they can get pregnant if a male *GASP* so much as looks your way)....

Seriously though, I dumped the last 2 guys who did the magic trick of whipping off the condom. One guy had the nerve to tell me he was worried I had given him an STD when he was the one who wanted to forgo the condom. Ah, men. ::)

I've never had a problem with it, but both guys I used it with (over the last four years) had the control to pull out long before they came, and I never got knocked up. However, I've been told time and again that pre-cum has sperm in it, so I stopped relying on pull-out and started taking bc. There's other options like foams and stuff that you can buy at the drugstore over the counter that are as effective as condoms and just as cheap.

I have used the "pull-out" method for YEARS...I have never gotten pregnant from it personally but I know of the horror stories very well! I am lucky that I am NOT a very fertile girl, and I keep track of my cycles so I know when to take extra precautions.

But if youre worried, i wouldnt risk it...I just KNOW my body and I know no babies are going to result from it.
