The term "tranny" or more often, "shemale" has been known to be offensive to some, mainly by those who don't provide sexual services for money.
Believe it or not, but not all transgendered people do porn or escorting where they may need to use certain buzzwords that would be easily referenced in a search engine.

Unfortunately, most men react in anger when they have been "fooled" by a TG woman, even if it's unintentional. It's what causes a lot of them to end up dead or beaten.

There are skeletal differences between men and women. First, in the skull, the brow ridge (where your eyebrows are) will be more prominent in males. Also, the chin will have a slight or obvious indenture in the bone at the tip which results in the male jaw looking more square. Most females have a rounded chin because they do not have the bone indenture.
Collar bones: Most (not all) males' collar bones will tilt up, making the neck look shorter. Females' (most, not all) collar bones will point straight across or even down, resulting in a longer, thinner looking neck.
The male pelvis is also "taller" and less wide than a female pelvis. I don't look at the pelvis to tell whether or not someone has been originally female or male, because the amount of fat and muscle over the pelvis makes it impossible to compare. But the brow ridge, chin, and collar bones are skeletal differences close to the surface of the skin no matter what someone's weight.
Of course there ARE females with more square chins, collar bones that don't point down or across, and brows that are more prominent. But if you look at all three factors at once, and they are three for three.... yeah.
You really can't look at fat deposits on the body or hip-to-waist ratios to determine someone's original gender because hormones can change the amount of fat carried in the fat pads.

The bone structure thing is dead on.
I wonder if hormones before and during puberty could modify that, and with surgery as an adult... erase it. Gosh that is so scary to think about
There are some women who seem to have all the male characteristics... Brooke Hogan, Queen Latifah, Gabby Reece (vollyball player), a lot of WNBA players... I wonder if that is purely hormonal and for whatever reason their gender is female but their hormones are male?
What is that thing with Jamie Lee Curtis? Like, she's actually a male or something or was that a rumor?
Just makes you think how flexible...everything is. Our DNA, our race, our sexuality, our height, our gender...interesting.

There needs to be a sticky somewhere with the definitions of "gender" and "sex".
You can't tell someone's gender (their identity) by their bone structure, but you can often tell their sex (which chromosomes they were born with.)
Also, please remember that it's pretty much a mortal insult to call someone by the wrong pronoun on purpose... if she's living as a woman, it's really depersonalizing and humiliating to say otherwise. I mean, imagine if someone did it to you!
I'm neutral on the use of terms like "trannie", "shemale" and "ladyboy"... but they can be insults in some contexts and not in others (think of words like "fag" and "dyke", and how they are used inside and outside the culture) so be careful. In general, if that's someone's public identity, if they've said so, it can be OK to use those words cautiously, but if they don't use those words then they just want to be seen as a person -- like you do -- and don't like attention being drawn to accidents of anatomy or chromosomes that they've already dealt with more than enough.

So gender is what you choose to be and sex is what your genetics are?
Did you ever see that TS on Tyra that was 'looking for love'? They said that they knew they were a man, but that they lived as a woman and looked like a woman. So... I guess all of that really varies person by person. I don't know if a sticky could ever define something as deep as self identity.
Whatever this person identifies as... male, female, in between... male during the day or female at night, male around family and female around friends...yadda yadda... this person is fucking sexy as hell... as a female... and completely fooled me. I guess that's why his or her or whatever the appopriate term is said that they are the most passable TS... so, if he views himself as a man 'commercially' but sells himself as a woman, what do we call this person? She's a she in the ad that is saying that she is a he but can pass for not being a he.
This whole thing of sexuality and sexual identity is a big ass gray area. In jr high I went out of my way to be boy-ish, and I knew I liked girls since I was 7. But I have since transformed into some over-the-top girly as Mariah Carey straight-for-pay person with penis envy from hell.
A person is a person. Regardless of... all that other shit.
The initial person I posted... fucking hot as hell. Male or female... I'd hit that.

Yep. My gay friends use "fag", "queen" and "dyke" as terms of endearments(and they are ok with me doing too...1) because I'm bi and 2) because they know where its coming from with me...they know me well enough to know that I'm not insulting them and I love them...we call each other shit like that all the time)
But "tranny" is almost always used in that group as an insult.
I would liken it to the difference between "bitch" which many of my friends and I use as a term of endearment with each other and "cunt" which is always an insult.
I wouldnt ever use any of them in jest with people I didnt know REALLY well though, because I wouldnt risk insulting them. If I dont know you and call you bitch..its because you are ACTUALLY a bitch!
And TV(transvestites) are almost always straight guys..whereas TG (transgender...even if they are 100% pre op) are almost always gay.
You have to be really careful who you call what...some people in the gay/lesbian.bi community are VERY particular about what they are and what they are called.
And I get PISSED when people bust on Brooke Hogans looks. I'm a big girl too with muscle and I think she looks beautiful. You dont have to be conventionally thin and delicate to be feminine and gorgeous.

Politically incorrect question so please forgive me... but is cunt... a "white people word"? I never hear black, latin, arab, etc women using that... but I have noticed that for white women, cunt is a fighting word.
Brooke Hogan looks good, yes.... however, she does kind of have broad shoulders, no waistline and a Jay Leno chin. Does she look great in a bikini and have great skin and hair? Yes. Does she look athletic and fit, yes. But... she's still masculinely built.

In NYC's small group of party promoters a lot of us know each other and support each others efforts. I've been to some of Sunny's and Dina's parties. The number of very passable TS women at these events are enough to get even a straight guy like myself to take notice. I have to keep reminding myself... As these women are decidedly female in their minds and spirits when they also look the part it is hard for any man not to respond hormonally. A gent secure in his sexual orientation can, and if he is honest must, admit that unless that penis is out were one can see it the application of feminine wiles will produce the standard result.
IOW when Jennifer, at a party, started overtly flirting and rubbing up on me I blushed several shades of red [and I don't blush easily] and felt the blood start to rush south of the border. Much to the delight of my friends who I had gone to the party with.

Just for discussions sake, I know some transgendered folk who would disagree with that.
Example: A male transgendered person, while she has male body parts, decidedly identifies as female. So she wouldn't feel "gay" being attracted to men because that is what a straight female is supposed to be attracted to.
BTW, there is now science to back this up.
Recent studies of male and female brains in living subjects [use of both electrical activity studies AND heat sensor studies - heat indicating activity in a specific part of the brain - show that male and female brains have distinct patterns that can identify the gender of the person from the scan.
Not unsurprisingly transgendered individuals have patterns that do not match their physical beings. In other words, male transgendered individuals frequently have brain patterns of female orientation, while female transgenders have male patterns.
In short, it would appear that there is science to indicate this is a naturally occurring birth defect. Where a male or female brain developes in a body that isn't matched for it.
Now, we wouldn't get all out of sorts about someone being born with some sort of body defect having surgery to correct what nature accidentally made a mistake with so why do we have a problem with an individual trying to correct something of this nature and get the body matched up to the brain that inhabits it?

Hmm... No, I know several gay (relative to their gender, not their birth sex) trans folk... in fact, I have to say I know more trans guys who date guys, and trans women who date women, than hetero ones. :-) YMMV, though!
Part of the reason why things may have shifted over time is that transgender people originally had to claim to be attracted to the opposite sex of their target sex (okay, that's a long sentence, what I mean is that a lady in a man's body would have to claim to be attracted to men, even if she were really a lesbian at heart) in order to get medical assistance. Medical assistance was also refused to people who the doctors thought didn't have sufficiently attractive facial features. Awful stuff went on.
The suicide rate for trans folk is still pretty high, as is the murder rate. Protections are improving... slowly. Being queer in your target gender is no longer reason for refusal under the care standards, at least.

The suicide rate for trans folk is still pretty high, as is the murder rate. Protections are improving... slowly. Being queer in your target gender is no longer reason for refusal under the care standards, at least.
I can understand the suicide rate... having your brain and your body not lining up must be like... feeling like you're in the wrong body, feeling like you have to rid yourself of your body, etc. While extremely sad and unfortunate... it does make logical sense.
Can you help me to understand why they are killed so much, though? Most real-life TS are not as passable as the model type/escort type/porn star type... so I mean... how could a man seriously not notice... and have their ego so messed up that they'd have to destroy someone?
Do the TS people genuinely think that they are the sex they are portraying? Like, they are not intentionally trying to deceive people and trick people, right? Do they not understand that sexuality is DEEP for everyone and not just them... and that a man questioning his sexuality for the first time in his life can be dangerous?
I mean... do they lie to these guys... or not? Or is it like... "Oh, it's okay she's TS but my friends found out so not to assert my masculinity I have to pretend to be deceived and enraged and kill her."
Even in the non TS gay community, and to some extent in the straight community... unwanted sexual advances cause huge issues. But add trickery or deceit into the mix and you have a recipe for disaster.
It's just really sad. It must be really...painful...and I wonder if in some cases these people are willing to risk their life for love... like "I'll just be me as I am, as a woman, and if they find out I am a man...well, either they will kill me or they will love me"... you know? That really just breaks my heart. Especially since so many of the hate crime victims are young and probably feel lost and abandoned and might be kind of suicidal as it is... so risking their life really is no big deal to them.
I am sure some people are gonna read what I wrote the way they choose to, just so they feel they have a right to be all 'enraged' and get on some soapbox of "OMG what are you saying Amber are you saying it's their fault don't you know anything OMG OMG OMG ur a horrible person and probably think wearing a short skirt is a rape invitation"... which is NOT what I am saying. I am asking a question, just want real life opinions and answers. They were just talking about this on the radio the other day.

It often has nothing to do with "being tricked"... when that is the defense, the guy was as often as not in a relationship with this person and aware of their physiology for months. In some of those cases the relationship is abusive and it is basically a domestic violence murder.
But there is also a lot of stranger crime -- trans women can be subject to random bashing attacks and rapes, by thugs who see that these women do not look like they're following the mandates of society and decide to destroy what they can't understand...
When trans people get medical help with transition, and are supported rather than rejected by their families and friends, the suicide rate is much lower.
The choice they used to have to make was this: Either you can have a body you are willing to live in, and disappear from the lives of everyone you know -- or go on living a lie. The medical system used to force trans people to start over with a different name in a different state and conceal themselves. That has changed mostly in the last fifteen years...

A man lies in bed next to his new girlfriend after having great sex. She proceeds to spend the next hour lovingly stroking his penis.
Evidently enjoying her attention but curious about her obvious dedication, the guy asks her, "Why do you love doing that so much?"
"Because I really miss mine," she replies.
