Well, what do you think the cops are going to do? Fix him? All they'll do is call the paramedics.
I witnessed an accident, after helping the innocent person, the guy who caused it went berserk when approached/ asked questions. He seemed more likely to die than the former person. You never know. The unexpected can come to pass.
EDIT:: How were they to know he fell from an overpass? That was not called in.
Police officers are TRAINED to asses and determine whether or not a situation is dangerous to themselves or the public. That is their JOB. Fixing is not - so that makes your statement rather uniformed.
Incoherent babble coming from an obviously injured teen is not a threat.
It's fear, pain and his reaction to his situation. What was the young boy going to do? Talk them to death?
Even by not being their I can see the mistake.

Do you drive? you could be a victim of a carjacker, a drunk driver, a ricer, or all sorts of other things. Scared bout that?

Please don't even get me going on "ricers". I could rant, point, mock, and laugh all day long ::) I would horribly derail my own thread.

Are you referring to the incident in Portland where the parents initially called the cops? In '06.
I believe it was in Burns or perhaps Prineville. I know it was in the eastern part of the state as I was working in Bend at the time it happened.
That doesn't make sense. You would never call the cops, but would after all is said and done, but not for help.
To file a report for investigation purposes or maybe to file an insurance claim (such as in a robbery case).

OMG, I am so disgusted by that.
Cops really do use tasers so much. It's disgusting. I saw a video of a woman who was freaking out yelling "Please stop (tasering her) Please stop" and she was trashing on the ground and the cops tazed her until she passed out.
I really don't believe that they should be used at all. In theory yes, in practice no. They are so abused that I don't think they should be allowed to carry them anymore. I'd rather see rubber bullets to be honest.

^^^
It really was!! Even worse a young woman was shot to death last year because she was scared to get out of her car in NV. There was a stand off with the cops and she was in the car crying and freaking out and they had their guns out and when she went for the door to open it, they shot her. She was unarmed I think she was like 18 or 19 years old. I don't think cops really need any more weapons to be quite honest. It isn't that hard to kill somebody with a taser, esp if they have heart problems.

I can't find the story, do you have any links to it? Other than that, it is tragic to die, but how can blame be placed on the cops when we can't even we can't even see the details of the story.

He was threatening them, telling them off. They have the right to secure the him.
With all due respect, you are an apologist for police brutality and stupidity. Either that or you are a cop.
The police are hired for public safety issues, not to defend their own personal sensibilities. They instead could have asked him if he was hurt and if he wanted an ambulance, and let the insults go.
It's not 1 out of hundred who is bad/inept as a cop, it is more like 1 out of 3 to 5.

Nope, I don't like to jump to conclusions.

Hired for public safety issues, I bet that means to "protect and serve", right? Yeah, makes a good sound byte, but pure propaganda.

Sure, if you say so.::)

Well why else should we keep paying their salary with our taxes?? Just to pass out speeding tickets and attack people? I keep waiting for you to say, "Welcome to the new world order."

Can you show me where they have that legal responsibility?
What the Supreme Court says about what a cops job is:
South vs. Maryland; 1856: police have no responsibility to protect you, only general enforcement of the law.
Or Bowers vs. DeVito 1982 ::::
There is no Constitutional right to be protected by the State against being murdered by criminals or madmen. It is monstrous if the State fails to protect its residents against such predators but it does not violate the due process clause of the 14th Amendment, or any other provision of the Constitution.
It's easier to write tickets than arrest criminals, and it gets them more money.

Isn't that saying that one cannot sue the state, short of a fairly high standard of negligence because they haven't prevented a specific crime? That doesn't mean that "public safety" is not the mandate of the police. And it certainly doesn't give them carte blanche to assault people because they get angry.

No, you can sue the police, but there is a higher standard than if it was just a civilian. I don't remember the exact word, but it has to be negligent or gross negligence, something like that.
I think the majority of cops will move in to protect a person, stop a crime, but....... look at the NY Central Park 'gauntlet', LA Riots, among other 'crimes' that police stood by and watched.
The quickest response I ever recieved from the cops on possible burglars was when I told them I have a gun. 3 units responded at the same time in less than 2 minutes. lol The time before, was much longer.

No shit, because civilians don't have police training
