I found some good advice on another forum:

i apply my monistat 3x a week w/o washing out. i use a well-rinsed pointed hair dye bottle (or a genric picnic ketchup bottle) to apply straight to my roots while massaging in as i go along.

my mixture is usually about a inch long strip squeeze in the bottle( i just eyeball it) and mix with about 4 table spoons of warm water. shaken together it makes a nice runny cream. i then style as usual.

i know monistat dose not have any mineral oil in it but others do you have to read the ingredients, i found the oil really makes the hair greasy and flat and it also causes pimples around my hair line.

I'm also going to try adding a drop of tea tree oil to my shampoo to see if that gives some antifungal properties as well.

I just went to different websites and compared the ingredients of the different 7-day yeast infection treatments.

The generic brands all have mineral or vegetable oils in their bases, which cause greasiness and may clog up follicles. If you have really dry, brittle hair, these cheap brands may benefit you.

The Monistat brand has a few different 7-day formulas, and most of them contain no oils. Check the ingredient list when selecting a brand to make sure you're not getting greasebombed.

It will be more expensive, but I'm going to buy the name brand. I'll see if they have any in the dollar stores though. Next time there's a sale, I'm going to buy about 5 tubes at once.

Wait so its yeast infection cream that works and not itch cream?

08-08-2008, 11:26 AM
^^ the main ingredient in yi cream is the same as in itch cream I think. Whatever the case i made my husband do it lastnight and he got excited, lol, he will try anything. I wanna try it too, but my hair already gets so oily and the stuff will get in my hair, icant just get it on my scalp w/o getting some in my hair so i am gonna do it when i have 2 days off. How often do you need to do it? Like nightly or a few times a week?

I'm in. I just got fed up with all my bleached out, breaking off hair and cut it all off into what one might refer to as a scene mullet (of course, I would smack one about the face if they were to say that to me). I LOVE it, but the whole point was to get rid of the crappy hair so the new hair could grow healthy. I want it down to my ass!

Don't buy a product that has petroleum and/or mineral oil in the it. Those actually clog the pores of the scalp, and sit on top of the scalp, instead of penetrating in the scalp.

Sunday! :D

I wanna admit, I'm so excited!

Oh yea, I'm gonna take measurements of my hair. I dont have a camera at this time..though I may use my phone. Anywho, I'm gonna use a ruler to measure my nape, front, sides, and crown area.

Good idea, CK! I measured the shortest part of my hair (up at the crown) at 8 inches. That's the part I really want to grow out. I hope I get a lot more fast growth!

I want to do this but I have a couple questions somebody could maybe answer...

1. Does it make the hair thicker too, or just longer? My hair is hellaciously thick now and am nervous about it getting thicker...think Bush Woman.

2. Is the safe for color treated hair, even though you're only applying it to the scalp I would assume some gets on your hair right?

3. I have read mixed comments saying to mix it with water, or to apply it directly. What's the "Right" way to do it??

ok so let me get this str8...you just buy the itching creme? or buy the box of monistat and use the creme inside the box?

How many times a month should I do it for?

I'm really curious as to if this is going to work because I damage my hair every night I work. I want my hair to grow back healthy so I can cut the damaged hair off

Dam* where ya'll girls been :O ! The sista's have been doing this for yonks! And yes I can confirm it DOES work!

It is the miconazole nitrate in the monistat the promotes the growth. You can also use Nerosporin or even better (this is what I used) foot powder which has 2% miconazole nitrate, mixed with jojoba oil or an ayurvedic (indian oil to promote hair growth) oil.

However Mega-tek BLOWS monistat outta the water! That will make y our hair grow like a weed!

Top layer (the one I really want to grow out): 8 inches.

'Scuse me looking all shitty and ragged... this is me rocking my "middle of a long production week" look. But there is Monistat on my hair even now. Don't freak out, ladies, Monistat doesn't make your hair look this ratty. You can still take a curling iron to it or style it however you normally do. Just don't roll out of bed with a bad growing-out haircut at 5:45 am when you have to be at work half an hour away at 6:30, and you'll be fine. ;)

I just googled it... seems to be a hoof and mane strengthener for horses. I bet it WOULD work wonders on hair and fingernails. Do you just use it as a conditioner? Leave in, rinse out, what? I'll get some and do the MegaTek and Monistat together if it works. I'd love another 4-6 inches of hair in two or three months!

One reviewer who used it on his dog posted on Amazon that it made his dog smell like coconut. If coconut oil is a key ingredient... well, we all know what a miracle coconut oil is!

Yeah, but do you use it as a conditioner or is it a shampoo or a mask or what? And do you leave it in or wash it out?Yek, I applied it to my scalp and would do a hair treatment with it every fortnight; followed by a deep conditioning moisture treatment, for protein and moisture balance . It is protein based so you don't want to apply it to the hair all the time but it will strengthen the hair.

Every night I would mix apply it to my scalp and rinse it out in the morning

Mane & Tail should come with a disclaimer. Back when I could sit on my hair, I used Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner, and yes, it will make your hair very beautiful in the short term. Unfortunately, it has wax and will leave a heavy buildup that will break your hair at the ends, leaving short, broken dead ends. I wouldn't recommend Mane & Tail unless it was for a one-time thing, and use a clarifying shampoo afterward.

Seraya, sounds like it would be either Mega-Tek or Monistat, yeah? Not both? Which one do you think would promote the fastest, healthiest growth?

Yes it is the coat rebuilder. With ovation it is the ovation cell therapy

OVATION CELL THERAPY FOR HAIR
Accelerate • Rejuvenate • Strengthen
Have hair as long as you want!

OVATION Cell Therapy nourishes your hair and scalp with essential amino acids. Our formula dramatically accelerates hair growth, reduces breakage and hair loss. Creates visibly thicker, fuller and longer hair.
Daily Directions: Shampoo with Ovation Color Therapy Shampoo. Apply Cell Therapy liberally to wet hair and massage in to scalp. Leave on for 3-5 minutes. Follow with Ovation Creme Rinse.
For Intense Results: Use as a hair treatment. Apply to moist hair, leave on for a few hours or overnight, and rinse out.

Ovation Cell Therapy Benefits:

Results vary with every individual, but most clients report the following:

FASTER HAIR GROWTH of as much as an inch per month. (This is approximately twice the normal rate of hair growth.) Some even report growth in excess of an inch per month! Most people notice results within 30-45 days, but some customers report results—including improved hair texture and manageability—in as little as two weeks.

STRONGER HAIR. Most people report stronger hair. This is a major benefit to those whose hair is chemically treated. The stronger the hair is BEFORE chemical treatment (e.g., color, relaxers, perms, highlights, etc.), the better the end result will be. There will be less damage and breakage from chemical applications.

IMPROVED SKIN QUALITY. A hair product that improves your skin? Yes! Many people report healthier skin after prolonged use. The amino acids in Ovation Cell Therapy nourish the skin and improve cell health. Ovation cell Therapy can be applied directly to the skin for more dramatic results.

FASTER NAIL GROWTH. Nails rely on many of the same nutrients as hair. Introducing nutrients meant to improve hair health can increase nail health as well. As with skin, direct application of Ovation Cell Therapy will improve your results.http://www.ovationhair.com/cell.htm

^^^ SULFUR? Oh hell no. Not even for beautiful long hair would I go around smelling like rotten egg farts.

*FUN RECIPES*(these also help combat shedding)
Mega-Tek Mix:in a small container mix 2oz of Mega-tek + 1/8 teaspoon castor oil + 1/8 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil + 1/8 teaspoon SAA from lotioncrafters.com. (thanks justkiya)

Mega-Tek Mix:6 oz MT cell rebuilder, 1 oz grapeseed oil, 1oz Jamaican Black Castor Oil, 1 oz aloe vera oil (aloe vera gel can also be used)15 -18 drops of rosemary or peppermint or lavender essential oil (or 5-6 drops of each), 2 oz BB Oil Moisturizer hair lotion with castor oil and aloe, 1 Tblspn of flowers of sulfur powder (yellow), 3 tubes of MN
-1. Mix the MN with the BB moisturizer in a bowl first
-2. Mix all ingredients together in a color applicator bottle, shake and squeeze on scalp only daily

"Pre-oil" with OCT or Mega-Tek: 1). oil scalp first with an oil such as almond oil, extra virgin olive oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, carrot oil, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, ayurveda oils or any other oil you like 2). then apply the OCT or Mega-Tek to scalp with a color-applicator bottle

I am transitioning, which basically means I have half natural hair and half texturized hair. I am growing my hair out fully natural and slowly cutting off the texturized ends. My SIL is completely natural though. She had a relaxer which broke of her hair terribly, so now she is trying to grow it back.

CK, LCHF is the truth! I have always been able to grow hair even though I used to manipulate the shit out of it but even so... since I found LHCF my hair has been THRIVING like never before. Many many many black women on there have middle back/waist/hip length hair. People think our hair can't grow ::) but this is not true, its just that out hair is very fragile and need extra TLC.

I know what transitioning is! That's great that you're trying to go natural. I'm all natural (5yrs), but honestly I don't take the best care of it. You're right about black women growing their hair long. I have a fotki (nothing to rave about yet) and I've come across some women w/ hair to the small of their backs! OMG I just wanna imagine that's my hair for a sec lol.

Earlier this week, I made my first attempt at 2-strand twists, and they came out good! I"m gonna co-wash tomorrow, and do the monistat thing.

From what I've been reading ont he other hair forums, these chicks have literally bought out the whole Mega-Tek lol. We may have to wait in line SW sista's! :(

So for me, I'm gonna do my Monistat challenge for 1-2 months, and THEN use the Mega-Tek in the fall.

cinammonkisses

NO, not the chafing kind.

The Monistat (or generic brand) will have miconazole nitrate in it (2%) If anyone does get the generic brand, make sure it DOES NOT have mineral oil and/or petroleum in it.

my hair was really brittle from swimming, dye, & flat ironing but has almost grown out & recovered due to this wonderful product & consistent trimsI haven't tried these pills but their over products are the truth. For the gals that straighten their hair with relaxers, you need to check out the non-chemical Phytorelaxer!

I want us to all do it together...Can we like all start on like Sunday?oooh cool I might join. If so I will have to officially join the SW challenge (I am already in another one LOL) next week cos I gonna be cutting my hair, so I want to start fresh.

You should take a before picture and upload it to pikistips.com, so that you can do side by side comparison pics. Kinda like a picture timeline

So wait...

Do you have to leave it on for 24 hours? I was thinking of applying it on before going to bed, with a cap on. Then wash it off when I wake up.Yes this is what I did. I would apply it at night and then wash out the next day or te next time I did my co/poo wash.

When do you wash your hair? How often do you reapply? Please, someone provide step by step instructions!!wash your hair as much as you normally would. Just apply it after or at night before bed. If you don't feel like doing it everyday that is fine but try to do it at least 4-5 days out of the week.

Something else -- things like alopecia are said to be caused by fungus. SOOOOO stock up on monistat you guys! I'm gonna try antifungal essential oils though like tea tree oil scalp massage, etc.
Correct! tea tree is awesome for the scalp. I sometimes use it in my hair growth concoctions.

Do you apply it alone or do you need to mix it with an oil or something? I heard that before somewhere. I think im gonna make my husband do it and see what happens (he just shaved his head lastnight, so we can see how fast it grows )I mix it with oil. I like; Joja oil, peppermint, castor oil (promotes hair thickness), ayurvedic oils (specifically for hair growth), emu oil, EVOO, coconut, sweet almond, palm nut and loads more.
OK, as I am a compulsive researcher....I totally had to google this.

Most of the posters are raving about it!
(Apprently neosporin works too).I am a compulsive researcher too. I am a member of both sites

Hey maybe this will cure my itchy head, i started a thread on my hair hell. The t-gel shampoo worked for a little while, but one of the posters was right it came back. No, it's not lice lol. i'm buying it i'm trying it. Now our hair will have "Monostatus" LOL that was lame.Try the monistat (or any product which contains 2% MN) and your scalp issues will be cured, forever. I betcha! :D

The generic brands all have mineral or vegetable oils in their bases, which cause greasiness and may clog up follicles. If you have really dry, brittle hair, these cheap brands may benefit you. guys stay away from MINERAL OIL or any synthetic oils.. this also includes Petroleum. These oils will clog the pores/hair follicles and dry out your hair and scalp.

And my beautiful sistah's of colour (and a some of my white sistas who do this also) stop greasing ya scalp! :banghead: The scalp does not need to be coated with heavy grease.. this just causes dandruff and other shit.

Don't buy a product that has petroleum and/or mineral oil in the it. Those actually clog the pores of the scalp, and sit on top of the scalp, instead of penetrating in the scalp.Z'actly

What's the "Right" way to do it??Ok

1. For me yes it did make my hair appear thicker but it doesn't do this for everybody which is why some people mix it with castor oil (castor oil is used to make the hair thicker)

2. Yes it is fine. I don't see how it could possibly interfere with colour treated hair.

3. There really isn't a "right" way. Sometimes you have to experiment to see which way is right for you.
