I know what transitioning is! hehe yea I know you know I just wanted to make it clear just in case peeps are thinking WTF are they talking bout.

That's great that you're trying to go natural. I'm all natural (5yrs), but honestly I don't take the best care of it. You're right about black women growing their hair long. I have a fotki (nothing to rave about yet) and I've come across some women w/ hair to the small of their backs! OMG I just wanna imagine that's my hair for a sec lol.

Earlier this week, I made my first attempt at 2-strand twists, and they came out good! I"m gonna co-wash tomorrow, and do the monistat thing.

From what I've been reading ont he other hair forums, these chicks have literally bought out the whole Mega-Tek lol. We may have to wait in line SW sista's!

So for me, I'm gonna do my Monistat challenge for 1-2 months, and THEN use the Mega-Tek in the fall.Yea I was the same way. I abused and manipulated my tresses with heat and colour! I am surprised that I am still able to grow hair. I also love cutting my hair cos I am into edgy euro/scene-inspired do's, but now I want to try and grow my hair as long as possible.

Right now I am following an Indian Ayurvedic regimen and I am exp lovely growth and strength! Today I did my scalp massage and scritching (yes scritching lol) with my Ayurvedic oils (Mahabhringaraj and shikakhai ) and then I applied my Indian hair tea rinse (1 tbs of Brahmi, 2 tbs of Amla, 2 tbs of Maka powder mixed with water), co-washed, deep conditioned and sealed (the moisture) my hair with coconut and amla oil... then now I'll probably do a twist out or braid out.

Look at the growth she got in 3 weeks with Ayurveda http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173251

Ayurveda is the oldest surviving complete medical system in the world. It is a holistic health system based on human harmony with nature. Ayurveda is a complete way of life. It is not only about treating sickness - it is based on preventing disease and enhancing health, longevity and vitality. The goal of Ayurveda is to achieve harmony and balance. Ayurveda promotes health and wellness through the use of natural herbs/oils, and healthy eating and excercise regimens.

People also use henna with like rose mentioned in a post on the previous page.

I am also going to start the Mega-Tek again in September... can't wait!

Btw do you baggy your ends? this really helps in retaining your growth.

I have also started taking supplements

- walmart hair pills, LOLz
- Biotin
- MSM
- silica
- Brewers yeast

LOL yes I am on a mission!

Yea, you really are on a mission. Good luck! The girl in the link you showed, I was just looking at her length a few days ago..that's awesome! I smh at the girls who are doing the monistat and/or OCT/MT and then KEEP getting relaxers..they are just wasting product smh..but hey I dont' really care lol.

Actually, right now, I'm baggying my entire head lol. I have on a shower cap, and a CVS bag. I massaged EVOO on my scalp and ends. I didn't apply conditioner or anything..I think next time I will. I did co-wash before I baggied though, I just rinses out the conditioner.

That indian method you are doing sounds interesting. I'm on nappturality and some of the girls there use different oils, but they don't have all these "growth challenges" like the other sites. They are alot more (I'm trying to think of a good word) militant lol when it comes to natural hair.

Ok I'm jumping on the monistat bandwagon as well--- I have a question though--- a couple pages back people were talking about not using the generic so as not to clog your pores and put oil on your head---- then I read on the long hair forum link that someone posted above-- every recipe includes people mixing it with extra virgin olive oil and other carrier oils???

So you should use oil or not? Are you guys just putting straight Monistat on ur scalp??? I have super oily hair, and have to wash my hair daily so if it drys out my hair alot, it wouldn't be troublesome to me, I'm not sure what will happen if I start putting more oil in my hair. Could someone please clarify....

Thnx

^^^ I wouldn't put oil on your scalp if it's already oily. I use the straight Monistat with no problem.

Depends on if you need it or not. I'm black, and I have natural hair (no perm/relaxer) so my hair will NEED the oil. Some Caucasian women need oils on their scalp as well..but I dont' think it's to common.

Also, as far as oils...EVOO, castor oil, etc are natural and they penetrate the scalp. Petroleum is man made, and mineral oil just coats the scalp and hair and doesn't let it "breathe"

^^Thanks....I appreciate the advice- I wasn't sure if the oil had something else to do with it. But straight Monistat it is for right now. If it dries out my scalp that would only be an added bonus-- I envy my friends who say they only have to wash their hair ever other day or even a couple times a week.

Ok I've read the entire thread and I am still really confused. 2 questions:

1. can white people use it

2. will i have to wash my hair after it? will it make it oily?

Yekhefah
08-10-2008, 09:17 AM
I'm white and I use Monistat. As far as I can tell, the only racial difference is that black women seem to have dryness problems with it and have to mix it with oil. Me, I use it straight with no problems.

I don't have to wash my hair for about 24-36 hours afterward. It does get dirty faster but you can still style it and wear it out just fine. Don't wash your hair right after you put it on; that defeats the purpose of using it, because it has to sit on your scalp for as long as possible to work. Do it before bed and kind of "scrub" your scalp (no water, just with your fingers) in the morning to fluff your roots, then style your hair as usual and go on with your day. Then wash it the next morning, or wash it at night and put on more Monistat once it's dry.

ETA: By "it gets dirty faster," I don't mean anything noticable. Without Monistat, I wash my hair about twice a week. With Monistat, I wash it three or four times a week. It's still no big deal.

^very helpful, thanks!!

Use dry shampoo, or baby powder, or cornstarch so I only have to wash my hair once or twice a week so maybe I can put that over it if it looks a little oily....

Sorry one more question:

Can someone post the specific monistat that they use for this?

Yekhefah
08-10-2008, 09:44 AM
Monistat 7, or any generic yeast infection cream. Look at the label and the active ingredient should be miconazole nitrate. Make sure that mineral oil and petroleum jelly are *not* listed among the inactive ingredients, and you're fine.

VegasPrincess
08-10-2008, 10:06 AM
1. For me yes it did make my hair appear thicker but it doesn't do this for everybody which is why some people mix it with castor oil (castor oil is used to make the hair thicker)

2. Yes it is fine. I don't see how it could possibly interfere with colour treated hair.

3. There really isn't a "right" way. Sometimes you have to experiment to see which way is right for you.

Ooo thanks! I'm going to start tommorrow. If I notice it starts getting a lot fuller/thicker I'll stop.

Tonight half of stripperweb starts rubbing monistat on their head every night. Now we'll be able to identify eachother in the clubs, i.e., sitting in the dressing room you notice the girl next to you has such *amazing* hair:

"Oh, do you use monistat on your scalp? Yes- I read it on stripperweb!!! Me too! Squee!!!!!"

Best friends for life.

Gah I forgot to go to the drug store. Being an SWer is a fulltime job :). Right now, measured from the front of my hairline to the bottom, my hair is 25". Sides and front are much shorter since my hair is all uneven. I want some growth so I can cut it before school starts. Off to the CVS.

I went to Family Dollar today and got the last tube woohoo! It cost me $5.25 I've already applied it, so now I'm just chilling on the computer. My mom (who is a hairdresser and is SUPER amused at how excited we all on SW are) jokingly asked me if I was gonna massage the product in. Honestly, I didnt' cause I'm kinda scared lol

Right now, we're on the Monistat (or the generic version) kick. I"m gonna see how well my hair does on the Monistat version for 2 months.

Oh geez, I really wish I hadn't read this thread. My husband thinks I'm weird enough already...no I go running in all excited and squeeking "pussy cream! On my hair! It'll make it grow!"

::) The things we do!

K, so I'm in! I chopped my hair so short a while back, finally it's past my shoulders, but I want it past the middle of my back! (I also want a rock body and bigger boobs to go with it, but that's another thread!)

I'm applying tomorrow morning! ;D

When I get it, I think the best way (since I don't have anyone to do the back of my scalp,) is to cut a toothbrush's bristles down by about half and just apply the monistat like that-- rubbing vigorously to increase blood circulation in the skin, and maybe this will keep it from getting too terribly much in the rest of my hair.

now I'm wondering about only doing half my head-- see what happens :)

actually I'm thinking I'm going to track down mega-tek if I can in-stores because that sounds like it works even better.

I've done this before. It does help if you are consistant with it. I add sulfer powder and peppermint oil to my MN. (Miconazole Nitrate, the active ingredient in yeast infection creams) Be careful though, some women get really bad headaches and dizzy spells when they apply it. It's not for everyone. I also co-wash my hair every other day and shampoo once per week. I only use dominican hair products and I add ingredients to my products. (i.e. adding glycerin to moisturizers, peppermint oil to conditioners to stimulate the scalp etc.) I reside on www.blackhairmedia.com/www.longhaircareforum.com and other hair care sites.

I have a relative who might benefit from this idea- it just seems so damn wacky.

& Being me, I'm going to raid the Dollar Tree store to get enough of this cream to use....This would be too expensive to try otherwise.

I don't' have any random toothbrushes laying around, but this sounds like a good idea. I don't think you'll need to be to vigorous with the rubbing on your scalp though, you could get sores.

I'm too much of a chicken shit to try the monistat so I bought the whole doctor miracles line yesterday and I've used everything.I'm going to use each product as much as it says to and be very consistent.

The smell is strong and kinda bad lol but my scalp is tingling all the time and it feels good. I'll take pictures and show my progress every 2 weeks.

My head was not tingly or itchy at all. I used the generic monistat 3 but I used a whole tube and I really tried to put in on skin, not hair. I didn't dilute it. Do you think its still working or that I got too much in my hair?
Its hard to keep it on just your skin! Especially when you're rubbing it in. I need to do that mix with water in a ketchup bottle thing.

I can't wait to have long, beautiful, shiny thick hair!!! :)

I've been simply adding a few drops of tea tree oil to my shampoo. Some people swear by different shampoos such as coal tar and ketazonacole, which are OTC antifungals (I'm not sure about the regular selenium sulfide or pyrithione zinc), but I don't know abot miraculous hair growth. I'll tell you about any progress made with my tea tree oil treatment.

One thing is that shampoo washes out. Maybe a constant treatment keeps up the effects?
