I'm glad you girls are still keeping up. I've slipped and missed applications about 4-5x so far. I'm noticing some hair growth. Sadly, I didn't measure it, but I may do so this week just to keep a formal record.
I plan on buying the Mega-Tek soon too. I wanna use that after I use the Monistat/(generic) for 2 months.
Oh yea, I"ve been using the generic monistat for a few weeks now..I"m still on the same tube. Have you girls gone through more than one tube so far?

I know this is off of the product everyone is talking about but since you all started this I used Dr.Miracles and started taking a multi-vitamin every day
My hair has grown 1/4th of an inch in a week and a half. So then I had to do a touch up perm. And now I Think its been a week an a cpl days and I have more new growth.
I don't know if its the multi-vitamin or Dr.Miracles but thats what I'm using and it works.
Mind you my hair grows very very very slow. Before this I permed my hair ever month and a half so for me to have to do it every week in a half (which im not going to do because thats going to damage my hair) is GREAT!
Just wanted to put that out there.

Well, they are actually the same company. So it really makes no sense to buy them both and use them both.
Plus, you'll be applying stuff to your scalp if you use the Mega-Tek and/or Ovation Cell Therapy too.
I can vouch for the Ovation. It made my hair stronger and less likely to break. And it did see to make my hair grow a little faster. Then again, I took prenatal vitamins too.

I am so desperate to grow my hair. Because I stripped it and dyed it red, it suffered alot of damage and I lost alot of hair due to breakage. Then I had to cut off like 2 inches.
I want to have my hair to the middle of my back by around November, cause I am thinking about dancing again and feel more confident with long hair.
I guess I am gonna have to try this, combined with biotin and maybe a hair vitamin every day. I am dying to see some results from you guys that have been doing it!

Hmm I think I need to stop. My hair is so soft now I can't do anything with it! I know I'm washing it more than usual (usually only once a week or as needed), but it's so soft and floppy I can't do a damn thing with it at work. Maybe I need to keep it up but start wet setting my hair again? It will not curl. Or straighten.

can someone recommended which monistat to use? they have so many different kind... 1 day 3 days 7 days.. plus, how do you use it? what i mean is, isn't monistat something that you inject into your vagina? do you just push it out onto a plate and then just mash it up and put it on your scalp? i got my hair "trimmed" and the top layers are too short. i can't even wear extensions without feeling like i'm sporting a mullet.

Any of them are fine. As long as you get it w/ miconazole nitrate you're good. DO NOT buy the chafing cream

I seem to be unable to do that. I have a hard time getting it on the scalp itself without getting it on the hair and by the time morning comes it has wandered all over my head.

I'm measuring my normal hair growth rate to get a baseline before I start the monistat. Another 7 or 8 wks and I'll have some rough numbers and then I'm gonna try this and compare.

Are you parting your hair? Maybe you are using to much. When I part my hair left to right, I only use about 2-3 dabs (no more) of the monistat stuff PER part line. Maybe you're being to heavy handed.

Yep. I'm putting it on liek hair dye-part, apply, part over an inch, apply. I may very well be too heavy handed with it. I'll try using less! It IS hard to get the hair on the back on the parts though!

I want to try!
I read through the entire forum but I'm still unclear about frequency v. duration.
Which promotes more hair growth: leaving on for 1 week or applying everyday after wash? Or does a combo work better like wash 2x per week and apply after wash?
I'd imagine if you left it on for 1 week all the natural oils from your hair and filth would clog the pores?
Also, before I go to the feed store looking for Mega Tek I just want to clarify: I can use the one made specifically for horses? They didn't make one specifically for humans with different ingrediants, right?

Most women do shampoo their hair daily. I do not and I'm still experiencing the same amount of growth as those who shampoo daily.
You can use either one. It's made for horses but its originally formula was meant for humans. So yea, its safe to use. Some posters (in the other forums) went to the equestrian stores (horse store) and they got the mega-tek their. You can do that, if you dont feel like waiting on your shipment online. :)

I am experiencing alot of noticable growth BUT I did not measure my hair (no rulers around). I promise to head to the store sometime this week to do a proper hair measurement. I'll post my results then.

I copy/pasted directly from the hair thread:
most people are using the coat rebuiler in the 16oz bottle
there are some link in this thread on what site you can order from but don't use easypet it takes long to deliever
Ahhhhhh mega-tek is the SHIZNIT!!!!
Yea it is also used for horses but it is a human cross over product.. in fact originally it made for women with alopecia but it is mainly used for horses and or dogs with bald spots.. it smell yummy also (licks lips). Ovation is a very similar product which does exactly the same thing but costs a little more. A lot of people mix the 2.
MEGA-TEK™ REBUILDER 16oz.

Yeah, but do you use it as a conditioner or is it a shampoo or a mask or what? And do you leave it in or wash it out?
Yek, I applied it to my scalp and would do a hair treatment with it every fortnight; followed by a deep conditioning moisture treatment, for protein and moisture balance . It is protein based so you don't want to apply it to the hair all the time but it will strengthen the hair.
Every night I would mix apply it to my scalp and rinse it out in the morning

OK so applying Monistat to the scalp is much harder then I expected lol -- thought I would just put it in the supplied applicator and use it like a glue stick ;) I have never had a yeast infection and had no idea just how soft the cream was - I literally gooshed the shit all over my hair eck! I am wondering if a syringe might work better....? I am walkin' around with MAJOR Monistat head today... :D which set off anxiety every time I go to fix my hair - I feel the need to wash so as not to grow hair on my knuckles :-\ hehe

I just apply it straight from the tube. I through the applicator away. I just apply a little bit to finger. I part my hair left ear to right ear and apply a small amount (usually 3x per parting)

found an easy way to apply the monistat! mix with a little water, dip a q-tip in, hold sections of hair away from scalp, and the q tip will slide between the hair and just get the scalp. Just remember to dip it often. Took me almost no time at all and easily got my entire head.

Sorry to be the one to ask but is any one else worried about the side-effects of using monistat on your scalp? I really want to give this a try but have not found enough info on the negative effect of this treatment. The only thing I was able to find was this woman's theory on longhaircommunity.com
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=156&highlight=monistat&page=43
"Hi folks:
I am a biologist, but not a medical doctor. I can think of several reasons why using monistat for hair growth is potentially a bad idea.
1. Physiological reasons. Antifungal drugs are metabolized through the liver, and they are known to be hard on the liver in general. I don't know how much stress topical monistat puts on the liver but 1) research probably hasn't been done on the long term effects, since the product is intended to be used for 7 day. Also, the effects on the liver of antifungals, including Miconazoles, can be influenced greatly by drug-drug interactions. People who have to take antifungals internally for long periods of time (for example to treat toenail infections) generally have their liver function monitored carefully by bloodtests, and also doctors pay close attention to other medications being used by these patients.
2. Ecological reasons. Your body houses a community of organisms. If one type is suppressed, others can overgrow. This is why yeast infections often follow antibiotic treatments. Suppression of bacteria allows normal yeasts to overgrow. Yeasts and bacteria don't just grow in the vagina, but in the GI tract, our mouths, and skin. I wonder if there is the potential for the reverse to be true -- if long-term suppression of yeasts could make bacterial infections more likely
3. Evolutionary. Probably the most important reason. Anytime we try to poison or kill pests or disease-causing organisms, natural selection happens. Certain pests or disease agents will have genes that give them some resistance to our meds and poisons. Thus we have proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, insecticide resistant insect pests, and herbicide-resistant weeds. They develop surprisingly fast. Everytime a new antibiotic is developed, a resistant strain of something will pop up within a couple of years. Roundup-resistant weeds popped up within a couple of years of the introduction of Roundup-ready genetically modified crops. A quick search of pub-med found papers in the scientific literature that showed there is genetic variation among yeast strains that cause different susceptibility to azole antifungals. Thus, there is the potential for natural selection to favor those most resistant. You could be selecting for Miconazole nitrate resistant yeast on your body by long term use of monistat to grow hair. Maybe that's no big deal until people who are immune-compromised start getting infected by these.
Just some things to think about, and perhaps research more.
Sedonia"
Plus I found alot of people get headaches from this treatment

I too have read that some women experience headaches. I haven't, and no other member on this site has either..unless they haven't reported it. Anyway, along side the link/post you pasted on here..just below that, another poster has the exact same opinion as I have.
LHCforumMember:
thank you for that little reminder. Everyone who does this, does so at there own risk. Some people are successful , others not so much. Most who have tried have gone through extensive research through thousands of post and articals including anything we could find on the topic.
i agree ; long term use could result in negative side effects (like years of constant use) but i doubt 2 times week sparingly for a few months would have long term damage on the body.
and yes your body could build up antibodies to the antifungl treatment , but wouldn't that again have to be introduced on a constiantly alamost every day like basis?
just my thoughts. I doubt seriously i would continue on for years putting monistat on my head.
Anyway, like the poster said, no one here is doing this for years on end. There are many other COUNTLESS products we ingest and apply topically on our bodies that will/may have long term effects. But again, as she said you do so at your own risk.

I understand everyone does this at their own risk, and I am aware that there are plenty of products on the market that are harmful. However, my concern is mostly becoming resistant to the treatment. What happens once the fungus on your head becomes resistant to the Monistat? Which can happen in a matter of weeks, not necessarily years.I have tinea versicolor, which is a very common overgrowth of the yeast on your body. The same one that is on your head, which is being treated with the monistat. This fungus usually causes little spots of discoloration (sunspots) on the body, but is also known to slow down hair growth. So if the fungus on your head becomes resistant, what will treat it when it gets out of control again? Basically, I’m worried that after the amazing growth will come extreme shedding once the Monistat no longer works. Then what will we use to fix that?
I’m not trying to criticize anyone who uses this treatment, because I wan’t to use this myself. I’m just looking for some more info.

Well, in that case, I think you have a much bigger issue on your hands than the majority of the posters here. I know nothing about tinea versicolor so I cant' be of much help in that area. Since you are nervous of the monistat maybe you should look into the Mega-Tek.

I have tinea and I've never had it become resistant to anti-fungal creams (or the henna I use on my hair). Does fungus become resistant? I'm not sure-it's not a bacteria.

I think I'm going to start using my GSE tonight. I've been using kosher gelatin for the past month or so and my nails are soooo much stronger now and grow even more quickly than before. I'm sure it'll have a similar effect on my hair. I want my hair to get really big and curly - and then I'm adding some more blonde to it so I can be fabulous.
