It's official, 8 gold medals for Michael Phelps. That's more than anybody has ever won in a single Olympics.
It's also official, he's not human.

Figured I'd better throw this one in too keep the thread on topic, here he is with a hot blonde.

Two Golds as of this morning ^^^ but hey, we know our place in the world. We are definitely lightweights.
On another note, I have the same amount of medals as 143 countries at the moment.

The only gold medal Canada cares about is Ice Hockey. Should they not win in 2010, watch as the Canadian population drops suddenly as a result of people jumping out of tall igloos.

Did anybody catch Usain Bolt in the 100 meters?
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1974/usainbolt2eb3.jpg
It wasn't even close, he coasted the last 15 meters and still set a world record. Dude is fast. Couldn't he have waited for the race to end to showboat though??

He left himself a little slack so he can set new records for the next couple of years. Welcome to SuperStardom Mr. Bolt.

Very nice, Docido.
Is the ability to generate boners an Olympic sport? If so, here's a potential gold medalist, Paraguayan javelin thrower Leryn Franco (saw her in the opening cermonies). Javelin thrower? How about javelin swallowing?

When did all these hot chicks start particpating in sports? So much better than rooting for lesbians shaped like washing machines.
CPShe threw today, results apparently not spectacular according to nbcolympics.com. I'm guessing she looked damn good though. Here's another pic.

I wish there was some way major league baseball would allow their players to participate. If they did I would certainly watch. As it stands now, I have zero interest because the best players in the game aren't there.

Honestly, I think part of the reason MLB isn't interested in their players participating is because of the drug testing they'd have to go through at the Olympics. It would look bad to have even more players test positive for steroids.

I posted this upstairs but I kind of hope the Dream Team loses. Tatted-up, pampered millionaires and the Olympics don't mix well IMHO. It was so much better when the Olympics was truly an amateur competition. These guys don't even stay with the rest of the athletes in the village. At least previous Dream Teams didn't. Most of the athletes work their whole life for the opportunity to stay there but these guys think themselves too good for it?
Its just so hard to root for them.
Actually BEM, more elite athletes than you realize don't stay in the Olympic village. Many choose to find locations close to training facilities in order to maintain there standard training regimen and so as not to break their concentration while preparing for their event.
I'm with you on the pro vs. amateur deal, I don't pay much attention to Olympic basketball anymore, but that ship sailed years ago when the IOC decided that the pros could compete.
In fairness to this year's crop of tattooed millionaires, the players on this team made a three year commitment to practice together during the NBA off-season and it pated off for them. They played like a team, showed minimal attitude, and won the gold in a close final game.
I'll still take a good game of women's beach volleyball over any game of Olympic hoops

The NHL has done it for the last three Winter Olympics. They just don't have the All-Star game that year and extend the usual All-Star break by a week.

They just don't have the All-Star game that year and extend the usual All-Star break by a week.well, thanks to Bud Selig and fan popularity. the All-Star game isn't going back to being an exhibition game any time soon. it determines home-field advantage for the World series. also, MLB season is long enough as it is (twice as long as hockey). i don't want to see baseball during thanksgiving.
Synchronized swimming?who can tell? all one can see are legs and arms.

I forgot about the home-field advantage factor of the MLB all star game. But I completely agree about the length of season. It's the only reason I don't pay attention to baseball until a month before the postseason.

MLB is beyond mid-season. The playoff races are heating up. There is no way an MLB club is going to allow one of their stars to run off to the Olympics at this time of year.

One thing I've discovered by lurking on volleyball fan boards and youtube is that a lot of the male fans have a fetish for tall women. The second thing I've discovered is that eastern European fans are absolutely batshit insane. Whenever Polish and Russian fans argue it's inevitable the words "Russian/Polish Whores" are going to be used in reference to the other sides' team. And this is before it gets really ugly. :O

You know, if this trend keeps going, all the women athletes in London in 2012 are gonna be 7' tall supermodels. No wonder this Olympics got the best ratings in history, despite being about 12 time zones ahead of most of the USA.

I didn't pay attention to the Olympics this time around (I rarely do.) But when I chanced across it on the tv, I only saw speed walking and ping pong (this last one several times.)
What the fuck is going on that the only Olympic sports I saw even accidentally (considering it was being played on so many stations) was fucking speed walking and PING PONG???

I hope this isn't a repeat but I'm too lazy to look:
A good laugh is appreciated.
Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far
during the Olympics that they would like to take back:
1. Weight-lifting commentator: This is Gregorieva from Bulgaria . I
saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.
2. Dressage commentator: This is really a lovely horse and I speak
from personal experience since I once mounted her mother.
3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother
and father.
4. Boxing Analyst: Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths
in boxing, but none of them really that serious.
5. Softball announcer: If history repeats itself, I should think we
can expect the same thing again.
6. Basketball analyst: He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't
like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.
7. At the rowing medal ceremony: Ah, isn ' t that nice, the wife of
the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.
8. Soccer commentator: Julian Dicks is everywhere. It ' s like they've
got eleven Dicks on the field.
9. Tennis commentator: One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is
that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses
them... Oh my God, what have I just said?
