Like many I thought that you would make 1,000 or more every night.

-That everyone was great at pole and you got tipped tons on stage. Seriously, why does every movie/TV show always show strippers dancing on this packed stage for 1 song and then going back and sitting in a fancy-ass dressing room with their own personal makeup table for an hour between sets? Has it EVER been like that? I doubt it lol
IKR^?!

that you walked around the floor in nothing but pasties and a Gstring LOL or if it was a nude club that you'd walk around naked
that you just spent all your time up onstage
i had NO idea that champagne rooms even existed
that perverts would follow you out into the parking lot and attack you
i was also shocked when i saw one dollar bills being put up on stage, i was like "how the hell do strippers make ANY money if all the guys are putting up are 1s??"
that you had to be SUPER skinny with huge tits to work there, and that's all that strip clubs accepted as far as body types go. i remember working out at 110 pounds before auditioning because i felt i wasn't skinny enough haha

I initially didn't even know about nonurban strip clubs. So my image of a strip was pretty much a girl with a huge ass, nice breasts, and insane dancing and pole tricks. I kinda knew there were other types of dances but I guess you never really hear about that when you're from where I'm from. So I was always super scared to audition because I lack all of those things. I'm so glad I found this site!

Resuscitating this fun old thread...
I had these misconceptions SO RECENTLY that it's embarrassing. Like I had them just before I started stripping.
1. I thought strippers made their money on stage
2. I didn't know lap dances were a thing. I knew about them as a thing you do for your significant other on Valentine's Day, but I honestly didn't know that it was a big part of stripping. I had a vague idea that they happened, but I thought they happened as part of a show (maybe that happens in Magic Mike, and that's where I got the idea?)
3. I had NO idea stripping was a sales job. That intimidated the fuck out of me when I started reading SW - and then got me even more excited about mastering the job.
4. This is the worst but I honestly thought stripping was a last resort job. I'd had it in the back of my mind ever since a friend took me to a bikini bar years ago and my mind was blown by all the hotness, but I thought I'd try it if I ever was going to become homeless or something. It wasn't until a couple weeks ago when I thought - why would I make myself wait until I become homeless? Why not just start doing this job that I am clearly drawn to now, and stop being so goddamn poor all the time? Now I wonder why I ever thought that. Why would a well-paying job that keeps you in shape be a last resort? Most people couldn't make it in stripping if it was their first choice of career! I guess I thought after you took your clothes off for money, you crossed some sort of Rubicon of humanity that you couldn't uncross. But that is stupid, bigoted bullshit fed to me by society and it's not real. The girls at my club are hot, smart, talented, and could be doing a million different things and their souls seem entirely intact. Mine included.
5. I thought all strippers kept it a secret. I was so surprised to see that many strippers post about it on social media like it's nbd. I think it SHOULD be nbd, so I don't know why I was so surprised about this.

for one : I didn't believe there were girls w pimps, or girls selling **ssy, or doing drugss, or all the other crazy shit I've seen xD
I thought I was going to get in and get out, cuz that's what society wants us to do . But I found a job I love and pays well so everyone can SMD.
IT REALLY IS AN ART FORM. it takes creativity , imo. from the outfits, to the stage shows (pole floor etc). Even in conversation you have to be different than everyone else. That to me rlLY takes creativity .

I thought that poles didn't spin and strippers were just really greasy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1. That girls were playboy/model-esque/pornstar looks only.
2. I didn’t realize the poles spun.
3. That it was a sales job, in which you perfect over time. <—— this one I learned real quick.
4. That girls can dance on their periods. I assumed they took the time off each month.
5. That managers may try and take advantage. Naive, but when I first started I had a manager that kept coming in the dressing room and trying to stick his hand in my thong. Other girls let him, I didn’t. That made things difficult. Out of all my managers I had over 7 years, I’d say less than a handful didn’t try to take advantage of either myself or other girls sexually.

1.) I didn’t realize how much talking I would have to do
2.) I thought dancers made HELLA stage money on the reg
3.) I thought I would hear sexual healing by Marvin Gaye every night at the club (my first two strip clubs I was a patron at played it those nights) and honestly I’m upset about this one LOL

My thoughts were already listed a couple times. Basically that money was gonna be thrown at you left and right, and that you had to model hot.

I thought it was a really dangerous job and dancers were just at the whim of every man and every thing...!! ??

I thought that I will only have to dance. I wasn't prepared about how much talking I will have to do and how some people would pay to talk to you. I've never been a very talkative or social person.
