while it wasnt, the post which this is derived from while give you background info as to why i said it. i'm not saying each and every abortion is medically unecessary.
Sooooo..... (from the original thread) A woman who takes responsible measures, that are sabotaged by a quite probably abusive psycho, without her knowlege and against her will, still counts as having a "cosmetic" pregnancy? Do tell. Maybe this will prepare me for the full wading of custy bullshit at work today.

So which is it? No abortion is medically necessary or no abortion except for medical necessity? (And by the way, mental health is considered part of the medical health spectrum)
In Melbourne Australia abortion is technically still illegal (a fact I was surprised to learn in law school because it's such a common practice) except for medical necessity. However medical necessity does receive a broad interpretation here and includes mental health and even socioeconomic considerations for the mother.

Didn't you just say that your cousin shouldn't have gone on to have more children that she couldn't afford?
A candidate for abortion if ever I heard one, maybe if she had been through that kind of experience she wouldn't have gone on to two more pregnancies she couldn't afford.
'point about my 22 year old cousin is that she knew she couldn't afford a baby so why have 3 more? more children equal more stamps.'

the government should help people. that's what they are there for. but look at all the people out here just abusing the system with their 30 dollar rent and 15 million children yet doing hair on the porch getting money. it should be there, but regulated better. and i know in tennessee it's getting much better cuz they're serving all the dads with child support orders to pay the state back. my mama lost her job of 12 years when the warehouse closed down and was only getting child support and unemployment, yet she made "too much money" to get assistance
Pot meet kettle.
You have a job about to have 2 jobs, and you receive assistance. Have you reported ALL of your income to the welfare office and WIC office?
If not, you are just as much of a welfare abuser as anyone.

Go ahead and try to find a Dr. willing to sterilize a 22 y.o. woman in the US. This is part of the problem. To solve the abortion problem, Dr.s need to be willing to help the women that wish for sterilization.
It is an ordeal for women who already have children. It practically takes an act of congress for childless women under 30.

Ok I couldn't read through, HG's rubbish.I don't mind paying my damn taxes in order to pay for a surgical procedure which I feel is a necessity for SOME women,
Now, HG....isn't the taxpayers paying for your damn child. I don't have a child but aren't you getting WIC....why should taxpayers pay for ur bad decision of having a child you can barely afford to feed.
I'm so sick of so called women thinking abortions are something we wake up in the morning and yawn and say "I want to get rid of this thing inside me." We pay dearly everyday of reminders of what could of been. I still know my childs birthday, I'm reminded everyday.....its not cosmetic.

Someone stupid enough to accidentally get pregnant while not on birth control is also too stupid to be raising children... thus... back to my statement:
FREE ABORTIONS FOR EVERYONE!!!
Quoted for fucking truth!
I also wanna add: Why FORCE a woman who is dead set on an abortion into motherhood?! Isn't that just a recipe for disaster for the child? A mother that will NOT end up taking good care of the child she never wanted anyway?

If you feel so strongly about it then you should have done some more research before making this thread. Your opinions are very much unfounded and based on a single state and very few healthcare programs within that state.
If you really wanted to show how strongly you feel about government assistance you should research different programs in different states and how they are funded, how much they are funded and from whom, who are the majority of people benefiting from such programs and so on.

What about to welfare for the baby's medical card?
That is welfare fraud and can get your lil ass in a sling.
What are Some Examples of Welfare Fraud?
Welfare Fraud laws vary from state to state, but some common activities that constitute welfare fraud include:
Failing to Report Income, Assets, Employment, Marital Status, Child Support, or other Financial Information
Using a False Identity to Obtain Welfare Benefits
Failing to Disclose Criminal Record or Outstanding Warrant
Applying for the Same Benefits under Multiple Names
Receiving Benefits from Multiple States
Fraudulently Reporting that a Parent or Child is Living in the Home
Intentionally Failing to Report a Change in Eligibility StatusWhat Are the Consequences of Welfare Fraud?
The penalties for welfare fraud include:
Imprisonment
Repayment of Benefits Unlawfully Received
Denial of Future Benefits
Fines
Criminal Charges

I'm sure not. When I worked at Burger King for min wage, I had to cut my hours down once every so often (when they checked paystubs) because my roomate recieved WIC for her daughter. My stupid little piddling $5.25 an hour job raised the income for the entire household (and I was the only one working over 15 hrs a week) over the threshold.

AND over the age of 25 in most places, and in some over age 30.
I was 24 when I miscarried then got my tubes tied, but my Dr. knew if I got pregnant again, that it would kill me, and that he would suspend his former belief that "no woman under 25 is mature enough to say they don't want more kids", and did it cause it was the morally correct thing to do.

HG if you agree that welfare should assist people temporarily while they are in need then I don't know how u cannot agree that women who cannot afford abortions should be given assistance in getting them.
It's really the same thing, someone in need being helped by the government except one is financial welfare and one is medical.
You have changed your mind several times in this thread and your arguments keep changing and you have even moved onto the separate issue of government assistance.

You know how sometimes you say something, then upon further consideration go.... HMMM..... Maybe I didn't think that through all the way.
Why not go ahead and admit this is one of those things?
No shame in being wrong.
I do it every year when our taxes are due. I get all in a huff over having a $40,000+ tax liability that helps support others kids... Especially those who have them knowing damn well they can't pay for them. Then I come back to reality and get off my moral-superiority high horse and realize paying for these abortions is better than the alternative.

You NEVER said anything about temporary; you bitched about your cousin having kids in the system; well SO DO YOU!
But RIGHT NOW the people ARE paying for it!
And what happens if something bad happens to her and she is in the hospital for a long time?
(Happened to a dear friend of mine, her child fell out of the bedroom window (since the screen was loose) and broke 14 bones and punctured her lung, she was in ICU for 1 month @ 20K/day, plus 2 more months in a hospital room, and yes it was deemed not her fault.)
His child support will NOT cover the whole cost. The state WILL end up eating it.
Child support is based on HIS income as well as your income. Not on how much the state spent on medical care. So G-d forbid something happens, but if it does; the people WILL pay for it.
