I'm wondering if it's possible that McCain, given his age, since a second term would be unlikely, could enter his first term and give the bird to his party and return to the McCain of 2000? I'd be willing to give that a chance except with the potential to fill a couple SCOTUS seats and his VP choice, the long term risks are too great.

LMAO! Looks like McCain campaign is going to get sued by the band Heart because McCain refused to stop playing their Barracuda song. On top of that the band was quoted as saying they are puzzled by the use of a song about "soulless" executives as the theme for his running mate, Sarah Palin. Maybe it’s a Freudian thing ;)

The problem ( as I see it ) with McCain's speech was that it was long on rhetoric and short on specifics, sort of like every speech I've ever heard from Obama.
I was hoping to hear from specific thigs like: What will you do about illegal immigration? and : When will you start drilling for oil?
Enough already with the "my friends" stuff and talking about standing up and fighting for this or fighting for that.

LMAO....I totally heard that song playing last night...Republicans always want to come off as such angry bitches....and they complain about the angry left.
They love to booo too. Not a gracious openminded group at all.

I'm guessing what he went through still resonates in his mind and his resultant physical limitations are an every day reminder of those years. I imagine those experiences would difficult to discard. But I can see how what happened to him in a POW camp 30+ years ago wouldn't have much meaning to you. I mean, after all this is 2008.

It would mean something to me if he was not such a HYPOCRIT. I don't need to hear his POW story 100 times to give him respect for it.....especially when he is USING it for the sympathy vote.
Today, Sen. John McCain spoke to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (http://www.vfw.org/) in Kansas City, MO. He spoke at length about the sacrifice paid by U.S. soldiers in Iraq, acknowledging “how little has been asked of others (http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/10912) compared to their service” and declaring that the nation owes veterans “a debt that we can never fully repay.”
He also said that veterans should have access to “the highest quality health…care in the world” upon returning:
As President, I will do everything in my power to ensure that those who serve today and those who have served in the past have access to the highest quality health, mental health and rehabilitative care in the world. The disgrace of Walter Reed must not be forgotten. … Whatever our commitments to veterans cost, we will keep them, as you have kept every commitment to us. The honor of a great nation is at stake.
Not only has he refused to support the 21st Century GI Bill (http://thinkprogress.org/2008/04/03/new-gi-bill/), which the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorsed last June (http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/06/military_gibill_overhaul_070613w/), he has consistently voted against (http://www.veteransforcommonsense.org/articleid/9559) increasing funding for the Veterans’ Administration, which oversees all medical care for veterans:
– Voted AGAINST an amendment providing $20 billion to the VA’s medical facilities. [5/4/06 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00111)]
– Voted AGAINST providing $430 million to the VA for outpatient care “and treatment for veterans,” one of only 13 senators to do so. [4/26/06 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00098)]
– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes. [3/14/06 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00041)]
– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.8 billion by ending “abusive tax loopholes.” [3/10/04 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=2&vote=00040)]
^^ I recall that on the education related bill he was opposed because he believed the bill did not combine the benefit with encouraging reenlistment. The others I don't know. Perhaps they were loaded with earmarks. You probably have researched that.

McCain can't even pass a TORTURE bill when he was a victim of it himself.

According to the KKK's religion, being black is wrong. Does that mean they're not bigots for being against blacks?
That's not even a remotely fair comparison, and of course you kind find a whackjob who thinks all people but him are wrong. Christianity says it's wrong, but it still says Jesus loves them, unlike what the KKK preaches. The two simply don't equate.
I hesitate to call the KKK a 'religion', since they are reguarly shot down for tax shelters.

McCain can't even pass a TORTURE bill when he was a victim of it himself.Back in 2005, he faced the Bush Administration down by having them include anti-torture language that they didn't want in a defense spending bill.

That doesn't excuse him for supporting legislation that discriminates against homosexuals.

Isn't his job spose to be to represent his constituents? To do what he beleives is best for them, and they elect him fully knowing what his beleifs are? It totally excuses him, not that he needs and excuse.

No, it doesn't.
So, are you saying it was right for all of the segregationists in Congress to vote against the Civil Rights Act since they were doing what they thought was best for their constituents?

Christianity says it's wrong? Do you have a direct line with God that I don't know about and he told you that?
Watch this documentary sometime and maybe you won't be so ignorant in the future.
