Practice. It's not hard once you learn it... but it takes a bit of practice to be able to get nice straight lines like that.

First post from a potentially-curious-future-stripper! Been lurking on the forum for the past couple of days. I think I'm going to audition some time early Dec., but I over analyze everything...so I'm prepping myself by reading books, practicing dancing, and reading SW religiously. Worried I'm going to make a fool of myself... :-\

Aw, thank you! That means a lot. I suffer from slight anxiety, so I'm trying to get my confidence up before I attempt to dance. I think I'm an attractive girl, but some times I get so shy and nervous, all I can think about is all the rejection that is inevitable when you strip and someone turns you down. I've played with the idea of dancing in addition to my full time job for months now, just have to build up the nerve...especially since I dance like a scrawny white girl with no rhythm, lol.
P.S. I have seen every episode of Buffy like a gazillion times. Was wondering if this could make a good stage name for me, or is that silly?

Haha - this was TOTALLY me when I started! Seriously, I had dance training but so much of it was classical dance & ballet that I really had to learn how to loosen up. I started coming out of being super shy at 15, but even at 20 outside the club I was a bit shy. Dancing did such wonderful things for me though... especially when it came to getting over the shyness & nerves. I was always a worry wart. The best way to get over that is to be prepared!

I probably wouldn't choose Buffy. Choose something that sounds realistic and that goes with your young, girl-next-door / schoolgirl look. Something approachable and realistic but still sexy. Otherwise guys will constantly be making jokes about your name, asking if it's real, demanding your real name, etc.

I wouldn't waste any more time worrying--what with the current, very serious decline in hiring standards, and your very serious good looks--you don't have a damned thing to worry about except how to spend the money you will be making.
OTOH, preparing yourself well will mean it will be a lot easier starting. But brace yourself, this business isn't all fun and games. It can be downright brutal at times...

You're a total hottie and I love your sn (and buffy)! You kinda look like SMG. I'm not sure about Buffy for a stage name. Maybe you could pick another Joss Whedon character? I think that Dawn, Faith, Dru, Kennedy, Riley, Cassie, Gwen (hot electricity girl on Angel), or firefly's Kaylee, Inara, or Zoe all would be pretty cute.
I have seriously bad anxiety. When I get anxious at work I try not to analyze and just focus on "living in the moment." I can research like crazy but the only thing that really helps my anxiety over rejection is not processing it on an intellectual level (that's worded so awkwardly, sry if it doesn't make sense!).

11-07-2010, 09:40 AM
Damn, I thought Buffy would fit so well because how obsessed I am with her. Besides, she's so sexy and a bad ass, who wouldn't want her alias? Hehe. Hey, what about Harmony (the blonde cheerleader ditz who turned vamp), or am I still straying too far with believable names? I might go with Faith, just not sure how common it's going to be.
Thank you everyone so much for the advice and compliments. It really helps. I know it's not all glamorous and fun, but I think it helps my anxiety thinking about it in that way for now, lol. I know if I were to concentrate on anything else before I start, I'd probably talk myself out of even trying it out. Once I just get over the couple of panic attacks/extreme shaking on stage, I'm sure I'll calm down and get more comfortable. Does anyone suggest me taking a pre-shot or maybe something to help with anxiety before I go on stage for the first time? I don't plan on making that an every time thing at all, but wasn't sure if this would some how backfire on me doing it the first time.

I'll second this! It's unique.
With Kaylee you will run into tons of problems. There are soooo many names that start with "K" in the club & in the universal DJ voice they often all sound the same.

Don't do this. Really. If you have to do it the first time it becomes habit. Try not to get into needing a drink before work - it's usually a path to destruction.
We should probably move this stuff to another thread....

Go with something believable or be prepared to spend half your time convincing guys that yep, Buffy or Fifi or whatever is REALLY your name and your parents were just goofy. Also, I second avoiding the pre-stage shot. I did that during my first stint of dancing and I ended up having to do it more than half the time. After retiring a few years and coming back, I did it sober and NEVER needed a shot after that first night or two of going in sober and a bit nervous. Gotta admit though, I'd have never learned to walk in the shoes without alcohol. It loosened me up enough not to wobble and tiptoe till I got used to em. Lots of girls wipe out trying this though. ;)

Don't guys already know that all strippers use an alias name? Do they actually believe it when a girl goes "No really, that's my real name" to even a normal sounding name? I wouldn't think choosing a name like Precious or Jane would make a difference in guys hounding you about it.

Many do know, but trust us, drunk obnoxious guys will give you ENDLESS shit about it if your name is too out there. A normal name seems to pacify the drunk and/or just insistent annoying guys. ;) I dealt with Jasmine for my entire stripper career and I was a take-no-shit domme bitch in the club and still wanted to stab a few morons with my stilleto for just being too damn annoying and whining about it being obviously fake.

what is funny is i worked under the name Sebastiane (pronounced as though spelled Sebastianne) which is a part of my real name, and guys almost never questioned it.
i think it just sounded to out of the norm to have been made up. it did get a lot of "where are your parents from?" questions as they all thought i must be european. then again, they all thought that before knowing my name, lol.
just pick a name you will be able t remember and will be able to discern over the noise of the club. dont pick something that sounds like a million other things.
if you need a second name, pick something insanely boringly "normal" like Sarah or Ann or something

All this name talk reminds me of this past week. I was sitting in the dentist office waiting my turn when i was amused by the 2 girls names called before mine. One girl was "Bambi" and i giggled. Soon after was "Cinnamon". I think the lady across from me thought the same thing cause we both just raised an eyebrow and smiled. They didnt know each other or anything which made it even more rare.
Ok, back on topic.
