Many nations have compulsory voting. It is nice that we have the option here in the US to vote or not as we choose. When I was small my mother didn't vote and her reason was that she would just let my dad's vote speak for her too.
As I got to be voting age and turned out to be a liberal, while she was a conservative, she decided that she needed to vote in order to cancel out my vote;D.
It is kind of funny, because if I hadn't been so politically active in my late teens, my mom may have never registered to vote. Although my mom and I are at opposite ends of the political spectrum, we can discuss politics and still have good feelings for each other.
My mom would say today that it is amazing the ways children change your life. I really did contribute to her becoming aware of her own political opinions and acting on those opinions.

Well, no, but that's why I look in a variety of news sources (liberal, conservative, local, international). I mean, I can't exactly run my own investigation into Palin's career as mayor of Wasilla. :D
Of course we can’t. And with all the lies each side tells just to promote their own personal agenda I do not feel I know enough truth to make an informed decision and vote.
My lack of trust in the media is soooo depressing.

My state is going to go blue.... so why bother voting when my work is already done for me?

my state is blue for president, but split between repub and dem for everything else.
also there are bunch of initiatives on the ballot to deal with. so in my case, voting is pretty important even if it wasn't a presidential year.
your state probably has something important on the ballot that very few people will be voting on because 'it's not the presidential race'.
which is why 20 percent of the voting population determines on the local levels how the other 80 percent will live.

McCain isn't in the best health, so if he dies while in office................ SARAH PALIN WOULD BE PRESIDENT.
I'll vote for Obama for that reason alone!

I think obama is gonna win. BY ALOT.
Not that that makes me at all happy as im not a huge fan of socialism.
I already commented on why i dislike both candidates... the only thing left to say is i cant wait for 2012.

I’m one of those non-voters.
There is so much I disagree with about both parties I just can’t bring myself to vote for either one.
Bummer :(

So don't!
Write someone in.

Write someone in.
When you write someone in you can just write in any name. I was wondering about that when I voted last wk I saw the write in slot.

Obama is a smart man. I will credit him that. Hes a smooth talker and seems to get out of everything. The media has a field day with Palin and McCain but they go VERY easy on Obama and it really scares me.
The media has built him to be some sort of messiah.
Plus we just dont know enough about him.
We are comparing him to palin which just shows how forgetable MCCAIN is.
I dont want Palin to run the country either dont get me wrong.
Its really a bad predicament to be in all around.

obama is not secretive or evasive about anything. you should do more research on him if youwant to know because everything is very out in the open.

i think the electoral college is a good idea.
they know more about the candidates thatn the general public. its actually their job to research the candidates and the issues. more americans dont take the time to make an informed decision.
WTH are you talking about? The electoral college is the reason we've been suffering through one of the worst presidents ever, and the reason our county is in the worst state it's been in in decades.
And I agree- it's annoying when people bitch and moan and about the state of things and then say they don't even vote. And I have a hard time believing their really "fighting for" any political cause at all when they can't even be bothered to get off their ass and fill out a ballot once every few years. I'm all for people voting third party (I've done it before) and definitely respect someone for voting their conscience even for a candidate who's very unlikely to win. At least their doing something and making their voice heard.
ARGH! Super irritating to actually hear someone basically say "I hope Obama wins...but not enough to actually be bothered with trying to make that happen in even the simplest way."

lol, yea right. There has been just as much crap towards obama's campaign IF NOT MORE than the mccain/palin campaign (ie. terrorist, racist pastor, exaggerating his tax plans)
But on the OP's topic, I'm a black female. It would be disrespectful to my ancestors to not vote after they fought and died for the right. Even if i hated both candidates to the core, i would vote anyway. Vote independent if i had to...

Zing! Nice one! ;D
Definition of socialism from Webster.com:
1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
Bad news, I'm actually a longtime member.
I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of your posts, sorry if you don't like that.
No, bad news for you LizardQueen and enough with the name calling. I'm no hypocrite and your tone is unappreciated. Like I said before, I don't have to explain myself to anyone, especially not you.
I've done my fair share of alot of things and people get t'd off because they think voting is the end all be all of everything and it's not. I don't have to misrepresent myself as an actioneer when I'm not. I'm very active in my community and because I choose not to vote does not negate that fact.
Get off your soapbox. This thread's about who's not planning to vote for this election. Period. Whatever other agenda you're trying to push here is tiresome at best and your responses mirror that of a troll. I'll call it like I see it.

This is why I vote:
There are many countries where women have no voice whatsoever.
There are countries such as Cuba where desperate people pay boat owners as much as they have to crouch in a boat compartment for three days with no food and water - just to land on the shores of the US.
In China - they tell you how many kids you may have. Freedom of assembly!? Not in China.
The US has a wonderful (not perfect) system of democracy. You may decide to vote or not vote. I just don't ever want to lose that privilege.
