i teared up. i'm very pleased. i voted for obama and i know he's the right man for the job.
that being said, i'm still very saddened by how much of it is a "race" issue. i think it's just as terrible that some people voted for him simply "because" he's black as i do that people would vote against him simply "because" he's black.
there are a lot of people in both categories. make no mistake about it. there are people who would have voted for -or- against him regardless of his stance on the issues. fortunately, i think obama is just as unsettled by that fact as i am.

I agree, because I know some people that didn't even know he was once a muslim, and possibly could still be muslim... before they voted!
why the fuck does that matter? My family is islamic. I have an islamic name. I USED TO BE A MUSLIM!...so i can't run for office now????? get the fuck out of here!

i thought how sad that so many thought it was okay to elect someone based on race alone.
please, please, please.....shut up
it was sad that the same amout of people voted for mccain because he was WHITE.... so that cancels out that stupid comment
and had this election been this big BECAUSE OF RACE....jesse jackson and al sharpton would have been president a while ago.... i'm sick of hearin this bull shit
MY PRESIDENT IS NOT ONLY BLACK.... HE IS IN BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT, CARING.....AND BLACK
Yes we can, change the world!!

Yeah I dont understand why everyone hates Muslims now , one of my closest friends , I consider her family my family , is from Bosnia and they are Muslim .
Just because one group of bad people fall into a certain category ( like the terrorist being Muslim) doesnt mean all people involved are bad .....duh , didnt we learn that in the first grade ?
My first reaction was "wow , maybe there is hope for America after all"
I hope that America remembers that our president cant just make changes , he has to present them to the senate and congress for approval ......which is why Clinton had some much trouble .....right now Obama has an advantage because the Dems are out numbering the Republicans in DC .....this is why its important to vote for all elections and not just the presidency .....The president needs your help , you must vote for local and statewide elections if you want your opinion to matter....
I am still having trouble viewing the speech , I think its my computer ....I am so upset , I was in tears 2 mins into it ....

I am a Republican and even though I voted for McCain, I just had an inkling that Obama was gonna take it from the beginning. I wasn't suprised at all. I cracked open another beer and called some family members.
Being a conservative, I am not hard-core opposed to Obama, though. I would have liked to see things go to the right, but I think he's gonna be a good prez.
I'm not even American and I was SO overwhelmed and moved. I just kept squeezing my boyfriend's hand and crying. It really felt like I was experiencing something that's bigger than politics and definitely bigger than me. There is lots of time for cynicism, and who knows what the future will bring, but this moment, in and of itself, MEANS SOMETHING.

I always think its funny when strippers , drug dealers , white trash , minorities , small business owners , lower income families etc ....call themselves conservatives or vote republican ...its like voting against yourself .....There is a couple on my Myspace that is always promoting porn conventions and such , they voted McCain too ...I was surprised ......I dont care really , I am just saying I find it surprising ...confusing .....

I kissed the people next to me (fiancee, random girl) and did a little victory dance. It has lifted my whole mood! I didn't even realize how much I cared about the election and how much it was stressing me out until it was over.
GO OBAMA! GO USA!
I think this bodes well for the nation. He brings the people hope, and in of itself is extremely important. When American citizens despair at the way the nation is headed, paradoxically, they are less inclined towards action that might save it. Couple that with unprecedented support from minorities (a historically difficult demographic for the average politician to connect with) and I see an excellent climate for positive change up in this bitch.

I was like "Wow. Something I thought would never happen in my lifetime just did".
I felt the same way. I wonder what all the older generation like our grandparents were thinking, they grew up in a time when black people were not even allowed to vote, now they are seeing a black man become president.
I am hopeful that there will be change. I don't think either candidate could fix this fucked up economy of ours, but I do think that Obama was the best choice for foreign policy issues and women's rights, which are the issues that are important to me. I was very happy when he was announced the winner.

I responded like Oprah and Jesse Jackson and many other proud Americans. I was overwhelmed with emotion, tears uncontrollably formed in my eyes and still do when I think about that proud moment. It will be remembered as one for a lifetime. Go Obama!
Me too.
I was at home with my family and I cried like a baby. My stepson was glad Obama won, but he is only 14. I don't think he's ever seen me break down in that kind of emotion before. Even if he didn't fully understand the meaning of this moment, he knows that it was indeed a big deal.
I feel a little weepy right now, too. This is such an amazing moment. Not just for America, but also for the whole world.

WRONG!!!!!!!
The people that voted against Obama because he was black wouldn't have voted for a democrat anyway. Plenty of people who would have voted for McCain or Republican voted for Obama because he's black.
Even people who voted just based on race for Obama, wouldn't have voted for Jackson or Sharpton. That's just a ridiculous thing to say.

You should really be careful who you're talking too and what you're saying, since someone in this thread just talked about closing on a property in Costa Rica. If I made over a $100,000 and could do it from Costa Rica I would go.
The big difference is all the people who said they'd leave during the last years were all talking shit because they couldn't leave.
The people saying they might leave now, they actually can.

Then please do. See ya later! I'm pretty sure it won't be a mass exodus so the 23 people that want to leave the US for a third world country because they are greedy and don't want to have to pay 3% more in taxes (including the 1 person on here who has said the same thing FOR YEARS) are free to go. Send me a postcard.

Shock + running out into the streets screaming "Obamaaa" like the rest of the neiborhood. ;D
Elated that a guy with some color was elected president.:D
Scared that someone would try and assasinate him while he made his speech or will do so before he gets into the White House.:(

and you just made yourself sound stupid. Was jesse and al not black? The people who did support then enough to make them candidates are the people who said, "forget policies, i just want a black man in the white house"
everyone else voted because obama was not only black, but black, and intelligent and felt like the most sincere candidate...

Except it's going to be more than a "small" tax hike. It will have to be to cover all the programs the Dems are pushing. Although the truth is it will be a tax hike for a lot of people not just the rich.
That's in addition to other tax issues certain people will face.
When you couple that with the fact that certain other countries offer even lower tax rates and the current state of the U.S. economy for some people it's a great time to leave the country.

I know WHITE REPUBLICANS who were motivated because of his Race, it may have not been the only issue but it was an issue. What has the majority of the talk about it today focused on?? Oh that's right, that we have a historic guy in office because of his RACE!!!
Jesse and Al are not respected that well in the Black community, they weren't going to even garner enough real attention for people to consider the fact that they would be decent candidates.
I'm so tired of people not knowing shit about what they're talking about. People that didn't vote for Obama can be called racist, dumb, intolerant, redneck, bible thumpers. But god forbid anyone suggest that race helped Obama!!!!

Individual income taxes were 1.2 Trillion in 2007.

This is where you definitely lose me. I'm sure the number is going down, but there have to still be a lot of the old "Reagan Democrats" around - lower middle class blue collar workers who aren't as enlightened on racial issues as some others would be. Many of them would vote for a white Democrat but not a black one.

Increasing the tax rate by 3% on all, would be a lot more than a 3% increase in revenue. Increasing someone's rate by 3% that is in the 15% tax bracket would increase revenue by 20%.

I didn't vote, I don't vote. I go by the George Carlin philosophy, LOL.
I don't care if I get bashed by this post or not, its my opinion, I know I barely post here anymore but I will say I am happy for Obama that he won, great victory for him. I am a Liberal. I just don't think it is 100% right though. I have done some research today on both of them and after reading some things on McCain and if I did vote and I could rewind time I would have voted for him.
Obama came out of no where, I am afraid he is under qualified. McCain has served years in the military and been a war hero and risked his life lots of times for this country, this country means everything to him. I feel McCain earned the presidency for everything he has been through for this country, Obama got the presidency is the simplest way I can put it.
The race thing has nothing to do with it to me. If Obama had the same qualifications as McCain then yes I would be for Obama 100%. I'm just afraid with him not even having a military background if he is going to know what to do with all the threats we have. I'm very anxious over it actually.
The title of this thread is how I reacted, I reacted happy but got very anxious at the same time. That's all I am saying.

I didn't want either one of them, he put hope into people's heads, and those people's hopes are what they put into him. He's an ex-attorney and he fed you BS, you will see at the end of his term he's not going to give us affordable healthcare, none of the good stuff he sweet talked the nation with, just tax increases, and race issues. We need a new party in office to change things imo, whatever color they are, if they have f-ing moose antlers who cares. Some don't trust republicans, because of bush those are the ones that haven't done their research... And.... no not every muslim is a terrorist, but when you lie about being muslim, your HIDING something, and that is something to worry about!!
