I didn't vote, I don't vote. I go by the George Carlin philosophy, LOL.
I don't care if I get bashed by this post or not, its my opinion, I know I barely post here anymore but I will say I am happy for Obama that he won, great victory for him. I am a Liberal. I just don't think it is 100% right though. I have done some research today on both of them and after reading some things on McCain and if I did vote and I could rewind time I would have voted for him.
Obama came out of no where, I am afraid he is under qualified. McCain has served years in the military and been a war hero and risked his life lots of times for this country, this country means everything to him. I feel McCain earned the presidency for everything he has been through for this country, Obama got the presidency is the simplest way I can put it.
The race thing has nothing to do with it to me. If Obama had the same qualifications as McCain then yes I would be for Obama 100%. I'm just afraid with him not even having a military background if he is going to know what to do with all the threats we have. I'm very anxious over it actually.
The title of this thread is how I reacted, I reacted happy but got very anxious at the same time. That's all I am saying.
You earn the presidency by being voted in, bottom line, not by being a war hero, although it is very admirable.

and if mccain had all this so called "experience" in strategy and how the government and the people work....you would think he would have ran a better campaign....
and lets say that mccain dies in office....you think sarah palin has enough "experience" that he preached was so important, to run the country and succeed in foreign affairs?? i don't think so....
obama may prove to us he isn't all that we built him up to be.... but i know 4 damn sure....mccain would have drove this country father into the ground....

It will be more than 3%, and Costa Rica is a great place to live for Americans. I know a few personally who have done it. 3% can be a lot, trust me.
Perhaps it can be a lot, but I don't see that it's worth moving from the First World to Costa Rica, however great a place it can be in some respects. Leaving everything behind to avoid paying more taxes seems like a horribly extreme response. Put it this way, it would take much more than a tax hike to make me leave my country, even for another First World one.
I'm not saying you can't immigrate elsewhere if you like (and if the receiving country will have you), I just think it's a lot like killing a gnat with a machine gun.

By the way, I already live in a country with a fairly high tax rate (far higher than yours, with most people paying 33% and high income earners 48%), but it seems worth it to me given the wealth of services provided for by the state and also much higher minimum wages than in the US.

Sadly we don't get those benefits you get. People will pay more, much more than 3% and get nothing for it.
I totally beleive that I will be paying more in taxes than I do now, and my income is no where close to 250K.
Clinton had the defense budget to slash... Kind of hard for Obama to do that.

I always think its funny when strippers , drug dealers , white trash , minorities , small business owners , lower income families etc ....call themselves conservatives or vote republican ...its like voting against yourself .....There is a couple on my Myspace that is always promoting porn conventions and such , they voted McCain too ...I was surprised ......I dont care really , I am just saying I find it surprising ...confusing .....
Were you referring to me? If so, you assume "stripper" is my whole being and meaning in life...so therefore I shouldn't be a Republican? ..Obviously you do care because if you didn't you wouldn't have been compelled to say anything.
There are alot of reasons I swing to the right. You don't know me. You don't know why I do, you don't know my history or who the fuck I am. You are judging based on a internet persona. Yes, I am a dancer, but who I am as a person and what I have stood for my whole life, my upbringing, my family, you know nothing about. As far as all those "other" people you mentioned, you really know nothing about them either.
Everyone has reasons for why they are they way they are, and it more than likely stems beyond their current choice of employment.
Be prepared to back up such BOLD, illogical, immature comments or just keep it to yourself.
I knew I shouldn't have contributed to this thread (kicking myself in the ass)

its not wrong i guess...i mean you can do what ever you want...you can believe what ever you want.
its just that when you do things like that, people who identify with you feel betrayed.
Its like another black person voting for a racist leader... i'm gonna feel offended that they would vote for someone obviously against who they are. That might not be ALL of who they are...but its still something that defines them.
it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.... no offense

I don't know. If Obama reforms health care, as he has promised to do, then that is a sorely needed service right there. I have a friend who has moved to the US to be with her partner, and she is now unable to afford to see a doctor or get much-needed medication thanks to the system of benefits being tied to employment (her job does not provide health insurance). Additionally, if Obama pulls out of Iraq as promised, that will result in some savings.

I can't speak for her, or what she meant, but it might just be the assumption that liberals are less mainstream and traditional than conservatives, and in the minds of most, dancing isn't mainstream or traditional. I don't think she was trying to imply that stripping is your life, or that it makes up your entire being at all, nor do I think she was trying to say that she knew you, or that you were wrong for feeling the way you do.
Dammit, she might not have even been doing it in direct response to you in the first place -- it may have just been a general analysis.

Are you familiar with the laws in Costa Rica regarding squatters' rights?
there ARE no squatter's rights in Costa Rica. However, there is a gov't guarantee of legal residency provided the person makes a sufficiently large 'business' investment in Costa Rica. In other words ... if you are broke, don't plan on staying more than a few weeks ... but if you have the means to support yourself and provide a couple of jobs for unemployed Costa Ricans then welcome aboard !
And what sort of taxes can be avoided by becoming a Costa Rican ex-patriate ? Well for starters the 15.3% social security / medicare tax on every single dollar of US business income disappears. Then the soon to be 39.6% tax on business income and short term capital gains disappears. Also going away would be the current 15% soon to be 20% tax on dividends and long term capital gains. And this of course does not count the additional 7% soon to be 9% state and local income taxes I will have to pay as a New Yorker.
It is estimated that next year a New Yorker earning $200k per year will wind up having to pay out more than 50% of this income in order to satisfy one tax or another (leaving net income of $100k after taxes). On the other hand, a New Yorker earning $100k next year will wind up having to pay about 28% of this income to satisfy taxes (leaving net income of $72k after taxes). But an expatriate New Yorker earning $100k a year has NO tax obligations in Costa Rica (leaving the same $100k net income after taxes as if they had stayed in America and earned twice as much). Now throw in the cost of living differential ...
Since this is the Members Area, I will make the following comment. There are a whole lot of dancers out there for whom federal and state income tax compliance has been considered 'optional' in the past. This fact puts a whole lot of dancers in the same position as 'low income' Americans when it comes to voting for candidates that espouse policies of increasing taxes on the 'rich' and increasing benefits to the 'poor' ... i.e. these policies sound wonderful if you aren't personally impacted by having more of your hard earned money confiscated by the gov't to pay for those increased benefits. However, another fact you can count on is that with the US federal budget coming under incredible pressure, income tax compliance is not going to remain 'optional' !!!

I'm pretty sure it won't be a mass exodus so the 23 people that want to leave the US for a third world country because they are greedy and don't want to have to pay 3% more in taxes
The 3% tax increase is a joke. Obama has called for a long term capital gains tax increase from 15% to anywhere between 20% and 33%. Obama has called for allowing the Bush income tax cuts to expire, which will result in a tax increase on a $100k income from 21% to 28%. Obama has also called for direct and indirect increases in business taxes, from a carbon tax to a health care tax to an increase in corporate income tax rates ... all of which will provide the equivalent of a de-facto 'sales tax' increase on every single item sold by US businesses to US consumers (via businesses having to charge higher prices across the board to cover the cost of these taxes).
Beyond that, Obama has proposed new social program spending with a cost in excess of $800 billion per year. Even if other gov't spending is cut i.e. the $150 billion per year being spent on the middle east conflict, there will still be a huge increase in gov't spending. With last year's total income tax receipts coming in at $1.3 trillion, even a $500 billion increase in gov't spending would require a 1.8/1.3 - 1 = 38% increase in income tax revenues across the board to cover the additional social program spending.
And with that tax increased skewed towards those earning more than $200k per year, I can guarantee you that a whole lot of 'rich' Americans will either be moving their money or moving themselves beyond the reach of the IRS ! One thing that you will see is that 'very rich' Americans will become expats to 'very desireable' tax havens i.e. Monaco, Dubai etc. It's only the 'middle class' expatriates that have to settle for Costa Rica, Belize etc. Another thing that you will see for 'very rich' Americans that don't choose to leave the country will be a shift in assets out of stocks / bonds / general business investments which are exposed to high tax rates, with those assets shifting into such things as solar energy / ethanol partnerships, offshore hedge funds, tax free municipal bonds etc. that have tax favored status. This in turn will result in the US gov't actually collecting far less tax revenues from the 'very rich' than Obama's plan anticipates. It will then fall to the 'middle class', i.e. those who cannot afford to shield their earnings, to pick up the tab !!!

"I'm going to Costa Rica" is the new "I'm going to Canada". No one is going any damn where so sit the hell down and suck it up people. We did it for 8 years, so can you.
You did it for 8 years...
I lived under Regan, Bush Sr., Clinton, then Bush Jr., now Obama.
So what?
Some are leaving for their own reasons.
So telling anyone to "suck it up" makes you sound like you have a soap box.
I don't get it. A small tax hike is enough to make you pack up and leave the country, but eight years of Bush wasn't?
Obama is going to take more than Bush did, as far as property is conserned.
Obama gave an example saying something to the effect that
if you dont use your property for the needy, it will be taken.
(Currently looking for evidence)
we will see.... i can't speak for the rich or greedy.... but if obama keeps his word...i look forward to my college fund being increased...and gettin my refund check in the mail! :D
If Obama keeps his word, our economy is going to get worse.
The rich arent going to pay more in taxes.
We're always being told "the rich are going to pay more", and it never happens.
That said, with 95% of American taxes being cut, and no viable income replacement, added to universal healthcare, & nearly free education...
I can't see how we're going to get the money.
Also just heard the US is going to have to borrow $550 Billion selling bonds.
We cant afford Obama's plans any more than McCain's.
***
Having said this, I still think we'll end up ok after Obama's term.
I had planned to vote for him until I heard who his vp pick was.
That's too much democrat for me, being a fan of actuall ballance.
I am just gonna stay away from this one. Cheers.I wish I could, but the voices tell me to post.

If Obama reforms healthcare, it'll just be awful, cost a lot of money, and hurt our economy badly.
If he pulls out of Iraq, that will safe money. But not if he just moves it all over to Afghanistan where we basically get to start from scratch.

I don't think that's racism, and I'm hardly like "LOL @ U, WHITEY. WHEREZ UR PREZ?!?!?!?!?!" but if being proud that we made it this far despite of and IN spite of the obstacles set before us is bitter, then I'm one bitter bitch.

ok so for the record , i emphasized the diversity of my family because America is going to see what i see , something DIVERSE i am used to this and for me it felt good , and hopefully one day maybe , just maybe there will be a lot less stupid fucking people who won't say things like i only voted because he was black and this is a long shot but who knows i could've voted for him because it is my right to do so and i thought (all by myself , go figure, huh? ) that he was the better canidate the reasons are not you or anyone else's buisness just like i would never take it upon myself to ridicule anyone for their choice . i dont care about race, he could be purple for all i care. you all arent making any sense. i posted this before, you stated that you were happy because he is a BLACK man, not because he supports your views on how this country should work. and why is it ms mia roberts that you followed so well on this election and not the last? im not implying anything just asking questions. im so sick of the race issue. have you seen the percentage numbers of new registered voters for this election. and its not because of they werent of legal age to vote before this election. that is ignorance.
because first off, this was the first elecction i voted in...you ignorant ass mofo
second, i do care about his policies and had he had been like mccain and not like obama...i would NOT have voted for him... but i would have been happy he was elected all the same....he would have boke history either way
third, i followed the last campaign and was not impressed with EITHER CANDIDATE... but had i been able to vote, i would have voted against bush...and i would have voted...period....i saw something in barack obama i liked when i heard him debate against hillary in the primary....

all you can do is ask that question.. you can emphasize race in your reason as to why you were happy but when it come to actually explaining why you voted for him your response is "that he was the better canidate the reasons are not you or anyone else's buisness "

Again - and please answer this time -
Why is being happy that racial relations in America has gotten far enough along to vote a black man into the highest office in the land bad?
Why is it bad that he stirred millions of new people to care enough to register and vote bad?
And for the record, I voted in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008. What does that prove (or disprove) in your mind?
I'm seeing some true colors from a lot of people now. Damn there are some fucked up ass people on Stripperweb. That makes me sad because I really want this country to be completely past this kind of bullshit. But on the other hand I'm kind of glad that I can see how people really feel and I can treat them accordingly.

you want to debate reasons??? i will tell you every policy of his i agree on, and had a white man had the same ideals (or hillary had she won the primary)...i would have voted for him. I never said i wouldn't tell you the reasons...stop putting words in my mouth to make yourself look less ignorant. Ask me about his policies...i dare you..
