1. its awesome that we have a new president to try and clean up bush's mess. but because he is black that doesnt mean anything to me. i dont agree with alot of his views so i voted mccain.
2. its awesome to stir up new voters but when there is a obama bus going around picking up homeless people on the side of the road and feeding, clothing them, then taking them to register to vote i think that crosses the line. thats not inspiring new voters, its bribery
3. congrats on being a responsible voter, but not everyone is. almost every single person ive spoke with that voted for obama could not think of any of his policies they agreed with. they were just like duuuhhhhh. not everyone is that irresponsible but after i called thelovelylenee out she responsed that its her business and no one elses as to why she voted for obama.....

I'm seeing some true colors from a lot of people now. Damn there are some fucked up ass people on Stripperweb. That makes me sad because I really want this country to be completely past this kind of bullshit. But on the other hand I'm kind of glad that I can see how people really feel and I can treat them accordingly.
Seriously. I feel so spoken down to in some of these threads, so dismissed. I'm so over SW, I think. Its real talk from now on, and if I get banned, then so be it.

It IS her business! She has NOTHING to explain to ANY of us! She doesn't know us, and we don't know her! If you want to be an ASSHOLE and assume that because she's black, she voted black, then so be it -- sucks for you, sucks for people who know you, sucks for people you encounter in the street, sucks for StripperWeb. Sucks. But she owes you no explanation.

...because you made an ignorant assumption. How was her voting ignorant? If it was, then maybe she might want to explain something. You have issues. Sorry for your luck. Conversation OVER.

Those Bush initiated tax reductions were a BRIBE to keep us citizens happy with him, regardless of what his arrogant policies he foisted on us and the world. So now we are unhappy with him, but we want the tax reduction to remain in effect. This is so cynical. Remember what taxes were for a generation before this, long term capital gains taxes was 50%, interest and dividends wer taxes at the normal rate, inheritance taxes on net assets over a half million, and even then the progressive tax rate scale was MUCH less than it had been in the 60s, 70s, and most of the 80s. It has ALWAYS been higher than it is now. And what it might be after Obama will still be much lower than it was before. Give people an inch and they want a mile. Wow!!!
First, I found serious flaws in each of the 4 candidates as nominated. But that's our system now.
I didn't support Obama because of anyone's race, but instead because I liked the majority of his policies better than those of McCain. I think both are honorable men and would have carried the US well into foreign affairs, though differently. Likely I would have voted for McCain if a few of his precepts had been better thought out and he hadn't capitulated to traditionally very conservative Republicans and hadn't made such a bad choice of running mates. Seriously.
Though I am happy with the results, I have a very guarded happiness, combined with watchfulness for the next several months while he is putting together his administration.
I hereby reserve the right to criticize him later.

I didn't want either one of them, he put hope into people's heads, and those people's hopes are what they put into him. He's an ex-attorney and he fed you BS, you will see at the end of his term he's not going to give us affordable healthcare, none of the good stuff he sweet talked the nation with, just tax increases, and race issues. We need a new party in office to change things imo, whatever color they are, if they have f-ing moose antlers who cares. Some don't trust republicans, because of bush those are the ones that haven't done their research... And.... no not every muslim is a terrorist, but when you lie about being muslim, your HIDING something, and that is something to worry about!!
He's not a goddamn Muslim!!! FUCK. You don't sit in a black Christian church for 25 years as a motherfucking Muslim!
I'm SO sick of hearing this bullshit! His father was from Kenya. Was his father a Muslim? Maybe. Does it matter? FUCK NO! Religion should be personal anyway.
ooh, I have SO many opinions here it isnt even funny.
First of all, race was a huge issue with Obama. Like it or not. No I am not saying that race is the ONLY reason he won. A good portion of the reason he won is because we have had a repub admin for 8 years and things have not turned out well, so americans are hopping a dem admin will turn out better. But believe it, LOTS of people voted for a man because of race. I do believe more peopel voted for a black man than voted against a black man.
Yes, it is a historical moment. But black americans shoudl not have had the thinking that because they were black they could not be pres. How many black people have honest ran for pres? Not very many! So to say that because others didnt get elected because they were black is not accurate. It was rather a lack of running for pres is the real reason we have not had a diff black pres in the past.
Religion DOES matter! Lying about religion matters even more. Religion comes down to a persons core beliefs and for instance, there is a reason that not many satin worshipers are political figures: it goes to there core beliefs.
Next, Obama is NOT going to save money by pulling out of Iraq. In fact the troops that have a large portion of their tour still remaining are just going to be mobilized to Afghanistan, they will not be comming home. So 2nd brigade, 4th infantry division that just recently deployed to Iraq are not going to return home when we pull out of Iraq. They will serve the remainder of their 15 month tour in Afghanistan. It will cost more money to put them in Afghanistan then to keep them in Iraq because FOB's (forward operating bases, the bases troops stay in while in war) are already built in Iraq. We will have to build new ones when we go to Afghanistan and the cost of tearing down the ones in Iraq. It will be EXPENSIVE!
Taxes are going to go up, A LOT. Face it.
As far as lower income peopel getting a bigger rebate check. yeah that all sounds well and good if you are the one getting the check. But who are you getting it from? Not the government. You are getting it from peopel that have worked hard to earn that money and are being forced to give it to you. So for an example, I know all peopel dont fit this, the family that have sacrificed everything and has overcome and succedded and now do very well for themselves are going to be forced to give part of their hard earned money to poeple that wont work, are on welfare by choice, crackheads .. you get the point. Lots of people that have NOT worked hard are going to reap the benifits of those who have and that is bullshit!
Because you are a stirpper does not in anyway show what kind of political ideas you have. In general, Repubs are for a smaller government and Dems are for a larger government. Dems spend more moeny, repubs spend less. Dems are more likely to be for social issues such as gay marraige, abortion, and other social issues whereas repubs are generally against the social issues.
I am a republican.
I am against, STRONGLY, the re-distribution of wealth. I have worked my ass off for what I have and I dont like the idea of being forced to give it to people that have not necessarily worked as hard. If I CHOOSE to give my money to less fortunate that is all well and good, but I shouldnt be forced to do so.
All candidates make a bucnh of promises and have all these ideas, but few follow through with those ideas. Most liekly Obama will greatly increase taxes, increase regulation of .. everything, he wont fix the healthcare system, he wont fix the education system, and although he (so would every other person) pull troops out of Iraq, he will NOT bring troops home in the next four years. Mark my words, we will still be in the middle east fighting a war during the next election.
The economy crisis was not Bushes fault. Please stop blamming Bush. This has been a ticking time bomb since the 70s when Freddie Mac was created to help avoid Fannie Mae from having this problem. it just happened to erupt while Bush was in office.

Just FYI, most of the subprime loans made were by private institutions.
No, it certainly isn't all Bush's fault. It's everyone's fault for getting too damn greedy and credit-happy.

He's not a goddamn Muslim!!! FUCK. You don't sit in a black Christian church for 25 years as a motherfucking Muslim!
Ahh, but that's all part of the ingenious conspiracy :detective . He never actually attended the services; he was secretly worshiping in the local mosque instead. That's the real reason he never heard any of Rev. Wright's anti-American rants, but he couldn''t say that without letting everyone know he was a secret Muslim terrorist mole...;D

Right, they were made by private institutions, but Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac BUY those loans so that bank can make another loan. If they had refused to purchase those bad loans, banks would not have made them or at least not have made so many. but yes everyone who bought something they couldnt afford is at fault. i am happy to announce that I am affording everything I own just fine. ;D

jesse jackson and al sharpton... both ran for president...barely got through the DOOR...and blacks have been running for higher positions (not just presidency) for years and there are barely blacks holding high office positions. If we can barely get governor positions... what makes you think that there would have been many available black candidate that actually had a chance...
Religion DOES matter! Lying about religion matters even more. Religion comes down to a persons core beliefs and for instance, there is a reason that not many satin worshipers are political figures: it goes to there core beliefs.
first of all...obama did not LIE about his religion. he is christian. his father was a muslim. SOOOOO FUCKIN WHAT. Religion matters no more than race does. period. You can be a christian and have different beliefs and values then other christians right? so muslims can't? because my family were muslims and i have a muslim first name... i cant run for president now? that would be on of the most ignorant statements i have ever heard in my life

how fuckin dare you?!?!?!? are you saying people with dead end lower class jobs don't work fuckin hard???? they don't deserve rebates?? not everyone on welfare are crack heads or lazy people...thats a fuckin bull shit myth and coming from seeing people who need that money to pay hospital bills and feed thier family while watchin other people making over 200,000 are buyin bmw's for the whole family a bitching about givin back tho thier community "our family buys cars like other families buy shoes"....you know what i say to that....greed is a deadly sin....

because you wrote within my quotes .. this will be more difficult ...
"I refuse to talk about this again" ... of course you do because you would hate to think that maybe there is a point there. Nobody is saying that Obama does not have a political brain. He has great dem ideas. But being black did help him .. a lot.
jesse jackson and al sharpton... both ran for president...barely got through the DOOR...and blacks have been running for higher positions (not just presidency) for years and there are barely blacks holding high office positions. Jessie Jackson adn Al Sharpton are about as far exremists as you can get. There has never been anyone so far extreme either direction get elected .. anywhere that I know of.
first of all...obama did not LIE about his religion. he is christian. his father was a muslim. SOOOOO FUCKIN WHAT. Religion matters no more than race does. period. Yes, he did. He went to a muslim school and practiced Muslim before he practiced being a Christian, he admits to this but says he is NOW a Christian and has been for a long time. Once again, it goes to core beliefs. I personally do not think there is anything wrong with being Muslim, but others may not agree. The country is primarily Christian and therefore more likly to accept a Christian pres because it is more in line with THEIR personal beliefs. It most definitly matters.
I never did and never would say that a Muslim could not run for prez, that is ABSURD !!!!!!! But is would play a role because it goes to your core belif system. Just as pro or con abortion is a core belief system and plays a major role.
we will see
Ok, we will see, but I assure you that will happen. i will be sure to quote you on this issue if 4 years. I will look it up. Infact, I might even make it a fav so I dont forget to bring it up.
how fuckin dare you?!?!?!? are you saying people with dead end lower class jobs don't work fuckin hard???? they don't deserve rebates?? not everyone on welfare are crack heads or lazy people...thats a fuckin bull shit myth and coming from seeing people who need that money to pay hospital bills and feed thier family while watchin other people making over 200,000 are buyin bmw's for the whole family a bitching about givin back tho thier community "our family buys cars like other families buy shoes"....you know what i say to that....greed is a deadly sin....
ok, lets try to be adults here I specifically said that as an example. I also said that I know it does not fit for everyone, but it DOES fit for some peopel. I grew up in a very poor house. My parent worked hard but we still did not have much. I have been more fortunate. And yes, they can get all the rebates they want, but I should not be FORCED to give them my money if I dont want to. Its my money that I worked for that I sould be able to give to charity if I so desire or re0invest ... its my money I should not HAVE to give it to less fortunate. If someone makes 200 grand a year and is forced to give it to other people they have EVERy right to bitch. Its THEIR money. You wouldnt want someone REQUIRING you to give a dollar to every person you see that makes less money than you do.
so you don't mind your money being TAKEN from you to build communities, and put into bettering the economy and america.... you just don't want him to give it to other people
Yes I do mind my money being taken from me for ANY reason. Its MY money. If I WANT to give it to less fortunate, I can. If I WANT to help rebuild a community, I can, If not, then I should not have to. What in the hell gave youthe idea that I dont mind it being taken to build communities, only if it is given to other peopel?!?!?!?!

Believe it or not the prez does not have all supreme power. The congress .. oh yes, the DEM congress put a lOT of money and contributed to the war. In fact the CONGRESS voted for the war to begin with.
Your right, we shouldnt have gone to war. We should have ignored 9-11 and just left it all alone and hopped it didnt happen again. That would have been much better then going to war.

WOW, this thread got very heated very quickly, didn't it?
Personally, I felt this immense pride to be an American for the first time in my life. I finally understand what people mean when they say they love their country and want to serve it; Obama becoming President inspired me in ways I didn't know I was lacking in to begin with. I spoke with a close friend in Europe today to tell her about Obama winning, thinking she wouldn't care much who I was talking about or even be familiar with his name. WRONG. She said the entire country is talking about it and is so happy - that they feel respect and admiration for Americans again for the first time in years.
Watching his speech made me tear up. I only wish I could have seen it in person :) We are very lucky to have witnessed such a historic event in history.

Jessie Jackson adn Al Sharpton are about as far exremists as you can get. There has never been anyone so far extreme either direction get elected .. anywhere that I know of.
al sharpton is not a far extremist and is not as disrespected within the black community as white people may think he is. and regardless of what thier views are...if being black helped obama "a lot" it should have helped jesse jackson and al sharpton atleast get farther then they did. period.

you obviously don't know what america is supposed to stand for then... and had you said this was a christian nation in person to me... i would have punched u in the face....thank god this is online... i'm so incredibly tired of people like you. no wonder you are upset obama won. i went to a muslim school too......pre-fuckin school. so i can't be president now because the country will only vote for a christian???? you sound like the people who told blacks that you can't be president because the majority of america is white and they aren't gonna vote for someone not like them.... its fuckin ignorance man.... i'm so glad obama smashed that one...
like i said, christianity and islam are broader then that. period. and if you studied religion you would know that they both aren't that far off from eachother. christianity, islam and judaism are more the same than different. and being a muslim can be different to who ever is following the religion. They can have beliefs that the country agrees on and still go to the masjit and worship god.
if i hear another ignorant comment like that..... i swear, i'm gonna go crazy....

But i do agree, we shouldn't have started this war in the first place

But I didnt say that America would NOT vote for a different religion because everyone else is Christian. I didnt say that. It is about CORE BELIEFS. If YOUR core beliefs differ than MY core beliefs, I would DISAGREE with you and be LESS LIEKLY to VOTE for you.
like i said, christianity and islam are broader then that. period. and if you studied religion you would know that they both aren't that far off from eachother. christianity, islam and judaism are more the same than different. and being a muslim can be different to who ever is following the religion. They can have beliefs that the country agrees on and still go to the masjit and worship god.
if i hear another ignorant comment like that..... i swear, i'm gonna go crazy....
I never said anything about the differences between the religions or the similarities for that matter. that is a moot point my dear. Perception is EVERYTHING.
okay. i didn't say you were wrong or right. i don't know whats gonna happen under the obama administration, all i can do is hope promises are kept and he deals with the country as best as he can....
Well, I hope he comes through on SOME of his promisis. Other I hope he doesnt since I dont agree with them. lol:)
well thats not socialism...your gonna have to suck it up and deal with it... this is the way our government works.....
I never said anything about socialism. But now that YOU bring it up. ...

Actually that is the DEFINITION of socialism on a very small scale. Taking from the rich and giving it to the poor.
That is NOT the way the GOV has EVER worked in the past. This will be a first for America. I can only hope that congres does not let this go through.
we all know the president has veto power... and we all kno the bush administration was leading the war.... the congress didn't lock bush in a choke hold and say "bitch, WE'RE GOIN TO WAR!!!!"....
But i do agree, we shouldn't have started this war in the first place
I was being facitious. I agree with us going to war. I dont necessarly agree with all the things that went on war related, but I 100% agree that we should have retaliated and killed the fuckers who bombed us and so did just about everyone else in America when this shit first happened.
Right VETO power ... not the power to say .. Im gonna do this and I dont care what Congress thinks ... he cant do that. So what he DIDNT do was he DIDNT stop congress and the senate, rather he encouraged them to fund the war which was the right thing to do.

Do they also have state & local taxes in Australia ? If I lived in Sydney, would i also pay New South Wales taxes and Sydney taxes or just Australian taxes ?
There is only one income tax, the federal one. There are other taxes (on cigarettes, alcohol, gambling and a 10% GST on most consumer goods), but most of them are federal. States get money via federal grants mostly.
Home owners must also pay annual rates to the local council (eg the City of Melbourne) but renters don't.

Not sure what you meant by this. We've had a progressive tax system for a while now (more you make the higher % you pay), we still do. The thing Obama is doing is putting the top tier (over $250,000) up from 36% to 39%. It was exactly at that rate all during Clinton. It's not a calamity and most of the people I hear complaining about it don't fall into that category anyway. He's also mentioned putting capital gain tax back to 20% once again where it was under Clinton.
It's only 3% and most of the money that will go to the lower and middle class will wind up right back with the rich because the lower and middle class pretty much spend whatever they have and that....stimulates the economy and they usually buy from the people that will be paying the 3% extra tax. Anyone who thinks any of this is even closely related to socialism is infected with a propaganda flu from Fox news. Just stay off Fox and talk radio for a few weeks and you'll be fine.

If Obama reforms healthcare, it'll just be awful, cost a lot of money, and hurt our economy badly.
If he pulls out of Iraq, that will safe money. But not if he just moves it all over to Afghanistan where we basically get to start from scratch.
I think it will do a lot of good for a lot of people, but I also think he should focus on the economy before implementing reforms when there is a very large budget deficit.
I agree that he should leave Afghanistan alone. This is not the time for America to be involved in costly foreign wars.

Right, they were made by private institutions, but Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac BUY those loans so that bank can make another loan. If they had refused to purchase those bad loans, banks would not have made them or at least not have made so many. but yes everyone who bought something they couldnt afford is at fault. i am happy to announce that I am affording everything I own just fine. ;D
But didn't Bush's system of deregulation encourage the making of those sub-prime loans, as well? Not to mention the giant gaping deficit he created.

Your right, we shouldnt have gone to war. We should have ignored 9-11 and just left it all alone and hopped it didnt happen again. That would have been much better then going to war.
Seeing as Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, that does sound like the better option.

Didnt read any of this but my reaction was BOOOO!!! But that's because I hate the two party system lol.. I voted Libertarian, and my vote was considered "Other", probably not even counted :( I knew there was no hope for candidate tho.. It's sad that two groups of people run this country and those of us who have our own ideas and like/dislike different things about both Dems and Repubs are throw to the wolves and told we can't make up our minds :( Thank God for BEER!!!

That's my point. I pay Federal Income Tax (at close to the top rate) PLUS State Income Tax; Local ( NYC ) Income Tax; NYC Corporation Tax (12.5% on my business ) plus NYC property taxes, sales taxes, gasoline taxes, utility taxes ( gas, electric, telephone, cable ), alcohol taxes, cigarette taxes plus a laundry list of miscellaneous fees ( dog license; tire disposal; oil disposal etc.) Btw, that 12.5% City Corporation tax
is on gross profits i.e. NO Credits or Deductions.
When you add it ALL up, I pay almost 50% of EVERY dollar I make in Income and Business taxes alone. Still think Americans are under-taxed ?

I applaud Mia Roberts for her responses to the Obama critics in this post. No one is denying that race played a part in Obama getting voted but the critics are trying to say it is the ONLY reason he won the election. Mia said a few times if that was the case then Jesse Jackson would've gotten farther than he did (Sharpton was a joke and treated accordingly). Most Americans don't have the patience to watch/read all those debates to see how each candidate feels on each and every topic., if the people in this thread with all this knowledge of policies asked random supporter of McCain or Obama they wouldn't know. In a time when our country is more messed up then most people ever remember it being when Obama came on the scene and made his whole campaign about a "CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN" people of all races quickly took notice and the way he ran that campaign of change is what put him in the white house

To respond specifically to the "people voted for him because he was black" thing of course they did BUT don't get it twisted and think that anyone voted for him ONLY because he was black. When Obama first started campaigning he had a small following but most people were thinking a black man trying to run for the presidency again is he crazy and laughed it off but once they heard his strong voice saying keywords like CHANGE while they were complaining about how bad a situation the US is in currently they started to take notice. When he actually won a state that people know as a "white state" then more people took notice and with each win and each speech more and more people took notice to the fact that a black man could actually have a chance. America has never had anything other than a white man in its highest office so when some people saw that a black man that people were believing that could actually do a good job as president had a chance they saw it as something that could be a historic moment and they wanted to be a part of it. This led people that had never voted or even thought about voting to start getting involved in the political process be it doing voter registration or simply just paying some attention to the candidates in the news media, I can guarantee no one registered to vote and then said i'm not gonna follow anything else about the election just gonna forget about it until the 4th. In conclusion anyone that is saying race played a part in Obama getting elected is true BUT if you wanna say thats the only reason then you are lying to yourself

The Federal Income Tax rates seem low to me, I'm not sure what the state tax rates are, so can't comment on those. As for those other taxes you mentioned, they're mostly pretty standard everywhere.
I didn't say Americans were under-taxed; I don't feel equipped to make that kind of bald-faced assessment. I just said your tax rates seemed comparatively low to me.

I really dont want to debate the validity of the war. That is such a controversial issue. But the war was supposed to be against Al Quidea. There were plenty Al Quidea in Iraq, and in my opinion that was enough reason to go into Iraq, not to mention Hussein, which a lot of people tend to forget Bush took out of power. he was an evil man and contirbuted to providing a safe-haven for terrorists. The troops in Iraq have never been fighting AGAINST Iraqis. They have been doing the oppisite. Helping train them so they had a police and military sufficient to defend themselves. On top of that, the trrops built a ton of schools, swimming pools, stores, and other things to HELP the Iraqi people.
But let there be no doubt there are still terrorists in Iraq, hence the reason the most dangerous road in the world goes right through Iraq. Why is it dangerous .. because of IED's.

i did not bring up the socialism thing ....
Ok, I didnt explain myself very well. Your right, we have pretty much always had welfare. But we didnt used to mandate giving it to people who dont need it, like me. I dont need welfare. No I dont make a crap load of money. But I do just fine and I dont need the money that the gov STEALS from more fortunate people. IF things get worse for me, I will find a way to make it. I always have in the past and I am sure I will continue to be able to.
As far as it going back to the business owners. Yeah, it will probalby make its way back to those pockets. But once again, why should they have to give it to you in the first place. So basically your just barrowing money from them so you can buy their goods/services ... It just does not seem right to me.
