Okay, let me tell you about myself: I'm half black American. My dad biracial -- half black Nigerian, half white Scottish. So I'm jealous of...what now? Am I jealous of not being white? The truth come out! You're a sad, sad person, if you really think this/

If anything, people should be jealous of who I am, what I've seen, what I can claim to be, where I've been in my life.

Right. I don't see me whining in threads about making no money, discrimination wah wah.

I've never in my life said anythign bad about anyone's race, but I'm finally realizing how we're conditioned to be so PC, all the time when people even want to deny us the right to say we're proud of our race. That we're actually a pretty awesome race. Not that your isn't any less awesome AT ALL, but why can't I say it?

And I honestly feel so sorry for you. You're such a stereotype. Not doing your people any favors.

Then you are denying your own people sold you off??

we were sold off...and we were also stolen.... don't give me that bullshit about "it was just the africans that sold the africans"...

yes, some of us were traded... but alot of the slaves were also stolen... it was cheaper to just threaten and take certain tribes then to trade with or pay the africans...

strange white men with guns vs. africans with spears.... hmmmmmmmmmm... oh yea, the white men would have died in droves... lol

now, slaves shipped to america was not the first time whites had raped cultures in africa. One incident specifically resulted in the genocide of rwanda many years later. Now, if news is spreading that whites are raping and stealing other cultures in different parts of africa, the africans were bound to get frightened and those of higher status were gonna think of ways to save themselves.... therfore making deals

i don't think you know our history....beyond what your hs (or college) text books told you...

I'm sorry you feel that way. What's hilarious is that black people don't think I'm black enough, and you, probably thinking that we're all the same, anyway, think I'm a stereotype.

Right. I don't see me whining in threads about making no money, discrimination wah wah.

That we're actually a pretty awesome race. Not that your isn't any less awesome AT ALL, but why can't I say it?

Here we go...again, spouting off about something you know NOTHING about. I don't know why I have to say this again here, but I'm a top earner, so your point = lame. Also, is how much money you make stripping the only factor that makes someone valid in your eyes? Is it your life? Certainly not seeing the world, or anything more meaningful, no, no, no...

And you can be fucking proud of your heritage, go right ahead! My God.

Edit: As I'm reading this thread and others, I realize that you have very few valid points. Its about fitting in as many personal jabs as you can -- that's all that most of your 'arguments' are. This isn't going to progress, you're not going to try to see my way, and your way scares the piss out of me. I mean, seriously, I am farthest from agreeing with Narcissus, but at least he's somewhat respectful in his postings, thus I can tolerate conversation with him.

Realizing that this will be going nowhere, and you're just gonna piss me off, you're going on ignore -- don't even bother responding to me anymore.

Viola, fuck off. I am not militant. I am beyond frustrated. People saying this election was only based on race and how disappointing that is and NOBODY thinks it's strange that every president has been white and male, as if those elections weren't based on race. When the race in question is normative and the majority, we think race doesn't exist. When people of color vote for another person of color, we start claiming that people only voted based on race- as if this isn't always a factor for everyone. This election is the turning point. But the fact is that every president has been white and male until now and THAT is not a coincidence.

Americans aren't afraid of people of color? Black men are portrayed as criminals, public enemy number one. We offer no cultural space where black men can express their fear of white cops, white people, etc- but everywhere you look you have black men being portrayed as inherently criminal. That's fear based cultural productions.

Latino immigrants are portrayed as dirty leeches. Arab Americans are feared as terrorists. Asians are "Other"'ed as smart, passive, and alien.

I am getting frustrated in this thread because white people are pretending that this isn't real or significant, which means you are just trying to silence the reality and experience of a lot of people who need to be heard. It pisses me off greatly. Just like it pisses me off when guys tell me sexism isn't real or stripper-hatred isn't real, that sex workers aren't stigmatized.

A movie on tv right now- there is a dead, murdered hooker and a criminal black male. Look around you and imagine living with these stereotypes.

I just want people to admit it's real and it matters and to be sad and angry.

I am glad this election was "based on race." because lots of things are and finally people have to see it and talk about it. When white people say "we don't see race," it only means, "we dont experience or pay attention to racism because it doesnt happen to us and so it can't be real because only what happens to us is important."

Hey there .... whooooa. Let me get this straight ... 'Americans' are afraid of 'color' because of a false cultural image of the 'black man'?

Could you define 'americans' and could you please explain how and why, we of the evil 'whiteys', have created this stigmata?

You are making excuses for your race, because hate is easier to deal with than guilt.

You mentioned the 'stereotyped' black man accused of murdering a hooker. :gasp: The audacity and temerity involved must have sent you reeling. You poor dear. Wait ... why don't I get offended when white people are stereotyped (as seen in above quote and posts)? Oh wait ... we sometimes do!

Stereotyping happens to everyone. Get the hell over it. I must say that I've never heard a black person bitch about the stereotype that black men have big dicks ... or can dance great ... or are great at sports etc ... (p.s. white men can't jump ... seriously ... we can't)

If you look at stereotyping, you have to admit that you often see a 'trend'. Whoa ... did Narcissus just say that all black men are criminals?!?

Nope ... I just said that 50% of our prisoners are black men ... yet the black Americans consist of around 10% of the entire population. Oh crap, Narcissus is pulling out that evil white hate machine: statistics!!!!

Black people, white people ... hell, any people are the same. It is what we choose to make of our situations, as individuals, that define us as a race. Blame who is at fault and not me (the average white guy). I didn't do shit to you or your race ... except watch you get showered with 'hand outs/hand ups' that are not available to me.

Bleh ...

i realize this was a "joke" however where have you heard a black man say that?

Are you reading the same forum I am?

My parents beat me as a child whenever I would do something wrong. I guess they weren't able to get 'higher education' to learn about aggression in children. Hahahaha! Sorry, that is a joke about a different post earlier ...

Should I tell you about the grand functions we attended that were white only? How about the taste of the silver spoon they placed in my mouth as a babe? Or do you want the truth? Seriously, what can I do to add to your fuel that I'm just a misguided, ignorant white boy?

Should I tell you that they stayed together (and still are) because of strong religious beliefs?

That they were both blue collar workers the vast majority of their lives?

That they worked two jobs each for several years to get us out of the slums?

That my father put my mother through college so that she could become a nurse?

That my parents still live in a trailer and that my mom still works (well past retirement age - my father can't as he is now nearly an invalid)?

The fact that my father has an 8th grade education because his family (mississippi) needed him to work rather than attend school?

The fact that my mother's parents seperated before she could remember her father and that my grandmother raised eight children?

What exactly would you care to know? The fact that they are both white?

You know what? These threads have been following a pattern.

Black person mentions positive/moderate aspect of race issue, white person counters and bitches about voting Obama in by race, etc. Then black person gets justifiably annoyed. Then white person lashes back about "entitlement." Black people and white people step in to clarify and moderate. "Reverse racism" white person gets mad, attracts more. Black people and other whites get mad at the fact that an otherwise neutral discussion has gotten ugly.

Chill the fuck out EVERYONE. If you are not black, you don't know what it's like. I feel like I (and others) have only been stating the obvious but I guess some people refuse to concede any part of the issue.

Obviously this isn't working so let's all stick to the issues we can discuss rationally. If that's even possible for some of you people...

Well, men don't know "what it's like" to be a woman, a doctor doesn't know "what it's like" to be a garbageman, etc. But being black and holding the fact that whites don't know "what it's like" to have your life against them is a kind of discrimination. You are automatically assuming this person has it better than you and has never had it hard it in their life.

Everyone, I mean everyone, is living an epic struggle just by living their life.

This thread is unbelievable. Every time people of color try to have a discussion about racism, a mob of white people come in and yell at them to shut up, tell them they are feeling sorry for themselves, tell them they are crazy. It's like where is the wisdom to maybe listen and hear and wonder- what do they know that I don't know? What do they feel that I don't feel? What do they experience that I am protected from? I have always been so curious about these things without any fear of listening and admitting truth.

Someone mentioned the number of black people in prison. This reveals your racism completely. Instead of looking critically at a social system that is twenty times more likely to convict a person of color over a white person, a poor person over a rich person, etc and instead of looking critically at a social system that puts people into such hopeless situations of poverty that crime is a natural consequence of this stress and lack of choices- instead of thinking in that logic, you are instead trying to convince us (without saying it) that black people are somehow more biologically inclined to crime. That is what you are saying without saying it.

I also grew up poor and white and lots of people I love and care about are in prison, dead, hopeless. People who's parents and grandparents worked their bodies into early death in coal mines and who's children are still suffering from the legacies of alcoholism and trauma and violence. This experience helped me to understand the way poverty and lack of access/choices can define people's experiences. Upper middle class people have monopolized the cultural conversations for way too long now and I am always happy to hear people with different experiences articulating their anger or their creative survival or their hope- whether they are people of color or poor white people. I have a great respect for DIFFERENCE and it doesn't threaten me.

Anyway, MIA- instead of wasting your precious time arguing with these people, check out some of these links to help make you feel less crazy tonight. I just can't bear another minute of this thread full of blatant racism being worded as something else. The double speak is crossing my eyes.

i'm sorry but no one even dropped the "I HAD IT WORSE" argument. People are saying "I HAD IT DIFFERENT" and we need to begin to approach this understanding and sharing and as soon as people mentioned race, people started jumping down their throats.

This thread was about the president and since he is our first black president, race is an issue and people wanted to discuss it. then people came on and started trying to silence people. no one in here is denying your experience of whatever you have struggled through but lots of people are trying to deny the people of color in this thread.

suffering is not equal. there is an intersection of race, gender, class always at work defining a person's experience. It is complex. It needs to be discussed. People need to understand each other. A few days ago I went into the hospital with a slight fever and I was ushered in with smiles and kindness by white nurses while they left a poor black family in the waiting room even though the woman had just had a surgery a few weeks ago and was sure something had ruptured inside of her and she was in such pain she was sweating and moaning and passing out. Because they were poor and black and talked differently than the nurses, the nurses treated them like shit. I SAW IT AND I KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. The woman's husband spoke up and was angry, as he should have been for the mistreatment. The white nurses told him to calm down or he was going to be removed. They treated him like a piece of shit and looked at each other and rolled their eyes like "stupid n--a is misbehaving," and then tried to usher me right on in because i am well dressed and white. i refused and spoke up without accusations and the woman finally got seen. I know without a shadow of a doubt that she was left in the waiting room because she was black. This is a small example of the shit people of color have to live with and no, we cannot imagine it. To begin to understand it we need to ask questions and LISTEN instead of always trying to silence people.

Fuck all this dumb back and forth shit.

What do you think Obama's immediate reaction was to becoming president? What do you think he's felt like everyday since then waking up in the morning?

I don't think him wining was a surprise to him but I'm sure he probably had a, "Oh Shit" moment when they officially called it for him.

I bet he thinks his winning was a dream for a few seconds every morning and then when he realizes he did in fact win a huge grin spreads across his face. He rolls over and says, "Michelle, it's time for the president's morning blow job." Afterwards, he gets down to president-elect business.

I hope that's what happens.
