I started the dvd, but am concerned about doing strength training with weights every day w/o rest in between. Is it ok because they are light weights, or should I be giving my muscles a break to prevent injury? I have always been told that weight training should have 24 hr recovery periods between sessions. Anyone have any insight on this?

^^ i have always followed the 24hr rule...and 30 day shred is awesome!!!
maybe for the first few days of doing the dvd alternate with even lighter weights or canned goods even (i do this haha)...especially if you haven't been working out lately. if i have just light or minimal soreness i may not take a day off...listen to your body and dont push yourself too hard.

Thank you, alternating light with heavier weights is a great idea! I will try that, I want to keep going!

I just started yesterday. I weigh about 150 pounds and I am 5"7. I could not believe how good I felt the next day! My upper back and arms felt stronger. It really surprised me, and yes, I felt like I was going to vomit my first time because of how out of shape I am. I am sticking with this though, and I am going to do it everyday...so in 30 days I'll do the same as everyone else and post my progress. I hope this works!

I fell off the bandwagon hardcore! I am still at 129 but I need to start this back up. I think valentine's day would be a great day to start back up.

I started today and I must say her telling me to keep going is what I needed. I hate those videos with the trainer with no personalities. I actually did a ful" 20 minute workout. I'm so excited about this, I noticed how much weight I had gained in my face. So, no more games for me.

I THINK ALL exercise videos work if you follow them, but hey, a 2hour trip to the gym and a little research on the web is always cheaper. All i can say is cardio, veggies, fish, grilled chicken breast, a little wieght lifting and more cardio. You gotta wanna do it!

Yes but not everyone has two hours to spare just to work out. This dvd covers it all in 20 minutes a day. Plus you only pay once for the dvd so financially it is cheaper and even easier than going to the gym. Most gyms require some kind of payment every time you go or a monthly plan. I have seen this dvd for as cheap as 8. It is just a better option for most women these days. In these rough economic times it is a beacon of light for those of us wanting to get in shape without paying monthly bills to do so. ;D
This is workout is sooo encouraging! It's awesome to see results after one week! My whole body feels tighter, I'm definitely sticking with this one!

all i know is i tried this exercise for your glutes and i feel like someone put a fork up each cheek lmao literally... You lay on your stomach hanging off your bed, your hips are on the edge, you lift each leg up and down kind of like a mule kick but hanging off your bed. Three sets of 20 reps. I read that doing squats makes your butt look square not round, not sure if that's true, but we shall see if that booty workout does any good.

So true, and it's kinda intense, at least for me, and a lot of fitness experts these days are saying it's better to do high intensity for a short period of time, versus long cardio, since you will still be burning calories after the workout is over with.

So far so good on this shred. I have made it almost a full week doing it everyday without stopping on level 1. It is pretty intense and I am not good with heat. So I warm up quicker than intended lol. But Since I started it I weighed 124 and I am now down to 118. I tried it once without her talking and just the music but it didn't keep me motivated. I just need her talking to keep pushing me along.

Ok, my update. I have been going hard for two weeks, my stomach is drasticqally reduced as well as my booty. Someone at my club asked me if I had butt injections and I just looked at them like they were crazy. My butt is sitting up a lot more. As far as endurance, running up the stairs is no longer a problem. I can't wait to go to level two.

It's awesome to see the results as they're happening to my fellow workout buddies! I finally got my tax return so I immediately hopped over to amazon to get a copy - 8 bucks plus shipping. online shopping is both a curse and a blessing for its convenience. =) Working out with a video has always been the most effective method for exercise for me, cuz it's harder to get bored. My goal is visible results and probly about 10 pounds. I'm right at 130 now, 5'5 and a little soft in the tummy since i quit working out a few months ago. I'm moving to Indiana in a month and I wanna look good enough for all the clubs there to beg me to dance for them lol. Anyway keep up the good work and the updates ladies! I'll let you know what i think when I start!

I auditioned at a club last night and they told me I need to tone up, so I'm officially jumping on the bandwagon: I ordered a copy off of amazon this morning. I'm afraid my arms, which are already cut/well defined and large, will bulk up, so I'm thinking maybe I won't use the weights. IDK, we'll see. So at the moment, I weigh 160.5 and I'm about a size 8 (I'm 5'4). My goal weight has always been 135, but I'm just worried about losing the gut, lifting the butt, shrinking the thighs (I've got runner's legs, which I'm also afraid will bulk up too).
I already do 60min cardio 3-4 times/week. I think I'll up the hour of cardio to daily. Hopefully that, along with a couple more diet changes and the 30-Day shred will get me into that club by next month.

I just did level one for the first time, using cans of soup! Man, even without real weights--that is a great workout!

I had the same concerns, about my arms and shoulders bulking up, and I was told that using no more than 5-10 lb. weights will actually tone down and "cut" your arms.... I've been doing this workout for about three weeks, 5x a week, and it may be one of the best investments I have ever made, especially for lifting and toning your butt!

Wow, after reading a few of the replies on this thread, I'm thinking I wanna get this for when I get the ok from my doc to start working out.
How intense does it start out? I just had a c-section 4 weeks ago, and I'll probably start working out in another 3 weeks or so. So I don't want to kill myself, lol.

you don't have to kill yourself! level 1 IS a good workout, but when it got too intense, I just scaled back my effort a little bit. As with any workout, it's as intense as you make it.
but my butt IS sore today...

Cool! I am just itching to start working out again. I've been walking, but I wanna do more. I just realized today that I have the first 2 levels on my On Demand tv. I'm thinking about watching them and seeing how I can modify it to fit me for a little while, so I can ease into it.
Thanx!

See that's what I'm worried about cuz my arms are already very cut. That's usually the first thing people notice about me. That being said, I'll take the risk for my butt to get lifted and toned. I totally need some lift back there.
I wouldn't say my arms and shoulders have bulked up, they just seem more defined, however if you are concerned, just use 3lb. weights. I actually use the 5 lb.

aww, bored already? lol
Switch it up then- do level 2, then 3, then 1 again, keep alternating 123.
Maybe that will help?
Keep with it!!! :goodvibes:

Ugh, as much as I've been trying to make myself like the shred, I can't bring myself to. I'm not used to really heavy impact exercises (it seems heavier than running) and my joints and back are always aching the day after. Guess I'll just go back to the gym.

03-11-2009, 12:28 PM
Ok, so it came in the mail today. I did Level 1, and it wasn't too bad at all. Just when I'd start getting tired, it was time to switch positions so that was comforting. Then again, I wasn't going too hard b/c I hurt myself the other day (fell off the pole from an upside down position, smashed my face, it's still bruised and swollen, body still really sore). Today's Wednesday, I'll probably stick with Level 1 until Saturday, which will still give me time to heal, and then try Level 2 on Sunday. I'm also gonna go back to my 1hr of cardio/day on Sunday (maybe sooner if I feel better).
I like it so far, and that chick Anita in the video, the one in the green: her body is SICK!! I hope mine will end up looking like that :-P
Really? I want the African American girl's body!

^^^Natalie? Omg, I'm such a loser that I actually listened to their names and remembered them lol. I couldn't see enough of her body to make a final decision about it. Her boobs are bigger than the other chick's though, I'll take those. But Anita's tummy is so tight, and then she still has hips and a little bit of ass. Can't wait to do it again today.

^lol you guys are awesome. i'd take any of them.. but i gotta little girl crush on Jillian.. (must be her tough take charge attitude)
well i tried it for the first time yesterday and it is definitely a challenge, but I never felt like i couldn't handle it. my calves and back are a little sore today so i'm taking it easy, just some stretching to keep my muscles warm. and i'll be picking it back up tomorrow.
i've been using 3 pound weights, i keep the weights light enough so i won't bulk up, but just heavy enough so that I feel the strain.
keep it up ladies!
Am I crazy or does Jillian Michaels seem like a lesbian????
MsLayne
03-14-2009, 09:13 PM
I wouldn't care if she started lesbianism. This dvd has got me back on track. My stamina is off the charts and my stomach is getting flatter and flatter. I just have to work harder for pudge to go away. Also, for lent I gave up fast food like Mickey D's, wendy's etc etc. I feel less bloated. I'm even on my period now and I still look good. :toot toot: lol that's my horn.
greggy
03-15-2009, 11:04 AM
^^^ That's awesome Ms. Layne. I totally feel like I have more stamina at work, but I'm not sure if it's in my head or what cuz I've only done it a few times. And I keep thinking about what you said about your butt being lifted, so I'm sticking with it for sure (I want people to think I've got booty shots too lol).
Either way, I didn't do anything Friday or Saturday, so I did Level 2 today to make up for it. Definitely harder, so I opted for low impact (plus, I wasn't wearing sneakers). I decided not to go back to the gym yet for my 1hr of cardio b/c my face hasn't totally healed (I'm gonna go to the doctor tomorrow). I can't wait till I really start to see a difference. In the mean time at least, I feel pretty good.
And yea, I totally have a girl crush on Jillian too. It is her tough, take charge attitude. I like that, keeps me motivated.

Today was Day 1 of Level 1 for me. What a workout! I was breakin a nice sweat even if it was only for 20 min.. I'll probably move to Level 2 within a few days, because even though Level 1 was a challenge, I can see myself getting adjusted to that pretty quickly.
I also got Jillian's No More Trouble Zones, so I'll let you all know how that goes, too!

Ok so I've been a little lazy with the Shred for the last couple weeks, but hey give me a break i' just moved cross country! But today i did my first level 2 workout and it was definitely a step up from level 1. I've actually tried 2 once before but I had to stop almost at the end, so i should say I COMPLETED it today. my back and arms are sore but I feel great otherwise! i'm getting back into an exercise routine that I missed so much and now I don't want to stop, it's a snowball that I just want to keep going.

I have to admit, I fell off too. I'm gonna go hard.....finals have been taken up so much of my time. I plan on jogging two miles 3 days a week and doing the video for the other 3 days, sunday being my day of rest. I'm trying to work at Sue's in NY and I need to be on my A game.
