I think my digging it up was more in response to the two posters who told me to get a life, to be honest.
And I have no problem helping people who are in bad situations due to no fault of their own. It's the scammers and the poor decision makers that kill me.

And what better response to such an accusation than to revive drama from 6 months ago? ::)

This shit pisses me off too. Way too many unfit parents these days breeding tons of kids while fully knowing of their future being dependent on welfare. If you're not ready...
"Wrap it up!!!"
Anybody that finds offense to that really has no argument.

I may. Or I may decide not to. I just feel bad that she's going to have to go through a whole roasting again for no real reason. Well, except as a way for you to vent excess frustration. It's really just belaboring the point to be cruel at this point.

Elvia, how much of your income do you pay in taxes to support her?

Wow, let me first send you a nice warm fuck you! The op is what's wrong with ppl? I'm wrong for asking a fucking question? Let me tell you something, I have NEVER in my life collected any type of public assistance. I've ALWAYS been the one paying taxes and doing things the right way while other people get over. And my question had nothing to do with not being able to afford the baby, it has everything to do with not sending my child to daycare where someone can hurt him/her and the baby is too young to even tell us it happened. Thank you to everyone else useful responses. Even if we get housing we'd have to pay some rent and we'd automatically qualify for wic. And of course I'd report my income from dancing, although in this area of la, we average about $400 on Friday and Saturday combined. So yes, we would still qualify for assistance. As for now, my checks pay bills and his go into an account for the baby. But jobs out here are so scarce that there is literally less than 5 ads per day in the classifieds.
If you are gonna report your income, why would you ask if it would be wrong? The government will NOT overpay you. So when you report all your income, they would let you know if you qualify and how much you qualify for. You asked a question and asked what we thought. Everyone was just sharing their personal opinion and you have to option to listen or dismiss what they say. There is no need to attack those who responded to your question. I know plenty of dancers who live in government housing (section 8 ), get food stamps and TANIF and drive BMWs and Escalades. Its ridiculous, and for you to say you have always been the one to do right....are you trying to say since you've been doing things the "right" way now its your turn to "get over"? It is very hard for people who really need the help to get it, when so many people are getting over. Example, years ago before I started dancing, I was living on my own (no kids) and worked Full-time making $9.50/hour (approx $1520/month before taxes). My rent was $795 (very low in my area--but still a nice area), $110 for electric, $30 for water, $105 for car insurance (I won't include gas although I worked 30 minutes away), $15 renters insurance, I had a very cheap phone for $30/month. Needless to say when I tried to get foodstamps when times were hard, they turned me down saying I made too much. WTF? So I dont have any sympathy for those wanting to take advantage.

We don't even know what the OP ultimately decided to do, Hyde. Nor do we know if she wasn't using birth control or if her BC failed her. So maybe you should check yourself before you keep making blind assumptions.
I thought folks were being too hard on you before, but this is just ridiculous now and I'm starting to think maybe you really do need to get a life if you have nothing better to do than drag up drama from 6 months ago. How would you like it if people went back to the thread where you told the woman who was repeatedly being raped by her boyfriend in her sleep after she had repeatedly cried and begged him to stop doing it that people shouldn't be "throwing the word 'rape'" around so much and ripped into you again for that?

I think if people want to keep discussing the topic without the OP they should just make a new thread or split this one.

Here in Michigan there is a 48-month lifetime limit for FIP (Family Independence Program)--our form of welfare. I know you live in another country, so this might not apply to you, but here in Michigan you don't apply for welfare unless you really need it. You could find yourself out of work later with mouths to feed wishing you hadn't used welfare when you could have survived without it.
I'm not sure if the 48-month lifetime limit applies to people in other states, but I know that the whole point of welfare is to help people take the necessary steps toward independence.

Well, nice to see that people STILL have to talk shit. If you really want to know how things are going....I stay at home with my daughter, my husband and I qualified for housing, food stamps and wic by remaining honest about our income (as we were before and have always been!) we turned down everything. Now, my mother pays my student loans, we still have no cell phones, no house phone, no cable and no Internet (I'm at my moms house), and I don't pay my credit cards right now. (they were used to pay medical bills when I didn't have insurance) the reason I don't want her in day care is because of down syndrome which we were told she would have. I didn't want to mention that and shouldn't have had to. But ppl want to take a hypothetical situation and make it seem like I'm a fucking criminal.the reason I asked would it be wrong if I didn't report my income is bcuz I wanted opinions on what my girlfriend does without mentioning her. I asked for opinions onthe SITUATION and was personally attacked instead. And Mr. Hyde.....you leave my child out of ur ignorant posts, NOBODY is paying for my child except my husband, if ur too ignorant to respond to a hypothetical situation then don't respond.

I doubt you'll actually qualify for assistance if you have any income trust me. I'm familiar with most formulas to calculate and is you have 1 decent job between you, assets like a car, or anything in savings you probably aren't gonna get squat.
Most dancers who do this say they make $0 a month own nothing, etc.
If you don't need it don't do it, p.s. be careful if you do qualify and start actually saving $. They can make you pay it back under various circumstances.
Why don't you look into assistance to help the kids or something of support rather than just apply for financial assistance. Webcaming, phone sex, part time work could easily pay more than welfare.
If u don't need it its wrong. If I was desperate w/a kid id do what ever but u don't sound as if that's the case.

Oh...I also forgot to mention that welfare applied for by a stay at home mom may not work out as most states have workers who design an action plan to get the client into a job before the first check is cut. If u can't prove job interviews, searching and etc most places stop the checks.
It'd be easier just to dance or do some partime or weekend job.

Thanks for giving us an update. I never said anything derogatory about your child, I asked why you made the decision to have a child when you didn't have money to support one. And if you are getting govt housing assistance, food stamps, and WIC, then someone other than your husband is paying for your child. In fact, a small percentage of all the income of everyone that reads this thread, plus all other taxpayers, is helping to pay for your child. If you had a child when you could afford one and then lost the income that supported your family, I'd be totally sympathetic. I am not against govt assistance for people who make good choices and then run into bad luck. However, when people do things like have kids before they have the money to support them and then expect taxpayers to support them, that bugs me. I work hard for the money I earn and I pay a lot in taxes. Why should I have to pay those taxes so that you can get WIC, housing, and food stamps for you to have a baby and stay home with it?
I am not saying any of this to be mean to YOU...I'm sure if I met you and didn't know anything about you, you'd be a very nice person. But you put this out there on the board and invited people to give their opinions. You got mine.

Thank God the vast majority of our taxes go to the military!! Fuckin right, its way better to blow people up than to feed or house them. ::)
And if you are gonna talk about choices dear, what about the billions of dollars that support Ceo's "bad" choices. Or was that just bad luck? Either way, I bet their steak ( again, paid for by your tax dollars) tastes the same.

Thanks for the more constructive feedback! Once my little one is 2 months old and bottle feeding well (I'm breastfeeding) I will be back in the club helping hubby with the bills. Although, we managed to save some money so we have what we need right now. And Mr. Hyde, although I owe u no explanation, we got pregnant when we both had better paying jobs but in this shit economy, we both lost our jobs and had to quickly get new ones....bcuz we both hate the idea of sitting at home and collecting unemployment. (yes, it may be a surprise to u but we work hard and pay taxes too....I know, its unphathomable) so we didn't decide to have a baby and expect tax payers to front the bill. Thanks Elvia for correcting the illiterate moron.

Awww, thanks! U shouldve heard the criticism we got from the nurses for turning down wic. Almost everyone qualifies for it, so they try to force it down ur throat. But my husband is very prideful and wants nothing to do with any assistance. But he definately won't send a special needs baby to a daycare that can't accomodate the amount of constant supervision she needs. They simply cannot offer one on one attention.... So I stay with her. There are so many times each day that I need to use my infant CPR training becauseshechokes and stops breathing all the time.

She's right. In addition to what I said about the 48-month lifetime limit for welfare in Michigan, you also cannot just be unemployed and receive welfare checks, otherwise you would want to apply for umemployment assistance. You have to maintain 30 hours of employment minimum, with the exception of if you are 7-9 months pregnant (and you can have up to 6 weeks maternity leave) or if you are a full-time student and are under the age of 21. There are some other exceptions for medical conditions and such, but most of the time they want you to verify that you have a job or are actively looking before they'll even send you money. It's not a free ride anymore and "stay at home moms" don't just get to stay at home anymore. I think that's a good thing, no one should live off the state for free. If you need some help for a few months because you lost your job, someone died, or you got injured unexpectedly then that is different and that's why those programs are available. It's not meant to fund people that keep having kids and can't pay their bills working minimum wage.
I'm a young mom and I sure as fuck could try and take advantadge of the system but I don't want to because I want my own financial independence from everyone.
I'm glad to hear your family is doing well.

My very sincere apologies to Sparkleeyez. I missed the part about turning down govt assistance and I deserve to be castigated for it.
And I will also say that I admire her for doing so. I know it's a struggle and the fact that she and her husband are going to make it on their own is worthy of note here.
If at some point in the future their income falls through, I would have no problem with her getting assistance until it picks back up.
Sparkle, I'm sorry for my last post in this thread as far as how I related it to you.
