The answer to your question is completely individual. I remember a customer telling me, "You'll want to stop dancing at 30 so you can retire at the top of your game."

I'm in my thirties now, and I won't lie. I have invested a lot in myself and am a health nut, but I look more beautiful today than I ever did. It shocks people who knew me years ago. Maybe it's a curse because it means I can't NOT dance right now. haha. There's still a lot of money to be made.

No matter what though, get another career going so you never feel stuck. I think this profession is crushing if it's one you feel trapped in.

I'm with JR. Always have a back up.

I won't lie, I'm a drop out and I really don't have any other options besides minimum wage- YET. But I'm using the flexibility this career affords me to go back to school and get my diploma (not a GED, a DIPLOMA)! I mean, how sweet is that? Then, diploma in hand, I can go to college for business like I've always wanted.
I'll keep dancing for years if I want with that business degree in my back pocket while money goes into the bank. Then, when I'm ready to slow down or stop, I can open my business without raising too many eyebrows about the wait (hopefully) because I'll be filing my taxes as a sole proprietor, now trying to start up an LLC.
