Yeah I have never understood the massive amounts of money these guys make. If the mere possession of talent was the sole criteria, they would be making the same as poets, artists, actors (as in live theatre), writers, etc....

As with everything pro-sports-like in this country, it's what they (via their managers) can draw from the tournament/game sponsors. And that is what they can draw from attendees. It is also what a celeb can draw from advertising companies, and that depends on what they can draw from the public. In short blame society. Everyone else just gets what they can. And the public gets it in the end.

Oh I actually do understand--mechanically--how they make the money--obviously the public loves watching guys toss weird inflated balls around, hitting them with sticks, and so forth. In the days of the Romans, it was chariot racing and gladiators, the Blues and the Greens, the Whites and the Reds. They used to riot over which color teams were better.

Whether or not I can personally understand how it is so entertaining that people will willingly pay huge amounts of money for it is another question--it is excruciatingly boring to me, watching any kind of televised or live team sports, or anyone hitting balls with sticks or into or over nets, etc.

And the public gets it in the end.

In this case, I think maybe Rachel got it in the end.
