The USA squad were impressive, honourable, fierce opponents, but I am so proud of my team. Congratulations to them, and all of the outstanding young Canadian athletes. The whole country is proud of them.

Congratulations HB. I have to admit I was rooting for the US but I'm kinda glad that Canada won. I am sick to death of the idiotic comparisons that the media was making to the "miracle on ice" victory at lake placid. If the US had one it would have been a great Olympic victory but I would have had to throw up in my mouth a little every time some idiot tabloid or television show would have asked people to rate which victory was "more meaningful"...
and besides, I really don't like hockey...

Yeah, no shame in admitting that. We are crazy about the game up here. A silver medal now, in our barn, would have been a horribly bitter pill to swallow for Canadians. Now we can thump our chests a bit, and talk about this moment amongst ourselves for a long time. I mean, there are cars passing my home honking their horns! It's big here.
The games are ending now. Vancouver has been a wonderful host, and Canadians from coast to coast have totally soaked it up. I'm looking forward to the closing ceremony, but kinda disappointed that it has to end. For a dude convalescing at home, these olympic games have been such a blessing. I'm so thankful for all of it.
ETA: Wow, they've closed Yonge Street in Toronto because of the massive crowd waving the flag. Wish I could be there celebrating with them. Awesome.

Wow, what a game, well except for the ending (at least from my perspective). I hope the NHL does the right thing and keeps allowing their players to participate. I don't see how that game was anything but beneficial to the league. Enjoy hb!

I think the NHL is posturing to squeeze out more money for their involvement. But man, the exposure for the game from this is massive, and the ratings will be huge, so everyone wins. For sure in Canada this will be the highest rated tv sporting event of all time. We'll have to wait for the numbers for the US, Europe, etc. Gotta believe the IOC and the NHL will want to continue this very symbiotic relationship in the future. They'll toss around ideas for the next four years, but in the end, the NHL players will be there imo.

Love how they decided to poke fun at our Canadian-ness in the final show. Mounties, mooses, canoes, winter, maple leaves, hockey fights, beer...all the stereotypes done tongue-in-cheek. William Shatner, Michael J Fox, Catherine O'Hara lampooning our quirks.
Now the concert is on with Avril Lavigne, Neil Young, Nickleback, Allanis Morisette and others...with 50000 people all wearing fake moose antlers with flashing lights on their heads. Awesome.

All over. The games started with a tragic death before the opening ceremonies had even begun...but man, it was nothing but straight up from there.
Well done Vancouver. Well done Canada.

Congrats to our friends to the North.
Worked all day but the SF Giants flagship station carried the game and medal ceremony live on the radio. It was pretty cool to hear the crowd singing "Oh Canada". Too bad the NHL All-Star Game isn't more like Olympic hockey.
Heard an interesting stat. The salary cap in the NHL is $55 mil. The combined NHL salaries of the Canadian team was $127 mil.

Congratulations to Canada. I caught the 3rd period and overtime and it was exciting. My only problem with Olympic hockey is it has become nothing more than a re-shuffling of NHL line-ups, regardless of who the winner is. for example, tonite the Canadian coach goes back to coaching his American NHL franchise and the American coach goes back to coaching his Canadian NHL franchise. The hockey was good though, nice and clean. I'm not sure I agree with going to 4 on 4 in overtime for a game of this magnitude makes sense. i know why the NHL does it but I think its a bit out of place here.

Wow! Although the event only lasted two weeks, I'm going to have these memories for a lifetime! I feel so fortunate to have been able to experience the Games firsthand.
OK for those interested, here's my Olympic albums for a very, VERY limited time. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing Bob. Glad to see you got to experience the full deal.
Awesome pictures. So many interesting things to see there, and such a beautiful setting.
But seriously...there was no poutine there? A gross oversight by someone. :D

LOL! I knew I wasn't the only one who thought that! Seriously, I went around searching for poutine at the various provincial pavilions and I was distraught that the Quebec house didn't have poutine on the menu. Thankfully, they did offer it at Live City Vancouver but I knew a poutine that early in the night would put me to sleep so I had to pass. I did make sure to give the great Canadian dish some much deserved recognition at the Canada pavilion though.
