There's a burlesque troupe around these parts that only hire large women. They will tell you to GAIN weight if you are not significantly overweight.

All of these examples that you have been given are relevant.
the keys:
Management requires certain employees to meet certain standards and hire accordingly: (ie attractive fit women who can waitress)
Management feels that an employee no longer meets those standards: (ie, the employee gained too much weight in managements opinion)
Points that are irrelevant to this argument:
-whether or not she is fat.
(its whether or not management thinks she meets the standards they hired her under)
-whether or not YOU think she still looks hot.(again, see above)
-whether or not she can still waitress competently(that is not the only requirement to work here, here she has to also meet their definition of fit)
-whether any of the jobs require schooling, or training(in the analogies, it only matters whether or not the employee is meeting the standards required by management)
-whether or not they would lose much money if they kept her on(keeping one person on who doesnt meet the requirments of the position while everyone else does is a horrible way to run a business)

Its good to know that the Hooters girl will end up on her feet.:)
And you are right that there is nothing wrong with that girl. She is not ugly or fat, she is just not pretty and skinny enough to be working at a job based entirely around looks.
So wait lets not encourage a waitress to lose weight becuz it's not to her own benefits as a Hooters waitress or as a female waitress at all becuz we all know that doesn't add money to her tip or give her more upscale options I mean she's just a fucking waitress & if she wants to look like a denny's waitress let her.
What kind of wack message about standards are we giving the next generation w/this fat positive size doesn't matter bs no wonder the next generation is obese yep by then there will be no hott hooters waitresses becuz working out is such a taboo we can't even suggest to women who represent a sexy image for a company that makes it's whole living off of it.
As for the burlesque troupe that requires members to gain weight--they so sound like the group of fat loving lesbians I can't stand. It's so backward to promote being unhealthy to be sexy simply for lack of wanting to take care of themselves. That's not any better then promoting a cocaine diet or any ana bs which I'm equally against. However they are in their right & no1 sues them on it.
Hooters at least promotes a healthy lifestyle by suggestion she use her free gym membership. Oh the Horror !!!!
Now maybe some people who don't go to Hooters or invest in it or care about their image will say who cares, but Hooters obviously does. Have you seen Ms Venezuela of their annual beauty contest -- Damn that woman is wow. Super hotness & sure I don't expect that quality of hotness to be serving food, but I do expect Hooters to care about their image when hiring cuz yes there is a standard of which the customer goes to see attractive fit Hooter girls working for them completely. It is directly on the top reasons why their customers go there & why they spend & make money off the image. To them it is money & seriously counter profitable/bad business not to care about the image their customer gets while at Hooters by their waitress.
If a customer goes expecting an advertised image Hooters spent money on & instead they see something completely different well changes are they are losing out on what they spent their money on as well as the money lost by having customers who feel ripped off. Lots of girls btw on their calendars & contest have actually worked for them as waitresses 1st.

You are all missing the point. The girl is clearly not fat. She is 5'9" and weighs 130. I am 5'2" and I weigh just the same and I have no chunk on me. So therefore...she cannot possibly be fat in order to get this talk from management. Being smaller than is healthy is a problem. If it were a doctor that told her that it would be different but it wasn't so I think they have no right to tell her when she clearly is not over weight...o.0

I watched the video, she is not hot enough to be a hooters waitress i'm sorry. You can quote all the numbers you want but it won't trump actually looking at her. If she truly weights only 130 she does not carry it well at all, she looks closer to 150. The problem is you are equating "this girl is too fat to be a hooters waitress" to "this girl is fat", those are completely different statements.

yeah but you have to wonder how many other girls weigh about the same and if they're getting the same talk from hooters. i was reading one day in the doctors office healthy weights and heights, and according to my weight i was underweight. but then again i have small boobs and am really thin. i didn't see her bust size but everyone knows that that should be considered underweight. everyone carries their weight differently and since we really couldn't see how she looked it's hard to even tell. it's not like she's 200 pounds and again i'll ask is this one girl really the downfall of the entire hooters image? considering all the chains out there? plus everyone can notice that the uniforms aren't exactly flattering. so what if she had a little muffin top or didn't have dd fake tits...obviously if they were really trying to keep up the image they wouldn't have hired her in the first place, the girl isn't exactly gorgeous to begin with so there wasn't a problem when they hired her. i think everyone is so fixated on their ideals of what hooters waitresses should look like rather than what they actually look like.

If her manager didn't want her, he could have just fired her on the spot. Obviously they thought she was worth keeping around if she got fit...they gave her time and a fee gym membership. Since she has a boss, that boss has the right to ask her to get in shape. She didn't do it. What's the problem? I don't understand what you're trying to say.

what part don't you understand? i honestly think this whole debate is pretty pathetic...we didn't get to really see what the other hooters waitresses there looked like. maybe we should ask pixie since she actually has seen the girl. oh wait, she's already said that she isn't fat...honestly how many hooters waitresses have you seen that are all perfect 10s? this isn't a modeling agency, it's a restaurant...girls working minimum wage who probably aren't making tons of tips considering the price of the food. it's basically like a dennys with skimpy uniforms. i think everyone is blowing this way out of proportion.

Actually you did see the other girls, and that girl when she was skinnier. Its in the video, they show a picture of all the girls together including her before she put on weight.

lol...talk about missing the point......no one is saying she is fat, not even management. Management is simply saying that she no longer meets the standards under which she was hired.....
and just about all of the rest of us are saying its managements right to ask her to meet the requirements which they have established.

well in the video i saw a girl who didn't look exactly in shape, imo. honestly, none of us has actually seen this girl in person, pixie has. i'm going to take pixie's word for it over than what was seen in the video...but that's my personal opinion.

Ruby, yes, you're missing the point. The point is not whether she's fat. None of us know. The point is, her BOSS asked her to lose weight to help her maintain an image. She was given time and a free gym pass, and she didn't do it.
I don't see why you don't see this. It's not whether she's fat or not. It's about what she was asked to do and didn't.

Her boss asking her to loose weight he deems unnecessary for her to "have gained" is a nice corporate way of saying "you are fat" and getting away with it. Finally someone said no, this is wrong. That's what it is about.
Why is it wrong? I want to play in the NBA should they not be allowed to say no because i'm 5'10 and slow?

Once again, she is a waitress. Not some top priority job like a doctor or a sports star.
it's wrong because if she actually did go through with it and lost the required late an dshe got sick as a result of it, there is a lawsuit.

Trem is right...what's wrong about it?
I'll ask this and then I won't ask anything else if you answer it...if it's wrong to tell her to lose weight at that level, is it wrong to tell her to lose weight at ANY level, like say....100 pounds more than she has now?
If you say no, then you lose the argument. If you say yes, you're saying that Hooters waitresses can be obese...and you lose the argument.

You're aware it's not only healthier to be slightly over than underweight, and that you can be overweight with absolutely no health problems, right? And that it doesn't denote you aren't "taking care of yourself"? I mean feel free to, personally, find it visually repulsive, but at her height, she could gain weight and still be healthy.

when you seek a job at hooters, you are aware that it is an image based job. She knew she would be wearing a skimpy tight uniform... When hooters hires you they tell you that you should come in looking nice(make up down and hair down). Hooters girls are not even allowed to wear any type of clips in their hair.
The uniform is very ugly honestly, but it is part of what they are known for and how you look in it is part of the hiring process. You have to try on the uniform during the interview.
Yea, hooters is not some modeling agency but when girls seek a job there they know what hooters is about. Whether or not the pay is amazing is irrelevant, the girl worked there for 2 years so she knows this is an image based company.
I've seen plenty of uglier hooters girls than her but it's not my call anyway... She didn't really look 132 lbs to me. but w/e.

I have to agree she is not fat at all, when I was watching the news clip I thought she was absolutely beautiful. I just feel sorry for her now with all the guys that are going to try to look her up on facebook is dangerous. What I thought was funny when the manager came out, now he has a health issue and should keep his mouth shut.
Not sure if any of you watched that show undercover boss, where the ceo disguises himself as regular, to find out if the franchise is following his company policy. I think ceo would have definitely layed the smack down this manager for tell someone directly to go and lose weight.
I think she took approicate action by bringing it to the news media, it will definitely have an impact on hooters itself, and the manager will probably be let. I have a philoshopy were no guy should never disrepect a woman and judge them for who they are, everyone should be treated equally.
I think its time to serve justice to the manager.

I'm aware that she might not to unhealthy or fat--that's a separate issue cuz to me the issue is still about her fitting the company image she was hired for & if she can't fit the uniform right then it's a given that she is not as simple as that. Even though who knows by now she might have lost it.
As for health sure there is that few that are slightly overweight that are in decent health, but that is not the same as calling them as fit as those who are not & after those few slightly overweight lbs the other pounds that usually follow over time does become more of a burden one puts on their heart, lungs, bones, and joints. It is not healthy by any means & no1 feels better being overweight then at their body's ideal. Yes I know how being underweight can be horrible for some1 & I'm equally outspoken about it when some1 is sickly thin as I am about obesity. In fact a lot of my closest friends & ex gfs had issues on both sides of the coin. 1 of my oldest friends drain drano to get thin which that & yrs of ana only made her obese fat which I'm the 1 who holds her hands & has to sit w/ her to convince her that actually eating is a good thing that will along w/working out help her lose weight which has been slowly but surely working. I also had an ex that used to throw up all the time after binge eating & really expensive nice dinners I treated her too. Anyhow it grossed me out & she was a size 3, but wasted my time trying to get her to quit telling her I didn't care if she gained weight on me so long as she was healthy that ultimately all she was doing was giving herself serious health problems that were going to slow down her system & make her either dead or fat in a few yrs..Of course she didn't listen so now she is diabetic & abit overweight @ 26, but I thank goodness she has decided to eat better now she is forced to.
Anyhow I just firmly believe it should simply be a given that everyone should care to be healthy & that requires fueling your body & keeping it running correctly which is where maintaining a decent level of fitness comes in. I don't care so much about weight itself. I know what looks good & that should be the ideal for those selling the image of sexy, but over all I think the goal of everyone should be to maintain a healthy weight for their bodies thur means that are good for them not destructive.

I have to say diabetes & being overweight doesnt always mean you will get diabetes. I have type 1 diabetes myself, and when I was diagnose I was well underweight for my height at that time. My sister is a medical doctor as well, and I remember sometime back she handed me book that showed what weight you are suppose according to height cause I am 5'9 145lbs and i still consider myself skinning for some reason lol. I think this hooters or the manager of the franchise company could actually face a lawsuit, cause she is in perfect shape to be honest.
I just wanted to input to help out some people in near future who think they might have type I diabetes for me
Helpful tips:
Type I diabetes is genetics, so if your grand parents, mom or dad has it, then you are in a high risk of getting. Sometime takes alot for diabetes appear right away in an individual those, you could have it a young age or might pop-up at when you turn 23
1. Used wear eye glasses and after i was diagnose my eye vision went to from 40/40 to 20/20 (blurring vision)
2. you rarely making poop, and if you try to force urself it comes out small and hard to poop
3. constantlly peeing
4. headaches
5. also when you blood sugar gets high too, you can feel your eyes starting to bulge

Her face looks poofy & her neck looks a little meaty than before. So yeah, she prob don't look the same as before.
What I find funny is that Hooters has a higher standard of hiring than a strip club these days. She can prob be a strippah :P

I digress.

My girlfriend was training at hooters, and at the end of the training her trainer got them some dessert - the manager walks up and says "you can have this," to the trainee, then "she cant" to the trainer. they have mirrors and a full dressign room in the back and will tell you to fix your hair/makeup/ whatever.

as much as it sux that this girl is going thru all of that at hooters - and as much as it sux that the same guy who condemns the girl's weight is ironicaly obese - i agree that it isnt entirely a double standard since he's not the one hired to look cute and serve the food. that's like comparing the looks of a stripclub barback to that of the strippers.
about the girl, cassy - as mean as this sounds, i agree with some others that she looks bigger than 132. i also agree with the comments about the neck rolls, muffin top, and possibly gaining more weight since the pics were taken. perhaps she even underestimated her weight of "132" or cited the last time she got weighed at the dr's - which coulda been MONTHS ago. i mean, she has bigger hips and more weight around them than this pregnant girl i know, whose hips have increasingly widened since shes become pregnant.
also - sometimes it's not the weight number, but how someone carries the weight on there body frame. e.g. i know some girls who are 5'6" 140 but appear slimmer than someone who is 5'8" 135...becuz mebbe the 5'6" 140 girl has more muscle tone, or more "good curves" (boobs 'n booty) to balance it out, etc. whereas other girls might not have any boobs so it makes their tummy look bigger in comparison. or for some girls, any lil weight they gain goes all to their stomach - makin them look fake pregnant - not attractive at all esp if everyone knows shes not really pregnant!!! IMHO if cassy really is 132 she doesnt carry it all that well
edit: a lil story bout a stripper friend i once had. she actually got fired from her club becuz the managers were truly convinsed that she was pregnant. she put on alotta weight - combo of going off drugs n eating too much junk food - and almost all the weight went to her stomach, and a lil to her boobs, just as a preggers woman would gain weight. she was upset and started goin on this semi dangerous diet pill/binge diet thing but yeah. its def all about how a girl carrys the weight that determines if she looks "too chubby" or not
