View Full Version : Dancing to girly pop music?

Bad idea? I know I have to be considerate since the crowd will primarily be guys, but has anyone ever had a set to some girly pop songs (and which ones?) and it go over pretty well? I just feel like I can get into the dancing much better if it's pop music. Puts me in a guilty pleasure sexy mood for some reason, lol.

And will the DJ be like, "Uhm...no."?

Great to know! What are some of the songs you dance to?

Lol...this is one I've been dancing to around my house to lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnSbpPXlmvo

I play a hell of a lot of girly pop, the Russian and Argentine girls in my club tend to like it. Some girls can really pull it off, too. You don't want to play girly pop for one of those saggy baggy dancers that really ought to be staying home, but keep turning up in ever increasing numbers in the clubs these days.

From what I've seen of your pictures, you won't have any problems with it at all, except counting your tip money--unless maybe your DJ is an asshole. I used to refuse to play pop when I first started ten years ago, but I think there is a lot more 'good' pop music than there was back then, along with all the fucking schlock.

Though if it's really cheesy I will try to avoid it, or maybe play it at the beginning of the night if the girl is demanding it, to get it out of the way while it's slow. ;D

There is cheesy girly pop and there is sexy girly pop. Like for instance Shakira's She Wolf is horrible, though not so bad I refuse to play it--it's one of those 'get it out of the way while the club is still fucking dead' songs. Most of Britany Spears is pretty cheesy, but she has a couple that are pretty good, like 'Breathe on Me'.

Also there are remixes of a lot of these songs that reduce the cheese factor significantly, such as the aforementioned Breathe On Me [slave mix].

Or you could try:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZ3QEanryA (Beyonce 'Halo' [Dave Aude club mix] cue it in about 40 seconds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgZ5pKWQOcU (Cassie 'Me & You' clubstyle remix) I cut out where that sack of shit 50cent raps there for about 20 seconds because I cannot stand his retarded voice, but most people won't mind, it's pretty short

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSYCI4K5qGM (Ciara 'Oh') This is slow but sexy. Ciara has a lot of these type songs, including some faster ones like 'So What' and 'One Two Step'.

or maybe one of my all time favorite girl pop songs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyjuUu_XDZ8 (Maria Carey 'Heartbreaker' Missy remix) I like this one because of all the things I can say about the girl onstage, but I will only play it for certain ones. Like Tanja who wears the song so well, she is now Tanja 'The Heartbreaker'

Sorry about the goddamned commercial on the last one. If I ever needed any more proof that music videos are evil, this would be it. But it's an easy way for you to listen to the music, so what the hell.

Boots and boys by ke$ha. That song gets me going pretty well. It gives me a feeling of superiority to the men in the club, which is something that helps my hustle too.

There are one or two girls specifically that dance to the girly pop songs in my club... but considering they look like they SHOULD BE dancing to it, they make a killing. This one girl lovessss Britney Spears to death. Which isn't too much of a problem... hey, I dance to Backstreet Boys...!

Girly pop is good as well as hard rock..

rap and ghetto music need to go! No club should play that unless its an urban club with an urban crowd and dancers.

I also dont want to see DJ's making their own mixes because most of them arent that good and the mix sucks.

I love girlie cheesy pop to dance/pole to. Britney is a massive fave, Circus is ace to pole to, similarly the mix of poker face and circus is hot lol.

Rihanna -only girl in the world.
Christina Aguilera - Come on over, genie in a bottle
Sugababes - round round, push the button, freak like me.

Im a big advocate of girlie pop to pole too :D

Oh yeah! I really despise fast music, but if someone is going to force me to dance to it I'll break out the girly bubble gum pop music!

Usually I'll come on stage to something really old school like
Fever by Peggy Lee - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4hXyALR9vI

Then switch it up to the girly music like
Barbie Girl by Aqua - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyhrYis509A
Bubble Pop Electric by Gwen Stefani - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e4Y46rpZbk
Material Girl by Madonna - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CQHIP-38jA
If by Janet Jackson - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeXPKcdAhkA

& Close out with something very smooth & sexual like
Any Time, Any Place by Janet Jackson - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLD9yoBisWs
My Love Is For Real by Paula Abdul - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39jfmB5kR84

In person I have a very calm demeanor, & on stage I go into a sort of pin-up mode, but when I break out the girly music the dance style changes a lot to a faster pace, lots of jazz moves, & various facial expressions similar to what Betty Paige used to do. I totally ham it up with the audience on these songs.

I like dancing to girly-pop when I'm feeling up to it. It's ultra feminine and tends to get a good response from older men. I like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and some Britney Spears.

Get Together - Madonna
Like a Drug and Two Hearts by Kylie Minogue
Phonography and Breath on Me - Britney Spears
