Zinaida

Princess Zinaida Yussupova(the last one, her grandmother was also Princess Zinaida Yussupova I think)

Because 'Lemmiwinks, Gerbil King' was too long.
Anastasia Foxx

Well it's a very good name, especially now knowing what it means.
Mine has nothing to do with my being a DJ, it's not 'DJ Oser'.
It is Djoser, the guy who built the first pyramid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_of_Djoser
I was almost an Egyptologist.
Well, here's my inner dork coming out: I've never read your name as DJ Oser, I've always read it as Djoser, like the Pharoah, maybe because my daughter wanted to be an Egyptologist.
I was dubbed Anastasia because I was told I look like the Grand Dutchess Anastasia Romanova. Foxx because 1) the person who named me this thinks I'm the hottest thing in legs and 2) I always got jokes.
From the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, a house music song that I had on a mix that a friend made for me in college. I haven't been able to find it since. "Pure, everything that I am I adore"

I like to tinker with things and I like to ball so I am good ol Tinkerball.:);):P
mediocrity
04-23-2011, 09:45 PM
Originally, I was going by HyperMediocrity on the internet in reference to the Fischerspooner song, and it was gradually just shortened to mediocrity.

I like the character Lestat de Lioncourt. My life could use a small dose of his zest and courage for pursuing what he desires.

Glad this thread got revived :) It's interesting to see why someone picked their names... Plus it's kinda cool that some people put some real thought into what they chose..

I lost the password to my old account, so I had to make a new one. I had just bought my new dog, a papillon named BooKoo. So, Papillonluvr. If I could change it now and not lose all my post counts, etc, I would, but oh well.
Dolly_Haze
04-25-2011, 05:49 AM
Dolores Haze from Nabokov's Lolita, of course. My first stage name was Dolly and I kept that for about a year until I started to outgrow it. There used to be many strange parallels between my younger life and that novel, but I've since written myself out of the pages.

I was reading "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and the protagonist was named Robert Jordan. Good story, cool character.

alvida

"alvida" means 'goodbye' in hindi, and when I decided to start dancing I said goodbye to the old me and reinvented myself :)

it's from the Frankie Avalon song, which I don't love. It's the mindset I have at work!

No at least I don't think I do. I'll have to try it.;D
This is a terrific thread; thank you for starting it, Kaiarose!
I only wish my screen name had a more interesting story. It's the first 4 letters of the street where I live.
(I would have used the whole word, but that name was already taken.)
(By the way, you look just lovely in your new avatar! Glad to read that you're feeling well after the operation. :))
Insulinshock
04-26-2011, 07:23 PM
My vanilla job involves dealing with diabetic patients and I think insulin shock sounds cool, though I am far more likely to be a victim of sugar coma.
Also, this has nothing to do with my user name, but I freaking love The Guild.
I just assumed you were a fan of The Guild...

Thanks! It's interesting to see how these SW'ers minds work sometimes :P
And thank you for the compliment :-* I am feeling pretty much 100% back to normal!
kellyallstar
04-27-2011, 06:23 PM
Kelly was my stage name, and allstar came from the song sung by smash mouth, my mum thought the lyrics "not the sharpest tool in the shed" was funny and thought of me.
So I combined it, but I think of allstar as being the fucking shit! :P lol

^Lol. The Guild is awesome.
One of the perks of living in LA is that Felicia Day does live appearances all the time. <333 I've got such a crush on her.
I'm unspeakably jealous. (In a good way) :)

Flickdreams

Flick is short for Felicity my last dancer name (which means good fortune, happiness etc) and Dreams is my home club in Melbourne.
Cool Thread... Wish more people would answer :) Like HaydenBlue, Roast, BlkSharpie, Loveshooks.... I had always been curious but never thought to ask..
BlkSharpie
11-04-2012, 07:09 AM
I could have sworn I said something about how I got my screenname before lol
Ooh, well when I joined, I was in the midst of teasing a friend of mine that I used to be FWB with.
Whenever we hung out, he always had Sharpies on him, and doodling or writing lyrics.
And if he forgot it at home, we'd *have* to stop at the store so he could get one.
I wasnt fooling aroudn with him anymore though, no plans to, but hed always ask, and ask me for sexy pics
So, for a few months, I would find photos of Sharpies online, send Sharpie Porn to his phone with little captions I made up, for example:
Sharpie Marker = For Her Pleasure
Blue Sharpie = Mile High Club
Pile of Sharpies = Sharpie Orgie
Double Tipped Sharpie = For *our* pleasure
Mini Sharpie = Two Finger Fun
I was having a ball cracking myself up with it for a few months there...lol
And since my Cam name starts with Black, I gravitated to BlkSharpie
Ive always had a Sharpie in my avatar in some form too...
Right now (and for awhile now) its the Cut-Paste-Delete....written in...Sharpie ;D

Screen name= Dancer name and one of my alias's...
I always get "Charlotte's web?" and if I'm feeling lazy I just say yeah, whatever...or I'll say it's my real name, or make something up about where I got it, or if I'm really in the mood and the guy seems appropriate, I'll tell him the truth, it's because of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY0MdNAlMSA
Kittie- Charlotte. Which I was wild about back when I was a teenager... Never dug many of their other songs but I played this till I made holes in the CD.

They toured here in Australia recently, teehee. Missed the gig cause I was busy tho.
loveshooks
11-04-2012, 03:21 PM
I'd love to know the meaning behind 'Roast' as well :)
mine is pretty basic. I think I've walked through every important stage of my life with a bell hooks book in hand. Her ideas have had a profound impact on my life and I adore her, so I chose my handle as a descriptor: 'loves hooks' :)
charlotte_ai
11-04-2012, 03:33 PM
I've been reading so many names wrong
djoser as DJ-oser
loveshooks= love-shooks
Everything I thought I knew is wrong... lol
tuesdaymarie
11-04-2012, 03:39 PM
...this entire time, I thought you were "love shooks," and I really liked it. I'm not sure why. It just sounded like a song I'd listen to while lighting a candle or something, like Skinny Love.
I'm going to go write a song called "love shooks" now, about a girl who led me on.
OliveJardin
11-04-2012, 03:43 PM
Olive-because it's my favourite stage name. And Jardin-because it's Garden in French and friend used to say, "come check out Olive's Garden (which should have been Grove lol, but oh well)" which became an "in" joke. Yeah, it kind of sounds like an American chain restaurant, but luckily we don't have one in Australia :P

jo jo cuz jo is my real name and x cuz...i dunno
SuperJa
11-04-2012, 06:07 PM
Mine's a nickname I've had since I was a kidlet. My parents always call me Ja, it's a play on my real name. They gave me and my sis both nice multi-syllable names and then refer to us as Ja and Jo all the time.
britchick85
11-04-2012, 06:08 PM
Because im British and was born in 1985.
Aniela
11-05-2012, 02:42 AM
Aniela was my original stage name. Thought it was pretty but didn't really feel it suited me, so I didn't keep it for long; besides another girl liked it so much she said she was taking it w/ her when she moved on. I definitely wanted a name no one else had, at least among US dancers, & my current stage name is derived from a family name on my mother's side. Will probably be keeping it til retirement.
