I wear wigs ad extensions and always get asked, every day if I'm wearing 1, but I also got asked that question with my real hair, everyday. I just like the way the wig looks better and I can be lazy just slap it on already styled. Like norachen said COLOR is important. If you pick an unnatural color for your skintone it does not matter how nice it is it will look unnatural. I've gotten cheap $20 wigs that looked and felt better than $150 ones. The hair has to be soft or forget about it. Can get so freakin ITCHY and hot but luckily I live in Canada which is always cold as hell so it only helps for me. Haven't found a wig I really love yet. I think I have a round face shape and a small head so at times it can feel like the wig is way too big and there is all this excess hair. I've had brown, black, platinum blonde... for blonde you should probably go for real human hair since the synthetic tends to be so damn shiny. Dark brown looked nice on me but only going 1 shade darker to black and I look way paler! I just ordered a dark auburn 1 I can't wait to try it!!

i find real human hair to be a pain in the arse. when u first get 1 it looks amazing, then after you wash it, it never goes the same. and after u style it again right, if it lays wrong for a moment the style gets fucked up again and u have to wash it. it also knots and tangles really bad after washing. i spent £500 on a human hair monofilament top wig from Gisela Mayer and I hate it. i got it in light blonde and after a few months tried to dye it brown and the dye wouldn't take for shit, it ended up under the bed in a box and I bought another synthetic wig. I cannot stress enough how great Rene of Paris synthetic wigs are. If you get any wig. Get one of those.

The curls are a pain the ass to mantain and they are heavy and the wig is constantly moving. But it's pretty ;3;

I find curls easy to maintain. I just put some got2b oil-licious on my wig and leave it braided until I use it again.

Does anyone have any suggestion how to deal with the 'rats nest fray' that happens in the back of the wig where the hair is rubbing against your color bone all the time?

My wigs will look great except for that part. Once it gets really bad I'll try to take a hair dryer to it to try and smooth down the worst of it but it just never helps for long. Eventually I just have to toss the whole thing out and a buy a brand new synthetic wig. :(

I do the hairdryer smoothing thing too, with 1 of them soft brushes and a direction thing on the dryer. you could try just cutting the bad parts off when they get too much. personally im always facing the camera so no1 sees the back of my wigs anyway.the worst part for me is the fringe/bangs, a lot of my wigs that came with them, no longer have them, its like they welded to the rest of the hair or broke off or something, they still look good though. lols.

Wet the hair down with warm water. Usually a nice wash and 'dunk' in the water to get it wet. Towel dry and put your iron on the lowest (but warm) setting and glide the iron or straightener on it. If it can stand heat you should be good, if the wig isn't heat resistant it should still work with wet hair and a low heated iron (not hot enough to burn). If it can stand a bit more heat, turn it up to your desired temperature.

I have synthetic wigs, I had the tangles underneath also from the constant rubbing. I got a small spray bottle, put about 1/3 of that bottle worth of fabric softener and the rest water. Sprayed the entire wig and worked out tangles with fingers gently, then used wide tooth comb on that underneath part of matted mess, it worked great. Brings the wig back to a healthier "look" and smells amazing lol!

^^Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for that awesome tip!
I love my wigs, (I have over 30 of them), I have a wig obsession, but that tangling thing is a turn off, and I never knew how to alleviate the problem. I am so attached to them that I hate to throw away a wig. I don't know why.

If you regularly wear wigs human hair makes sense in the long run. Synthetics are cheap, but you have to replace them often esp if you cam in them several times a week. For 400 you can get an amazing human hair wig that will last you a couple of years and will look just like real hair. If you buy from a chinese supplier you can often cut that cost in half too, just look for some companies with good reviews.

There are synthetic wigs that last a year or longer too if you take care of them. My sythetics usually last 3-4 months before I put heat on them and straighten them for life and they last me a few months after that. I dunk them in fabric softer and water to wash them or deep wash and deep condition them with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and they come back to life. I've wanted a real hair one but I can't justify myself spending $400+ at once on one wig when I can get 10+ synthetic lacefronts with futura fiber.

I think I'm just jaded. My first wig was a synthetic that cost $400. I thought that was the norm and did extensive research and it was cute for a bit right before the hair and the swiss lace went to shit. From then on I stayed riding synthetic lace fronts under $65. If I'm gonna pay $400 for a real hair wig it needs to be a full lace wig and not a lace front with a few real tracks sewn in, lol.

Hmm, the human hair ones I'm thinking of are full lace though, which is cool because you can pretty much part them anywhere. But yeah 400 is really steep for a wig, so it's best to go with a supplier if you can so it's around 200+ tax/shipping.

I always wear wigs for my shows; mine are brightly colored though, not natural at all, but it really works for my look! Once I got a hair fetish-est and he thought my wig was my real hair, bought a prvt show from me for that and all I had to do was play with the wig like it was my real hair!

I have thought about getting a wig before because I absolutely hate dealing with my hair. I loved reading this thread and became sold on definitely getting a wig. I went to the hairsisters link from this thread and came up with 10 favorites and then narrowed it down to 2 that I really wanted. I added them to the shopping cart and then the website went down. That was almost 10 hours ago and it is still down.

I then thought ok I will find a different site. There are so many and now my head hurts. lol. I know nothing about wigs. I do know that I want synthetic and it must have a bang(I have a big forehead...ok huge). Also I don't want to spend a lot of money on my first wig.

I am just sooo excited and super impatient. Also it is definitely time to take out my tree braids.

I buy all of my wigs on ebay. (most come from china, and will take a while to get to you). If you need one asap. just buy from an American vender.
I've never had a problem because you can use paypal, and there is always customer satisfaction, or you don't get charged.

Thanks for the suggestion. The site finally came up and I ordered a wig from hairsisters after all.

Speaking of wigs, has anyone tried the half- wig 'clip in' pieces? You clip it in starting on the middle of your head.
I watch a demo on T.V. the other day, but they didn't say the brand name(although they mentioned some drugstores carry them).. It looked so easy to do.
I'm looking for fullness and of course length. My head gets so hot under a full wig, now that it is summer, so this would be ideal. plus, I could wear it when I go out.
Thanks in advance. Glam

I've been thinking about getting a wig for awhile now. Finally tried some on and got a long dark brown wig with bangs. It's SO different than my short blonde hair but I think it's a good look for me. We'll see how the guys like it on cam. I do a lot of Domme stuff so I'm hoping it will go over well! I'm excited to try it. :)

has anyone had trouble with their hairline while wearing wigs? I wore a wig before and it was super tight and I think the cap was too small I have a massive head. I'm thinking about getting another one but I'm scared any wig cap will ruin my edges or won't be comfy bc of the size of my head and I have tons of hair to hide under it.

The downfall with those is the hair feels like wool within a month or two:(

Have you tried using coconut oil on the ends? About 1" - 6" off the tips and then rake through with a hair pick. It seems to work to unwoolify the synthetics a bit--enough for camming at least. It makes the strands fall a little more naturally because they tend to clump in unnatural ways when the wig gets old. It works better if you cut off an inch or two to get the really bad parts out. You have to keep re-applying now and then because it wears off.

This is what I mean. Regular food grade coconut oil:

Thanks, I'm going to try this with the really long wig I have. The ends have clumped up and are uncombable now.

I tried something the other night that worked great! An upholstery steamer. I have a low end cheap one. Using it brought an old wig back to new condition (about 95%). I put it on an ironing board, brushed through in sections, and steamed each small section following behind with a brush. I made sure the upholstery cleaner had its brush attachment on so it got brushed twice on each swipe. All the cottony parts came out straight. Amazing. It worked on both a high-temperature wig and low-temperature wig. I may show take some pics the next time I do it.

I wanted to wear wigs to cam, not so much for identity sake, but the ease of just throwing it on, and I have really thin fragile hair, so I can't dye alot. I tried and took it off 5 minutes before I started my show. It was too hot and too long and all over the place. I do want to invest in some good wigs though. This was a semi-cheapie and just didn't do the job.
