Buying anything with a gasoline engine. I think I have an octane fetish.
3 lawn mowers, weed whacker, chainsaw, rototiller, ATV, golf cart and an old Corvette.

5 year cheddar cheese. Any longer and it's too sharp. Younger than that...I feel like I'm eating a hunk of flavorless oil.

Going out for breakfast/lunch/coffee/dinner. I live in a small but expensive town and most of the people I know work for peanuts, so to call up a friend and say 'i can't be bothered shopping, lets do lunch' feels like a real luxury.

Yesterday was a perfect example...
3pm, sunny perfect 70 degree weather. Sitting outside on the patio at a restaurant, people watching & drinking fruity drinks. Catching a mid-day buzz while all the rat-racers were still at work.
mmmmmMMM luxurious!

Me too today. I called up 2 of my girls and we headed into town. Popped into the bank to see the look on the teller's face when I gave her my paycheque, then strolled over to a cafe for a coffee in the sunshine. Awesome :)

shopping at sephora, nordstrom, victoria's secret, lord and taylor, etc. buying ANYTHING from those stores really. it could be a pair of earrings on sale for 20 bucks, but walking around with a shopping bag from an expensive store makes me feel good.
buying expensive gifts for people. spending money on yourself is one thing, but being able to afford to spend a couple hundred on a present for another person, THAT'S living expensively.
grocery shopping always makes me feel like I'm living expensively because I'm SO young and whenever I drop $300 on groceries (I don't buy crappy food!) the cashier gives me that "DAMNNN!" look.
oh and I agree with whoever said driving haha. filling up my gas tank all the way feels luxurious! I picked up a friend one time and even she was like "holy shit I can't remember the last time I had a full tank"
paying for something super expensive with a debit card. I try to avoid doing this now because I'm so bad at math, but there's something kinda cool about going on a shopping spree and just being like "swipe swipe swipe yeah I don't care how much this costs I have enough to cover it in my bank account"

+1 on the gas thing. My little sportscar isn't a gas hog, but she drinks nothing but Shell premium, period. And dumping almost $50 into a car that small HURTS, lol.
BTW - anybody not onto this yet - a shameless plug but in a "public service" sort of way - take it from a car guy - they are NOT kidding about their nitrogen gas being superior. I ran only Chevron or other top shelf fuels before, but once I ran 3 tanks of the new Shell gas through my car on a "challenge", I got 1 more MPG average, made 4 more peak hp on the dyno, and the 2nd gear "hiccup" that all supercharged EcoTec cars have was gone, never to return. Until I wasn't near a Shell once and filled up with Chevron again. 1//2 way through the tank - hiccup was back. Ran it empty, filled with Shell again - 1/2 way though the tank it's gone again. This has happened two other times since, same result. Everyone I've turned on to this has become permanently converted to Shell after 3 tanks. And it doesn't matter if your car runs on regular or premium, the Shell gas is really that much better.
Another thing since I"m on this topic - please, if your car doesn't SAY "Premium fuel recommended (or required)", DON'T RUN PREMIUM. So many people waste money thinking it's better to run premium. If your car doesn't SPECIFY higher octane fuel, you're getting WORSE mileage and LESS POWER by running the high test stuff. I could go ito tons of technical stuff here but I'll spare you - just trust me on this, k? ;)

Funny you say this..I have a Benz E350 & I drop it off at the dealership for the normal upkeep & it runs so strong & after a few tanks of gas there's a slight sluggish affect. I've heard about shell's gas but haven't run it exclusively to see results. I'll check it out.

Okay well please note that the last 6 months I have basically been on skid row eating rice and popcorn, and the 6 months prior to THAT I was spending someone else's money.
Then for the five years before THAT I was dancing and living like so:
Glancing at the TV show COPS in the mirror (tv behind me) and smoking bowls as I do my makeup for an hour, ahhh the luxury
Having a small purebred dog to fuss over and take all about town
Those special mushrooms that are like piggie ears, the oyster mushrooms, and the ones that go in spring rolls.
Buying pre-made salads instead of preparing it all myself
getting new fishnets at the slightest sign of a rip, can't stand the ripped-stocking look on girls unless they do their H&mkup well.
getting new cotton thongs and sports socks when the old ones lose stetchieness or look dirty
candles lit while bathing and slowing methodically shaving every leg, armpit, coochie hair off. IDK what I'd do if I ever got electrolysis, just soak I guess!
Ice tea infused with fruit juices or other flavored teas
being able to afford to dance classes
taking trips all around the state to pop in old friends who never get the money or time to travel like me.
Alway getting top shelf gangja at the dispensary
Renting a 2 BR for myself so I have one room for extra stuff and the whole living to myself to stretch!
And now...Having TWO small purebred dogs to fuss over and take about the town
Having racing rollerblades worth $200+ but I acquired them for $5, they are smooth riding and FAST. I also have a cannondale mtn. bike in white, orange and pink that I got on sale. It took me awhile to find a mtn. bike my size in these colors. Mostly only beach cruisers will be cute and girly. However I have 20 speeds and can jump these curbs unlike the cruisers :)
OK I guess some of these DO require you to spend money but I never found joy in things like true religion jeans or my coach purse until a man bought them for me. I just mean, the dollar value of something isn't what makes it valuable to me.

MmMmMMmm I forgot about GARLIC
When I make a very garlicky dish for the evening, after carefully peeling each clove and getting it's goodness into my food, I really can't help feeling spoiled on all that flaaavor and the fact that there will be NO ONE to complain about my breath. Dogs can't talk. I just like knowing it's my stinky mouth to have all night. Usually my sweat will be garlicky all night and my mouth tastes funny in the morning if I eat enough.
If I had a man or a real job or a bunch of evening commitments I'd put off the garlic eating for another night....but I feel like a fancy lady that I can just stay in and be garlicky all unto myself.

Unbeleavable - 3 tanks. Premium if the car asks for it, regular if it doesn't. You WILL feel a difference.
Charlie - Mobile/Exon is excellent gas, as is Chevron. Sinclair and Conoco are also good. The new Shell fuels have a different additive that is just AMAZING. After 15 years of nothing but Chevron/Exon/Mobil, it's all Shell for me until they catch up.
DesuvaDeath - that's all the crap built up in your motor making it's way out, lol. Tolerate the hiccups for one tank, feel it get better on the 2nd, and feel your car drive like never before by the 3rd. ;)

Just out of curiosity - what kind of car, and how long ago was this? ???
What kind of car = maybe theres some reason it doesn't like Shell.
How long ago = was this before they had the new formula.
Also - might be that that station has a bad tank - if the tank is allowing ground water to seep into the gas...
There was one here that I had a similar issue with - not like as bad as you describe but I could definitely tell when I filled up there vs other Shell's in the area. I even mentioned it to a manager there once. I doubt my complaint instigated it, but 6 months later they were tearing the tanks up replacing them at huge expense (it involved a lawsuit with the property owner as they lease the place) - turns out two of them were cracked and seeping water. Took them 3 months to finish the job, but now their gas is as good as the others!
Just sayin' - maybe try another Shell & see what happens, lol.

Finally getting a real tune-up on my car, fixing all the problems I was to cheap to address before. Seriously, I just spent like $1200 on my car. New brake pads, rotors, calipers, rear drums and shoes, fixed the plastic shield that was loose under my car and had been making this tik-tik-tik sound for months, synthetic oil change, tire rotation. And in another couple of months, once it reaches 100k, I'll have another serious tune-up. Unfortunately, this means I'll be keeping the car longer than I would like to. Guess the new Corolla will have to wait a few more years...

taking my cousin's daughter out BIG shopping sprees. she's 13 and I SPOIL her. my cousin is a waitress and her piece of shit ex husband doesn't help her any more than he's court ordered to so I love to take her daughter out to the designer outlet mall and buy her little coach accessories. they have INSANE sales there and last time I bought her a pair of sneakers, a wristlet, and a watch (all from coach) and it only cost me 200 bucks, but the smile on her face was priceless. she sent me a thank you note a few weeks later saying how now she's the envy of all her friends.
also, footing the bill for my friends. my best friend works at mcdonalds and is always short on cash. we like to go on mini road trips to boston to go shopping at the prudential center or to go to concerts and I always drive to save her money on gas and she's always like "do you want gas money???" and I'm like "no dude you're good! I just want to have a good time with you"
I'm kind of a tightwad when it comes to spending money on myself so I love to look at things I COULD have for when I do decide to splurge on something. either online or going to the mall and being like "oh man I could totally afford the new iphone" "I could EASILY afford the payments on that '05 BMW" "I could live in that apartment!" "I could rock that LV bag" etc.
also having a clean apartment
and a clean apartment that SMELLS nice
multiple air fresheners
potpourri sachets in my underwear drawer :]
waiting a week to buy groceries when I run out and grabbing breakfast at starbucks, eating salads at panera bread for lunch, and ordering japanese or thai for dinner :D
wearing my silk bathrobe
deep conditioning my hair
having a TON of magazine subscriptions
getting any sort of mail that isn't junk mail
being tan and thin
dressing up just to go out by myself
having over 1000 points on my sephora beauty insider card LOL
not being in debt like all of my friends and family

it is pretty funny but I guess living expensively in our minds translates to living well. you could live expensively if you have drug habit, but it's not rewarding and the key word is what makes you FEEL like you're living expensively and by buying and doing things that are indulgent yet healthy for the mind and body we feel a deeper sense of satisfaction. :]

Its so funny that the things that make us feel like we're living expensively are actually pretty simple.
To me it seems that we enjoy these things more because most of them are in a way extra. Because if your budget is really tight, you can't really afford a lot of these small things that make us feel like we're living well. Having a lunch with friends only makes me feel good if I don't have to think afterward how I spent money I really needed for something else. And so on...

^that's a really good point I didn't even think about that. it's been so long since I've had a minimum wage job that I barely even remember what it was like hahaha. but thinking back yeah, when I was working at starbucks I would never spend my money on tanning or candles or organic groceries. I would RARELY go out with my friends, I would rarely go for joy rides, I would rarely take days off just because I didn't want to go to work. back when every single dollar I had mattered I couldn't frivolously spend on ANYTHING. each purchase was well thought out. that's why I love the financial freedom I have from dancing. I can spend AND save. in fact, I'm spending more than I was making every week at starbucks, and saving ten times as much as I was saving back then.
