I made a profile a few days ago and got several messages, then connected with one guy. He's got a PhD in my field of study and wanted to get together. He's not local, actually several states away, and immediately offered to come here, booked dinner at one of the nicest restaurants, and gave me his name and place of employment to verify him. He acknowledged that he will be paying for the meeting and we will discuss an allowance in my range when we meet. He's almost too good to betrue, we will find oug when he comes to visit next week. Could it be that he has just done this before and knows the rules?

I just closed my account as well, too many didn't want to show me how real they were. Like for example not just dinner but getting me a gift first meeting etc.

Giving a gift at the first meeting is really a litmus test. If they don't, they either aren't serious I think, or, they're not going to shell out any real money unless they're already getting some. Either way, yuck. I know some ladies ask beforehand for a man to bring a gift, but I've thought about it and decided that if I have to ask them to do it, there's almost no point. The only ones I've met who were decent guys, gave a gift on their own, w/out any prodding.

Well that's the thing, I feel like I have to ask because I would hate to go on a date & get nothing for it. Then feel like I wasted my time.

I understand. I struggle with the same thing. I've finally decided to handle it by weeding heavily, and only meeting very few people in person, and trying to use my gut to limit it to the ones that I think are going to get the whole "man makes the first gesture" thing.
I've only been on four dates so far, and I was 50/50. Two did, and two didn't. But when I looked back on it, the two that didn't, I agreed to a date before I really had a gut feeling on them.

I signed back up. I just want to see what the new year has brought on. A couple of hot guys contacted me. If those pictures are even recent, well I guess I'll find out. hehe this is going to be funny!

This sounds like every broke loser in the strip club who says "no matter how successful I was I'd never pay $1000/hr for a private room" and assumes everyone who does is having sex. Uneducated, unsuccessful men always seem to think all men are the same and share in the same troglodyte pursuits they do. If something constructive was said in either one of your posts I doubt they'd be mocked, but all you're doing is spouting ignorance and calling it fact. I'd hardly call that a balanced viewpoint.
LOL. Two thumbs up and three gold stars for using "troglodyte"!!

One was married so that was a fail . The other was hot but made $40,000 a year and wants a travel baby. He was contacting me just to tell me it was a shame I don't travel yet his profile mentions nothing of allowance. He even called girls on the site stuck up bitches because they didn't want to chat with him all day. Yet he kept messaging me which was annoying after he already knew he has nothing I want. After the third message where he practically had 20 questions I decided to just not answer. I even had to explain that most girls on the site are looking for a wealthy SD at his income he's not going to be able to do much for the SB that has tuition that's more than what he makes a year. Plus what time would she have to up and leave town with no job and with a guy that has no money to offer? This should have been obvious but I think this guy is really looking for someone that thinks he's so hot they will not even care. Strange when a guy like that could just do regular dating unless his pictures are fakes. There was word that some old fat guy was running around the site posting pictures of his nephew as his own. I mean seriously sad.
