^I would be so friggin' constipated on that diet, you have no idea. No fruit, no grains, and just a bit of Broccoli and salad? May I suggest a fiber supplement to mix in with your water? And a Multivitamin at the very least.

Plus I'd be clawing my eyes out hungry. Just 2 chicken strips for lunch? Are you talking homemade or the ones from the pre-packed section in the grocery store?

BTW I eat WAY more than that and according to my fit day calculator I ate 25g of carbs yesterday...which was mostly my brown rice. If you want to eat less than 20g/carbs a day you can still eat more than what you're listing. Is low carb your only plan of attack, or are you trying to go low-carb, SUPER low calorie?

Not trying to berate you, just curious.

You and I both. I thought people had wised up on the whole "low carb/atkins" bullshit. Eat clean (fruits, veggies, lean proteins) and frequent small meals. Take your ass to the gym and work out like you mean it. Your body will change. It's simple!;)

For somebody 250 lbs..... this is what my trainer has told me, but yes, there are conflicting views on this. Like Peter said, some people think it's too much, and can cause the nitrogen toxicity, which is why I incorporate organ meats in my diet, they neutralize the by products of lean protein. Also, you can only absorb about 25 grams of protein in one sitting.

I assume you meant to say organic meat, but no kind of "meat" can neutralize by-products of protein, your kidneys do that by separating Nitrogen from the protein molecule, and excreting it. Doing too much of that causes a back up and that's how you get nitrogen toxicity.

^She means Organ meat, I believe. Chicken livers and such.

I love chicken livers OMG. And Cod tongues. Relieved to see someone else eats them other than my Grampa and myself. Nice to know they're actually good for me....

I have been doing good with workouts this week. I am finding it is easier for me to schedule evening workouts rather than the morning. Does anyone know if there is an advantage to one or the other? I am also doing better with drinking more water. The majority of my days have been saltines, yogurt, and an apple and chicken and salad for dinner.

whatever time of day fits into your schedule the easiest is the best time of day to work out.

Hey,
I usually eat more than that on a daily basis, the appetite just wasn't there for me yesterday. The chicken I baked was raw, skinless, boneless from the supermarket. As far as the whole Atkins thing, I agree that their method can be a little ridiculous. Claiming that you can have just about ANYTHING low in carbs is not sensible. Mayo has 0carbs, so does bacon, both of which I try to stay away from. I think that most people would classify what I do to lose weight as Atkins because it's based on low carb, but it's really not if you really look at what I eat. It's more of a modified form of Atkins at best. I've been using this method of dieting for when I feel like I need to lose weight since waayy back when I was about 14. I didn't even know about Atkins back then, I had a family member lose almost 30 pounds in a little less than 2 months and I just asked what she ate and copied it. She explained it to me like this. She told me to do a test week to see what it takes for me to get my body in it's fat burning state (how many healthy carbs I can tolerate and still lose weight), then after I have found that number, stick to it and don't eat more carbs/day than that and the weight will come off. She told me to limit my red meat ingestion to maybe a couple of days a week because it can be hard on your stomach, and eat lots of protein! She also told me to find out what my recommended daily intake for veggies should be and eat no less than that (which I still do). She made a point to let me know that just because something says it has no carbs DOES NOT mean that you can go to town on it, example: mayo, bacon, super greasy omlets, etc..

I can see the resentment for low carb here lol! It's ok, everyone has their own opinion on it. It just truly does not work for some people, but for me, it's the only diet that I can do and lose weight consistently. There's 2 main reasons for this 1) I was raised eating pretty healthy food when I was a kid, so that's what I crave..veggies cooked any style, fruit, fresh meats..sounds good to me! What some would consider "health foods", I consider a treat! I can eat what some people would consider a really healthy diet and never lose a pound! Don't know why, even with exercise...it sucks! 2) This diet is really not even like a diet at all for me! I love chicken, fish of all kinds, eggs, veggies..the list goes on...and on this diet, I can eat all of my favorite foods and still lost weight...which I love!! It just so happens that I love the foods on this diet...so it works!! It certainly won't work for everyone and it took a few tries to tweak it just right for me, but now, I've got it down!!

For today:
Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled, approx 1oz of cheese (0 carbs :) )
- 1 cup of steamed veggie mix (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) with a tsp of olive oil and seasoning (approx. 6 carbs)

Lunch - 1 can of albacore tuna with a small amount of chopped onions, a dab of mayo (to moisten), and less than a tsp of mustard (approx 2 carbs from the onions)

Dinner - not sure yet...something good!!

After dinner snack - probably a Carb Control snack of some type..hmm..a shake or bar..don't know yet

Food:
banana
grapes
cup of rice with baked chicken tenders, asparagus, onion, garlic, lime and yogurt sauce

I gained 4lbs since yesterday which I attribute to water weight. I didn't work out today but will tomorrow.

I did not get to the gym before it closed yesterday and it was way to smoky outside from wildfires to go walking, so no exercise yesterday. I will have to make up for it today.
So far today I have had one cup of coffee, one cereal bar, 1 yogurt, 1 med. apple, and a couple bites of chocolate cake (going to have to make up for that at the gym too). I will have either pork chops and salad or chicken and salad for dinner tonight.
So far I have had 0 weight loss, but I feel much better mentally. Gaining 30 lbs. after I stopped dancing is killer on my self esteem.

I don't know how much weight I wanna lose but I need to tone up a little!
I have already cut out gluten in the last year which has helped my ibs alot, it has also made me lose loads of weight, I have been doing the 30 day shred but I keep stopping and starting.
today I ate
Strawberries with greek yoghurt, brazil nuts and seed mix

Omelet with peppers and basic salad

Cod with creamy sauce and mashed potato and peas

No workout today was tired from work and first day of period but will start doing it again tomorrow.

I'm joining too!

Current stats: 5'9 150lbs (gained 7 pounds since my BA!)
Goal: 135ish

What I need to do:
Get back into working out 6 days a week. I do a lot of cardio, usually 45 minutes per day and alternate lower/upper workout days.
Quit drinking pop completely. Even one coke a day is bad news for me.
Cut back on my alcohol consumption. And if I do drink, drink lower calorie drinks. Vodka and diet or water.
Eat more raw fruits and veggies. I'm horrible with this. Grocery shopping with a 3 year old is a pain in the ass.

LOL, fruits, veggies, proteins, and regular exercise is what Atkins is all about! The starting phase of Atkins is strict yes, but that's mainly to break people's unhealthy addictions to crap food, like sweets, white flour, etc. The "Induction" phase is what scares people-but it's not meant to be a lifetime diet, it's meant to be the transition step to good habits.

I have a major sweet tooth, and after the first 3 days of the Induction phase, all of my sugar cravings went poof. I used to crave and binge candy/bread/pasta non-stop, and now after Atkins, I would much prefer having some homemade roast chicken or fruit salad.

After you've gotten through that initial induction phase, you add in "good" carbs, including whole grains. I actually eat more calories than I did before Atkins, and I drop weight like crazy. I do work out, but moderately-4 days a week doing 30 minutes cardio, 3 days a week strength training. My energy levels are absolutely ridiculous.

Here's a typical day of eating for me that follows the later phases of Atkins:

Breakfast:
2 eggs, scrambled, with cheese, broccoli, onions, peppers, and mushrooms
1 slice of whole wheat toast
Water with fresh squeezed lemon juice

Snack:
Cheese sticks or fruit w/peanut butter

Lunch:
A jumbo salad with tuna or chicken breast, full fat yummy dressing :)
Diet soda (my weakness)

Snack:
Greek yogurt mixed with some fresh fruit

Dinner:
Steak, chicken, or some other protein
Big side of veggies
More lemon water

Snack:
Cucumbers or carrots...I love cucumbers...I chop them up and eat them like potato chips while watching TV
Strawberries/blueberries

I have been doing pretty good this week.

Everyone keeps bringing me cookies and cakes and it has been a test of my willpower!

I have been doing much better with drinking more water.

I have been pre-packing food for the day and it makes it easier to stick to daily meal plans. Today in my bag I have 1 cereal bar, 1 med. green apple, 1 low cal yogurt, 5 saltine crackers, 1 can of tune in water to put on the crackers. and 1 lean pocket. I space this out throughout the day to eat (trying to eat every 2 hrs or so).

I will do my 2 mile walk with the dog (he can stand to lose a few pounds and tone up too :) ) then hit the gym this evening for 20 minute stair stepper, weights, and 30 minute elliptical.

For dinner I am planning salad, half skinless chicken breast, and steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower.

Also, make sure you are consuming your body weight in grams of protein EVERY day. So, if you weight 250 lbs, you need to be eating at LEAST 250 grams of protein each day, in order to maintain muscle and burn off the body fat. This can be difficult at first, but try to read the labels and keep track of this. As long as you are following this list of foods, it is not necessary to worry about carbs or sugars.

:O 250 grams?? i dont think that's right...isn't that way too much?

i dont think bodies can even absorb that much protein!

i'm not positive though so i can't say this is a fact
My trainer says 0.8-1g/protein per lb of LBM (lean body mass). So if you're 125lbs and 20% body fat the math is:
125lb x 0.20 = 25lb (this is how much of your body weight is pure fat)
125lb - 25lb = 100lb (this is how much your body weighs without fat - your LBM)

My trainer would say consume 80-100g of protein daily in this theoretical case. That's pretty similar to what JD mentioned.

Haven't been putting in the effort that I should have been :( I'm down 8 pounds since the 1st so I guess yay me, but I should be a lot further along by now. 12 pounds to go until I am somewhat happy with my weight. Originally I wanted to be within my ideal weight range by the 19th, bbuutt, since I have been totally half assing it for the last, like 10 days...I am pushing my goal date up a little to make things a bit more realistic in terms of actually reaching my goal.
Just an update
Starting Weight: 150
Current Weight: 142
Goal Weight: 130 or less
NEW date to achieve goal weight: June 27!!

So the game face is back on...after a few birthday parties and other events with way too many temptations, that I shouldn't have failed to avoid, threw me a little off track...I'm back on my diet and feeling confident about my further success!! I would be a lot closer to my goal weight if I had done the SMART thing and avoided all the alcohol and yummy food *SMACKS SELF IN THE FOREHEAD!!* BUUTT, no time to worry about that, just gotta make it work from here on out...wish me luck! I'll post some pics of my new and improved bod on the 27th...honest opinions on my pics are welcomed and appreciated!!

I think once you cut off dairy, you probably wont want to go back. The taste of it makes me gag now. I had whip cream last night by mistake and the after taste grossed me out. I also don't think I can ever drink milk again, the smell turns me off. Ick.

I never realized dairy was a negative in a diet. I would have a hard time giving up dairy. I eat yogurt and drink milk daily (my husband and I go through 2 1/2 gallons of milk per week). What do you all replace the calcium and vitamin D with?

In any case this week I have been traveling a lot and have not been working out. Just from taking a few days off I really feel sluggish. Tomorrow I will be back to my normal routine.

Today I have eaten yogurt and a granola bar. I still have an apple and some tuna in my bag for the day. Not sure about dinner yet, probably chicken breast and salad.

I'll join in~ I need some inspiration to keep me going.
CW: 154lb
GW: something like 115-120lb but idk exactly because of muscle mass and whatnot. My real goal is to have a waist measurement of 24"

I try following a slow carb diet, meaning no; grains, sugar, or dairy.
For the past week i've been going to the gym and doing cardio everyday (but what I do is different each day to keep me interested) and then weight lifting every other day.

But this week i'm on my period so I do nothing and pig out for at least three days :P
Hopping back on the train tomorrow though!

There are a lot of different dairy free milks out there that have calcium & vitamin D. Just gotta find which one you like. I like unsweetened Coconut Dream, Trader Joes's unsweeted Almond/Vanilla, & Pacific vanilla hemp(to make my shakes).

I'm in!
I was trying the raw food diet before I went away, and it's been difficult to be so selective in my eating when I'm not away, but I started using my ski tracker to measure how far I've been walking while fliering every night for my club. I quickly got to walking 20k every night, and when I get back home on the 30th I'm going to take up running too.

I don't weigh myself so my goals are to shave a little off my hips and tone up my stomach and butt. I'd love to get rid of cellulite too. But Im really hoping to turn running into a habit, a hobby so I can maintain a healthy body and attitude to my body, and maybe run with my mum when I see her.
