Yeah Bootsie, it happens for everyone. If it's really happening a lot (sometimes that's all I'll get for 10+ minutes, just one after the other, it's crazy) I'll check my cammodels link to make sure my page is loading right. If they're getting the wheel of doom they probably won't stay, you know?
If the chime drives you crazy you can turn it off. I have mine disabled partially because hearing 50 guys come in before one actually stays to say hi could get pretty demoralizing.

Well they let us delete photos now but you have to have "30 approved photos and 3 approved galleries". Lol SM.
So does that mean the guys gets lot of pics to looks and and for free?

Yes but I think you only have to upload that many pics if you want to delete other pics. Like you can't delete any pics unless you have 30 uploaded.
@Snowy0Star @Procrasturbator I thought it meant in order to delete pics you have to keep a minimum of 30 pics and 3 galleries. Like if you have 36 pics you can only delete 6. Either way I think its better to just be very selective/critical of the pics you upload.

Has anyone recently actually had luck with emailing support to change their model name? I emailed support once. They said no. I emailed Liz today and I'm waiting for a response. I really don't want to have to create a third account. I already had one for couples and when I went on alone people complained which led me to making my solo account. I don't want to throw away all that effort but its bothering the crap out of me because I was going to change my mfc and twitter name.

No, you can delete as many as you want. I deleted 1 whole folder and multiple other pics and I only have maybe 15-20 pics left now.

Weird...I just back and counted to make sure...but I only have 25 pics left in my gallery, so it let me delete more I guess.
Edited to add: I just tried to delete another and it let me...so now I only have 24 pics left but I have 6 galleries so maybe thats why?

I had a very frustrating thing happen to me last night when I was on. I had a client take me to exclusive chat. He was pretty quiet from the get-go but that is not the problem. We do couples chat and he said to just get right to it, so we began our show. The show lasted about 20 min. and he appeared to be online the entire time (never showed that he logged off or counted down etc.) When we were done with the show we asked him if he liked it...no response. Then we typed it in the chat box...no response. After a couple minutes waiting for a response, and feeling bad about possibly continuing to charge the person after our show had ended we decided to end the chat. Later when I checked the earnings, it showed that the client was only online for 5 min!!! How is this possible?
This is very frustrating. We gave a great performance to nobody basically!! has anyone ever had this happen to them before? I am sure it is just some kindof a glitch, but that was a good performance and $$ wasted.

For all you girls wondering why men on SM think its a dating service of some kind, it's because SM promotes their models on sites like socialsex.biz. This particular site which I was placed on is a dating site for women looking to hook up. I am pretty sure it's not even a real site but just created to drive traffic to certain cam sites. I was told by a few men that they saw me on there and asked about my photo shoot and how the weather was in minneapolis. I was like what the fuck, there was no photo shoot and this particular customer told me I was messaging him off of the dating site the day before. I was so freaking angry and told him it was fake, when i went to look at my profile on that site someone just made up a bunch of random shit about me and even said I was a republican!!! Ya right! It's just frustrating because we all have to constantly tell the men that were not prostitutes or looking for random hook-ups and then SM puts all of my information on a site like that!

I dont think they are so upset about dating traffic, more about the site making fake dating profiles on us. I personally don't like that either. They can use my images to promote the site by saying I cam, but don't set up a profile saying I want to fuck you in real life.

I know you're not supposed to ask questions here but I did a search and I KNOW I've seen it before here I just can't seem to find it now. Who do I e-mail to get like a break button and raise my rates and maybe to ask for some help getting the stupid encoder to work so I can do gold shows. I want to raise my rates and I hear people talking about like charging 7 and 9 a minute but mine only goes to $4.99 so I figure you must have to ask to get them raised or something.
Anyway if someone could point me in the right direction for who to email I would be forever grateful sorry that I seem to be having a stupid attack and can't find it myself.

I agree. That is how it should be, since it's a cam site. Focus on the fantasy and directing of shows.
I always loved their "direct your own porn" angle. It's honest and straight to the point, but it's also very appealing. I often wonder how they decide which advertisements to use, and how they track the success rate.

you just need to email support. and what trouble are you having with the encoder. support wont help you they're just going to give you some lame copy paste email saying its your computers fault nothing is working right and to upgrade it

For all those I emailed the regular support. They always helped me with everything. Their answers may be canned, and it may take 24 hours, but they did what I asked. I only like to bother specific persons if I want to do something that support keeps refusing to do and I know it is possible or something like that. Apart from that with the "less important" or "not so complicated" stuff regular model support is just as good. ;)

I can't think of anything more boner-inducing than political party affiliation. :D
Seriously, thank you for posting because usually that's the only way I find out. Customers sometimes tell me these stories too, and I just bite my lip because 1) I don't want to make the customer feel stupid for believing it, and 2) hey, it got the customer in my room, so I guess it's up to me to make the most of it. However, if my income begins to decline and all I'm seeing are these guys, then of course I will not be happy. Also, personal info/residential area info, etc. of the performer should be off limits, no question.
I do find it creepy that my image gets used this way, but I know that's part of the game, too. They make up some weird shit.

Well I have a very new computer with wiindows 8 and i7 processor. I've made several posts about the encoder on the boards but nobody has any solutions.
The software literally does not work. I open it and start trying to follow the instructions to set it up and as soon as I even move the mouse with the program open it freezes and I have to close it with the task manager.
It is the most frustrating thing on the face of the planet because everyone seems to think I'm actually getting it to the point where I log into streamate with it but I can't even get that far so yeah it's probably my computer but I can't upgrade it because it's pretty damn upgraded already LOL.
I don't know if it's a Windows 8 issue or what but yeah like I said most frustrating thing ever.

It's not that they are dating traffic, its more the site makes fake profiles on us on dating sites. Customers will say they loved our chat on such and such site and as you know it wasn't us that talked to them. Affiliates make fake Twitter and FB pages us on and it's just annoying. You should not pretend to be the cam performer, just promote the site.

Yeah, if you go on sites like sexyjobs they actually hire guys to pretend to be models. They hire them based on commission and all they need is yahoo messenger. They are given our links, and any photos that we may have. They chat with the customers for free and lure them into their "room". Once the customer signs up and spends, they get their cut. I agree, it's a little creepy but anyone can do it. All you do is use your live cammodel's link or your affiliate links from mtree.

So what if i make a guy come private and we talk about 'maybe' dating if we get along and like eachother etc then he later on realizes we are not going to meet and he reports me to site for tricking him into paid shows with the hope we are going to meet?
How will SM for example react on it? Is this not considered 'cheating the customer'? Cant this be considered 'soliciting' as site dont really know what i supposedly do with that 'customer'?
In order to pretend we meet these guys we need to exchange contact info, right? Which is against site rules. So how should this situation be solved? The risks are guys can get pissed off & report me for tricking them which might result in trouble for me with site, if i go on and make it look like i am going to date them i also risk towards site tos, how can i work around with the dating traffic then? Pls ladies who know better, can u elaborate pls?
JaneBurgess
10-24-2013, 09:29 PM
Exactly. I just don't understand it. They are basically soliciting for all of us by using our images and saying we want to hook up. If we actually said that and were turned in we would probably get suspended. I get you want to run ads for the site, but the ads should be clear it's a cam site and that you have the option to buy cam shows if you want more then just chatting. I also hate the ads that say free in them like twenty times. Only free chat is free, don't act like the whole site is free.
I for one don't like the dating traffic. I feel if we are all paying at least 65 percent then a portion of that should go to buy decent traffic. I shouldn't have to clarify that I am not looking for a fuck buddy or that I'm an escort 100 times a day. The traffic on the site has been cut in half since last November so clearly customers are not liking the site changes. I see customers complain on Twitter all the time that they can't stand all the freeloaders either. Unhappy customers will not come back and that effects us all.

Men like the art of the chase. Just because they say they want to meet you, doesn't mean they actually want to meet you. Many of them like getting off to the fantasy that you want to meet up with them.

Sales involve the clients knowing what you are selling from the start. By running ad's stating the site is free or that we want to fuck in person, that is the epidemy of false advertising. Hell it's also bait and switch since they run ad's saying the site is free and use pics and video's that show cam shows. It alludes that the cam shows are free as well, which they are not. Both are illegal and customers could sue if they chose to. Perhaps you don't see it as a serious issue but legally it is.
Plenty of traffic is brought in to the site from ads promising "Free shows". We don't give free shows, so does that mean we are tricking them? We can't control how the site is marketed. Just because they are directed from a dating site, doesn't mean that we have to talk about dating them. This is a sales job. It is about converting them into a cam customer. The same way we convert freeloaders into customers. The same way we convert guys wanting a free show into customers. We convert traffic into customers every day... if some of them are brought in from dating ads, it should not make a difference.
JaneBurgess

I wish it was that simple. Perhaps you don't get the pushy men that seem to not take no for an anwer so you have to block them. Many of these men have stated they feel cheated because they thought the site was a dating site or an escort site. If they would just leave when you said no that would be awesome but many of them don't. They either want to argue or turn really rude.
I think decent traffic is the traffic we had when they were buying traffic. Prior to 2013 and before the huge dip in traffic.
I don't know what you consider to be "decent" traffic. Traffic is generated from many different niches. BDSM, Fetish, - and even lonely guys who want someone to talk to. Many other niche's. All girls on the site specialize in different things. I don't see what the big issue is. If a guy requests something you are not interested in, it is easy to say no and he can find another girl who caters to his needs.
kortneykay
10-25-2013, 12:43 AM
I can see both sides. Jane obviously enjoys SM when the traffic is more to her liking like it was before. It has changed for a lot of people, but it's best to stick it out. It doesn't mean she should go elsewhere, especially if she's been on SM so long. I do believe in conforming. If a guy thinks I "tricked" him by entertaining the thought of meeting (aka bait and switch) then it is SM's sole responsibility and I don't feel I or any other models should be held responsible for that. I guess one could say, if you don't like the site, then go elsewhere, but at the same time, we can say, if SM doesn't want us leading on guys, maybe they or their affiliates should change how they advertise.
I'm all for people staying put where the money is, however, things change and it does suck if they aren't doing as well as they did before. The sites are really responsible if their site fails or not. Thankfully as models, we have options and we don't have to miss out on a payday. At the end of the day, we do have a choice in the matter though. We either suck it up and hope it gets better, adapt to a new hustle, or move on.

Not really if it hasn't worked at all since you got the computer. Now if it was working and then stopped I'd say it must be something that was installed right before it started messing up...but I have no idea what could be the problem on a new computer. Maybe try googling the exact error and see if there's a confict with flash.

Just curious, it's 7:45 am here and I am wondering how Streamate is going for you. I assume that if it is going well you aren't here O_o . But I am wondering if I should find something to do for a few hours or stick with it?
Also I know this is a stupid question but I am just curious, if someone asks to see the toys that I use in private is the correct response to boot them or ban them? Or do you just say, "I only show my toys in private?" I have noticed that whenever I do show them, they leave fairly soon after that and I have huge meat cannons for carpet bombing my tuna purse.

But the site itself is free and you're not going to get a legit show in free chat. So I'm confused how anyone could think they could get a "free cam show".
Car commercials advertise all the time that you can get this car for paying so much a month and in big bold letters it normally states "Interest free" but of course everyone knows that's not true and the disclaimer on the bottom of the screen in tiny tiny letters explains that.
I don't have a customer account but if it says in our contract that we are not to give out personal contact information, wouldn't it say something like that to them when they sign up?
Also, I don't understand how you could think something is free if it's asking for your credit card information. If they find one of these dating site ads, in order to actually come into the chat and talk to us, they have to make an account. It's not the cams website job to police the people who use it. Misleading someone isn't illegal.
Personally, I've never been bothered by someone who wants to meet and if they do, they normally take me exclusive and start asking. I never ever lead anyone on. I always explain I'm not an escort and I don't meet people and that the site rules don't allow that anyways. I've never had an issue and if they are really persistent, I just kick them and they don't come back, if they do that's what the ban button is for.
I'm not saying that using our images for dating ads isn't wrong but I'm also in agreement that if you don't like it, you don't have to stay. I'm sure if someone actually tried to do anything legal, they would find something in your contract that allows them to do what they're doing.

I had the computer for several months before I installed the encoder because I was camming solely on CB so I guess it could be something I installed before I installed the encoder. I'll do some digging. Thanks for the new lead. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out something else to try.

I think my biggest concern is my image. I'm not Streamate, I am a model on Streamate. There is a certain way I market myself/want to be seen and the dating site traffic doesn't jive at. all.
It's okay though! It's not like we haven't had these weird dichotomies before. GS vs. Non GS, TV vs. Non TV, Low rates vs. High rates, etc. It just takes a little adjusting and I like to bitch while I learn to run the mile. I had a 'gent' who poured about 50$+ on me and then straight up told me he refused to ever take me private again or leave my room until I gave him my number. I did everything I could in that pvt from the advice of the ladies to straight up saying 'NO'. I had to block him...just HAD to. It felt more like he was harassing me than I was hustling him...but that is OKAY! I'm fine with potentially losing out on money in this department because the stress is too much for me and ruining my image isn't worth it (not saying ya'll are ruining yours, but it WILL ruin mine). Or who knows? Maybe I'm doubling my money potential by doing what I do and getting guys who trust I won't lead them on? It's really weird, and there is no way around the conjecture. By staying on Streamate I am giving them the green light to do what they wish and I'm definitely still along for the ride!
tl;dr: Sink or Swim. There will always be some scenario thrown at us, just make your $$$ bbs and do right by you.
Thank you for the reminder to keep Streamates number handy.

EXACTLY! I've gotten to the point where I am done complaining about the slow traffic and how much these dating site traffic sucks. I play into them that they have a chance with me. I tell them I'm non-monogamous (Which I am). If they talk about meeting in real life, I say well lets get more acquainted in pvt and we can see if we are a perfect match! 30% of the time it works. If they become regulars, I treat them with the respect like I do with any others. Any ball SM throws at us, we need to work with what we have. I think that I'm being promoted on fetish site stuff specifically BDSM or dom dating sites. That's OK I guess because I think I've gotten good at JOI, CEI, and a number of other fetishes. It's just weird to get hit with it all bc I've only just recently started expanding from purely vanilla shows. Sink or swim!
