I am SO glad that you are smart enough to see my point. I can live with the dating traffic and conform, I just don't like the fact they make fake profiles pretending to be me. It's one thing to use our images to promote a site, it's another thing to use our images to impersonate us. No one should be impersonating any of us and it needs to stop. I do not want anyone to think I am going to meet them in person nor do I want them to feel cheated or tricked. I don't deserve to be cussed at when I decline a fuck meeting nor should I be yelled at that the site isn't a dating site. I'm not responsible for their ad's.
It also is annoying that if someone brings this up the solution some of you suggest is to leave. Why don't you suggest we should stop being impersonated? More performers seem to be pissed off about the dating profiles then the actual dating traffic. If it doesn't annoy you then so be it but don't tell other people they shouldn't be annoyed by it. I'm kinda tired of the same damn people on here always saying everyone is negative when really you are the negative ones. You don't let people vent on here, you make them feel like they can't honestly post their thoughts and you are the first to bitch at them.
I can see both sides. Jane obviously enjoys SM when the traffic is more to her liking like it was before. It has changed for a lot of people, but it's best to stick it out. It doesn't mean she should go elsewhere, especially if she's been on SM so long. I do believe in conforming. If a guy thinks I "tricked" him by entertaining the thought of meeting (aka bait and switch) then it is SM's sole responsibility and I don't feel I or any other models should be held responsible for that. I guess one could say, if you don't like the site, then go elsewhere, but at the same time, we can say, if SM doesn't want us leading on guys, maybe they or their affiliates should change how they advertise.
I'm all for people staying put where the money is, however, things change and it does suck if they aren't doing as well as they did before. The sites are really responsible if their site fails or not. Thankfully as models, we have options and we don't have to miss out on a payday. At the end of the day, we do have a choice in the matter though. We either suck it up and hope it gets better, adapt to a new hustle, or move on.

This is exactly how I feel. I worked hard to make an image that I am proud of. I don't want anyone to think I will meet them or fuck them in person. I have spent years stating the exact opposite. I have no issue conforming to dating traffic, but I resent making fake profiles on me stating things I would never say or do. I have been cussed at many times when I decline a meeting in person and I have been sent e-mails thanking me for the fun chat on Skype. As you guessed it wasn't me they were talking to on Skype. I just want to do cam shows plain and simple.
I think my biggest concern is my image. I'm not Streamate, I am a model on Streamate. There is a certain way I market myself/want to be seen and the dating site traffic doesn't jive at. all.
It's okay though! It's not like we haven't had these weird dichotomies before. GS vs. Non GS, TV vs. Non TV, Low rates vs. High rates, etc. It just takes a little adjusting and I like to bitch while I learn to run the mile. I had a 'gent' who poured about 50$+ on me and then straight up told me he refused to ever take me private again or leave my room until I gave him my number. I did everything I could in that pvt from the advice of the ladies to straight up saying 'NO'. I had to block him...just HAD to. It felt more like he was harassing me than I was hustling him...but that is OKAY! I'm fine with potentially losing out on money in this department because the stress is too much for me and ruining my image isn't worth it (not saying ya'll are ruining yours, but it WILL ruin mine). Or who knows? Maybe I'm doubling my money potential by doing what I do and getting guys who trust I won't lead them on? It's really weird, and there is no way around the conjecture. By staying on Streamate I am giving them the green light to do what they wish and I'm definitely still along for the ride!
tl;dr: Sink or Swim. There will always be some scenario thrown at us, just make your $$$ bbs and do right by you.

EXACTLY! I've gotten to the point where I am done complaining about the slow traffic and how much these dating site traffic sucks. I play into them that they have a chance with me. I tell them I'm non-monogamous (Which I am). If they talk about meeting in real life, I say well lets get more acquainted in pvt and we can see if we are a perfect match!
While I respect the personal choice you have made for yourself......some camgirls like me attract stalkers like moths to a flame.
I don't think leading people on (and in turn possibly threatening my own personal safety when they show up with flowers at my front door) should be a required part of the job, especially when it says in the contract that I have signed that I am not allowed offline contract. You send guys to me to ask to meet and send their information to me in chat and then my contract can be terminated for it? Not only that you are contacting these guys offline AS me so they come in to my room to ask these questions? Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot!
I get Streamate pretending to be a dating site. 100% behind that logic. But paying other people to pretend to be me and say that I will do things that I might not ethically, morally or even legally agree with? Not so much. Last I checked the contract I signed with them did not give them the ability to say that I agree to commit crimes. (Agreeing to have sex for money is a crime in my country.)
On the bright side, at least Streamate isn't as bad as cams.com. I've heard (and this may or may not be true so please correct me if I am spreading false rumours) that their contract says that if you sign it that you are legally required to say you are single.

I just kinda think that with a job in this industry you can either choose to go on a site that you believe has questionable practices or you can go indie. Like no one is forcing you to stay on Streamate and if you don't like how they run their business or the image that they promote of you then leave. You are choosing to stay and like Rosemary said, you staying there kinda gives them a free pass to do what they want.
The reason why this industry is the way that it is with its performers is because if you don't like it and take issue with it, well, deal with it or leave because there's a lot of people who don't have a problem with it or balance out the good and the bad. SM seems to figure that they have enough models that they don't really care if girls are leaving or complaining about the traffic or the fact that they do things that they don't like.
I mean, complain and hate it if you want. Or leave the site and work your ass off promoting yourself other places. Unfortunately the nature of this industry is exploitative to the performer because we are the ones doing the ACTUAL work yet we don't have control over the ways that they use our image. I don't have a problem with fake dating profiles or whatever set up for me because tbh, I really wouldn't do that kind of promotion on my own and get guys who just want to talk with me about the things that they would do etc.
So basically the reason why we're saying "leave if you don't like it" is because you agreed to the terms and conditions and you're still working for the site that does this and most of us have managed to be ok with it. If it's something that you're NOT okay with them just go elsewhere.
and JAC just because you lead a guy on doesn't mean that he has to show up at your door with flowers. Like I have a lie that I live in a different country and go out of my way to really keep up with this lie. The ones that want to meet never think that I live outside of the country that I say that I live in. They never know what "city" I live in. They don't know shit about me because they only know about the persona that I have as my camgirl self. So maybe work on a better lie if you're worried about people showing up at your door?

well I've been on there now for I guess about two years (though on and off). Sorry that you had someone stalk you... that's super shitty. I just think that in order for someone to really stalk you from off SM you kinda have to give a lot of info away but I don't know your circumstances.

Wtf my mouth just dropped open. Just...what the hell? I would be so mad. And yes, I'm sure they do a lot of this. :(
A few months ago one of the ladies here (can't remember the thread) went into detail about affiliates and the scummy things they do. This really opened my eyes. Cam girls, generally, have above average intelligence. Way above average - this is my belief. We would never pull stuff like this. What an asshole.
One of my best friends likes to say "The average IQ is 90, so that's probably what you're dealing with most of the time." Lol, harsh. And to be clear, I'm not saying this to be an elitist snob, but mmmm....so much incompetence out there.
PS I believe the post about affiliates was from Isobel, but I can't look for it now. Very well done.

I don't know her circumstances, which is why I said that I didn't. At the same time, I do think that it is possible to do shows like this and to have this kind of traffic without having people stalk you. Like my geoblocking isn't working right now due to some glitch so guys in my city (most of whom know who I am since I used to strip here openly and it's less than 50k people) can see me and could really have me saying to them "oh yeah I'm going to hook up with you in a hotel" but for the most part if you are careful then you shouldn't have a problem.
so my point is: I think that in order for someone to stalk you from off SM you kinda have to give a lot of info away but I don't know her circumstances.

So I was wondering, does anyone have a link to these dating sites that we are on?
JaneBurgess
10-25-2013, 04:06 PM
Exactly. I had to have Twitter and FB close down fake accounts. The fake me was booking Skype dates and taking money from people and also was setting up meetings. They also stole images off of my website, which really pissed me off. The link on the pages was an affiliate link from Streamate's affiliate program. I reported it but these assholes do it all the time. I've talked to other performers who said customers contacted them about why they took their money and never did the show or the date. That's making us look like scammers, when in fact we are the victims.

That happens to pornstars regardless whether they are on webcam or not. Its not a Streamate thing. If you have a lot of content out there (pics, videos) then that is inevitable because its easy for someone to make a fake profile and profit off it.

Its a Streamate thing when their affiliates are doing it all the time to multiple cam performers. I am well aware of content thieves, anyone with a site has that knowledge. Like I said the profiles all had affiliate codes for Streamate's affiliate program. Do you just pick and chose what you read and respond to or do you actually read the whole posting?

No, I read that and I am aware that affiliates do that. However, my point was that happens to EVERYONE in porn with enough content up to pull it off, but usually with things like skype and escorting. It happens regardless if you webcam or not.
JaneBurgess
10-25-2013, 06:30 PM
No it doesn't. A majority of stolen content ends up on tube sites for people to view for free. Most people that steal content don't take the time to set up fake profiles, fake IM's, fake e-mail addy's, etc. The fake impersonations seem to happen with cam affiliates way more then other kinds of thieves. No one said it didn't happen a lot in porn. Are you now claiming to be the expert on content thieves? It must be so nice to be an expert on all things adult industry related.

No it only happens when the same group of performers come on and try to school everyone. They can't let anyone have their own opinions without trying to dismantle them or prove them wrong. They have been told MANY times to worry about themselves and let other people express what they want to express.
On a completely different note, every time I have a kind of slow week, SW gets a lot more dramatic. Is it just a coincidence? Do you suppose I can use the level of drama here to decided how much I want to try on cam?

I'm really not trying to argue with you about this, but I follow a bunch on tumblr and people allllllways "ask" them questions all the time (and these are the ones they choose to answer!_ like: "are you talking to me on facebook right now???" I just started today and it started out kinda crappy with some abusive people in my free chat. Banned 2 people within my first five minutes. Then this guy wanted to go private so I cancelled my gold show for him and naturally he leaves the chatroom.
Well I decided to ban him and then he pops back into my free chat so I took that opportunity to ban him and then the box pops up that asks if I also want to ban him from private messages. Then the next thing I know I am in private with him. Afterwards I decided to unban him but I cannot see that he has actually been banned and the bans appear to be in chronological order so he should be the first banned user on the list but hes not there.
O_o ?
I am considering banning people who ask if I squirt.
I haven't had a drink in over a month but here's to good friends, tonight is kinda special O_O . I will be sure and take my drink with an anti-oxidant.

Hey guys! Remember me? :)
Well, I've been away forever, and it wasn't a good idea. I haven't been on SM for about 3 months now, and I desperately want to come back. However... it seems to be a big problem. I tried getting back online for the first time earlier today; I was on the 10th page and only had this one old favorite memeber in my room.
I really, really don't know how to approach this situation. Should I just open a new account? It seems like such a waste, because even though prior to leaving, I've only been on SM for a little over 2 months, I gained a nice amount of favorites and a couple of regulars. If I start over, it will all be gone. OTOH, how do I make things work again with my old account, being on the 10th page and all?! It's such a catch-22. And even IF I wanted to start a new account, who said SM would allow it? Hmm.
I need your help and experience in that matter. And, either way -- it's great to be back!

If it wasn't for Stripperweb and all you amazing ladies I would never even have known I had tags. Thank you.
And as far as I can tell anyone can tag you regardless if they have ever spent a dime on you or not. Correct me if I am wrong about this please. Personally I think tags are one of the dumbest things Streamate has come up with so far.
Oh... I had a guy ask me if I had any kids so I told him I had eight kids. Then he wanted to know if I had ever had sex with any of my children. I'm not religious but sometimes I feel like a global Apocalypse might actually be a good thing.

I am glad you brought this point up. I think it is an important to talk about the many ways that people can stalk you on the internet without you giving away a single piece of information about yourself.
In order to keep it light and interesting, here is a talk called 'How I Met Your Girlfriend'. It is a Facebook hack where the speaker demonstrated the ability to extract extremely accurate geo-location information from a Web browser, while not using any IP geo-location data.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEmO7wQKCMw
Even simpler, if you don't strip data from your smartphone pictures before you tweet them it is quite possible you are revealing your geotagged location through hidden metadata.
These are just a few example of how easy it would be for someone to stalk you without you ever giving them any information at all.

Just wanted to add, in case anyone is doing the same thing as me. For awhile I was just looking at the number of tags to see if I had any new ones (I have a LOT so it was easier this way) but if someone untags you or if their account is closed and their tags disappear, it's possible to get new tags at the same time thus having your overall count remaining the same (does that make sense?). I realized this when the "ugly" tag popped up out of nowhere and my overall count was the same.

Tweeting pictures and geotagging.
I only remember this from an episode of Catfish but that is something extremely important to remember.
It is so ridiculously easy to look up where said picture was taken and sent from.

Question....is there a way I can look at myself in the Encoder AND look/type in my chat room? Its so annoying clicking back and forth to make sure I have the right angle in a prvt.
:(
Keep the size of the encoder to half of your screen size and the SM page to the other half size of the screen.

Hey ladies quick question I finally set up my twitter but my cammodels link was having issues it wouldn't let me do it with an underscore so my link is red_Roberts.cammodels.com wouldn't work so I tried just redroberts.cammodels.com and it worked but it doesn't take the person directly to my page just the site which is fine I just want to know if I'll still receive my percentage if they sign up on this link?? Can anyone help greatly appreciated.
Red, my cammodels link is the same, it also has an underscore. You can't use it in your main profile box on twitter for that reason. You will not get the percentage if they don't go to your exact link so what you have to do is basically just use your cammondels links in your tweets and it will let you use the underscore. I attach my link to all my "going on cam" tweets and with my pics. The link itself will work when done within an actual tweet. Hope that helps!

You can also go to tinyurl.com and convert your link for twitter. That's what I did.

No problem, I know it sucks. In retrospect had I known this I would have made my name different, but I think you have to make a whole new account in order to change your name on SM. But I've gotten several referrals on my cammodels link regardless so I'm not that worried. Good luck! :)

For some reason, i cant make it fit into the other half of the screen. Its only letting me downsize it a little. and whenever i click in my chat box to type, the Encoder program completely minimizes. *woe is me*

Right above where your image is on the encoder, you'll see an arrow I believe. Click on that and you can minimize your image to 50%. Then minimize the actual window so that you can size it down.

Thanks for the suggestions. but it didnt work. The window still wouldnt get smaller. Must be my laptop or something.
This was a little helpful: "Click on one of the screens and then press the windows key and the left button at the same time.
Click on the other window then press on the windows key and the right button at the same time.
The two windows should now be side by side."
Thanks again ladies
