True. Men will always find a way to pay for sexual content.
My money skyrocketed during the worst of Covid. Unfortunately I didn't work as much as I should have due to being depressed on the state of the world.
It's comforting to know that the money was still there to be made even during that major crisis.

There is not much to adapt when you have to pay 1000 in energy bills and people have to sit in a freezing home and there is no money for food. I dont think people understand how dire the situation is.
Adapting will mean that there will be people here who are going to lose their lives.
I said this same thing a few months ago and I got responses like "In my 15 years of camming vices have always been recession-proof."
This isn't a recession. This is a depression. Here in the United States a can of pumpkin went up in costs 300% in two weeks.
Yes there has always been freebie losers and beggars. But you're right. I haven't had a European customer in almost two months.
That's why I'm building up my other stuff. I tried to say a long time ago that the trend is pushing more towards affordable porn like on OF.
I use to have a Skype client (US based) that would drop $260 on me weekly. He hasn't done it in three weeks. I checked on him and he openly admitted he's struggling way too much and had to stop.
You're 100% right Aurora. Girls can say all they want to that "vices are recession proof" but we've never had inflation like this before, to where prices are going up 600%+ in some situations in a few months

That can will be on sale after Canadian and American Thanksgiving is over. They always soar before the holidays because people want pumpkin pie.

What about the sugar? My tub of sour cream? My korma sauce? My korma sauce at ALDI use to be $1.19. It's now $2.89 and that was just last year. Two years ago that same can of pumpkin was 79 cents. Even during November. It's like you're denying inflation right now.
Gas has tripled. Propane has doubled. Dollar tree is now $1.25 and you're like "that can of pumpkin will be cheaper after the holidays."
What's your reasoning for the rest of it?

Everything is going up even more soon. I own a tow truck business with my husband and we depend on diesel for our trucks. Watch diesel go up after the election in November. With diesel being the lifeblood of transport, everything else will be going up.

Inflation is definitely a thing. However where I am at least salaries are also rising so it isn't increasing the cost to income amount as much as it might seem at first glance. Here any HS kid can get a job doing fast food and make $16-$17 a hour and everywhere is hiring. If a adult has job experience and even a semi decent resume they can make considerably more. That certainly wasn't the case 4-5 years ago.
I may be looking at things overly rosy but I believe things will work out overall. Streamate has been glitching, having support problems, random bouts of deadness, allowing absurd things in chat, and generally being a pain in my backside for a considerable amount of time so honestly I think the issues there are more management than the economy.
Best wishes to all <3.

This is not about a can of pumpkin pie. I am trying to explain you guys the gravity of the situation, because believe it or not you are next. To make it clear: Gas here is 10/gallon. Energy bills are between 500 and 1000$ for a MONTH. I heard stories of children fainting in class because parents cant feed them anymore. The situation here is dire and no, our governments are not helping us out, because US people always think that thats done, its not.
Me and my husband are above middle class and we cant even afford to turn on the heating when its gets colder. Let that sink in for a minute, please.
Im sorry if I sound harsh, I also want to WARN you all. The USA is NEXT. As long as there will be an pointless war with Ukraine, there will be sanctions. And because of Covid bailouts the money printer was turned on: hence inflation.
And NO, its not simply a matter of changing job. Yes, for fastfood workers, but our VALUED customers are mainly accomplished men, middle to upper middle class and above. The LOWER class has it easier in my country: THEY are getting bailouts to compensate for higher prices on electricity. The middle and upper middle class are going to topple. They cant and won't simply switch jobs. Educated personnel is often tenured here, so Starting a new job in a time like this is actually more risky than staying put where you are and getting a guaranteed paycheck, a risk many don't want to take, especially if they have wife and kids at home. And employers arent exactly giving out raises like hot candy , believe me.
People are going to go bankrupt. People are going to die. And if you don't believe me, that's on you, but dont say nobody warned you. I know its an uncomfortable truth. Im not saying camming is going away. Im saying its going to be hard.

This isn't a recession, banking crisis or stock market crash. This is a depression and everybody except the wealthiest 1% are going fucking down. Im trying to warn people bc the USA is next but people dont want to listen . The system is going to collapse.
A lot of USA guys are still spending because they are probably either rich or on credit card debt, but when they come collecting its not fun either.

The economy was discussed earlier this year in many threads and I can accept the fact that it may certainly factor in. I had a few regs message me that they need to cut back earlier this summer. That is something we cannot control.
However, the point of my previous post was that it seems that something is "off" with the site- like a tech issue---, as far as customers commenting they cannot see me, zero potentials despite turning off geo blocks, etc, etc. I was doing great about a month ago. Then very suddenly things changed from 1 week to the next. Almost like a "switch" was turned off on my account and perhaps others? Like a possible website tech issue?
Clearly, others are still making money and certain rooms tend to still be full. Not bragging but I usually do pretty good (top 80-150) in contests and the last one did not place at all. Unreal- out of 1200, I did not place at all but did great the week before (had my highest earnings the week prior). How can that be?? Has anyone experience a sudden shift like that? Again, wondering if it is a technical change that SM has made that has negatively affected certain accounts? I just cant figure it out...we might never know. Thanks for the vent.

Ok sorry not try to derail this. I can take it down if need be.
Thanks
I kinda thought it might've been taken over by another company?
I get checks, different bank addy but maybe they just changed banks, I've noticed also a big drop in customers, but inflation, the summer, etc too could be part or all of that.

I understand. I totally get it. Russia has cut off the gas spigot because Europe won't let him just barrel through Ukraine, then on to Poland, Latvia, etc, and all the former Soviet Union states. I am hoping that the big turn in the war in the last week will make Putin withdraw his troops, though that won't solve the energy crisis over there.
I'm sorry things are so bad over there.
We also need to start preparing for more weather-related problems. Until we stop burning fossil fuels, we're gonna see more heat waves, fires, etc. I don't think preppers were so silly now.

Catching up here. We got the other model's dooms day comments over several thread replies. With all the warnings she gave, I'm still puzzled at what that accomplishes? You want models to work or not? You want to give models a reality slap to motivate them or demotivate them into providing for themselves? This is a thread about working SM. In the best of times and the worst of times us models are still going to work so cheers to that.
SapphireXO

Also before I get a snarky reply, I'm not tone deaf. I understand what you are personally experiencing and witnessing in Europe. I do understand your worry. If I concentrated on every single developed country in the world with access to the Internet (which COULD effect our income), their political unrest, their economic pitfalls, their debt-to-GDP ratio, the possibility of government default, their ability to access adult websites, their average income to USD or EUROS, every countries inflation rate, possible currency collapse - It could go on and on and on and on and on - I would be too consumed in statistics and worry to even possibly hedge my bets in doing something positive for myself like working in SW. It would be all consuming focusing on the world's stage.
Please be mindful how your dire warnings can effect models here. You may be thinking you have to share just how bad it is in every corner of the world, or just in one area of the world like Europe, but those warnings can make models shut down, feel doomed, and then nothing positive comes of the news you shared. I think you wanted to encourage models to work harder in worry of money opportunities being limited in the near future but even I am unsure what you were trying to accomplish reading over the fury of replies.

I just tried to upload a recorded show to SM to sell and it says "Rejected: Copy of livestream content." It's been a while since I've uploaded videos there, but the ones I have are recorded privates/exclusives/gold shows. Are those not allowed anymore? I thought that was the whole point of recording our shows, so we could continue to profit from them.
Just an update for any others who may have had this issue. I contacted support and they said the rejection was done in error, and the video is now active in my store.

same, i haven't streamed in 8 days due to a week of health issues (west coast wildfires knocking me on my ass, i'm very sensitive to smoke pollution) but am getting ready to log back on tonight. trying to go in with a positive/open mind even though i know there's football, death of the queen, the recession/economy, all the things... ugh. though i did peruse the "camming rocks" thread and there were at least a few instances that were recent and SM-related.
fingers crossed i don't have any major glitches tonight and traffic is reasonable.

I'm trying to stay hopeful. Last week I just couldnt mentally get it together and my Fibro flare caused such intense migraines that I was worthless for anything.

I have been camming for four years now and what I can tell you is there will always be people complaining about traffic or the site no matter what time of year or site. If you are consistent and put in the hours, get feedback where you need about what to improve, and go on in a good mood, you will make money.
fortunately this board has a lot of positive models in it, as well as some other ones! (Like stay the fuck on and challenges). If you focus on the negative comments, it will pull you down. I’m not typically a “just be positive” person. But with camming if you don’t keep a positive attitude, it’s a hard cycle to get out of because then-
men won’t want to hang/chill
you make less money
you get upset about traffic…. And the cycle continues.
I still get stuck in this cycle some days, but I always recognize when Im in it and don’t let myself blame the site.

A lot of what I read about SM gives sweat shop vibes. I walk with just $70 if someone tips me $200? I feel like that would be very demotivating. But it really seems that a lot of performers swear by SM and stick with them? What are the redeeming qualities? Do you still make out well given such a low cut?
It is demotivating. And I'll never defend sm percentages.
What I will say is that it's a simple matter to make $500+ on that site in one shift. So it makes it worth it, sort of.
Just as long as you don't imagine what you could have made if it weren't for the cut.

Like the majority of work under a capitalist society, there will be an exploitation of our labor. Unfortunately they do take a larger cut than most big sites, but I would rather have the flexibility and earning potential of sm vs most other jobs I would qualify for. Also I make more money on sm than any other site I tried. You may get a smaller piece of the pie, but the pie for me has been bigger.

i would like to bring to everyones attention that we work in a business with virtually no start up costs, very low investment costs to start its not like we need to dump $40,000 into a amazon shop and be lucky to make 1k profits. or opening a retail shop, or a restaurant. pretty much any business requires huge capital.
hell just turn on shark tank and see how hard it is to turn a profit and how much blood sweat and tears go into these start up businesses.
or any other business for that matter requires huge capital to kick start and slim margins.
we have been provided an opportunity to have a web cam, a toy and a lap top turn it on and make profit.
as i search for other income streams reality really reminds you of how hard it is to make a business and how many require steep investments and low returns .
i am not defending sm % however you do need to keep in mind they need to pay affiliates, they need to pay model referrals, advertising costs, servers , staff internationally across the globe
and corporate taxes, lawyers, contest prizes ect ect plus the investors who took risk and invested in this business how much capital they had to fork over and the risk they took.
we just see our side but i really have been ironically reflecting the past few days on how this is a gravy train and i am blessed to be able to turn on a computer and make money.
i would also like to mention for those who may just think "oh she makes bank so easy for her to say" id like it to be known that i started making very low $$, literally $200 in a good week @ 15 $ an hour . and worked my way up .
id say streamate is a far cry away from exploiting workers or taking advantage or fucking us over with a low %.
id go as far to say that streamate has changed my entire life and i wouldnt be where i am today if it wasnt for them. and for liz for that matter.
my only bone to pick with sm will ever be that models lose their accounts too easily and can get shut down. thats literally my only issue.

By "exploiting our labor" I mean in the Marxian sense. This is just what happens in any job under capitalism. If you're interested in learning about it, there's some great videos on youtube about class consciousness :) I agree out of any job in our society, online sex work is one of the least exploited (profit wise)!

A lot of what I read about SM gives sweat shop vibes. I walk with just $70 if someone tips me $200? I feel like that would be very demotivating. But it really seems that a lot of performers swear by SM and stick with them? What are the redeeming qualities? Do you still make out well given such a low cut?
I was on SM for years and that was one of my biggest issues with the website. Yes, I did make money, but for every 300K I made I was taking home 90K and SM 210K. And yeah, 90K is a lot of money, nobody is doubting that. But then again, I made them double of what I made myself. For a while I tried to lie myself and settle with it, oh, they invest in traffic (tell that to a low income girl), oh, they invest in paying the models (tell that to performers in Europe that didn’t have the option for international transfer until a couple of years ago, that were forced to use sketchy paying methods), oh, they are very fair (tell that to models that never got penalized for breaking the rules or Asian/Eastern European/Latin performers that are being paid 30% instead of 35%, just because they can be xenophobic, again it’s a 5% that goes in their pockets for no reason), oh, they are reliable (tell that to models that have lost shows and clients cause of the technical issues or models that had all their shows posted online for “marketing”, all cause they know no other way of promoting).
It wasn’t worth it for me anymore, so I choose to quit and run my own thing. I feel like you need to draw the line somewhere and have boundaries for what you let others profit of your work. And I’m not saying that in a bad way, all websites will profit, it’s natural for the employees and employers to have a cut.
Now if you need urgent money or want not to worry much about any form of promotion, it can be a quick way to make some $$. But on the long run, I feel like you might have better options. Again, I retire how important it was for me mentally to feel comfortable with my %.

I mean yes, 30-35% is pretty low compared to other sites. But what do we have out there with better %? Myfreecams, Chaturbate, Stripchat are not for everyone, i feel like Streamate is the only premium site left there, correct me if im wrong. As for 30% for Eastern European/Asian models, most of those countries dont file taxes, i would take those 30% over 35% on a heartbeat if i didnt have to pay good cut to IRS:)

THIS.
Any version of “be grateful and shut up” doesn’t work for me. The percentage cut is most definitely robbery.

I agree! I worked in retail management for years and being able to take off whatever days I want and not put up with customers yelling, threatening and even throwing stuff at me at times is such a relief!
Same here hun *hugsS* At least online we can ban those peoples!
we have been provided an opportunity to have a web cam, a toy and a lap top turn it on and make profit.
as i search for other income streams reality really reminds you of how hard it is to make a business and how many require steep investments and low returns .
100% What other jobs are like that? Being a waitress .. most jobs require so much now, same with a business. If anyone thinks they can make a site better than these sites and run it better for us than please do. But I know I cant
And we can invest in it or not. Everything is up to us . All the choices. I have not modelled for anyone else where I had the control like that

That’s none of their business. No website should care what models do with their check.
Oh, you’re from Azerbaijan, so you don’t pay taxes, therefore you don’t need 5%, so give it to us instead.

LiveJasmin offers 30-80%
XLoveCam offers 50-70%
MyDirtyHobby offers 30-50%
Cams.com offers 32-100%
ImLive offers 30-100%
Naked offers 40%
SecretFriends offers 50%
Camdolls offers 40%
This is just in case anyone out there truly feels limited to SM and wants to look into other premium sites.
But since this IS an SM thread I'll re-iterate that you can make good money with them still. Percentage is ass tho.

i feel like focusing on percentages misses the point. the question you should be asking is what site is best for your hustle/preferences that allows you to hit your financial goals? working for a site that offers a high payout but garbage cheap traffic isn't better than working a site that brings in consistent spending traffic with a lower payout. i generally like the traffic SM brings, it's a much more chill vibe than a token site, and i prefer the smaller group shows and one-on-ones. i've been on SM for 8 years and in general i can hit my goals if i put in the effort, so that's why I stick around despite some low periods.
to me working on a token site where you get a "higher cut" on paper but have to constantly be in performance mode in front of hundreds more freeloaders (not to mention the fact that guys are throwing literal nickels at you) would likely be way more "demotivating" to me, but to each their own. also note, you have the ability to earn up to 75% on SM if you bring your own traffic. and you are in complete control of your rates so you can charge as much as you feel you're worth.
at the end of the day if you don't like the cut, then don't work for SM. it's pretty simple, and you have plenty of other options to try. frankly i think it's rather amusing that your theoretical example of pocketing $70 from a $200 tip gives you "sweatshop vibes"... as if voluntarily sitting around in your underwear and taking money from guys with disposable income is at all comparable to working a low wage job in poor working conditions, lol.

I get you 100%. That's why I'm leaning towards it being a no for me. Their business decisions seem to skew too heavily in their own favor and not enough in the interest of the models and performers. I do hear that it's one of the more surefire sites to make money...but at what cost?
I'm also thinking to go as indy as possible, any tips or advice you may have is welcome and appreciated :) Thank you again for such a candid answer.
