what "industry standard"? SM is a private-based/pay to play site so you have to compare apples to apples here. SM is clearly the leader in that regard; the other ones erika mentioned either have garbage traffic, pay an even lower percentage, or do not cover chargebacks. (edit: and if there are other/newer ones i'm unaware of that are actually worth checking out, i am all ears!)
sure, token sites technically pay out 50% but the level of shitty freeloader traffic is insane. to me it seems way harder to convert a good paying customer on a token site than it is on SM. and fansites/indie directories might pay 75-80% but you're on your own for driving and sustaining your traffic.
You can earn just as much or more on token sites, wether you do privates or not (and I’ve gotten a good share of privates on there in my few months so far) they cover chargebacks so what sites dont that everyone keeps mentioning?

SM main competitor is LiveJasmin. LJ offers between 30% to 80%, depending how much money you make. So for $1000 your commission would be 45%, which is more than what SM offers.
I have never worked on LJ, but many Europeans do and are able to bank there. So yes, by industry standards they are under their competition.
Another mention would be Flirt4Free, which offers between 27%-50%, depending how much you make.

Yeah I'm pretty sure most sites cover chargebacks, except Live Jasmin

that's good to know, i wasn't aware of the LJ pay structure. i've mainly avoided it because i've heard of other models getting flat out rejected upon signup for discriminatory bullshit like age or not having a specific look, and that their rules/standards are way more strict than SM (not to mention new models are required to stream for a minimum amount of hours at some offensively low rate that you can't change)... so one upside to SM is no major contingencies like this. however i just went over the LJ thread on here - it seems like they got new ownership last year, and models are commenting that it's a bit more relaxed now. so maybe worth a shot but still sounds like quite a hassle.
i'd be very open to SM getting rid of contests/bonuses and restructuring to a tiered payout system based on earnings, but i seriously doubt they'll ever consider it.

Tiered payout system would be awesome! I honestly can’t get behind them taking so much of my money! I’m literally baring my asshole to these dudes and getting paid hundreds and only see a fraction of it. Not cool! Instead of contest weeks and “bonuses” (read: refunds) they should just even out the score and give us more of our money all the time

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say they need to take 65% of EVERY models earnings to cover chargebacks. There are plenty of sites that don’t take 65% and still cover chargebacks. It’s a bit of a reach. I get girls like the site because of the traffic but let’s be honest, Streamate is taking advantage of us with that high of a cut into money we worked for. No models, no cut for them.
the no chargeback is just a safety net that is nice to have as a model. its not a big deal but it is that week a model stays in exc for a hour and 3 months from later she got hit with a 1k chargeback.
They have to pay affiliates and Models get paid extra if someone signs up using their link.
they pay employees that keep the site running, i think there are 2 or 3 locations, legal ... all that good stuff that keeps the site going and of course the owner(s) didn't get in the biz to be broke

token sites are cool but most are a free for all and a lot of work
this is from my first post
affiliates are important and models that have cammed cams, imlive, ifriends (closed down) can agree theses sites promoted hard at first but now I don't see squat and models get the piddly traffic left over.
cams.com doesnt even make it easy to cam, damn obs, all that drama just to cam a dead site. and none of those cover chargebacks.

LJ is worth it
I was blackballed for pissing off someone that I guess was important over a check number back in 2010 lol
it was a nice side site. it seems to have improved a lot too. i dont hear many models making much negative over it

Hello. On Lj members wont pay more then 299 . 399 per min. Thats the main reason i dont get on there. They ask for profesional pics and videos. They wont accept webcam or phone content.

Big premium sites are also LiveJasmin and Flirt4Free but both have deals with studios (especially Studio20), that's why many europeans do well there. I'm not saying you can't make money there, yes you can, but just have in mind that many girls have the best traffic and best placement already set because they work for a partnered studio in Romania or Colombia.
One site that has a lot of traffic and is growing nonstop is Stripchat but yeah you gotta do it all on freechat :-( privates almost never happen

Question: Is the bonus added now onto our earnings or only if you do 25h or make the goal? Or maybe my math is off. I charge $9.99 and my pvt was 1.18s got a peeper. I made $4.54. 35% is $3.49.

thats such a long time. How has camming changed since then? A lot I guess. I was told in the 2000's everyone was making tons of money.

You need a minimum of 25 hours and $250 this week. If you don't each either there's no bonus. The bonus will be added in your next payout

I have been on SM since January 2009. Everytime a guy came to your free chat they tipped minimum $2... I rarely had a customer who didnt tip and I don't recall all these ins and outs. It was a literal gold mine, the only cam site i ever tried in 20 years that I thought was the Bees Knees. There wasnt too many disrespectful guys that I encountered but that was my experience. I feel like it changed when PORN HUB became a white label and the introduction of Gold Shows and the Lush Vibe. Now men are accustomed to tipping $1 and don't want to go to private as much. Again, that is my experience.

I do agree with you 100% on every word you just said. Even when gold was first introduced not so bad constant back to back private shows, now it’s starting to seem amd feel like a token site but much worse. I had a mental breakdown and didn’t cam for like 2 years and the past year back, not the same site. Couldn’t have said it better myself

Which cam sites cover charge backs if you don’t mind me asking? I wanna sign up on other sites, but I refuse to go on a site that doesn’t cover chargebacks.

I was getting dressed after doing an exclusive show, and I didn’t realize that the timer went out while in the middle of putting my underwear on. I was lying on my back, holding my underwear trying to fix it with my legs a little bit open. There was literally no one in my room. No guests and no potential members. It was completely empty. I think you could see a little bit of my pussy, but it’s not like I had it all up in the camera and it was clear I was putting my underwear back on. When I looked up at the camera, I saw it and immediately cut off my stream. I’m scared now that I’m going to get an email later today saying that my account is banned. It was an accident and like I said there was literally no one in my room. I don’t even know why the timer went out that quick. I’m so paranoid now.

I'm still trying to figure that out. I am thinking about doing a token site like chaturbate. Honestly somewhere that doesn't do contests.
I wouldn’t mind streamate‘s contests if they were just like this bonus week this week. You don’t have to worry about competing for a spot to earn a certain amount of money. It just depends on how many hours you work and how much you earn. Then, regardless, you will get some type of bonus. If the weeklong contests were like that every month, then I’d be fine with that

That's when I started too.
I was at a Naked.Com studio, (and hating every minute of it). One of the models suggested that I try Streamate.
She said that the customers were very polite.
And they were.
Nowadays, oh the irony.:-\

It's ok. I did the same thing except I was in a show and didn't hear them cut out. I forgot I had muted the audio. Had my ass in the air for awhile then I cut it off. I sent a message to support and tattled on myself and said it was a total accident. They sent me back a reply and said no biggee and thanks for reporting it. Send a message if you can with the details. It can't hurt. You should be fine

Bruh, nah SM's updates are just confusing. I too almost got shoved back in free totally unwarranted. Just gotta remember to hit the pause/break button which is barely visible and I no longer hear the clients end the show. There was major lag last night as if everyone was 1 min behind before the site refreshed. Shaking ass and saying hi to people who left 60s before.

glad it’s not just me. I’m usually good at hitting the pause button, but I thought I’d be able to get dressed fast enough within the time. I was so certain that I still had about 15-20 seconds left, but when I looked up I was in free chat already! Now, after every show, I just hit the pause button regardless. And no matter what position I’m in I’m constantly watching the screen. Just to make sure that I catch when they log out of the show. I can still hear when a client logs off luckily. Honestly, 30 seconds is not enough time to get yourself situated to go back into free chat.

One easy way is to turn the cam to the wall as soon as the show finishes just to make sure you dont get caught out, I do this every single time. If people are in my room I just talk to them while I am getting dressed.

lmao it is a long time for one website. i feel old when i tell ppl how long ive cammed but i love it so it doesn't feel old.
as far as sm a lot of change since i started there.
The biggest change is tech. when sm introduced "hd" and we had to stream using adobe encoder. That is when we really needed quad cores, i7 and preferably a desktop over a laptop. models had pure meltdowns bc if we lost connection it was a lost gold show or exclusive block. it always happened for me in goldshows. i feel like a lot of us stayed online 24/7 bc of the tech issues and we knew the money was there.
I have a graveyard of laptops under my bed bc of the adobe encoder. It would fry a laptop if it wasn't powerful enough
the models have changed all around, sm was mainly petite, pretty, the whole preppy porn girl on page 1 and now its a mixed variety
goldshows at first were only given to the top models and then it was given by equipment and speeds bc they needed us to hold a stream. now i think its just 5stars and models get it or it could be there, idk
all of us hated those at first, seeing another make bank bc they had the gold show option stirred more hate and back then lol models trolled the fuck out of each other, take it twitter, complain to sm support (i think half the reason support doesn't deal with us is bc they know we can come w some drama, that's just my thinking)
white label was not a option for models. i had tried but was denied bc i wasnt a pornstar, didn't have huge following on social media and didnt have my own website (that was also the requirement for top rows status as a model)
but another affiliate referred me and got me in. and then they built cambuilder, the affiliate side of streamate.
that fuckntip toy. all of sm models hated it bc we hate tipping sites like mfc and knew our site would end up going that route. sm smodels started using it. I was mortified lol how dare they make money faking a orgasm (when the whole goal is to make money, i was just being a spoiled brat lol) we didn't have the software for tip toys and alot was faked so it pissed me off.
sm relaxed the rules A LOT as far as what can do in free chat. we couldn't show tits and if we did we had to have permission and it was only for gold lol that was a huge no. if another model caught it, she'd screenshot and send to support lol
we were so petty over tits. :)
the model community.. it was so much smaller. everyone seemed to know everyone. now its like who the fuck are you? who are all these new ppl? GO AWAY!!!! lol
its grown in a good way, the more models the more customers and i think camgirls are more mainstream. back in the day say "Im a camgirl" and ppl would be confused lol
One time i found a forum, (not sure if its here or another website) that talked about sm dropping the % on models from 50% to the 35%. ill try to find that forum post but it was earlyyyyy 2000s..
i want to know the history of girls that started in the 90s with yahoo groups, no big box websites and what they have seen change...

As someone that works on OF and was able to give up SM, I can tell you chargebacks aren’t as usual as those platforms make it seem (for the record, OF doesn’t cover them, its deducted from my earnings).
In my opinion, is another “excuse” for their low %. SM would block you right away if your chargeback was a few percentages of your earnings, so that says everything you wanna know. I know of a few people that have been cause of fraud.
In 14 months on OF I’ve lost $390 to chargebacks. If that amount would been over 1% of my earnings, I’d be blocked.
So yeah, SM might cover you a couple hundreds per month with their chargeback protection, but they get a few thousands by doing it with the low %.

^ Thanks for sharing your experience, when I look in my old earnings I see a lot of guys with "?" I assume are banned due to fraud but never bother trying to add it up and figure out the math of what it adds up to. Very interesting
Im not even doing this bonus week because it isnt worth it

As far as big box sites IFRIENDS produced cam models who became millionaires from camming. They were charging $10 bucks a minute back then and guys were paying because it was like a candy store to them. I don't remember not being able to show tits but maybe I have forgotten. I do remember almost every site gave models 50% or more Like IMLIVE which was one of my first big cam sistes. My first cam site was CAMANIA and I had made my first $100 and they closed up shop and I never got paid. That didn't deter me. From there on out i would cam on a site wait til i hit minimum payout and take a break until I get paid because I didn't want to get burned like that again.

i went down the rabbits hole on google, Wikipedia and wayback machine. interesting reads/ she was a phenomenon to internet users.
I wonder if she is the whitelabel for jennicam/streamate. it would be cool to hear that she is making money from her name.
pcamz was my first website. it was horrible. lol
i kept going through sites until i found one that worked for me

I started in 2003 on ifriends and came over to sm in 2010 . When i first started on sm there was only classic chat no party chat that came much later, Erika I can fully relate to everything you put and specially the lap top and cam graveyard lol. There is a model on sm that i got to know on ifriends and we have been friends ever since, when I went to America I visited Vegas and caught up with her for drinks, now she actually started camming in 1996 I believe, when I speak to her next I will get her to post her experiences for way back then.
PS the refunds on ifriends were horrendous.

i think i know who you are talking about. possibly
The one im thinking of was on ifriends pretty much til the end. i felt bad for her when they closed down bc my understanding is there was no notice.
i tried ifriends but found it to be complicated so i stayed w sm and cams
sm has always been my main site and cam on others as a side hustle but my best combo was sm and cams

lmao it is a long time for one website. i feel old when i tell ppl how long ive cammed but i love it so it doesn't feel old.
as far as sm a lot of change since i started there.
One time i found a forum, (not sure if its here or another website) that talked about sm dropping the % on models from 50% to the 35%. ill try to find that forum post but it was earlyyyyy 2000s..
i want to know the history of girls that started in the 90s with yahoo groups, no big box websites and what they have seen change...
who was the very first camgirl? Where is our queen? That's what i want to know :D I have so many questions lol
Meee. I didn't start getting paid in the 90s but the early 2000's (I worked pso earlier) I was in the last leg on yahoo chat and groups before the bot overhaul and yahoo is how I started selling shows on yahoo chat for like $30/10 min. I then joined a panty selling site, e-banned, bbw sites, and nf. I remember shoddy grainy cameras on yahoo freezing every few mins, lol. And ebay and panties sold like hotcakes and PayPal was cool with it.

^ Thanks for sharing your experience, when I look in my old earnings I see a lot of guys with "?" I assume are banned due to fraud but never bother trying to add it up and figure out the math of what it adds up to. Very interesting
Im not even doing this bonus week because it isnt worth it
25 hours is a lot on cam... I am on cam anyway.. on other sites.. where im actually earning more than minimum wage
Not necessarily. SM deactivates accounts after 6 months of inactivity, that’s why we lose favorites also. I imagine, at some point they get wiped from the system, too much data to keep for no reason.

Hello. On Lj members wont pay more then 299 . 399 per min. Thats the main reason i dont get on there. They ask for profesional pics and videos. They wont accept webcam or phone content.
lol yikes. if this is true then i definitely don't think it's fair to say that LJ's payout structure is "better" than SM...
LJ's highest payout percentage is 80%, but to reach that you'd have to make at least $30,000 in two weeks. which sounds like absolute torture if not impossible with such low rates.
consider this: $3.99 at 80% nets you $3.19
you make more than that from $9.99 rates at 35% on SM, which is not uncommon.
so when discussing "industry standards" and "better" payouts, etc. i feel like it really comes down to what you are able to charge and effectively make money on. lots of SM models charge double digit rates per minute and guys are willing to pay it. it seems like that is not the norm on other sites. so yeah it'd be great if SM paid a higher percentage but at the end of the day, 35% on SM may be equivalent or more than what you could reasonably make on another site with a higher payout but lower standard rates.
just food for thought.
edit: i know i used an extreme case to make an example so i wanted to add that you can do a lot of other hypothetical math and my point would still stand.
example: $5.99 is a common per minute rate on SM, and with 35% you net $2.10. even if you were at the 50% payout level on LJ (minimum $2k in earnings) you'd still not make as much per minute from the $3.99 standard rate on LJ.
obviously if you compare it strictly by the same per minute rates, the higher payout is better. but most models don't charge such low rates on SM because it attracts shitty customers and because SM customers are actually willing to pay more.

Heads up for a new glitch! I was wondering why people are asking me for vanilla shows, since I am now doing only domination and my profile clearly states no vanilla and no nudity. One guy told me that I have NUDE pics n my gallery! I looked and all my nude pics *from when I was doing vanilla), which I had deleted (they don't appear anymore in my Media Manager!!!) appear when someone is clicking "more pictures" in my profile! And there is no way for me to delete them, because they just don't appear anywhere on my end! They are pics from freakin 10 years ago!! Well they are artistic nudes not spread legs ones or anything too revealing but still!! wtf is happening? If anyone had pics they deleted, please check your gallery from a member's view, and please let me know if anyone has the same issue. It really made me VERY mad! And now I have to write to support and I know how that goes...arrhhh!
ETA: I wrote to Liz instead, I didn't want to bother her at first but I really need this fixed ASAP, as it's bothering me to no end and I cant afford staying offline till it gets fixed.

This is why I have never uploaded pics. I swear I heard from someone somewhere that they can never be deleted off SM and that stuck with me and It scared me from posting any lol.
I hope you can get it resolved cause its not cool that they are still there when they shouldn't be.

I don't have a member account so I can't confirm but a while ago a regular of mine was able to buy a video by scrolling back far enough in feed? activity tab? I don't know what to call it. I deleted all of my videos for purchase off of SM so I was confused about how he was able to purchase it. I don't have a fan club so I don't know if there is such a thing as a feed like with social media? but that's what it sounded like when he was describing how he found the link to buy it. Maybe it's something related.

one of my regulars just told me via twitter DM that when he tried to log into his SM account it prompted him to reset his password, so he went through the motions but never actually received the email to do so. then when he went to live tech support they couldn't help him other than tell him to make a new account. now it's saying he's tried too many times to log in and he's locked out. >_<
i had heard about this happening to other models' regulars on twitter (and the ultimatum was basically make a new account and lose all of their credits/rewards and content purchased from models, which pissed a lot of high spending guys off) but none of my customers had it happen to them... until tonight. ugh what the actual fuck.

Ummm is the site not functioning for anyone else rn? I have had slow traffic all night but it was still a steady stream, then after restarting my stream after an exclu in 6 min I have only had 2 people pop in my room and that has never happened to me before. I can see myself online, I have potentials, my placement is normal.
