All the VAT info is on the site now and the price per min on direct cam have been changed too

My phone rate has changed from 1.99 to 2.37 & then to have to pay VAT on the admin fee as well is too much. I just already know that hardly anyone is going to pay over 2 credits for a phone chat on AW.
My IM rate went from 1.39 to 1.67 & I've already lowered that to 1.37.
I feel like the only option really is to join a group & I like being independent and getting paid directly by AW. I'm not sure what to do for the best now.

The thing is - and this is what I am hoping - is that the displayed prices will rise overall, and if guys want a cam show or phone chat etc on AW then they will HAVE to pay.

I just sold one at £5 yet I only got £4.80!????

It doesn’t look like they’ve increased the price for the customers, at least not yet. My prices are all the same so assume I receive a lower amount for each purchase now. I’m with dailypay though so perhaps that’s why? I’ll take a closer look later today when I’m at laptop

Yes, the movies have been VAT added since 2015 (I think it was 2015 it changed).

Price adjusted at their end so it shows round numbers. They've basically lowered their rates.

Thank you cat
I know the movies/pics have always charged vat to the consumer but now on my sales page, it’s £4.80 rather than £5
I always used to get the £5 so AW have deducted 20% on top of that too?
In regards to prices, is it just then changing it their end? Rather than being in a group?

Yep - I have tweaked my cam prices (although I haven't reached your price point yet LOL!) so that they are displaying rounded numbers (OCD) meaning I put one up by about 40p and one came down by about 15p. Need to do the phone price.

I've just looked again for an hour and see NOTHING to indicate the rules over products with live interaction have changed in any way. All the guidance including HMRC still states that anything with a live component is not subject to VAT. Have tweeted Adultwork but don't for a second expect them to acknowledge me. I'm going to try not to get riled up over this tho it pisses me off no end. Nice little earner for them!

I'm confused. So my prices have gone up, I can see but I won't actually be earning anymore, is that right? I'll be earning what I was before but they'll be paying more? I'm about to email my accountant who is very clued up on all this. I worked years to get out of a group and the idea of going back to one is...not nice at all. But we'd be better off in one, would be? DailyPay are great for me with NiteFlirt, to be fair. x

Prices are higher than they used to be and you will be earning less than you used to be as your credit withdrawal admin fee will also be 20% higher. If you join certain groups you will not be charged the extra 20% to withdraw your credits. Some groups charge for daily pay so just research your group carefully and if you are better off then maybe joining will be a good idea.

Oh my Goodness that's terrible! Thank you for explaining it. I've just emailed my accountant. I'll post here with anything he comes up with. I am with the DailyPay Service with Niteflirt who have been great, so I'd be inclined to go with them. I resent it though, so, so much! Has anyone else decided to join a group?

Because some of them would be VAT registered and have provided their VAT number to Adultwork. Adultwork then does not charge them the VAT on the admin fee and so they do not charge it to you when they pay out.

That's so confusing to me. If they are VAT registered then they have to collect the VAT from somewhere, don't they? So...where from? In my head (admittedly, I don't usually deal with VAT and am not good at the maths etc) there should still be VAT on the admin fee, just that the Group manager rather than AW collects it and pays it to HMRC. I know AW are saying otherwise, just it doesn't compute for me.

Because VAT is a 2 way tax, your bill at the end of each quarter is what you charge (20%) minus what you were charged (20%). This is net 0 for group admins who are VAT registered. Their accounts will show that they charged you 20%, but then can claim back the same 20% so in the mean time they can pay out your credits with only the normal 30% deducted for admin.

That's just blown my mind :O;D Thanks for the explanation, although I still don't get it, because where are they claiming back the 20% from? Because this should mean that AW could do the same, not charge us but tell the tax man they've charged us and just claim it back from wherever?
You don't have to explain, I am just thinking (failing) out loud LOL

yeah i would quite like to know too!? lol
is it because with paying VAT you fall into a different tax bracket?
Dahlia Fallon
11-01-2020, 10:40 AM
It is not possible for AW to do this because the reverse charge provision is for businesses and it is to do with the rules being different for business to business (groups) and business to consumer (models).
sexysusie
11-01-2020, 10:41 AM
aw got it! thank you dahlia!
All I know is:
- The place of supply of digital goods for business to consumer has now changed, so AW are responsible for collecting VAT from those of us not VAT reg as they are classing us as consumers not businesses. Which is unfair as many of us don't need to register for vat and thus have no way of claiming it back.
- If someone is vat registered they are still charged the fee but they can claim it back in their own tax return (like Dahlia explained). Daily pay (Adultwork's Finest Performers') are registered so they deal with it and you don't have to worry. Despite the inevitable surge in groups now vying for your attentions I would not recommend ANY other group. They all exist to skim your credits and don't offer you anything.
- you can register for VAT if you want even if you don't earn over the threshold. I'm unsure what other fees or charges that may entail though which is why I haven't done it. I know some girls are.
- the regulations have NOT changed as far as I can see re VAT on live services. However there's no way I can find of confirming it, and it's doubtful you'll find an accountant well versed enough in this area as yet to be able to unravel it. AW gonna AW :/
Blonde-Ambition

Dahlia Fallon
11-01-2020, 10:48 AM
I doubt they are doing it just for fun so without even googling it is guaranteed to be either
a) regulations have changed
b) regulations have not changed, but they were previously non compliant and now they are.
sexysusie
11-01-2020, 11:15 AM
Regulations have changed yes, and they're correct re vat on things like movies, and the things WE pay for like the admin charge and featuring. In this way we and our customer are both the customer of AW and pay vat like on any purchase.
Where I don't believe they are correct is on the vat on LIVE services. These are provided by US the business, and AW merely acts as an intermediary, like a hairdresser renting a chair in a salon. On this basis we are the business and are responsible for collecting any due taxes ourselves. But live services/not automated are not subject to vat In the same way other goods are. Nowhere in the updated regulations has this changed that I can see.
It's confused by what is considered the place of service, and wether they're classing us as a business or consumer.

One thing (among many!) I don't understand is that is this was a new tax law starting today in the UK, why does it not apply to other UK cam sites? I'm on Babestation too and I think they are also UK yet they are not doing this. It would not be unique to AW and I've not heard of other UK cam sites applying this change?
Today was unsurprisingly poor on AW. I have altered my price to cover the extra in fees too so I am making the same per minute as before but with a horrible price increase that benefits neither me or the customer. Not one guy mentioned it however, either specifically to me or in general and in free chat I did expect some moaning, that was one small blessing.

sexysusie
11-01-2020, 02:01 PM
There aren't any other UK cam sites. It's possible Babestation doesn't know about this, or are awaiting something before they make changes. Maybe speak to them?
Kiki I would not know how unless we can get concrete answers. Last time aw begrudgingly listened to us and saught further advice leading to the refunding of the vat they charged to us and our customers. But they weren't happy about it, and they showed blatant lack of respect for models as anything more than mere blips in their money making empire, so I have little faith they'll look further into it this time. I suspect if they are charging it incorrectly it'll just be a case of refunding again.

Cyprus is part of the EU. Live services are outside the scope of digital goods and e-service vat. This is what AW got wrong before and why they had to refund everything they took from our customers. Nothing in the updated regulations shows this has changed. It's still as detailed here https://quaderno.io/blog/online-courses-when-digital-taxes-apply-to-distance-learning/
flow chart https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mynewsdesk.com/uk/hm-revenue-customs-hmrc/blog_posts/eu-vat-changes-twitter-q-a-31555
Also a non EU business is outside the scope of Cyprus VAT as detailed here https://dmarinou.com.cy/cyprus-vat-on-services/#:~:text=The%20Cyprus%20Company%20must%20charge,of %20the%20service%20is%20situated it's the same as before where they're classing us as consumers rather than a business unless we have a VAT number. As people in the UK dont have to register unless earning over the threshold this puts us at a disadvantage, and so AW allowed us to provide other forms of proof for being 'in business'. This should still stand.
As with online learning https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/uae-vat-what-place-supply-educational-services-when-ca-rajiv-hira?articleId=6670402387422916608

It makes no sense to be charged for the shows we provide...if anything, it would VAT on the Justcamit fee as that's what we pay for the service AW provides to us, not our cam charge.
