Is this good? 38708

I just switched to Verizon and this is what I was getting with Comcast

38709

Wondering if I should keep it or switch back. Or if it really makes that much of a difference. I'm dumb when it comes to this stuff.

WOW, that's the fastest personal internet speed i've ever seen. You can actually stream HD for TV with that speed :D

In my country it's possible to get 200/ 200 where fiber optic is available. Not in my town though, the most I can get here is 15/ 0, 900... :S

Really? The Verizon speed right? That's good to know 'cause I was about to call them and ask why it wasn't as fast as Comcast. I'm guessing if the download and upload are closer in number then that's a good thing? I'm embarassed that I don't understand this more lol.

Yeah this is 50/50 apparently. That's what they told me when I signed up.

Upload speed is what you want to focus on for camming. You can get good placement on SM and a good stream with anything over 1Mbps upload. So you're gravy, baby! Download speeds are great for well, web surfing (anything over 5Mbps in my experience loads pages instantly). You have near instant downloads of clips, movies etc. I'd wager. You don't necessarily want your upload and download close together. They're rarely the same, download is almost always higher than upload. I don't imagine it's worth calling them but if you want your 60Mbps something upload back, it might be worth it. Honestly don't know what difference upload makes over 10Mbps. Your ping is super low which is also great for SM placement if the placement tool is accurate.

I'm not in my camming studio, but living deep in the boonies the best I can get with a business cable connection is 16Mbps download 1-1.75Mbps upload. My stream is almost always good, though, never had a complaint except from when my computer needed upgrading and I'm not certain it wasn't a SM issue. Do your super awesome fast upload speeds make your video clearer ladies? I'm always getting guys saying how clear my cam is (Just the usual logitech) so wondering if a higher upload is just overkill, though overkill I wish I had! Also your speeds make me fear cam sites are going to start requiring upload speeds unavailable in my area :/

Thanks so much for the insight Sophie!

I use a c910 and have gotten compliments on how clear my video is when I had the 11.8 upload. I really have no basis for comparison though. My lighting is also really good so that could have been what they were enjoying who knows?

I just got Verizon FiOS installed this week. When I'm on wireless instead of hardwired, I run about half of this for both download and upload. I'm going to get an access point to fix that.

Make sure you connect the AP via Ethernet to the main router to get the best performance. I can recommend you some stuff. What's your budget?

By the way: Does anybody have Verizon FiOS here? How's the symmetric internet working for ya?

My speed when measured to Seattle where the streaming servers are. Apparently, most of it gets eaten up on the way)). Also, the ping is quite a killjoy.

This is the ISP I have. The only downside is that their coverage isn't that great, but other than that, everything is top notch. You'd have to find an area that has coverage with them before renting or buying a house/apartment here. That should be the easy part ;)

Mind you, I have the 30Mbps package and they giv me 10 megs extra!

How are you going with the mobile broadband, how much data do you use while camming?!

Mobile internet is something I have been thinking about and its not to unreasonable at 30 quid a month for 25gb on a 30day contract with ee..... hmmm.

2 hours uses about 1gb. Each top up lasts a month and if I don't use all the allowance, I lose it.

Thanks Rebecca for the info. I am on cable and max upload is 2M. Thinking to get 4G dongle. Is 2 hours for 1gb on streamate? And is 4G mobile broadband reliable? Any drop outs? Thanks.

2hr for 1gb is MFC or CamGod. Once I find a spot with a strong signal it doesn't drop. You will need to go to your EE account and select to allow porn. My husband's mobile phone is with EE so he checks the upload speed every where he goes. I get screen caps from him when he's in the bank or in Waitrose! But it does mean we don't waste time setting up somewhere then realise the 4G is weak. We know all the strong signal locations in advance.

Thanks for your help Rebecca. I am in Australia, not UK. 2M upload max here really sucks. I am going to get a prepaid 4G mobile first which is 140$ for 16G to see if it's stable.

I guess you could do one site with that upload,I've seen girls before having under 1Mbps up,I dont know if you can do SM but a site like MFC or CB might work? You can't know unless you try.But if you want to cam in HD or splitcam, then you need to upgrade.

why is my speedtest results different each time i do it? does it depend on what other people on my connection are doing?

Could be a lot of things. Speed fluctuate a bit normally. Hardwiring the connection reduces that, but it can still happen. Too many people on the network certainly reduces available bandwidth. If you have wireless internet (raise your hand if you're like me and have a fucking radio antenna for your internet because you live in Middle Earth), that changes it too.
