View Full Version : What did you do before camming? Is camming your only income?

I am a registered veterinary technician, but I plan on stopping soon, been doing it 10 years and work at an emergency clinic. I LOVE my job, but the pay is crap. I also own a dog training business and am a professional dog trainer. It's my passion. I do everything from pet training to service dog training. It is my passion. Pay is good too, but camming really helps supplement my lifestyle.

So many diverse jobs, I love it!
Has anyone ever used a past career choice to play it up to get tip/tokens?
I do mostly roleplays, and think it would be fun to act out the job characters.8)
I used to work in corporate sales, so I play the buttoned up secretary a lot.(and still have the wardrobe).
Used to be a stripper full time, so that's just a given with camming.
The only job I've had that I havent played out on cam was when I was a makeup artist. I do use it on my pso calls, when I'm making up subs.
Well, I used to be a dog groomer so no, I don't really play that into my camming because well, doing a shower scene with my dog on MFC would seem innocent to most but certainly not to bestiality fans. At least I wouldn't think so? What are bestiality people into anyway? Lingerie, wet t-shirts, stockings etc. on animals? OK, I know the answer to this, I was just trying to make a joke.
Before dog grooming, I was also a barista in high school and college. After that I went into online casino sales/marketing and design and then executive assistance. That's where I climbed the ladder pretending to like my bosses. I did sales for a telecommunications company as well and ended up as one of the their top agents--the prizes were good incentives and that's why I have a plethora of Apple products.
I like doing the secretary/boss roleplay as well :). The MUA on subs is brilliant :).

I have had so many jobs it's a little embarrassing.
Studio Photographer
Furniture Sales
Vacuum Sales
Taco Bell
Little Ceasars
Gas Station Attendant
Quiznos
Animal Boarding Kennel Attendant-3 different locations

Avanti's (restaurant)

Bob Evans
G&D (factory work)
I'm sure there is more but that is what is coming to mind. Basically with a vanilla job a boss would piss me off and I would quit, this is why camming is perfect for me I am my own boss! I will never work for anyone again, I will continue to cam and I am going to get my real estate license which is where my passion is but I am realistic enough to know that real estate won't be amazing money so I will continue to cam as well.

i do real estate and it is very much like camming in that you are your own boss. The great thing about RE is that you work history is not a factor with you getting a job, most brokerages would accept any salesperson. Its also a great cover story if your not out with the type of work you do. RE can be very lucrative if you put in the work in your business

I think you are right that it can be very rewarding if you put the time into it, I think the reason many fail is because they think it is going to be easy money and it isn't. I have already talked to a few brokerages who said once I get my license I can come on board with them. What has stopped in the past was not having income while waiting for that first sale but now with camming I don't have to worry about that so once I move back to my home state I am going to begin my courses.

^^ After I move, I'm going to take the RE licensing courses as well. I've always been interested in RE and so I guess this is as good a time as any.

I have worked in corporate jobs since I was 18, I lived in Alberta, Canada so I had what was considered an awesome "career" going for me at a young age in the oil industry doing administrative work and insurance underwriting. Then I got pregnant, moved to a very expensive city in Canada, and have to support my husband and my baby - Camming is best option for me and my family hours wise and financially, but I definitely sometimes miss having office responsibilities lol.

I did the retail thing in high school.
I worked in a beer-league hockey arena for 2 years which was a super fun job and those skills totally transfer to camming.
I worked in a 5 star hotel for 2 years but hated it.
I worked for ticketmaster for a year an a half ( bad company)
I worked for a telecommunications company for 3 years which I enjoy but got bored of the work eventually
And I currently work very PT for a federal government office (FYI CDN camming chicks, you can pass the federal government background check!)
Im currently a student too. I have a bachelors degree already but Im doing nothing with that, so Im pursuing a college degree in medical laboratory sciences.

First job experience was doing house cleaning for old people that family members knew, for less than professional house cleaners charged but hey I wasn't a professional cleaner. Being around chemicals was horrible and not something I could ever do again.
At the same time I worked at my family's business during middle and high school. I miss it honestly, got paid more than most entry level office jobs (more than what they pay today in FL!) flexible hours, interesting work.
Moved to FL and was forced to get a retail job during last year of high school (think along the lines of TJ Maxx). It was terrible, everything in the store was low quality, co workers were a mess, customers were mean and was shouted at a few times by female customers. Men would hit on me and ask for my number all the time, which I would later be yelled at for by the female store managers when I would either just say "oh thanks...." when it came to being hit on or "sorry I can't do that on the clock."when it came to a guy asking for my number. It wasn't like I was flirting back, why yell at me? Yell at the dude taking up my time. Quit that job, could never do retail ever again in any capacity.
Than got a job at a grocery store and only lasted like 3 months. It was probably the most depressing job I ever had. Had a lot of people using food stamps and abusing the system, buying lobster, steak, packaged food. It made me really upset when my family was really struggling to put food on the table and just barely passed the line of being qualified for food stamps. Seeing mothers using WIC, old people in bad shape buying cigarettes, people buying food that is bad for them, was a sad sight to see. Also seeing how dumb 99% of people were at the self checkout area was rage inducing and disgusting lmao I would have guys coming in my line or when I was at self checkout hit me on, tell me "wish you were in a job where I could tip you sweetie" "you should be a model, why are you here???", etc. Co-workers were a freaking mess here too and the boys working there would claim I was dating them. I quit this job too.
I than got a front desk job at a gym a few days a week. I had just gotten a personal training certification and was just trying to find a way into the gym. The manager for this job was awful, and co workers were mostly awful. The gym cleaner guys would always hit on me and try talking to me. Manager would yell at me if I ever used the words "good, or great" when ever someone would ask me "how are you". Was only allowed to say "Fantastic and Excellent." I usually closed the gym, so always had to tell guys to get the hell out of the gym its closing time. Guys would creepily stare of course or hit on me. Some people weren't members and weren't paying their membership bills and would beg to get into the gym. Or would complain about something I couldn't fix or do, so I had to say "please call the corporate number." about 20 times a shift. One time a male member had a camera and was filming a pre-teen boy in the male locker room. That was fun to deal with. I was fired after missing a shift, that I said I would be missing over a month in advance. Which was fine since I only did 2 months there and had found a personal training job.
Then I was a personal trainer for a few years. I discourage anyone from being a personal trainer. You are not respected, not paid enough, and have to work wacky hours like 6am-9am than 5pm to 10pm. Every gym owner I have ever met has been scum. First ones promised me a job and worked there a couple weeks than "gave my job away" to kid that was a son of a client that the owners trained. Second gym I worked at for a while until it was bought out by another big company, than would only pay trainers 12/hr plus commission, all the trainers from previous company quit and moved on and so did I. Third gym was owned by a lady who was successful in one those pyramid scheme companies, had a brand new Mercedes paid by the company. She wanted me to always push that company's products on the training clients. After a week of working there she wanted me to pay for a kit of that pyramid company's products so I could also be "successful" like her. The cost of kit? $1500. Uh ffff no. She gave me a "sample kit." and said to have a home party with it. I ended up quitting after the second week. She than harassed me via phone and email saying I stole the "sample kit" and demanding $500 for it. What a crazy biatch. 4th gym was owned by a husband/wife team, where personal training and physical therapy was done at the building. The wife had just had her 2nd baby and was only in the building a couple days a week. I was asked to help with physical therapy even though I wasn't certified (and none of the other employees assisting in physical therapy besides the "Head physical therapy assistant" was certified. Sketchy... was paid less for the PTA hours than personal training hours). Most of the clients were older, the old men would always make comments on my yoga pants. Found the husband owner banging some 50 year old cougar client in his office after some clients in the waiting room were complaining of a noise (real classy), was than threatened to not tell his wife. I was than fired a week later with him saying "oh we had clients complaining about you..." Than worked in a gym within a hospital but never got enough hours since no one lived near the hospital, only got people getting off of work nearby and that wasn't enough to survive on. So I than quit personal training for any employer and occasionally independently train, but its not enough to survive and mostly a waste of time.
I had a sugar daddy for 2 years from ages 20-22. (I'm 22 now) where I met him once a month (sometimes not at all) where I was given 3k a month. That is like 52k a year if you were to include and factor in taxes. Best gig I ever had, I was really lucky and able to graduate university with no debt. Wish I had this still going on, but all things come to an end. Now I'm a baby stripper, getting my feet wet in camming and seeing if its worth it to me, and starting traditional escorting. Still sugar when the right opportunity comes up and also I'm a "spoiled girlfriend". I love to work, I just want to be compensated accordingly.
I now have a bachelor's degree and figuring what I want to do next (that isn't sex work related.) All of my professional job offers have been in the 35-45k range, before taxes. Oh the horror. Thought it was just because FL is a cheap state, but the offers in Chicago have not been much better, maybe another 5k tacked onto that figure which isn't enough to factor in the higher living costs. Its not like I have a degree in liberal arts, social work, literature, teaching...I have a finance degree. So maybe I will go back to school for something like dental hygiene, nursing, pharmacist or eventually get my MBA while doing sex work for now and continue working on my own business.
Long @$$ post but I like threads like this and seeing people's experiences.

In college I was one of those students who calls alumni to raise funds. I started camming and quit that job almost immediately after since it was the absolute worst. I feel far more comfortable being naked and masturbating than I ever did calling someone's home and basically begging for money.
I also worked at a hotel as an auditor/front desk associate and cammed intermittently while still getting my B.A. Then I quit and decided to make camming my main income. I've put off going to get my Master's and possibly Doctorate because at this point I'm not really sure what I want to do.

The bullshit that we deal with when working for someone else...it SUCKS. You just try to do your job to the best of your ability, and still get treated like shit. That's awesome that you got your bachelor's degree, and that you have an idea of what you'd like to do in the future. :)
One other thing from your post that I wanted to comment on...just because a person uses food stamps to buy "nicer" foods doesn't mean they're abusing the system. I hope that's not what you intended to say, but that's kind of what I got from your post. It's often the people who don't get food stamps who complain about this sort of thing, and I think it's pretty judgmental. Now if a person gets a couple hundred dollars of food stamps per month, and they use it all on candy bars, then yeah, that'd be pretty ridiculous and idiotic. Lol. But you shouldn't expect food stamps recipients to just stick to buying boring ramen noodles all the time either. They should be able to sometimes buy steak for their family if they want to. And obviously, if they're buying steak or lobster damn near everyday, then yeah, their food stamps will run out quickly, which WOULD NOT be wise.

I lasted a whole month at Cracker Barrel last year because I am so spoiled from being able to work from home and choose my own hours and not having to deal with a boss!!! I've only been camming off and on for going on 2 years but I've worked another wah job for 6 years. Plus Cracker Barrel was only giving me 20 hours a week at minimum wage and I was having to work weekends!
Before camming:
Dairy Queen
Taco Bell
Walmart
McDonalds
cleaned houses
head house keeper at a hotel
chicken plants
convenience store
Cracker Barrel
Burger King
Secretary
sales job ( call center type work from home)
stay at home mom and housewife
Most of my jobs Ive only lasted for a year with my secretary job lasting 2 years but Ive been with the same wah company for 6 years ( which I am very burnt out) and camming for 2 years!

OH MAN I DID THIS TOO. Only for a few weeks (it was a three-week position) during "giving season" but it brought me to tears. I'd have to call people who were in their 80s and have their hospice nurses pick up, or call someone who'd gotten kicked out but somehow was still in the listings, and ugh overall every bit of it was a nightmare. It was literally the only work study job I could get and I applied for EVERYTHING. Ew.
I left school after a semester though when I was still seventeen, and moved to where I live now with my partner. Got a job working as a barista at a traditional Italian pastry shop that only hired young white conventionally attractive girls and made me wear a retainer in my eyebrow piercing (another terrible job - lotta sexual harassment from my creepy boss and general sketchy labor practices/verbal abuse/bad shit.) When I finally quit working there after 4-ish months, I got a job as a delivery packer and waitress at a Taiwanese restaurant. That was actually fucking awesome, I loved working there so much, and I'd been working there about three or four months when I started camming. I did both for about two and a half months, but I was making so much more money camming (my hours had also been cut at the restaurant for the slower season) and it had so many benefits that I was able to leave my job (it was great but camming = better money + ability to work around mental health stuff + more time to spend with my partner) and I've been camming full-time since October!

Before camming, I worked as an auditor and a financial analyst for several years. I started camming on the side for extra money because I travel a lot and I like to be able to enjoy nice things while having a good amount of savings at the same time. I then lost my job a few months ago, and have been camming full-time.
I like camming because I can spend my time the way I want to, but at the same time I feel like I wasted many years of education just to do this...It's sad but I do feel pressure from society, parents, etc...

I've worked in retail, as a research assistant, and in customer service. The last one was the longest-running one and I'm absolutely fucking DELIGHTED!!! to tell y'all I worked my last shift yesterday.
Currently I'm camming and doing a little bit of research assistance on the side, but I'll be done with that within the week most likely.
I'm an artist and that's what I consider my vocation but I don't make much money off it. I do the occasional album cover or flyer or portrait, that's all. But I started camming so I could spend more time on my art without the soul-draining experience of minimum wage work weighing on me and stealing all my energy and lust for life.

I've worked:
-Cashier helper in a Supermarket
-Cashier in the same supermarket
-Call center representative
-Call center bac office
-Camming for a studio and barely paid my bills at that time
-Call center Again
-Marketing Assistant for a very known multinational company, i totally loved this one but the contract ended ;___;
-Trying to get back to Camming
I also do graphic design and social network management as freelancer that i totally love cause I have an Advertising career, but this is not well paid where i live and there is alot of freelancers and professionals doing a great job almost for free, sad but true. Also thinking about going back to sit in an office during 8 hours or more and dealing with bosses, and traffic to get to the place and the routine gives me the creeps.

Mostly shitty food jobs like taco bell and Jimmy Johns. I've also worked at a Vietnamese restaraunt and for a year worked 3rd shift alone at a gas station which was the worst, most self esteem crushing experience of my life. I'm a full time student as well and the gas station was right by campus and all the bars. so, constantly interacting with shithead frat boys and enduring a lot of sexual harassment from drunk customers. I got a lot of verbal abuse at that job and was falling short on my rent almost every month, was having suicidal thoughts everyday. I got treated like, and started feeling like I really was poor, worthless, white trashy based on the way people treated me. I actually got robbed at gunpoint in early october which finally gave me the push to quit, so in a way I'm grateful for it. now....Im still in school graduating next year with a double major and am a full time camgirl and I couldn't be happier.

I interned at a record company, worked 12 hour shifts at a factory, took on several temp jobs for general office/admin/secretarial tasks, then found a temporary calling as an academic transcriber for about two years. I juggled the transcription with camming for my first 6 months as a camgirl, then eventually felt confident relying on camming alone. As of January 2015 I have been camming as my primary income, plus a bit of passive income from sporadic fetish clips.

I am camming at half time right now. I started PT for credit card debt repayment, and recently left my FT job to start my own business.
I don't want to say what I do here, but I was making $60K before taxes when I left so I had what most would describe as a good career. Factoring in my city's cost of living I was solidly middle class. I left because they reorganized and intellectually I just couldn't handle how boring my new job description was.
I now have two gigs, camming and my own vanilla company (in the same industry as the job I quit) and I'm happier than I've ever been. I definitely make way more money camming but it's nice to have the balance of solving different kinds of business problems. (I definitely include camming in 'solving business problems' because figuring out how to become a top girl is no little thing.)

I was a casino dealer. I did camming part time for the majority of 2015. I'm just focusing on camming now. I made good money as a dealer, but camming is more fun, and making my own hours is so priceless.

I was a GC... general contractor in the remodeling industry, the industry was going down so i went to camming and havent turned back since. Once i plan to retire id love to go back and get my license again. Loved construction. Maybe will again one day.
Lots of dead end jobs.
I would love camming to be a FT gig, but I'm afraid the $$$ is just not there. It feels just like when I got into stripping. A day late and a dollar short. I got in after it had hit it's peak and started declining and everyone and their momma AND grandma was getting in on it. Spreads the cheddar thin unless you look phenomenal or are an extras lady. Neither of which I am.

I haven't had a vanilla job in nearly 10 years.
Previous jobs-
Student
Retail
Deli worker
Telemarketing
I got into camming when I was a student and telemarketer back in 2006. I worked on cam sites for a couple years, and then I started stripping. I've been stripping since 2009, and just recently back in November I started cam work again. I like having a couple sources of income, so if one isn't as good I can depend on the other, or if I don't feel like going into the club I can make money from home.
I hope to keep dancing and camming for at least another 5 years. I'm 30 now and worry about my income going down as I get older. Part of why I got into camming again is because I feel like I can continue doing it after I quit dancing.

You help make people or businesses look good online. Personally I felt dirty doing it. Like, you might have to make a person convicted of domestic abuse or pedophilia look like this awesome guy who donates to charity all the time. Or help results that show a resort is "fun!" go to the top while results about that nasty viral outbreak or safety failures go down in results.

Oh wow. So, like 'damage control'. I.e. when celebrities or politicians do something bad that needs to be glossed over, or covered up?

I worked at Tesco, for minimum wage. Then ironically I would spend most of that at Tesco again for my foodshopping.

As of right now its my only source of income and it has seriously saved me from serious trips in the past. I used to work as a waitress in some fancy restaurant that had tons of drama and gossip running around about the boss sleeping with his coworkers. I quickly got tired of getting ripped off by snobby rich people who would walk in on a bad day for whatever reason, order tons of booze then leave a short tip of $2 out of a $300 order. One of the reasons was this older woman was having a bad day and all the cards she had on hand got shut off due to arguing with her Husband. Hustling very expensive wine bottles in a dim room with grill performances can be nerve wracking and during that entire week I was promised a trainee who quit the following day. Since moving out of hectic and unnecessary bullshit I stumbled across a camming ad when looking for clubs in the area, figured why the fuck not..
