Much off the dancers were injured, more than World Trade Center, I can easily think of a dozen (usually a car or bicycle accident), which requires plastic surgery. Even if insurers pick up the hospital charges, not to earn $ dance sucked.

It's not common for dancers to have their own insurance? You can write the premiums off, no?

It's probably not uncommon for responsible dancers who have their shit together to have thier own insurance. But based off the people I've worked with... I'm going to guess that's probably 10% of all dancers... MAYBE.

I know exactly one dancer who pays for her own health insurance. I do know a few who have it through a spouse or from an additional real-world job. Based on the number of girls I am fairly friendly with your 10% figure seems just about right.

Clubs have liability insurance for anybody getting hurt in the club. Technically this means the dancers too but good luck trying to get workman's comp from a SC. They'll give you shit and threaten you and be just generally douchey to badger you out of it.

A friend is a SC waitress. She slipped on something and fell, cut herself pretty badly on a beer bottle and tried to get workman's comp. The owner said, "It's a good thing you're a waitress and not a dancer."

"Why?"

"Because after I blacklist you, you'll still be able to find work in restaurants. Never in another club ever, but you can wait tables at Dennys."

She fought for compensation for a while, never got it though.

I had health insurance for a while b/c I have chronic illnesses. The cost of insurance just barely beat out the cost of unscheduled dr visits and meds. Got married to get on his insurance when my insurance went up in cost again. I feel like that's more common than dancers/adult industry workers getting their own insurances, doing a hurry up marriage to get insurance. LOL

No but anyway, having your own health insurance means you pay deductible, out of pocket costs and copay when you claim a big illness or injury. If you'd gotten hurt on the job and got workman's comp, your employer would have had to pay all of that.

Is this person for real? Trying to sue a stripper?

Sounds like the guy who comes in night after night, says he has "cancer" and says he wants to "try" to help the girls, but can't. Doesn't even tip a dollar, every once in a while. Just there to get a free peep show and symphathy I guess.::)

The girls are not employees, as was stated, but are 1099 and therefor are independant contractors.

One club I worked at I had to sign a contract where one of the many conditions was if I hurt myself at work the club was not liable. The only time I've heard of a dancer being compensated was when the pole actually came loose and fell so she sued.

My accountant told me to get income protection insurance in case I hurt myself. I moved to Canada about 4 months ago and haven't even looked into it stupidly as I broke my foot 2 weeks ago and now have to live off savings for close to 3 months. Now I strongly reccommend any dancer worrying about getting injured at work to take out this insurance.

For the most part, if a dancer gets hurt at work, we are on our own for doctor bills, and any other expenses we incur. If a customer is invovled, it will depend on what kind of person they are. If they were really responsible and a decent person, they will usually offer to help. The clubs don't pay our medical bills. HOWEVER, I work in a great place where the clubs owner and managers genuinely care about us, I can see them doing what they can to help one of us if we weren't in a position to be able to take care of all the costs associated with the injury. It really just depends on the club/customer/people involved.
