I think, rather than spending money on becoming an advertiser, you're much better off spending time becoming an active and trusted member of those forums.
oh yeah thats what I meant haha, not like paid advertising
also about the multiple formats of clips - how do you guys go about it? do all the clips in multiple formats or just some or?

Banked my C4S cheque today...the pound is low!
Pixiegirl you can use a free video converter to change format and sizes. It depends on how many other fetishes are covered by the clip and how many you want to make. You don't want your store to look a mess though with too many versions of the same clip lumped together. Some people get confused about how many are allowed, but it's 2 formats in different sizes that's fine, you can have more than 2 versions of the clip.

I might just wait till I have more content tbh, I only have 35 clips so duplicating now might not be the best anyway
oooo I forgot the pound being low was good for us when I heard the news - I should be getting C4S and MV pays tomorrow - bonus :D

I post two formats, wmv and mp4, in HD. That way I can post everyday, I don't have time to make 1 clip/day. No need to wait, all exposure is good! I post the mp4:s first and then wmv:s ten days later - that way a clip won't end up on the same page if the page is set to show clip order at time of posting (which can be the case if the page is reached through certain paths, not sure how it works) Clip order is set to show mp4:s first and then the list repeats with wmv:s. Posting 10 days apart spreads out exposure (especially in slower categories where one might remain on the list for a month), but it CAN be irritating if someones sees an "old" clip being posted again that much later. And for 10 days with a new clip they only have the one format choice of mp4. It's trial and error...
I have only sold my shortest clips though, so now that I made some longer ones - one 49 min coming up! I'm thinking I should offer those as SD too because the size difference will matter more.

I might trial it or something on my better selling clips

objects crush shoes/barefoot - motion and sound quality is absolutely important for barefoot lovers, they will never pay for lowres videos
trampling - motion quality is very important, they like heels traces on face or on stomach, lowres is not welcome here
peeing, lactation - detais are very important, so FHD is welcome here
spandex, latex, vinyl, lycra, pantyhoses, stockings - details are very important, lowres is not welcome
giantess, pov domination, pov glass floor etc - details are not very importnat, 1280x720 is sufficient resolution
are You agree with my notes?
No I don't. I shoot/edit in those genres in much less res than that. Lighting and colour and contrast and "freshness" of story/scenario are much more important in my experience.

I get sales in both, it's hard to know sometimes whether they're buying because of the category it's in, the format or the size. It's worth doing with your best sellers.

I have only been open for a week and have sold 10 clips so it might just be a coincidence, but 8 were mp4. Others say wmv sell slightly better for them. Like Classy Katy said, it might as well be that the customer doesn't care about format, just buys within that specific category it was clicked from. I usually have two different categories for the mp4 and wmv to spread exposure, but if the clip is very obviously in only one cat, I put both there since I spread them apart 10 days anyway. (which I might not do later, it's just experimenting)
It does seem however, that brand new clips (mp4:s) sell better than old ones, even if the wmv:s are technically new in their category. This might hint that people already saw that old clip once anyway and decided the first time whether to buy or not. So if I had posted wmv:s first, that format might have been more sold.
For ten clips and a week though, mind you it's wild speculation.

Crap, I accidentally uploaded a clip, in both formats, with several spaces in the filename. I can't upload the same file again with correct name (tried) because it's recognized as the same clip. Is there a way to change the filename? (clip is not active yet) Or if I delete the clip from the list, can I re-upload or is it still on the server?

I think you still can't delete clips. You can't rename either. We used to be able to do that but the transition to amazon servers and the corrupt file issues made them temporarily disable that (for a few months it seems..)
Rename the file completely and upload it again or try to use it anyway. I always used to upload clips with spaces and that wasn't a problem at all, although they always said it would be. If you can set a price and actually add it, then it should work. If you don't want to take any risk -> give it a brand new name and upload again.

I can still see the faulty file on the server (from my ftp) and it's in the clip name list so I guess it's not actually deleted. But it worked to upload the correctly named clip and use it, but only AFTER I deleted it from my list of active/scheduled clips in the admin. I am guessing if I tried to add the old one again with a new description etc it wouldn't be accepted, which is good.

I made nearly 6 figures last year with a Logitech C920. If they want the video and the video isn't awful quality, they will buy it. It doesn't fucking matter, and this is the reason you're not making money. You care way too much about quality, payment methods, girls' bodies etc, and you don't focus on the actual problem, which is that people don't want to buy your videos.
I know this was directed towards boyru, but I wanted to thank you for this.
You made me realize that I probably have been getting in my own way with C4S worrying about things that don't matter. I know that this advice wasn't meant for me but I appreciate it all the same. ❤

I'm having the worst month ever on C4S. It's so bad that I'm embarrassed to even mention numbers. I don't know what's going on. My videos have improved a lot in quality, I'm uploading regularly, advertising on Twitter & Tumblr and still getting daily hits below 50.

How about trying a couple of new fetishes and shoot a few clips in those? Sometimes it just needs you to go off in a different direction - albeit temporarily - to restart those sales. It opens your store to customers who may previously have not been interested as they assumed you weren't offering what they wanted.

I have two old stores, very dark videos, very shitty all around in my opinion. Other than content, I think the content is good. I still get pretty respectable sales from those stores month after month. Despite not having updated them in 3 years. Footage was shot with a Logitech c910 and it was decent but my lighting was horrendous. It doesn't matter what you are shooting with, if customers want your content they buy. That's the long and short of of it.

Its way harder to find quality male talent than you think. Sure about 1/3 of your fans fantasize about filming with you but in reality most men will flake out, have ridiculous requirements (cant show my face, tattoos, do what you want on cam) or will fail to produce usable content (not be able to preform, not listen to direction ect)
If you choose to go through with it...
Make sure STD tested within 14 days, if your doing any "sexy" content
From what I've gathered, most male talent either pays a fee to be in clips or is paid by receiving one of this finished clips. When my hubby shot for a local produce I made sure he got paid for his time, but his other 'male talent' only received a copy of the clip & sexy time with the model. Dommes seem to charge a session fee or reduced session fee with a deposit to reduce the expense if the male-talent flakes out.
Make sure to get a copy of their IDs and have them sign a proper release.
Exactly, every guy who has wanted to be in a video has gotten shy when I explain STD testing and send them model releases to review and ask for copies of 2 pieces of ID. Then I explain the set-up of the filming and they're like "wait, I don't just pound you until I cum?" uh...no. I was lucky as HELL with my first dude, have since not been so damn lucky. He was happy as hell to get the unedited footage of us goofing around on set and generally having a great time in between filming (I watermarked it all and made sure I hadn't said anything that would be identifying), sad he is in another country at the moment!

That's great news! Don't worry so much about stuff like that. You truly are your own worse enemy. Your viewers aren't as worried about the quality of the videos as we are as producers of them.
Like I said, as long as they can see and hear you most viewers really don't mind. Some of my best selling videos are the ones I think look bad or are stupid ideas. I've never had anyone complain about them!
I am glad your sales and hits are up, it can be so discouraging when things are slow but it always comes back!

I love editing myself but it's very time consuming, especially when you get nerdy and picky with details like I do... I let myself with some clips that are favorites of mine, others I put a deadline ("Alyssa, you have to finish it within this hour, or you have to do punishment cardio exercise") I could easily be burnt out putting effort in details that won't reflect in sales.
Ahhhh that's brilliant! i'm totally going to threaten myself with squats as punishment from now on! Might not help my procrastination but my booty will be amaze balls!
justsometwat
01-17-2017, 10:56 AM
I 'punish' myself with stuff too. I know that if I sit around not doing anything that I will not want to upload my videos, so I get up first thing in the morning and upload 5-10 videos. ONLY then can I go shower and get ready and have breakfast. It makes me move faster and I know I will get the work done because my stomach is growling and I need to get a move on with showering and doing my hair. I've thought about doing exercises in between each video since I am trying to lose weight, but I'll have to think about that one :P

I have a "friend with benefits" that is very open minded and has offered to be in my clips if I need to. He is one of the few that knows exactly what I do (but not even him gets to see most of my videos, I get uncomfortable) I will definitely use him soon to get more variety, but I have a feeling he will try to "act" a role and overdo it, where I want to capture the real thing. So he will just be a dick in cam pov style, or perform simple things with no speech.
I would hesitate to have someone I don't know well as a solo producer - high risk of creeps, or at least guys who just don't understand fully what you want them to do. If you choose a "fan" there's a power imbalance that might be uncomfortable. If I wanted someone else than my particular friend, I would look for someone in my own circles of open minded friends. I hang around in fetish/bdsm clubs and communities, web and irl. Important is that I actually enjoy performing sexual acts with the person, and I'm very picky with partners :) But I also decided at the very first beginning when I was thinking about C4S, it has to be clips where I never "fake" things in the sense that it feels like acting. Of course, I do themes that are fantasies and are impossible to be real, but I am in the moment, not thinking about what I am having for dinner, you know :) I made some clips in the beginning and discarded them because I got that fake feeling. That was only me eating chocolate (nope, didn't manage to get sexually excited for real), so I would have felt worse if it was sex. Not judging those who totally fake it though! But why not enjoy it :)

Same here. I always see my sales trend higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. But I don't know if different fetishes have different peak times.
I also notice that you have to think in terms of time zones. If I upload at a bizarre hour in the Sates, for example, six in the morning on the West Coast, then I'll get more sales from Europe.

I think that was here, but in a different context:
On Friday and Saturday most / all (part time) studio owners update their stores. So while there is actually more traffic on c4s in the weekends, your store could get less visitors because on the main page and in some categories, updates just fly in and you don't get any exposure time vs. updating on a Tuesday morning (where there will be less traffic on c4s, so this really depends).
In categories where there is not much competition, I think it's absolutely worth a weekend update. I used to have my best days on Saturdays, then on Thursdays (for months), then on Monday and now I don't care about days anymore. I look at months or even years.
Funny enough, someone told me to do that years ago and I didn't. And now I do. Haha.
nattythefattyforsure
01-17-2017, 03:50 PM
Maybe surf around on c4s in your category/categories, too. Check out if new stores have popped up that might be taking away from your traffic and/or get some new inspiration from them. Also check to see if your stuff is being pirated.
Hope you find a solution. Or maybe it's a fluke month.

Anyway it's now Jan 19 and I have NOT rec'd my check. I am NOT happy. I wrote C4S support and they said people's checks seem to be coming late this month. As if it has nothing to do with them.

I'm so sorry to hear about that chargeback, Sinna, especially after doing so well on the Main Page. Do chargebacks happen to you more often when you're having better months?
Or do you think it's a fluke? Or a pirate?
I'm still trying to figure out where I might look for my stuff to check if it's being pirated. The only place I see stuff with my fetish that's stolen is on YouTube.
Also, I'm sorry to bombard you with questions, but you mentioned that you look for trends over the course of months and years ...
I'm wondering if November and December are big months overall?
I've had my store up since August 2016. I had record breaking numbers in November and December. I'm wondering if I just got lucky because it was the holidays!?!? I'm kinda stressing out about it because I walked out on my day job after seeing those numbers ...
Also, please: I'm debating about investing in a waterproof GoPro. Has anyone bought a GoPro and regretted it?

It was a purchase from December. I didn't look into it, I just decided to earn it back twice and forget about it :P It's always the same anyways: wife finds out, guy ordered drunk, guy regrets order because of X, stolen card - one of those. It doesn't really matter. The money is gone and won't come back.
Let me check.. okay my Novembers have been a little below average the past 4 years. My Decembers have been way below average :) I think people spend a lot of money on Christmas stuff, so that is quite normal. I can only speak for myself, but doing well in December can be a good sign.
If you are open since August and break records in November, December, you don't have a lot of history though. So breaking records is easier than when you have a long history. About 4 months after starting, your store maybe just got into that zone (amount of clips, reach, popularity, customer base) where you could make more money. So I wouldn't really count on the numbers.
I got a waterproof GoPro, but a fake model since I was peeing on it. I used it once or twice, then realized: for it to be waterproof, you put it in a waterproof case. That means your microphone is in that waterproof case as well. And if you pee on that or do stuff to it, that just makes crazy noises. If you talk, you can barely be heard, because it's in a waterproof case. And that's pretty noise proof as well. So you need a second cam or a microphone for sound.
That gives you more editing and setup work. It's a hassle. Then you got a wide angle with those action cams. Not suitable for every shot.
Long story short, it's in my closet since a few months. Never using it. I would invest into something else, like lights, hard drives for backup, adult-income patronage (https://www.patreon.com/Sinna) :P
