Im wanting to transition out of live camming, can you sell clips or videos and make a full time living out of it that is comparable to camming? Thank You
I used to cam full time and I ended up quitting and decided videos were better. I am on a few sites and am now pulling in (took me a while to find my niche!) the same amount of money if not sometimes a lot more than I was when I was camming. I film for a couple hours every day or every few days then put my tv on and watch movies while I upload my videos and write descriptions for them. It can be a long process, but I can get up and walk away and do whatever I want rather than deal with customers. It's definitely do able.

Cherrycrush has a MASSIVE following, on her cam site, on social media, and on reddit. She's incredibly well know, hell I saw her in a 50 gif long post of cat gifs on Imgur the other day. It was the only gif of her and I recognized her immediately and I haven't ever even spoken to her.
Having your own site will be a lot of work too, more so than C4S and yes you can use ModelCentro but unless you want to spend most of your time keeping it updated and marketing, you will find that it's not going to generate much revenue either. If you sell exclusively on MGF, then you will know you can't tell your customers there about your website, so it defeats the purpose. Most of your site's customers will likely be people that have no idea or care that you're on MGF.
You'll get the same answer for all of the sites. Read the forum posts, update regularly, and be prepared for a lot of work. All you have to do on MGF is log in and send messages. You can sell the same 10 videos for the next 10 years and make some money on it, but all other sites will require updating and often.
I still know a lot of people and it does help me on MGF to have a large following. I've been there done that you know? But I'm much better at making my own stuff than faking it in "real porn" that's why I only made about 40 videos...did a Lil radio thingy...In Tampa and stuff. But a lot of the guys I've recruited were from other sites. I just know there's a wider audience. It just seems most C4S sites have a theme. Like incest. Or golden showers. That is definitely a kink site. That first post with the rules of course it's old because C4S has everything

The short answer is: yes you can. If we define full time living as $4000 / month (with family), then I think a lot of models could actually pull it off - on c4s alone. However, that would take a normal, very dedicated, hard-working individual a few months to reach and I am not sure if you can hold it up.
Contrary to what a lot of people think, the stores with the most clips are not the top stores on c4s. There seems to be a critical mass, but it's not like the more clips = the more earnings. In fact, we live day by day. You can be #1 for months, then you are ill 3 days, no updates and you drop down the list already.
But even updating daily does not guarantee your sales.
Robolust female training is the store with most clips I know and often see around. It's sometimes in the top 50, sometimes even higher up, often no where to be seen. It has 24415 clips and is being updated more than daily since 2007. In fact, 8 * 365 = 2920. So if they had updated daily for 8 years, they would only have 2920 clips. They update an average of 8 times / day if you calculate that. Still, they are not always in the top 50 (they are #49 at the moment)
I learned that, to get up, you need to update a lot. But when you are "on a roll" - customers could actually "complain" (that really happened to me) that you update too often. Who can afford to buy 8 clips a day? Imagine a customer that really wants to collect your stuff, you might overwhelm them and "force" them to quit buying. Or people take your content avalanche as granted and start picking the good bits only. Or they get bored. Or they think, your stuff is not special anymore, seen as there are 1000's of your clips. Or or or..
This thought is actually worth writing an article about I guess. The bottom line seems to be: when you have created your buzz and have a following and do well, it's not necessarily bad for your business to slow down a little. Making 1-2 clips / day could be the golden rule. So less work means the same amount of money, which is great.
The downside is, you have reached your limit. As it's not possible to increase sales by sheer updating, you have to start doing something else. I know a few things about that "else". I actually have a few drafts ready on adult-income, but some of that info is really worth money in my opinion (aside from the work I put in) and I am still trying to get a payment processor. It seems that ebooks = high risk. Whether porn or not. So I am limited in my options - again.
Don't be shocked please. I plan to keep the site as open as possible. I will probably publish all articles in a way that they are very useful in their free version, just withhold some really valuable information for those who buy the article. Information that I think will pay for itself within a day or two in that case, which should be very reasonable.

Wow I am so happy I did not give up on that post. Murphy's law. That one time I don't ctrl + a ctrl + c my long post and just send it, I get caught in a captcha loop and the page is not loading. Then, when I go back, the private message popup - pops up. Then my post was gone :( I was so frustrated. Then I nearly quit the page when I saw that tiny "restore auto-saved post button". I prayed and clicked it. Thank you lord. Thank you internet. Thank you cookie forum.
That just aside, as I am really relieved my post was not gone.

That's around my monthly goal right now. Last month I got almost 1/4 of that. I put a lot of work into my store, but I didn't dedicate 30-40+ hours a week to it. I need roughly $3000-5000 a month and I'm happy. :) (I got kids and high rent). With my updates, I didn't overdo the updates and put quality content on the store rather than quantity. I felt that making too much will overwhelm them. I however want to get over the 1K mark and am not sure what to do. I think it's because I'm about 2 niches and I need to branch out more?

Whats is best?
To have niche pay-sites (2-3 for example). Monthly fee 30$, renew fee 30$.
To have big c4s and i4s stores.
And another question.
Source video is 4K.
Which resolutions i can sale?
640x360, 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3840x2160?
Sinna (2pee4you)

The thing is, there is still a lot to test and to write, but it's all very time consuming and needs dedication. The quantity of your updates is important, as many people already noted, but the quality sure is as well. If people buy their first clip and it's not good, they probably won't come back.
@boyru I shy away from monthly subscription sites. If I were to make one, I would make it with drip feed content, so that clips will be unlocked for download when time passes. I would not want a guy to download all my clips in 1 month for $30. If he were to upload them for free I would have a serious problem. Making that drip feed site is such a lot of work though and I don't know if it would ever pay off. I have the adult-income project and I also have two infants. So yeah, I can't tell you about that.
Only 1 more thing: If you are in europe (which you are not, but others maybe) and you sell the clips yourself, you have to pay a tax of around 20% that you don't have to pay when selling through a U.S. site (like c4s). With your own payment processor taking around 15%, your are at 35%. No hosting or website yet, no customer service, no chargeback and refund fees and only 5% short of what you get from c4s.
So in my opinion and for myself (living in europe) it's pretty good to sell on c4s versus having my own site.
You can only offer 2 file formats and 2 resolutions each as per the new rules on c4s. e.g. mp4 and wmv as file formats, then offer a high and low resolution each. Which resolution is up to you. It's not like I have a note saying which resolution sells best.

Okay. You are right!
My custom billing locates in USA.
They take government tax from all incoming, than they take 15% billing fee.
I have unique and full control of members. I can exclude 99% anonymizers, proxies and other drones from access to the site.
With c4s i can not place russia/ukraine/turkey to black list of bad contries(
Bad new about 2 resolution for 1 video.
I have ~100 videos in 4 resolutions 640x360 for 1.5$/1min, 1280x720 for 3$/1min, 1920x1080 for 4$/1min, 2560x1440 for 7.5$/1min.
I need to remove some resolutions today...

This is what happened to me as well. I was camming up until a year and a half ago. I discovered C4S and decided to try it out. It took me about four of five months but I was able to quite camming totally and only do C4S, which is the only site I really make clips for. I tried out Iwantclips but that site is not even comparable to the traffic and sales I receive at C4S. My only income is from C4S & I can fully support myself. It IS possible to do.
I work 3-4 hours a day and upload my videos. And then I love that I can have more freedom this way instead of sitting waiting to see if anyone will buy a show with camming. Although to be honest every now and then I do miss it lol I enjoyed the interaction.
But with C4S I just love performing and trying out different fetishes. Plus I feel my natural kinkiness is a big plus. I'm not technologically savvy either and just do some very basic editing. I still get great sales when I put in the work and upload new, interesting content. I don't have a twitter and I don't do any type of marketing. Yet. My problem sometimes is myself. I can become a chronic procrastinator & I can get distracted easily & this can hinder my work. Which I hate. I wish I was more driven sometimes. I really do. But this is how it is right now and I know it's only up me how successful I can become.
I feel I needed to rant a little to motivate myself to make some videos right now lol. Thank you for reading =D

See, that's what I find so fun about C4S, is that there are always new categories or fetishes to explore. I know I haven't reached my limit there (sales wise) as I see potential customers in other categories I haven't explored yet. I tend to have a group of categories I enjoy and stick to those, but once in a while I try new categories and I'm pleasantly surprised! It exposes you to new customers who maybe haven't come across your store before.

Personally, I say C4S. Had a paysite for years, too many headaches. Why give all of your content for one monthly fee when you can charge them PER CLIP? Plus, there are guys who use those downloader programs to do 'site rips' of your entire members area and then share it all over the net. Posting it on tube sites or in forums. And there are the cheapskates who download all of your content the first month not rejoin for another year or so and then download all of the past years updates.

This is going to be part of why you aren't getting many sales. I wouldn't spend the extra money on slightly higher resolution. You're wasting a LOT of time uploading videos in so many resolutions, no wonder why you're too lazy to write new descriptions for your videos. It's already a pain in the ass to upload one videos on multiple sites, I can't imagine uploading one videos multiple times to one website.
I'd recommend 640x360 and 1920x1080, but I would charge the same price for them both. There's no reason to have so many resolutions for each video and it clutters your store. If I saw the same video 4 different times I wouldn't make it past the first page.

I'm going to bug you guys with something I bugged you about before so bare with me lol.
When I go to upload a clip to c4s the only option is the raw, unedited clip. It doesn't matter what file I put the edited version as soon as I go to upload it, it just doesn't show up at all. However they still are there and I have no trouble accessing them at any other time except when I actually need them lol. I think this is having a lot to do with my lack of sales because I can't offer the quality that I would like. At the very least I want to be sure everything is watermarked. (thx btw for telling me how to do that :) ).

I am little confused....when you go to upload a file, you have to choose from the location on your computer to upload it from. Are you using the "New Uploader Add/Del files"? Because when you click the ADD FILES button, a window pops up on your computer which is the location you usually upload the files from. You know how at the bottom of that window there is FILE NAME and to the right of that is a drop down box to choose the file type? Is it *possible* that the file type is set to RAW and that is why you are only seeing your RAW files and not your edited version? If you check that and set it to ALL FILES *and* you store your edited versions in the same location as the RAW files, you should then be able to see your edited version. Does that make sense? (I hope! lol).

This is what they actually said about formats and sizes, they just want to avoid spamming:
In an effort to help our producers when uploading content, please note the most popular and preferred file formats by customers are: MP4 and WMV
The maximum allowed is TWO (2) FORMATS per Unique Clip.
WARNING: Do not spam updates by adding miscellaneous clip formats. Studios that abuse clip updates to be re-listed in the “Recently Updated” lists will have their clips deleted from the servers without notice.
CLARIFICATION
To clarify yesterday's broadcast message regarding clip formats, please note that the message was seen by ALL producers, it was not directed at any individual studios. Broadcast messages are sent to ALL open studios on the Clips4Sale network of sites.
Our intension was not to force any studio owner to use only MP4 or WMV. Our recommendation is to try to only use two (2) formats per unique clip. However, you can do HD and SD versions of each format which would equal four (4) clips, if you feel the need to offer more options. Or if you shoot in MOV, you could do MOV and MP4, in both HD and SD as described above.
What we are trying to avoid are duplicate clips added in obsolete formats for the sole purpose of spamming the main and category list pages.
We are trying to explain the importance of correctly uploading formats which are not only relevant to current technology, but also directed toward the changes we are making behind the scenes at Clips4Sale which will enable customers to get clear and correct results from their searches. Our ultimate goal is to increase your visibility as a studio when a customer searches for the content you produce and allow the customer to get the best results when they visit Clips4Sale.
PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to delete anything currently in your studio. It is not retro-active this is just a recommendation as we move forward.
We know that some studios have been using multiple versions to increase their time on the recently updated lists, we have noticed others do it because they are trying to stretch out their content, and some studios also do multiple formats of the same clip believing that our search tools only use the main CLIP CATEGORY and disregard the RELATED CATEGORIES - which is incorrect.
CURRENT SEARCH ENGINE
When customers use our KEYWORD search the following attributes are what is searched the CLIP TITLE, DESCRIPTION, CLIP CATEGORY, RELATED CATEGORIES and KEYWORDS. We have already introduced the expanded search features which now enables the customers to find ANY keyword or related categories currently selected by a producer when initially adding a clip.

That's an incredibly long video and the file size would be huge. If you priced it at even $1 a minute I doubt many people, if any at all, would buy that. It's a lot of money to spend on one video. Why would you want to combine them?
You run the risk of people:
-Not being able to afford it
-Not wanting to invest in a video that costs that much, so they leave your store without buying anything
-Not being able to download it in a timely fashion - or not at all
-People buying your video, downloading, and pirating it, then charging back so now you're out all of that money and lost a video.
One of my biggest spenders said that 7 minutes is the most ideal for him when he buys videos. He's given me video ideas that have made me thousands of dollars off of and he used to be a sub in a lot of pornos. I trust his advice. I keep my videos around 6-13 minutes in length and charge $10-15.
Longer videos do not mean better videos or more money earned. I have 200mb down/50mb up and I can download pretty much any video in a matter of a few minutes, but when I use my laptop's wifi and I get 40/20 I HATE trying to download anything, so many issues. I would never spend and download a video of that price/length.
----
What I see from you is that you are overcomplicating and overthinking everything. You are asking questions I think you already know the answer to and want validation. Obviously, we have provided you with enough information to fix things, but you still refuse to post your store link so we are limited in what we can help with.

That is one truth. The other truth is, some of those studios use camera guys, hire models, have a post production guy / team, lights, sound of high quality etc. which can cost them so much money, that their actual earnings are not that high.
When the new update came and revealed the resolutions people post in, I was very surprised to see Tara Tainton, long time #1 studio, with a max resolution of 720x405. It's not a high quality resolution to me.
Most of my posts are directed at small businesses / one women/men stores or couples. If you see those in the top 50, it's mostly because they do the best they can in terms of description, quality and previews, use popular categories while also updating often more than once. If you don't have professional production, models etc. you can balance that out by adding more quantity. That works to a certain point, which I tried to show.

Mine looks the same for both stores. If you want to see the sales for e.g. Nov 3rd, go to Sales -> Run Report -> Sales Summary by Title - shows count and total paid for each title
Enter:
From Date Nov 03 2015
To Date Nov 03 2015
Run report.
Send a message to studio support, wait until they fix it. I think they are working on some good changes.

That is one truth. The other truth is, some of those studios use camera guys, hire models, have a post production guy / team, lights, sound of high quality etc. which can cost them so much money, that their actual earnings are not that high.
Yes, that's true, some of them do. Probably quite a few. But, if you look closer, you will find some solo models with their studios in the top 50 (mostly Femdom). I don't know the women personally, but I am 99% certain that they shoot their own content, edit, upload, etc.
Most of my posts are directed at small businesses / one women/men stores or couples. And that would probably be a good number of people reading this thread, myself included.
If you see those in the top 50, it's mostly because they do the best they can in terms of description, quality and previews, use popular categories while also updating often more than once.
Well here's the thing. I have looked at the studios of the above mentioned women, and they aren't updating every day or several times a day. More like 5-7 times a week. And their descriptions and quality are pretty damn good. So it IS possible to be a one-woman-show AND make it and maintain a studio in the top 50.
And as far as video quality, that isn't something that is exclusive to someone who can afford to hire someone to edit/shoot their videos. It IS attainable for those who run their own clips store. Get a decent HD camera (camcorder), save your movies at a good quality setting and shell out a couple of hundred for a good set of lights on eBay or Amazon. (Which can be written off as a business deduction) ANYONE can strive to create good quality clips, big or small business.
See if good quality OR lots of clips (quantity) both = lots of sales, why don't we see more studios in the Top 50 that post several times a day? Because I have a sneaking suspicion that those in the top 50 are working smarter and not harder.
I had mentioned this several pages back, I've had months where I've updated LESS and made MORE. ?? Doesn't seem right. You'd think that if you post more, more sales, right? I think it probably had to do with a few things....some months are just better for sales than others and perhaps my updates that month just hit the sweet spot.
I don't want my posts to come off as argumentative, because I'm not trying to be. I just want to add another opinion to the discussion. Good quality is achievable, even by smaller/one-woman studios.

Crap, that wasn't it after all. The act of editing them converted them from a wmv file to a wlmp file which I can't upload :(. Also with the new uploader I can't find anyplace to put the title, description etc.
Damn. :-( What program are you using to convert them? Can you change the output setting to .wmv instead? I'm not sure how you normally add clips to your clip store, but I usually click on the "New Uploader" to upload the files and once that is complete, I click on the Clip Store tab and then select the clip from the drop down box (half way down the page, says CLIP NAME next to it).

Hello…
I have a question regarding GIF making. I make my GIFs for C4S using GIFBrewery. I keep them under 2 MB. My GIFs are a few seconds worth of running video that I have chosen from my clip. I notice that some stores make GIFs that have about five or six "still pics" from throughout their whole clip. I'm not sure I'm making sense here so hope I'm explaining this right. I would much rather have GIFs where I can choose a few "still pics" of my whole video thus would show a better representation of my clip. Instead of just taking a few seconds of video.
How can I accomplish this? I'd appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction, or what program I can download.
Thank you...

I use VLC (it's free--it's by Videolan) and I do snapshots (or screen captures) of the parts I like and then create the gif in Photoshop using layers and animation. I don't know if there is one program that does both. I think you would still have to watch your video to capture the stills you wanted. I'm sure there is a free gif creator program out there somewhere.

Hi, I prefer doing this too...I take snapshots from relevant parts of the clip when I edit the clip in Movie Maker, then make them into a gif using Photoscape.

I am not arguing against you. I am a 1 woman studio. I have a semi-professional camcorder. I have two sets of lights from amazon. I have been in the top 50 for months. Of course I know much more today than when I started and I am working smarter, but had I not posted so many clips, it would have taken me much longer to reach that critical mass that let's you fall back to 1 update / day while keeping earnings constant.
The stores in the top 50 with less than <500 clips and less than a year old, that just seem to climb the ladder from the beginning - like xev bellringer - she came out of nowhere - are very rare and mostly camgirls or businesses who already had a following prior to starting the clipstore, so they brought their jumpstart with them. I don't count studios #40-#50, because they change all the time and anyone can get in there for a moment.
The only studio that I don't understand up there is DSLAF (Dick sucking lips and facials) currently #12. They came out of nowhere and just increase in popularity. I guess they just hit a mega-niche. I can't explain their success.
So, I really don't understand our posts as contradicting, we think in the same direction :)

full movie (concatenated scenes) will be approx. 50 minutes
it will be ~3100mbytes for 1280x720 premium quality
i spend ~3 minutes for uploading, we have up to 1gbit/s connection in russia
i decide to sale full length movies via oldest AlloPass.Com (hipay.com)
they take 33% tax
question of the day
which time is better to activate fresh clips?
xx:27am and xx:27pm or xx:57am and xx:57pm?
Please read: http://adult-income.com/clips4sale-clip-length-guide/
Edit: This is really the last time I am answering, as I think you are starting to troll us.
xx:27am and xx:27pm are better (not very good though) as xx:57am and xx:57pm would mean anyone updating at the full hour would push you down the list within 4 minutes - and many stores who schedule clips, schedule at the full hour. Which automatically means the best time to update is shortly after the full hour. But that's explained on adult-income as well. I think you could profit from reading a little more.

Is there anybody here who have been nominated c4s clip of the day by the c4s twitter account?
I've been c4s clip of the day two times this week... I don't think it's gonna give me exposure because people have so much stuff on their feed. Also when you check their twitter account you will see that there is more than one clip of the day. The "clip of the day" is not showing on their actual page. So why do they nominate these clips of the day? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm wondering why I have been chosen 2 times in the same week? They want to encourage me? Or is it just pure coincidence? They didn't choose my best vids either, it's very random...

Usually I just upload them from the old uploader because I can do the description ,categories etc all at the same time, however yesterday I tried using the new one and it found the edited clips with no problem, I just couldn't use them because of their format.
I wish I was more tech savvy. I'm trying but it's a steep learning curve for me at my age.

@Sinna….It's funny you mention Xev Bellringer. I also remember when she popped up on the Top 50 out of nowhere a few months ago. I was like WHO is this?!?! lol And where did she come from? But she seems to do really good work. Her GIFs are great & her stories are creative & enticing. And like you said she might of already had a big following.
As far as the Dick Sucking Lips & Facials studio….I noticed that one too. I find POV blow job videos are always usually very popular. With DSLAF it is mostly only black or hispanic girls. So I guess a lot of people want to see that. If you notice Mark's Head Bobbers & Hand Jobbers studio is mostly only white girls. So I guess that is how they are different.

What you're doing is saving the project so that you can open it again in Windows Movie Maker. WLMP file stands for Windows Live Movie Project. You probably should save the project so that if you ever need to go back and edit the video again, you don't have to start from the beginning. However, if you want to save the video, not the project, you have to do something different. So open Windows Movie Maker and do all your editing of the raw file as usual. Then go file > 'save project as' and save the project. Then, to get an actual video, instead of clicking 'save project as' in the file menu, click 'save movie'. Then it will come up with some options "for high definition display" which is 1080p, "for computer" which is 480p and "for email" which is 240p. Or you can scroll down and click "create custom setting" if you want to do something different (like 720p for example). Once you've click whichever option you want, a save box will come up. Find where you want to save the file to and type in what you want to save it as, and then underneath the box where you write the name of the video, there is a dropdown box labelled "save as type". The default will be "MPEG-4/H.264 Video File" which is an MP4 file. If you want WMV instead of MP4, click the "save as type" dropdown box and select Windows Media Video File. Then it will take a while to save (it takes time to render the new video with all your edits) but once it's done, you will have a WMV video file. Hope this helps.

I have 22 sales (in 4 hours) for one 1000% extreme clip in 2014 year. But i was not listed in "clip oof the day" section.
I've earned 318$ in one day.

I agree - DSLAF totally found a mega-niche. I don't think it's the "white girl" thing for Mark Rockwell (head bobber) - instead he relies on getting big porn star names (and their corresponding costs I'm sure) to do what he does -- Girls like Riley Reid are big stars in their own right, guaranteeing a level of sales and keeping him in the top 10 overall.
There are definitely other "head scratcher" studios in the top 30 -- ones that have no apparent external fan base, poor video quality, mediocre models and still are up there. I'd like to know their secret sauce LOL.
For what its worth, I agree with Sinna -- if we don't post at least daily we have seen pretty big drops in sales. We are also pretty new (launched in July).

I agree. It amazes me that so many commercial sites allow unlimited downloads. Guys with download programs could rip a whole site in days. Their $30 subscription fee won't even cover even the bandwidth charges that the studio incurs.
My guess is the big guys have an army of lawyers scouring the web and doing continuous DMCA takedowns -- and their total volume of sales makes up for the pirates and thieves.
I have close to 100 clips now, and I'm thinking about a pay subscribe site, but I also don't have a team of lawyers and bandwidth for small sites is 9 cents per gigabyte, which adds up.

LazyCat,
Actually, I do not think studios in the top 30 have mediocre models if people want to pay for them. Plus how do you know about their external fan bases? Actually, I have seen a lot of the top studios advertised in different sex forums and porngraphic websites. You can get a lot of fans from www.darksites.net and other webdirectories if you have some sort of great niche like femdom . These websites are part of the secret to their success. :)

She was a successful camgirl on Streamate before transitioning to clips. Even so it was surprising to me how fast she skyrocketed on C4S but she most definitely had a fan base in place.

Hence my statement "apparent fan bases". No web site. A URL that points straight to clips. Doesn't come up on google search. Very small or nonexistent social media following. A rabid fan base on a niche web site would not be apparent :-)
