Just out of curiosity...how was your Dec and Jan?
December was my best month ever at 1/5 of my entire year's earnings - $2,500
January I made $1,500.
I generally average around $800 a month because I had quite a few months where I made between $650 and $800.

Sounds similar to myself. Dec was great, Jan was good too, just not as great as Dec and this month is steady, but the sales aren't flowing as easily as the previous 2 months.

Has anyone ever tried paid ad networks like trafficjunky? (putting up their own banner ads to promote their studio). If so, was it worth the cost?

LazyCat - My partner and I were only just discussing that the other day, we are thinking about it.

This reminds me.....in the C4S admin, there is an ADVERTISE button (in-between MEMBERS and STATS) but when you click on it, you get a page that says "Coming Soon", but it's said that for ages! lol There are sub-buttons on that page--Advertise now and Ads Listing--but again, just "Coming Soon". I wonder if they have any plans for that....eventually.
The thing with paying for advertising is that if there isn't some traceable way for me to see that it's making a difference (read: sales), I can't see the point of putting money into it.
Back when I ran a paysite, there was a way to do this (through CCbill). There were codes used in the links and I could tell when a sale came from a particular site. So I knew who was sending targeted (and converting $$$) traffic to my site, and who wasn't.

I totally agree with this! Since we have no way to hook up Google Analytics to the checkout page (or any other analytics), it's impossible to track conversions back to their source. The poor second cousin is overall site traffic, but that's just a guess because the conversion rate from ad campaigns will likely be lower than normal traffic.
I'm planning to run tests for a few weeks and watch average revenue numbers over time. But there are so other many variables (like current clip popularity, general ups and downs) that this is unsatisfying also.
I wonder if conversion tracking is on their radar or if they have a workaround? I admit, I haven't specifically asked the question to support.

Ok, I have two very stupid questions so don't laugh :D.
How do you log into your members area to change pricing, add pics etc. I figured out how to view it but not how to change it. I'd pretty much forgotten about it until someone joined and got to watch close to 200 vids for about15 bucks. >:(
I tried to set up Google analytics but it needed my gmail which is what I use for Facebook etc. Is that safe? I am so scared of accidentally linking things especially Facebook

In your clips4sale admin, go to "members" -> "members settings". "Members" is the 5th tab from the left. You know, where "home" is the first tab, where you see your sales overview and "clip store" is the second tab, where you add clips. I think it's so obvious that you didn't see it.
Google analytics needs your gmail, but facebook has nothing to do with that. If you are worried, use a different email for facebook. Or create a new gmail account for your google analytics setup (I would recommend that option).

Sorry but you just had to be negative on my post, huh? I am sorry about your problems with your clip store but my post was about my sales in February being great. You are always complaining and bellyaching about your sales. However, everyone gives you great ideas about getting better sales but no....you want to continue to complain. Do you advertise anywhere? I advertise everywhere that I can because I know that my clips are a tough sale. But I keep making clips, advertise to my audience, and putting my work out there. Maybe you should do the same :)
I have 10 sales on my exclusive pay site. I have ~500/daily unique google visitors for keywords "facesitting, trampling, boot fetish, etc." and dont have sales. In 2010-2012 i have 4-5 signups daily with similar traffic stats. Customers dont want pay $32/month and get hundreds videos...
I dont say about c4s store. C4S store has normal sales for ~400/daily visits.

I actually had problems with one gif yesterday. It would not display for me, nor for c4s staff. They refreshed the servers and then it would work for them, except on chrome. It didn't work for me on chrome, firefox or IE. We tried everything. In the end, I uploaded a new gif and that works now. They had the tech guys look into it.. I don't know what the issue was this time, but I am having this about twice a year and normally, waiting helps :)
By the way, I am writing a gif guide for adult-income. I am pretty far already. I hope that will be useful to people.

Hi Everyone! I am attempting to resize my clips using Handbrake & I'm following these instructions: // So far, it has taken an hour and 50 minutes (with still an hour and 15 min to go...) to compress a clip that's only 5 minutes and 30 seconds long. Am I doing something wrong or unnecessary? I use Windows Movie Maker to edit & watermark my clips - but that has resulted in files that are too large for c4s. Ideally what I want is something that can convert videos into both mp4 and wmv & make the file small enough for clips4sale. Is Handbreak too expert-level for someone not especially computer-savy? I tried to use the preview feature but it says "unable to detect VLC player" huh?
Also, thanks to all of you for the great info in this thread!

Boyru: I've noticed that sometimes my animated gifs show as still images, in my store and also in other stores, for certain clips. I thought it was my internet. They sort themselves out though.

Windows Movie Maker can save the clip in lower bitrate = smaller filesize. However, I encountered some discrepancies between what you ask the program to do and what it does, so I changed to xmedia recode (freeware). You can read how to recode with that into files allowed by c4s here: http://adult-income.com/clips4sale-guide-for-newcomers/#encoding
I used handbrake just today. I only use it for promo clips. Throw in the mp4, set the destination and click start. No setting changes necessary. Filesize is reduced by about 60%.
VLC player is a media player that is free to download and is widely used because it's known to play basically every file. Seems like you don't have it :P
You can check this guide for filesizes on c4s: http://adult-income.com/clips4sale-clip-length-guide/
As long as you keep your bitrate around 7000, you should be fine. That is also good enough. Youtube recommends 6000 for HD videos.

So... hi everyone? I've been lurking this thread for the last couple of days wondering about asking for advice. I've got a new c4s studio up, and although I'm getting views I'm selling literally nothing, so far. It's only been a couple of days - is it normal for it to be super slow at the start, or do I need to drastically rethink what I'm doing? It's non-naked fetish-y stuff, so I don't know if maybe it's one of those things where people are just shrugging and figuring they could see the same thing on youtube for free.

Hi Carys, Sinna has a guide that may help you. If your clips are femdom, you'll find that there's a glut of clips in that category but you could still break into that area. When you look at the category list, you'll see how many categories there are for the same fetish and from the update list, how frequently the category receives new clips. If you wanted to share your store number we could see if anything stands out to us that could be changed to help sales.

hi Katy. thanks for replying :) I did actually read a lot of Sinna's guide already and found it really helpful while I was getting everything set up (thanks Sinna btw, your site is amazing!) I've tried pretty hard to research and look at how the categories work and everything, but still... literally nothing has sold despite plenty of views, so I guess I was just wondering if this is normal for a beginner or not.
The categories I've been updating in so far aren't femdom-related, though I would actually like to try doing some clips in that general area at some point since I think I'd have fun doing it. Maybe I should just keep throwing clips out there, or try a few different categories and see if I have better luck, I don't know.

It's only been a couple of days - is it normal for it to be super slow at the start, or do I need to drastically rethink what I'm doing? It's non-naked fetish-y stuff, so I don't know if maybe it's one of those things where people are just shrugging and figuring they could see the same thing on youtube for free.
For a very few select people a clipstore can be an instant success, because their clips are so unique and good that many people want to buy them, which then spreads through word of mouth in certain niches that have a big dedicated fanbase of people willing to buy clips to support (as opposed to have one buy them and then post them to the closed members board). VERY rare. (I would say xev bellringer, but I didn't do a lot of research so don't call me out on that one. She also has a famous name)
It could also be a studio that has found a niche, great content and did a lot of advertising beforehand. Very rare as well. (like dick sucking lips)
Then there is a mixed option, where you participate in a dedicated community (either to set yourself up or because you have that fetish or interest yourself) for a longer time. Start sharing homemade clips and pics without watermark. Total amateur without financial interest. A crowd of followers will gather and at some point, there could be demand for opening a store, similar to what letty did. In that case, your sales would explode right from the start as well. That is also very rare, but might just be a little more predictable.
A little less rare and also exploding would be popular camgirls or pornstars that open a store or someone opening a store and having a cast of famous porn stars in their clips. Those stores immediately have a big fanbase that buys clips. (like daphne's fantasies)
However, most people would be opening the store, uploading ten clips, maybe doing a little twitter and a little advertising here and there and wait for sales to come in while making more clips. That's what 99.99% are doing I would say and that's "normal".
If you are one of those who do it the normal way, then it's not unusual to have to work very hard for at least 2-3 months to really start up your store. You have to endure. I don't have a recommendation about when to decide that your category just might not work the way you try to crack through, but I personally would try at least a month before giving up on a category that qualifies (meaning at least both toplists are filled). And by that I mean a month of constant updates, at least daily when you are brand new (don't update if your store is on top already, post in a related category then).
If you try several categories, lay a focus. Depending on your activity, try 1-2 categories, 2-3 or even 4-5. I wouldn't go more than 5. Getting up into the toplists helps a lot and if you spread out on 100 categories, you won't climb any lists.
Go into the top stores like missa or tara tainton. Sort the clips by date and look at their first stuff. You'll see that they started where you are. Endurance. And then, after some months and with a clip base for customers to choose from, you might just be able to lean back a little and get away with an update every few days. If your following is dedicated.
That's if your a normal store :)
You don't have to be naked to be in the top or sell clips. I think many goddesses never go naked.

Hi Sinna, thanks for your feedback! It's incredibly reassuring to hear that it's normal to take a while to get sales - I wouldn't have minded if I'd at least sold one or two, but zero is pretty depressing. But, I definitely don't have a pre-existing fanbase to work with - I am going for a category I've got an interest in myself, but I've always just sort of been on the sidelines and never produced much content myself before - so I guess I'll try to keep going and put more effort into advertising and stuff for a while before giving up or switching categories.
At the moment I'm going through and rewriting my descriptions since I felt like the ones I had up before were sort of generic and didn't feel like 'me' or do much to help the clips stand out from any others. Maybe that'll help a bit, and I have a few more clips in reserve to put up tonight, so I'll see how that goes.

I wish you all the best. If you feel comfortable, you can still put up your store link so we get some insight :) No one will judge you or criticize just to be mean. If you want to keep it to yourself for any reason, that's no problem either. Maybe you have unique ideas that you want to protect :)
How long have you been open? Which date? Did you update since then? How many clips can or are you willing to make? I guess you wouldn't tell us the category, as that would be like giving your store link.. so there is only so much we can help you with.
However, I understand if you just wanted some reassurance and try on your own. You really have to build it up. If it's any help, this month hasn't been particularly great for me and many others, so you might have been a bit out of luck in terms of timing as well. But again, it's normal to not have many sales (or any) in the beginning. I would start to really worry when you had two weeks without a single sale (where you updated regularly).
The "fun" part is, this can be so depressing but then again, it all can change within 1 second. When you get a nice order. It's cruel but it's fun as well :)

So about two minutes ago I got soooo excited because someone purchased an insane amount of clips from my store. I've gotten big orders before but this is a record. That excitement quickly dissolved into nervousness since now i'm thinking it's a stolen credit card. I guess time will tell. The customer picked clips from two similar genres. It wasn't random clips so I'm hoping that's a good sign? Who knows lol. Omg. Ok.
Hope it's legit.

Hi everyone, I'm new here posting publicly but I've been lurking awhile. I love the advice and support offered here, and I think this is a great forum in general with a nice community. I'm in this thread particularly because I am seasoned in another area of the adult industry but clips4sale has always stumped me...(I'm just now getting into twitter.) I was wondering without intruding if it would be ok to post my clips4sale link and anyone who is willing have a look and give me their opinions. I've sold few in the past before getting back into things but I've been try to do videos every week and schedule uploads and I haven't been selling a thing. I know this month has been particular rough on everyone but I'm just wondering if there are a few things I am missing. I know its also competitive in the industry I'm in and so I have been putting A LOT of effort in DIY editing and etc as I'm pretty handy with graphic designing and I learn fast with editing (although gifs are still giving me a hard time.) Thanks and Sinna your guides have been particularly helpful with helping me pace myself and not get so caught up on sales.

Ellie, February was a crappy month. It's not you. For some really strange reason, as the month went on, it felt harder to make sales. I was trying to find a way to rationalize it....was it Valentines Day, Spring Break, people getting their taxes done and finding out they owe....WHAT?! lol I'm just chalking it up to it's just a tough month to make sales.
A brand new month is upon us soon and fingers crossed that things will be on the upswing! :-)

Hi!
I'm Melissa, i've just opened a store on c4s, and that has been possible also with your great advices and tips. =)
I've got just one question that i cannot find the answer in the guides.
How do you sell custom videos? And by custom I mean exclusive/just for one user. I've got some requests but I don't know how to reply'em.
Do you make them? How do you send them, and get paid?
Really thank you for sharing your experiences.

Hello,
I sometimes make customs and it took me a while, but I have a payment processor for them now. I can't really help you with that, but I bet others know options. About sending the custom, that is pretty easy. There are many options from dropbox to google drive to wetransfer to having your own site and giving the customer a download link. I host the files myself, because I can add a download counter to see if anyone else is getting the files and it's more secure.

Ended with 550. Not bad but certainly could have done better. Lots of $0 days this month. Next month will be better. This past week took a dive because my husbands grandmother (like his best friend) just passed yesterday evening. He was in shock then... but today, holy hell. He's a mess right now and it's not been a fun day to be awake. :( I don't think I will make clips until the dust settles.

You can get processing for customs with Payoneer if you are with one of their major partners like MyFreecams, Streamate etc., for private loads, or you can ask Loveshooks here on the forums to make you a page and process customs for you through her site, livecammodelshows.com. She designed one for me it looks like this www.livecammodelshows.com/sophia-sylvan I love it, the forum really streamlines the process. I also use Verotel Flexpay but it is very complex to set up, you'll need the help of a programmer if you aren't one yourself.

Don't ever use Paypal, Google Wallet for customs processing. They are not adult-friendly. I am banned from Paypal for life for using it for adult purposes. I also don't recommend using Amazon gift cards, they could put what it is for in the description and get you banned from Amazon too.

i see only "Please contact support if you need to edit your profile."
Contact them. That's what it says. Open a ticket and let them know what you're trying to change.

You have to contact support. Go to "producer support" at the bottom of the page then open a new ticket telling them what you want them to do. They locked down profile stuff after the password phishing emails.

do they open profile editing (min. payout and cellular phone) in future?
February was my best month yet. I know a lot of people complained about this month and it did start slow for me but by the end I was very happy.

Well things definitely picked up a bit for me as last week went on... plus I just checked and I'm in the top 50 for my main category! Which I'm really surprised by... I mean, it's a smallish category but big enough to have full top-50 lists. So hopefully that'll help me get more views/sales?
@EllieGold, I'm so sorry... I hope you and your husband are doing as ok as is possible right now.

Just 40 more minutes left to make screenshots of your store admin for your personal reference, before everything is wiped clean for the next month. I am done and will go to bed. The past days my store did better so lets hope that continues in March :)
Cary I think being in the category toplists is one of the most influential factors on sales
