^^^ I would only add that the EVI D100 by itself has more than enough resolution to convert to true HD. But the actual analog to digital video conversion results are dependent on the performance of whatever video capture card / module is being used.
Those are pretty much my exact thoughts on Blovely's comment. I think what she was noticing is that the image appears darker/more shadowy with the evi D100 then it does with a logitech. But that is easily fixed with back drops and lights, albeit I do not have all the room in the world for those things in my space.

Yes Jenni its the dark shadowy effect that erks me. I'll have to look back into the sony again now that I know its fixable. Melonie, what capture card/module card do you suggest to be able to convert to true HD?

Well I will tell you the black magic conversion device is super nice, but will not work with the evid100. This was verified by blackmagic support. The blackmagic will work with a Sony handycam.

If you guys are looking for PTZ and remotes, I don't know if anyone had seen these, but check out these sites. They both have a huge variety of products to pick from.
http://www.trackercam.com/TCamWeb/index.htm
http://www.321cam.com/videosolutions/ProductSpecs.htm
I also found this one on Amazon and I have noticed a huge price drop in other sets like this. :) This is just for reference.. but a friend of mine owns this one and one from the first posted site, she LOVES it. She just had to find a remote for it. But, I totally suggest looking at the other ones above. They are priced very reasonable and work with the cams we work with.

I had an ORBIT when I first started camming; and it was good for doing content with but it wasn't good enough for me when I was live on air. I have had the best of luck with the 9000, c910 or the c920 for that matter.
Hope that information helps!

I have a Canon Vixia M300 (I think?) and it's awesome. Does anyone know if there's a way to use it as a webcam? I'd love to get a webcam with a remote and stuff, but I don't want to drop a couple hundred bucks and have it suck. My two year old Logitech c910 (I think that's the model number) has been really awesome.

From reliable technical sources ...
The Logitech BCC950 conference cam essentially starts with the guts of a C920 webcam ... which means that you're 'stuck' with on-board H.264 hardware video encoding ( with preset compression parameters ), as well as 'stuck' with software based zoom ( which throws away video resolution to achieve a zoom effect )
The conference cam mounts the guts of the C920 webcam on a pan / tilt motor base. The same base also incorporates the microphone. Therefore activating the pan / tilt motors will make noise that the microphone will pick up. Using the Logitech 'stalk' doesn't help much with pan / tilt motor noise, and makes the video less steady due to possible movements / vibrations in the 'stalk'

The specs on this camera show that it has both analog 'component' video output, plus HDMI output. Thus it should be no problem to use it with just about any video capture accessory ... like Black Magic, El Gato, Osprey, Matrox etc. ... for an awesome webcam video stream.

Does this camera come with remote control I need to upgrade my Sony - HC62 camera I love how it has a remote control but I hate how it makes me look graining and I hate being under so many lots to try and fix it so I have been looking hard for a video camera with a remote control and one that ships to Canada I know about the Sony EVI100 camera I never liked it when I was in a studio.
so I am looking for something that has a remote control, that has an harddrive so I can use for webcamming and youtube videos.

I've been seeing some women use webcams with remotes that have pan, tilt, and zoom. I've looked some up and of course they are very expensive, so I might have to wait until I start bringing in some steady income (I'm new to this) before I can invest in something like that.
But I can start researching now! Does anyone use one of these? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. It just seems like that would be so handy so you can move the camera without having to interrupt anything.
Thanks!

Logitech bcc950 is a webcam version. The soni Evo is more expensive and I'm not sure how many people use this anymore. You can also use either a webcam or camcorder with a trackercam pan/tilt base. I have used a camcorder with trackercam and now use the bcc950, which I would recommend for an all round (relatively) inexpensive option.
There are cons to having any pan/tilt set-up though. They are much less easy to move about during shows and they also need much more careful positioning as you are not just clipping something to the screen. Remembering to look at a camera to the side when not reading on the screen is a 'skill' which might not be too easy when you are just starting out.

Most of my Logitech cams had pan, tilt, zoom. It was a pain to use the keypad to do it though, so when I use my laptop I use an external cam to move around.
Or have your comp. on a table with wheels and pull it in close to you.

sorry I should have said - the Logitech bcc950 webcam is remote control. No keyboard/mouse required. All the options I listed are remote control, though the trackercam optional remote will only work zoom on certain camcorders

A lot of them use camcorders. We all used to back in the day because they are a better quality. I am hearing a lot of good things about the Logitech BCC950 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-960-000866-Conference-Cam-BCC950/dp/B0083I7Y8W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386981108&sr=1-1&keywords=logitech+conference+camera.

Thanks for all the info! I've been looking into different Logitech cameras. I put one on my wishlist for now. I have a PC and a Mac that my husband just resurrected from the almost dead (son spilled a whole mug of hot coffee on it, eek! So happy it's not totally fried, just need a new battery), so ti start off I will probably use the internal cameras of either one of my computers, but a separate one seems to be the way to go.

There's quite a few thread on this. I always keep this one bookmarked..."What webcam has zoom with a remote? (https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?165738-What-webcam-has-zoom-with-a-remote)". I've looked into all of the options that Becky listed.
I tried the Logitech Orbit. I absolutely hated it. The quality wasn't that great to me and having to constantly use the mouse to pan, tilt, zoom annoyed me. I used it like once and then put it back in the box. I missed the return date so I still have it, never ever ever use it though.
I tried the Sony Evi-d100 but I didn't like it. The zoom, pan, tilt was excellent but it looked way too dark to me. No matter how many lights I turned on it still looked dark so I sent it back.
I bought a canon HV30 camcorder and was going to use it with the trackerpod but again it looked way too dark. Again I missed the return date so now its sitting in a box collecting dust. I could use it to film clips but ain't nobody got time for mini dv tapes and firewire transfer.
I wanted to try the bcc950 cam but I don't like it enough to buy it.
Now I either want to try a newer camcorder (specifically a canon camcorder with a remote) or the Sony Evi-HD1 camera. I kind of want to get both to see which one is better.
Not a pan, tilt, zoom camera but I mainly used the Logitech 9000 now I use a Logitech c920. Here's a few threads on webcams and what most models use if you're interested....

The logitech BCC950 has some very mixed reviews from cam girls. I see in some of the reviews on there people are saying the pan/zoom is choppy (I would expect that from a software based product so that's no surprise to me), it always returns to the "home" position even if you did not tell it to, zoom is not far enough. I would be willing to give it a try, but at $200 give or take it's not really money I want to be spending right now.
As for the Sony Evi D 100 and lighting issues- it has a aperture of f1.8- f2.9 so light really should not be an issue. The lighting issues probably have more to do with white balance, the capture card colour calibration (this can be fooled with to some extent) or colour calibration within the encoder. Also what many people (including myself) fail to notice is that the camera has a backlight, yes pressing that little button makes a HUGE difference in terms of light.

I use MANUAL Zoom pan & tilt. As in I pick up the camera & place it closer or further away and such. LOL
I have an orb & I love it. It comes with a program to do all those things to, but find actually moving the camera physically to get the angles I want is the best thing for me.
The other camera did not work for me due to the auto-focus feature cant be turned off. Cause my boobs are big as my head other cameras are constantly readjusting the auto-focus & giving me a blurry pic much of the time.
I love the Orb & have cammed with it for almost 2 years now.

Is that the problem? I have the Logitech C615, pic became blurry, bought the C930, same thing. Now half the time I just use the Isight cam in my Macbook Pro with every light in the house behind it. Would love to have a good clear picture that stays that way.

Indeed Logitech now has the C930e 'business' webcam available. It's basically a C920 with the addition of a remote controlled 'digital' pan and tilt. The remote control can also implement 4x 'digital' zoom. Review at
Generally speaking, like the C920 ( and unlike the C910 and other Logitech webcams ) the C930 has pre-programmed built-in H264 encoding via a dedicated chip inside the camera ... which allows for higher bandwidth through a USB 2.0 port, but which makes adjustments to compression ratio and other compression parameters impossible. Like the C920 it has a 'real' Zeiss camera lens. But also like the C920 it makes use of automatic focus and light adjustments ( although the algorithms are supposedly improved ).
In regard to the 'digital' pan, e zoom and tilt, all of these are accomplished without actually repositioning the camera or actually adjusting the mechanical focal length of the lens ( the way a Sony EVI camera does, using small remote controlled motors ). Instead the 'digital' algorithm 'throws away' pixels to simulate pan, zoom, and tilt ... with degradation of video quality being an unavoidable side effect.
IMHO this is a great deal for a 'consumer grade' webcam. However, in truth, it isn't in the same league as the Sony EVI or a good HD camcorder paired with a good HD analog to digital video capture card. Nor is it in the same league as a USB 3.0 compatible true HD digital camera ( like the Point Grey Flea 3 ) which can implement 'digital' simulated pan, zoom and tilt and still have enough pixels left to produce true HD resolution. Of course, the C930 only costs a small fraction of any of the 'professional' grade options.
Logitech has also gone one step further and introduced the BCC950 webcam. Review at
In a nutshell, the BCC950 does away with 'digital' pan and tilt, in favor of actually repositioning the camera via tiny motors moving the camera stem. However, the zoom function still appears to be 'digital' i.e. throwing away pixels. Built-in fixed parameter H264 encoding, automatic focus and light level control etc. all appear to be the same as the C930. IMHO the major price increase to upgrade from the C930 to the BCC950 raises the question as to whether the end result is 'improved enough' to justify the significantly higher price tag ... given that the BCC950 starts to cost a significant fraction of the 'professional' grade options.

Thanks Melonier, but in that article I dont see any mention of a remote control option? It was only mentioned for the Bcc Confereance Cam. Does this mean that the pan and tilt can be operated through software or is there a physical remote it comes with?

I love my conference cam. Its my favorite...but there are no replacement parts. If you drop and break the orbit piece, oh well. They are very durable. Have dropped mine twice in the year I've had it and it works fine. I just get a bit antsy thinking about a worse case scenario. Once I lost the remote for a few days. It was in my laundry. Was about to put my blankets in the wash and it tumbled out. Thank goodness! But if that broke oh well. No replacement part for that remote. Also Im not sure what kind of battery the remote takes? I'm pretty sure that after a year the slow response I've been seeing lately is do to the battery starting to die. Im gonna take it to a repair shop so than can pop it open and see for me.

That is correct. If you want to use a camcorder or one of Sony's Evi's you will need a capture card or capture card device. But you can use a capture card with a desktop or laptop. I'm not sure if you can install a capture card on a laptop but I know you can on a desktop. You will need a capture card device like the "dazzle hd capture device" or "StarTech SVID2USB2NS capture device" for a laptop.

I am currenty using a laptop and a camcorder it, it just a matter of how powerful your laptop is. the camcorder connects using a dazzle video capture usb plug and camera I mentioned already which one I am using. So with camcorders it's just a matter of how powerful your computer is, if your using a laptop it will connect with a usb capture card, and if your a desktop it can connect with usb or PCI graphic card.
I think with lighting and the type of webcams on the market now they are about the same.

I've noticed that the camcorders that have remotes are usually like $700+ unless you get a used or older one. I've brought 3 used camera's from Amazon. I haven't had any problems with any of them, they're just like new.
I don't use a camcorder as a webcam, tried to but the camcorder I intended to use was old so the quality didn't turn out like I expected. I do use a Sony Evi (HD1) camera though. I got it off of Ebay for like 1/3 of the original price. I think you can pretty much get the same effect with a HD camcorder and a trackerpod.
To me it was worth it because its made doing shows alot easier. I love the quality and having a remote to zoom and move side to side is so much easier than moving my webcam all over the place or using the mouse to try an zoom in.
I think the best brands for camcorders are Canon and Sony. I think any model would be good as long as you research it first. I always look at reviews and watch youtube/vimeo test videos so that I know what kind of quality I can expect. You might also want to checkout this thread....>>What webcam has zoom with a remote? Hi girls.
a question.... I currently model on streamate and am forever having issues over positioning my cam for now I usually just positing my cam on top of laptop
I have been watching a few of the top girls on streamate and have noticed their camera seems to move itself.... moving about and zooming in and out without model moving it....
the model I am watching right now for example does not seem to be in a studio but definitely looks as if she is working from home.
My question, does this always mean they are working from a studio or have someone operating their cam or are they using a different camera/settings? it just looks so much better/easier...

I can only speak from my experiences with this, but I had a webcam once that had built in zoom/pan/tilt etc.
I paid nowhere near this much but this is the one I had, or a variation of this kind. I dont remember exactly.

It takes some getting used to, but I love it. The battery in the remote has lasted me over a year. Sound quality is AWESOME. The color is a bit flat... but I think it's worth the investment!
I think there is a way you can connect a JVC cam with remote control and use that as a webcam, but it doesn't pan-tilt like the BC950

Basically 2 options of doing it getting the logitech conference cams bc950 or the e3000. or buy a remote control pan and titl head for a tripod.
Getting one doesn't mean you will magically know where to posting your camera. I find myself moving it around more and more just to get the position right. it does help with in the private shows when guys want something zoomed and you can't really move that well.

I didn't even know there was a such thing as a remote control head for a tripod. Thanks so much minnie!

You can also use a surveillance camera like the Sony EVI-100 but you'd need a video capture device. Or could also use a HD camcorder with a remote tripod head. Here's a similar thread if you're interested...What webcam has zoom with a remote? (https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?165738-What-webcam-has-zoom-with-a-remote)
