This thread is worth an update
Amd ryzen
Amd ryzen r7 1800x 16 core cpu 6950 i7 killer
Amd threadripper 1950x 32 core cpu
These are monster cpus and still cost less than Intel and offer great value for money.
That $2,000 laptop you can have a
Threadripper 32 core 1950x
Ssd or m.2 drive in raid
6tb of storage
16gb ddr4
1050ti graphics card.
For the same price
There is a reason all the tech channels on you tube are raving about these chips because they are cheap and total monsters in compute power.
Or you can buy a pink $200 laptop I am sure it will be fine as it's brand new.
Tech has jumped forward again now and a gamer pc is not the same as a work station.
Gamers use i5 chips games don't need i7 and even experts are questioning why the hell bother with i9 with it's pay for features.
Always aim for workstation type of pc as it will last you longer let you split more sites and even render videos while your working for a productivity monster that will allow you to streamline your business dramatically.
Stay away from 2 core 2 thread computers they are a waste of your time unless your working 1 site.

I have my eye on this machine.
Not sure how many I will be getting but with how small it is I might have one for each site I work or for each screen in my apartment. Since they can mount on the back of a moniter.

I would be wary of using something intended to be a home media centre as a camming pc.
Looking at this heat is going to be an issue as playing 4k uhd isn't that demanding of a pc. Editing in 4k well most use graphics card as rendering can be done inside graphics card rather than the cpu. Cuda and opencl Even a £5k graphics card can struggle with 4k
The leap graphics cards made the rx460 and 1050ti can handle multi displays with ease so the overall cost for what you indeed to achive make be cheaper over all to just buy a single pc with with strong parts than small pc boxes.
Ddr4 v ddr3 isn't really a bother for us. Most ddr3 chips overclock much higher.
So a ddr3 chip when you pop it in a motherboard with run at 1333mhz as that's the speed ddr3 is the fact that a chip is rated to 1866mhz or 2100mhz is that the chips overclock to this speed. All ram is over clocked once past 1333mhz as an example.
It's entirely upto you obviously but since most camsites require cpu encoder rather than a you based encoder it's why I am going threadripper. Even i9 at twice the price isn't keeping up with this thing and all the high end custom builders are using it for a very good reason.
The amazing 6700k which runs smbroadcast at a pretty low cpu% is only 8 cores. So what do you think a 32core of the same speed will be overall for your compute needs.
Or hell if you have the money you could even go amd epyc 64core pc and host your own camsite
Be wary of i7 is all I am saying as faster cheaper is now on the market. Intel's refusal and pricing is a joke even the very latest chips are a knee jerk reaction.

In full disclosure, I don't use it for camming. Strictly use it for video & picture editing. Now my vids don't take 4 to 20 hours to render out but under an hour or less. I have the Adobe Cloud & adding more & more stuff with After Effects to my content.

I don't trust anything with the word Mini in it,sounds like it wont have enough power for more than just basic usage. Gamer & editing machines have the same requirements, so that is where I start. While I still use my now 5 year old Asus laptop, I never like it.
Read lots & lots of reviews on anything you are considering, then stalk a few tech people on twitter for what they use. Also check to see if any recalls or class action law suits on it or past versions ever happened. Then Youtube that one for repairs, see how many videos pop up with people trying to repair a common problem with it. My 1.5 year old HP ENVy has major hinge & separation of the screen problems & I can't close it.

The 6700hq is a beast sam38g
It's 8 cores and a worthwhile investment. It's also the laptop when I get asked what to get I recommend as good deals can be found for it as the 6th gen hasn't been beat for laptops yet. They hold prices well second hand as well being around £500 used.

I use a
Fx-8350 over clocked to 5ghz
240mm aio watercooled
32gb 2100 ddr3 ram
M.2 drive on 990x motherboard
Ssd scratch disk for editing
3tb mechanical hdd
2 x rx480 8gb graphics cards in cross fire
I use mine for cam and editing runs like a beast still
I use a 860k Athlon x4 for my on the fly editing
Over clocked to 4.5ghz
16gb 1866mhz ram ddr3
Ssd for windows
1tb hard drive
Rx 460 4gb graphics card.
I don't use this for camming anymore but it's a handy editing machine for blender intros and my gamer stream
I use a lga775 q9650 on hp8000 as a file server
24tb of space in raid
16gb ddr3
Hd5450 1gb graphics card
Linux mint.
All it does it sit there reading and writing files back and fore from the video recordings to the pcs.
Seriously looking at the new gen of chips as they took a massive leap forward for streamers. And graphics cards even have seperate streaming encoders in them to reduce cpu%

I picked the small tower computers because I want a dedicated machines just for the cam sites I work 2 or 3 of them. I am thinking video editing will happen on the laptop.
The big towers take up a lot of space. Plus the computer uses less resources when its only dedicated for one job as its primary use. Which is probably why my current tower has lasted so long as it has. So its been the Asus Mini or the IntelNUC machines. with the IntelNUC machines you have to buy all the parts since they come barebone towers. at least the Asus Mini come fully loaded and have a dvd drive.
Now the big thing is boosting the router and my internet speed package. then build a machine for video editing.

It would be just 1 tower rather than lots of small pcs.
Matx isn't that big or even itx cases.
The issue I worry about is heat as Intel cpus go up to 80c that's alot of heat for a small fan to deal with and the heat reduces life span of pc.
If only 20% of cpu is used then fine but those i7 can get hot and start to thermal throttle down. They advertise say i7 2.6ghz with a turbo of 3.6ghz for example but you have to have thermal head room for it to run in the turbo.
Because it's on-board graphics as well it will only add to the thermals in such a small case. That's the only worry.
