^^^ and that ties directly back to my earlier post. Over the past few years, the IRS has been developing automatic reporting from the 'spending' side that allows them to detect unreported income. If you buy a house or condo, and in some cases if you lease a house or condo or apartment, an automatic report is generated to the IRS. If you register a car, motorcycle etc. the state DMV makes an automatic report to the IRS. If you take out student grants / loans or pay college tuition, Sallie Mae and your College's Bursar's office automatically report to the IRS. Any 'cash' purchase / transaction over $3,000 ( may be higher in some states ) generates an automatic report to the IRS. And even when the amounts are smaller, banks or money order sales outlets ( including the USPS ) may generate automatic reports to the IRS based on 'suspicious' activity. And of course banks, brokerages, retirement accounts etc. also generate automatic reports to the IRS. In addition, the IRS maintains a cost of living database which tracks the average cost of rent + food + utilities etc. for every different zip code area.

Thus it's super easy for IRS computers to add up all of the money that these automatic reports show that a particular person spent last year, tack on that person's zip code based probable cost of living spending, and compare that total to the amount of income the person actually reported on their tax return. If there is any significant discrepancy, an audit / investigation is likely to soon follow. And this is particularly the case for people who work in business segments where historical 'tax compliance' has been abysmal / under-reporting of actual income has been standard procedure ... specifically 'adult businesses' like strip clubs and adult oriented internet businesses !!!

In fact, as part of the National Health Care Law, IRS funding was increased for the specific purpose of nearly doubling the number of IRS agents last year ! Also, a targeted enforcement unit was formed for the specific purpose of increasing audits / investigations for business segments ( like adult businesses ) where historical 'tax compliance' has been abysmal ! The 2011 tax year will be the first time that these new IRS resources will be 'turned loose'. So we really don't know whether particular tax deductions that have successfully 'flown' in the past will still 'fly' this year !!! What we do know is that this year's tax returns will be 'looked at' more thoroughly than in any previous year.

Thanks, Melonie. I keep forgetting about the Dollar Den. I think I'm stuck in this section most of the time. And I'm sure I need to venture out more.

Just trying to help. While all this information is readily available on the IRS website, I think it can be really daunting to understand and sort through.

And I most definitely would not recommend hiding income. I also recommend taking only deductions that make you feel comfortable. If I took every possible deduction, I probably would get audited. I take a minimum amount of deductions and only deduct items for which I have receipts.

I am by no means a tax professional, obviously. I was just posting info from the website and offering some interpretations of the information. I had success with doing my own taxes before. But there are a lot of really smart girls here, so I'm sure you all can figure it out.

This might seem like a stupid question, but what if you used a SSN for a vanilla job and an EIN for self-employment? I'm pretty sure you can't enter both into TurboTax, so which do I use?

Hey everyone. So, I did some camming in 2014, made about $800 and then quit for a multitude of reasons. (Although I must say that camming was an extremely positive experience as far as the payout, and the customers, and hours and everything. If it wasn't for the risk in future employment, I would have totally kept doing it!)
I may have to file taxes this year.... Is there a way I can put the company name on there as something discreet? I worked for Chaturbate, and instead of putting Zmedia Now, could I put CS LLC (How I was paid) ? So that in the future, when I pursue my nursing license and career, if past employers show up, it would come up as CS LLC instead of Zmedia Now? Thanks so much. Also, if anyone knows of any ex cam girls or ex strippers who went on to be nurses/nurse anesthesiologists/nurse practitioners in NC or any other states who transitioned into their professional life smoothly (as far as background checks and whatnot go)... Could you let me know? I am just a little confused and concerned, because at the time when I got started I wasn't too informed about the consequences of camming, and would really like to fulfill my dream of being a nurse, or working in healthcare. Thanks so much for reading!

Have you received a 1099 from Chaturbate yet? You're going to have to put whatever information is listed on the 1099. You can't really change the company name yourself.

Getting paid via a 1099 isn't something that is going to show up as a past employer on a background check, because you are not an employee. You are an independent contractor.

Thank you! :) I was just a wee bit concerned because some states require for a nurse to sign off an IRS disclosure form before getting a license... But I guess those are just the states that I won't be able to live in if I want a job :/ . I also hope that in the future, more employers won't require signing a full IRS disclosure form in order to get a job. Even if I wasn't camming, signing off on an employer to know everywhere you've ever worked and how much you made is ridiculous and in my opinion, kind of crosses the line.

Usually I would agree
I found this untrue. Streamate showed for me
STREAMATE
I was shocked but some places now have the technology to pull this

I file as a cosmetologist

Okay thank you... So what should I put on my taxes? On my job name as well as company name?

Job name, are you talking about job description? I think mine that I use is Web Administration but there are several you could use.

Your company name you wouldn't need to put your company name unless you have one that you use and receive your checks to that company name.

As far as the company name that pays you, you will need to enter everything directly as it shows on the 1099 that Chaturbate sent you.

What tax software or website are you using? It should be a pretty simple process... you add a 1099 and you should be walked through and all you do is enter all the information exactly as shown on the 1099, that's it.

Sheesh! That's really bad news, the company name showing up in employment records
=p
Thank God that in 2014 Streamate FINALLY changed their name on our documents to ICF Technologies
(just received my earnings statement, and this year it reflects the new name)
I'd been pushing for them to change the name to something unrecognizable, and I'm relieved they finally did.
Re-signing our SM contracts mid-year was part of that much anticipated (for me, anyway) name change.
So going forward from 2014, if the data shows on your employment record, it will show ICF Tech, not Streamate.
Yay!

As for ZMediaNow, it's an unrecognizable name.
If an employer Googles it, like I just did, it just looks like a media site.
So I wouldn't be worried about anyone outing you on a job app.
But maybe I'm being naive?

Hi everyone

I have a question about taxes...

I cam fulltime and its my only piece of income, when I go to an accountant to file my taxes (I havent yet, in the next week I am) is there any way I can avoid saying "Im an adult entertainer?"

can I just say "Im an online entertainer" instead to my tax guy and if he asks "doing what?" can I say something like "kinda like youtube, just entertaining people online"
I work on MFC, clips4sale, and IWantClips but its not like on those paystubs and tax returns it says anything sexual on them so I feel I can just say "online entertainer"

Ide feel so awkward saying "Im an online sex worker" lol im going to a new tax guy this year that my family goes to and keeps referring me to, and I just dont want to bring up "adult work" to the tax guy lol

I mean its not lying, I DO entertain people online.

what do you all say just curiosity?

I say I'm a freelancer which is true but that also depends on what's on your tax return. If your tax return shows adultwork, naked, My Free Cam or something of that obvious, they will know but so what?! I keep it very matter of fact, no in depth details.

Just bring your lovely self and everything you need to do your taxes. Don't give off awkward energy because that's contagious.

I told my accountant that I'm a cam model in a matter of fact way and he hardly batted an eye lid. He did get all awkward when he was talking about how I can write off 'Sexual Apparatus and Wear' (lol) but he was really respectful and non judgemental. The more awkwardness you feel about it, the more uncomfortable people around you will feel in my opinion. I had a few companies not get back to me, which is I assume due to my line of work and the 'clean cut' image they want to keep, but that's their own close-minded, backward thinking issue.
