I am completely new to having a pole but I have a 45mm chrome pole which is always so slippery so I never practice on it. I wanted to get the 50mm brass one but the lady was really trying to sell the 45 saying clubs are going away from the 50 brass ones. Anyways is the brass 50mm much easier to work with? I'm thinking about selling mine if so since it's just sitting in my house.

Xpole doesn't make a 50mm brass- it only comes in the 40 or 45mm.
Your pole is shipped with a kinda protective coating on it- the more you dance on it, the less slippery the pole will be. Tough it out and do lots of spins on static and it will be more usable faster. Chrome is a good all-round material- you do want some ability to slide for spins, some girls find brass too "sticky".
Club pole diameters and materials are all over the place- around here I've danced on everything from 38mm-55, stainless steel, brass, titanium, powder coated, plastic... Since the average club owner knows zero about poles, they'll buy whatever one is prettiest or cheapest or whatever they prioritize.

Are there any poles that can be taken up & down, like a lot, w/o damage? Thanks :)

I think someone said they can take their x pole down and put it back up and didn't have any damage. But I would like to know for sure too. I'm really afraid of making any marks in my new apartment but I really want my own pole at home!

Thanks^. I'm in hotels a lot, so I was thinking that..prob not a good idea. @ my local adult store, they had a Carmen Electra spinning pole but I heard they're not good.

Back when I had an xpole I could take it up and down within 10 minutes no damage. One thing I noticed that scared me is it would sometimes malfunction and slip off the ceiling while I was on it. Very dangerous if you are upside down on it. I was very slim at the time, 115 pounds, so I don't understand why this kept happening even though it was very tight and secure on the ceiling when I would test it out.

^ Really? All these other people were saying its very sturdy and even their heavy guys could go on it without it moving! Did you maybe just not install it tight enough or something?

Yeah, we have one at the club and we've put 4+ girls on it at the same time on spin mode.

I keep seeing people saying they have a hard time with slipping off the pole. Why dont you just buy "dry hands"
When i use my pole at home, i just put some on my hands and rub the pole with it. Gives amazing grip, and comes off the pole with water.
I have a knock off of the x pole, i paid just under 200 for it. Its perfect. I never have had a problem it.

THIS!! All of this is true!!
Especially about the protective coating. However, for those that are uncertain about this, USE GRIP AIDES. They are a savior and they are not cheating. They are there to help you grip better. I suggest Dry Hands for hand grip. I also use Firm Grip for my body, but you can also spray it on a slippery pole to enhance the grip. If you don't have access to Firm Grip, you can also use Stickum for the pole (not for the body though). All three of these grip aides can be ordered from Amazon or eBay.
My boyfriend is sponsored by X-Pole and we are close friends with the X-Pole team. If you have questions that haven't been answered regarding X-Poles, please feel free to pm me. :)

Bumping :)
I'm interested (again) in getting a pole, I'm on X Pole USA site http://xpoleus.com/product/45mm-chrome-sport-ns-model/
It says it's powder coated for better grip, also 40mm for smaller hands, which I have. I do need a removeable one that won't cause damage..

The xpole doesn't cause damage. You have to use a level to put it up correctly. I usually check multiple spots on the pole. You also need a stud finder and a way to reach the ceiling. It's easy to put up and down on a smooth ceiling. The ones w popcorn or texture is weird. It's rubs the texture off the ceiling (in varying degrees) and makes it uneven/loose. I have a shiny metal one, it's SUPER slippery. Its the finish for competition poles, but it forget which one it is. Chrome maybe? I can safely go upside down on it on carpeted or wood floor. You just have to check every time that it's even and tightened correctly.

Thanks^. I have a weird textured ceiling, Idk if it's popcorn, but a rough texture. I think I have a higher ceiling as well, I did a rough measurement it's around 9' +.

You can just rub the texture off the one part of the ceiling you use it & then it will stay level. It's a 1inch thick a circle, not that bad. I doubt anyone would notice. Also when you leave, you can fix it w the stuff they sell in a can or even toothpaste/spackle if you're handy?

Yeah, you would have the chrome finish. I have 50mm chrome and a 45mm X-Poles. The more you use the pole, the less slick it is. However, you can get Firm Grip or Stickum. Firm Grip is a body grip aide, but you can spray it on the pole, too. Stickum is sprayed on the pole only. You'll have the best grip you've ever had.
And to the person asking, she is correct. X-Poles do not cause damage unless installed correctly. You can assemble or disassemble a pole in about 5 minutes and they are transportable. The stand pole fits ceiling up to 9 feet something. X-Poles official YouTube channel has an assembly video which is easier to follow than the print out guide that comes with poles. You can call them before or after making a purchase at any time for questions or assistance. Their US site is http://xpoleus.com/ .

The studio I go to uses studio X-Poles. They are the same as the home poles, just mounted to the ceiling and taller. The x-stages are REALLY heavy and can take some time to assemble. If you are looking to pole at home only, then go with a home X-Pole pole. But if you want to do outdoors stuff like at the beach, park, etc, then an x-stage would be best.

I'm currently looking at groupon and they have $80 poles with chrome or steel finish. Are they worth it? I don't mind getting a slippery pole at home if it makes it easier for me to do a trick at work. We have a very large size brass pole at work. Groupon is just so cheap! Not sure if this is something I should invest in.

What brand? I would not feel comfortable putting my bodyweight on something that cheap tbh.

I really would like to see this thread come back. I am thinking about buying the X-Pole. My club has brass poles but it looks like alot of ya'll are saying that it would be beneficial to get a chrome pole.

I'm a big chrome fan- honestly I find brass TOO grippy most of the time if you plan on practicing static spins and slides.

Is the TG a nice in-between as far as grip goes?
I have been dreaming of having a pole at home for years but it just hasn't happened. Brass is my favourite grip at work if the pole is spinning, but for static mode I agree the pole burn can be intense! I have never gotten to try a TG finish but I hate the super-slippery finish, Idk honestly if chrome or SS is preferable. I find it hard to feel secure with it even when using a grip aide because I sweat like crazy.

I wouldn't recommend stainless steel for any purpose, unless you're using it exclusively on static in a place with no humidity (so you need the pole to help you slide). Stainless is a really old school finish and it has like no grip.
TG is a decent all round finish imo. Once you break it in it's a nice balance between grip but also a reasonable amount of slide so you can use it on static and do drops etc without losing a ton of skin.
Chrome does get very sticky eventually. It seems to get more grippy as it heats up, so if you do extended practice sessions eventually it does get very easy to stick to it. But for hopping on to practice a move/combo quickly once in a while it's not ideal.
As a funky side thing, once the chrome is warm it changes colors when your skin contacts it. So parts of the pole will look green/purple/blue. Not something an audience could see in a club but it's kinda cool when you're practicing on it cause you can see where you put things.

That colour-shifting thing is neat!
Thanks for the review of the different finishes! From your description, I think that in the clubs I have worked, if it wasn't brass poles (most common I've seen for the ones that spun) I guess it was chrome. And yes, stainless steel is the devil.
Does Xpole have a vaulted-ceiling adapter?

Yes they do. The only thing with that adapter is it does need to be screwed into the ceiling. The pole itself will still be removable though iirc
