^ I love that!!! I'm Mexcian and they're hated on up here in Wisconsin so when I say my nationality, I never know what to say after so I try to change the subject.. but that's golden! I'm a goof ball so it'll fit right in with my personality :P

That's so disappointing--I remember the Midwest as being so open minded and tolerant. Tell them you're Brazilian, second generation in the country so you don't speak Portuguese. Or maybe a Native American tribe like Apache. Or you could tell 'em you're Swedish and your LDS grandfather brought back a girl from Mexico to marry when he returned from his mission.

Not all blacks/whites are from america you know

Right on! When my son was competing at a world karate tournament a few years ago, we would be walking down the hall, and approaching us would be some Black people, but as they got closer, they would be speaking Spanish and would turn out to be from Spain. (Hence, not African-American.) Or a group of people with white skin, red hair, green eyes, and freckles would pass speaking Spanish, and they would turn out to be from Argentina.

So funny you say this.. I used to tell people I was Brazilian all the time but after awhile I felt weird lying about that. I'm actually like an 1/8 Fox Sioux Indian but it's such a small percentage that I never mention it. I have really high pronounced cheekbones that give it away though ;)
Yeah, WI is hating really bad on Hispanics because the job market is so bad and people are literally only hiring Hispanics because their labor is so much cheaper.

I have no problem asking a dancer where she is from. It has no bearing whether I like to have her for a dance or not.

I've always used this as an opportunity, especially where I primarily danced because people of my background aren't as common here in the clubs as in the east coast. In fact, there were several instances where custs didn't even know the country I am from, which is a very large country in eastern europe.

But on the east coast, and places like Vegas, where russians are a plenty, I got better results saying I was a Texan....guys seemed to love that for some reason.

When I danced with dark hair, some custies also didn't believe where I'm from, they assume that all russians are blonde and look like Ivan Drago from Rocky or something.....

Personally, I find these type of questions extremely invasive especially if they are the very first ones to be asked.

I've never cared. They're not getting a real answer anyway.

Why do guys ask questions like this? Only once, ever, did a stripper say something really dumb to me. She say's, "So, what do you do?" I just laughed and said, "Are you serious?" and gave her more money.

Some of my other stock answers in a SC are;

I'm a union representative
Why do you want to know?
I'm a gangster

Never ask a guy what he does when he's throwing money at you. In a SC there's no reason to lie or tell the truth about anything.

This is probably the influence of a Japanese girlfriend I had many years ago. It seemed like she never answered a question directly and I didn't expect her to. Her answer would be another question, something on a tangent, etc... One time I asked her, after about 3 months of being together constantly, what she did. She got really angry.

I thought it must be some Zen thing. She had stoopid money but that didn't make her a bad person. She was very nice.

Geez, am I turning this into some kind of DADT what you do for a living thread?

Back to the OP, I'm a guy and I say dumb things sometimes. We all do.

If there is an accent I ask, never thought of it being a bad thing. Feel it makes a nice lil conversation starter. As a female customer it is hard to go to SC's with out lots of the girls thinking "oh great here is a bitch with a man who won't let him tip" but I'm the one who likes SC's, he doesn't enjoy them just takes me lol

By now I don't get the nervous feeling approaching a dancer but at times it is hard to do. Last SC I went to that question deserved a smack upside the head since it was in Puerto Rico but if it's in the States I like to ask.

Is the complete opposite with me!

The worst part is when a very drunk customer starts yelling and screaming saying you're not from X place.

When I was active in the clubs, I asked this question fairly often. Dealing mostly with (SE) Asian girls, it seemed an appropriate question. I can't always distinguish one nationality from another without asking and if it there was a chance it represented a problem for me, why would I be talking to her in the first place? That being said, its not something I ever asked other girls unless they had an accent.

I guess I'm in the minority. I hate when anyone asks this question or it's other variations. I especially hate when they try to challenge my answer. Wtf?

If I hear an American accent I might ask where she's from.
"So, you from cowshit country?"

Basically lol. When asked about my background I just say I'm a Black American. Sometimes people insist I must be this or that. I actually get it the most from other Black Americans!

I only ask that question if the customer ask me something similar, like "do you have another job beside this?" or "do you go to school?" IF not, I do not ask the "what do you do?" question.

As simple as that. Also, I'm a horrible liar; I can be very selective with what things are ok to say/hide, but the lying part is just hard for me.

Ok, I get this. I've gotten this too a few times. It gets tiring so I just tell them i'll be whatever you think I am, & quickly change the subject. Idk, I have an accent and a big round ass. I don't see how that alone can tell you other wise. Lolz. : -P

It's worse when they give you an insulting & ignorant "compliment". "You're hot for a..."

I'm very proud of what I am and the question doesn't bother me at all but if I get any of this, then yeah... I'm with you on that.

^^Never had anyone saying the "you are hot for a _____" but I had have plenty of customers saying more ignorant things, like this line: "so, if you're from PR, why are you white?"

It reminds me to the movie Mean Girls.

"I'm not normally into black girls, but I really like you!"
"I've never had a black girl dance for me before!"

...I didn't want to tell them that I was fucking wasted at that point, lol.

I haven't heard this one yet -although, sorry, I have to admit the idiocy of it did make me giggle a tad. Lol! I have heard from one idiot before that Native American women aren't pretty, though. He said that we have more masculine features & sturdy builds. I just kinda blankly looked at him & walked away after that because I couldn't figure out if he was trying to degrade a stripper or buy a piece of furniture. ::) Asshole

Guys can be such douchebags!

On the topic of masculinity-- I remember my aunt explained to me once that native american women are built like buffalo. I thought that was a cool comparison, lol. I always hear her voice nonchalantly mentioning that whenever people point out that I look like a man, lol.

I hope this isn't off topic but here goes.

I was in an upper level psychology class and the instructor starting asking people where they were from. I forgot the exact responses(countries) but I'll fill in. This is a community college;

One girl raised her hand and said, "I'm from Jamacia!"
Someone else said, "I'm from El Savador!"
Another said, "I'm from Colombia!"
Yet another said, " I'm from Ghana!"

I was starting to feel left out. I raised my hand and said, "I'm from a foreign country too!...............Texas!"
It got a pretty good laugh.

Hahahah! I got that (or a line very similar) from a dancer, to me as customer, twice in the last couple of months while in clubs stateside.

Um... yes, er, I had noticed I look "white", ma'am, I've looked in mirrors since childhood. But thanks for noticing.
