What's with the unnecessary rudeness? :O I thought mods were supposed to be friendly?
or rather, at least behave decently.
The topic of this thread anyway isnt about eating for optimal health benefits, its about losing weight. The OP even requested not to give the eat right and exercise speech. So this whole frantic healthy argument over nothing is wackeeeey! lol
Anyway, doesnt matter if someone eats 1200 calories of twinkies, or 1200 calories of carrots. As long as there is a deficiet, they will lose weight. Is eating 1200 cals a day of twinkies healthy? no, but then neither is eating 1200 cals of carrots...plus itll turn your skin and pee orange. :D And you know what, if someone is eating nothing but fast food for lunch and dinner everyday, then guess what, 1200 cals of twinkies a day is actually a healthy upgrade. Cause fast food is *bad*bad*bad* (Unless you close your eyes while you eat..then the fat doesnt count and its negative calories......)
Anyway, the only reason eating clean worked for me, isnt necessarily cause I didnt eat packaged foods, hey people base and attribute thier weight loss to frozen microwaved wieght watchers stuffs all the time. What made it work is that I was limiting what I ate...if I was out and wanted a snack, I couldnt pick up a burger, or grab a candy bar...Id pop into 7-11 and grab a banana instead cause it wasnt packaged food. By virtue of my diet, I made choices I wouldnt have if I was on no diet at all.
Anyway...silly thing to argue with someone and demand proof over. Its logical someone will lose weight if they change thier diet in some way and maintain the willpower to stick to it.

:D Well....yes that is true. But yeah, the twinkies were talking about are nasty little yellow cakes with nasty cream filling inside.
99% of the general population seem to love them...I just happen to think theyre gross.
Now...a boston creme diet...how come no one talks about that?!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys sorry my SW posts are crap ATM because I can't sign in on my laptop.. Only my phone. Shywebcamgirl and unbelievable looks like your "discussion" has come to an end anyway, but let's agree to disagree. Unbelievable has a lot of knowledge about diet and exercise and anyone who has seen his pics knows he's obviously passionate about it and practices what he preaches, but no need to get in a big confrontation about it. Shewebgirl was offering a suggestion that worked for her (maybe not the healthiest). Both of you posted confrontational posts instead of actually explaining why you disagree and it went no where so no point in continuing.
I checked out the eat-this-not-that and having worked in the health and fitness industry for over 10 years, I personally would not recommend it. I would call it the laziest diet ever. I believe no matter how you are wired that anyone can try better than making slightly different choices. Not to mention the billions of healthy benefits not weight related on health to exercise. And their is a science to losing weight in a healthy way it's quit simple. The only thing that as individuals makes us different is personal health issues and our own lifestyles and willpower. Yes there are lots of ways to lose weight, some could be detrimental to your health. Anyone is free to share their ideas here but I suggest the OP does some research into basic health, nutrition and metabolism before attempting one. Any cell biology text will explain the four small organic molecules and their macromolecules and how an absence of one or excess will effect cell function and health. Then make a decision on how you want to lose weight. I assume it wouldmt be the easy routes.
As far as rest of the thread. Let's keep sharing ideas. If their is a reason you disagree with an idea feel free to state why in a polite manner, but no point going back and forth. You can support your argument without a fight.

Further to my suggestion to do some research into microbiology. I thought I'd just remind everyone of the obvious. We eat food to provide nutrients to our cells. No calories are not created equal. What molecules they are broken down into will have consequences to every cell in your body. Most importantly - your brain! Personally I think good nutrition is all about keeping my CNS healthy and the rest falls into place. Nutrients are so important for all your body systems. Reading a text book (not a diet book) on nutrition may open your eyes to what you put in your body. I actually found eating healthy way easier when I realised it's importance and impacts. I wouldn't feed my dogs an unhealthy diet so why would I do that to myself? I think OP what personally has worked for me is anything you might see on one of those weight loss shows ie. the last 10lbs with Tommy Europe. It's a Canadian show but basically suggests what any trainer and nutritionist would suggest. I've also had success with the anti-candida diet but I would not recommend it long term, just as a quick start. It's too low carb which has implications for acidosis which is very bad news.

The 'diet' that works best for me is not to follow a particular diet...
From Monday - Saturday I'll eat clean. Lots of chopped veggies as snacks, fruit, protein shakes with water, corn thins, soups, salads, lean meat/fish. But I won't cut anything out. If I'm craving chocolate for example, I'll have a few bites of good quality chocolate to satisfy the craving and so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself.
Saturday and Sunday I'll be a bit more relaxed. I keep eating healthily but will treat myself with yummy healthy foods like a sashimi bento box that keeps it interesting but keeps me on track.
I'm working towards exercise goals - so I exercise 6x a week (an hour of cardio a day and weights every second day).
For me, it only works when I make it a lifestyle change as opposed to a program and not eliminate anything in particular from my diet (if I feel like something I can have it in moderation).
Also I always have a tasty homemade soup in individual servings in my freezer. Means I always have a healthy, low fat dinner option when I come home and can't be bothered cooking/have no fresh food in the house/am starving etc.

I couldn't agree more ! I only became happy with my figure after I started a diet I could live with ... forever . I think only then you can really develop a healthy long lasting relationship with food . Programs are great , while you're on them , but for anyone who got fat in the first place - quit the program and what is going to stop you getting fat again ? Will power? that didn't work the first time round ! I can understand someone wanting to shift some weight and quick , but ultimately they need to achieve in the long run what Belle described so perfectly , else it will be a continued cycle of weight creeping back on , and a crash diet to shed it again - While it works a gem for celebrities who can cash in on each 'come back ' , it only proves to play havock with our health and esteems.

I think its just a communication error. You two probably think of "diet" as two different things. Diet can mean eating healthy or certain things, or diet can refer to anything and everything you put in your body. She probably means she didn't eat healthy or certain things (so she doesn't consider it a diet), she just restricted her calories... which, to most people, also means you're on a diet, but not to her and some people.
Regardless, unless one was chronically overeating before, the only way to lose weight and keep it off without "dieting"/exercise, is to restrict your calories for the rest of your life. And if you aren't eating mostly "healthy" it basically mean you have to get used to barely eating.

Kombucha is super good for you as well...it contains lots of super healthy bacteria for your stomach, and even tastes kind of like a healthy champagne.
Chia seeds, I've heard, are wonderful for diets. They puff up when exposed to water, so they take up more room in your stomach, which leads you to eat less. I've read that they also slow down the sugar absorption process, so if you eat something really sweet (which could spike your insulin, leading to acne and other nasties), chia seeds help balance this process. They're also extremely anti-inflammatory (tons of Omega 3's) and contain all sorts of other goodies.
Another plug for going off of birth control if that's an option for you: I lost 15 lbs within two months of quitting HBC...and I wasn't even taking a pill that was known to cause weight gain (Ortho tri-cyclen Lo). Some of that was water weight for sure. But I also lost all of my cellulite.

Oh, and also remember to vary your diet. Rotate the foods you eat, and alternate between eating more and eating less. If you eat way too little, your body will go into starvation mode, and it will become VERY difficult to lose weight (since your body will be focused on conserving as much fat as possible). You also run the risk of losing a lot of muscle and retaining mostly fat if you don't give your body what it needs. You need to trick your metabolism by sometimes eating more and sometimes eating less (similar to alternating between different types of exercises to avoid plateaus).

I lost 20lbs with myfitnesspal just counting calories staying around 1200 and I try to eat low carb with my carbs coming from fruits only. I am trying to cut out "fake sugar" as well from diet pops and up the water. I do elliptical or treadmill 45-60min/day plus either machines at the gym or various fitness dvds like Jillian Michaels and boot camp type dvds. I think strength training and lower carbs really upped the weight loss. I have 10-20 more to lose to reach my goal weight.

This is good to know. I throw chia seeds in my coconut yogurt and protein smoothies. Drizzle it on my salads too. I got them for the extra omega 3s. They're easy to eat.
I can't drink regular Kombucha. Taste like shit. I only drink the juice form that comes in coconut/strawberry flavor. Can't think of the brand name now. Tastes good too and sweetened with stevia.

Chia seeds also seem to be incredible for your skin. I totally skipped my pre-period breakout.

Ooooh...and green smoothies are good for weight loss as well. You can consume a ton of spinach without even tasting it...and spinach couldn't be healthier for you. Just add spinach to almond milk / flax milk and throw a couple o' bananas in there. Process until smooth. Add chia meal if you'd like!
If you balance the fruit correctly, you can't taste the spinach at all. And putting spinach through a food processor gives your body the opportunity to absorb the maximum number of nutrients with minimal effort, since your stomach has problems breaking down cell walls (leafy greens have lots of cell walls).
Sorry...maybe I'm inadvertently turning this into a health thread instead of a diet thread. Let me know if I'm threadjacking!

I'm sorry you feel that way Shywebcamgirl. I never said you were being disrespectful. I said confrontational - Which by definition means clashing of ideas. Instead of ignoring bating comments and reporting them you both went back and forth, which is a "confrontation". I mean no insult by saying that. Next time another member is being rude to you, flag them straight away. No point in arguing, that's all I'm saying. I'm sure you will find from time to time people are rude or get worked up over topics. Report it.

I ended up using it *all* the time, and kiddo loved everything I made! Whatever I made, Id stick a carrot into it, cause they are actually super sweet and made anything taste fantastic.

Fair enough guys. I asked the fight to stop and the thread to be on track. As far as I know it's not up for mods to punish people publicaly. My goal is the thread to continue without argument... On topic. I've been a mod for a whole week and now I'm being attacked for trying to smooth over an argument without being a bitch and abusing power. We are all adults I don't see the problem with that. I thought the best course of action is to ask both to be adults and stop. But I guess I was wrong. Maybe I should start choosing sides and being rude to people. Please!!! Can we just stay on the freaking topic? I've seen far worse attacks on here that people worked through without mod interference. Sorry I didn't see the thread sooner but as I mentioned I can only log on my phone which makes reading and posting quite difficult.

For me, losing weight is all about cutting carbs--which is awful, because I'm a lazy vegetarian and want to fill up on pasta many nights :(
I've had a lot of friends who use diet pills and stuff, and they were skinny for a while. Then they stopped using them and/or got used to them and became very chunky. My druggie friends have a similar issue: bone thin when they're using; soft/chunky (with awful teeth/skin) when they're sober. I think you could probably use diet pills to give you a jump in the beginning of a period of intentional weight loss, but if you just keep taking the pills and don't change whatever made you gain in the first place, you're not going to get anywhere. I was an average weight and dropped down to being very thin in a short amount of time basically through starvation. I was very depressed and was hardly eating. A lot of my female friends (well, ex friends, because they're bitches) got jealous and mercilessly insisted I was going to put the weight back on in no time. Because my stomach was so damaged from the months of drinking liquor and hardly eating, I couldn't go back to my bad diet habits without becoming ill. I fully believe that had I not made major lifestyle/diet changes, I would have put all of the weight back on, maybe more. So although you're not into the "eating healthy/exercising" tips, I definitely recommend you look into them in order to maintain the weight you lose.

If your dead serious about dropping weight and getting in shape, do P90X. I did it last summer and my body has never looks as in shape as it does now. Im currently doing "CHAlean EX" right now, little less intense as p90x but still kicks my ass. Basically Im following it to a "T" and I have a protein powder I drink every day after a workout. Also just cut out carbs, only have 100% whole wheat bread, have a lotta egg whites, plain yogurt, fat free cottage cheese, fruit smoothies, unsalted penuts, dried cranberries/raisens, chicken, fish, veggies. For snacking I usually have this awesome huge dessert, you girls should try it! Its fat free pudding (chocolate/vanilla) then a cup of fat free jello then on top of that of course fat free cool whip...it is sooooo good and you get so much, tastes like ur having cake or something ;) lol
I have seen P90X. It looks great! Good to know it works so well. I never worry about weight too much. I go up and down without much effort.

Yeah, the depression diet doesnt work well for me, cause I eat boston cremes all day every day.
But..the ex bf diet was awesome..he took me out to eat like 3x a week, and ordered like everything off the menu, telling me "eat! eat!"
So yeah, when he left me for a girl who was like 90lbs soaking wet, and complained Id let myself go and was too fat. *seethed!*
But I dropped weight immediately, cause I wasnt eating out like that anymore.
The stress diet works too...I used to offer to loan my ex to my friends whenever they needed to lose weight.
One conversation with him, and youre too stressed and angry to eat.

What I did to stay slim (lol past tense) was everyday only eat a chicken caesar salad (when I wasn't pesca), and drink 1 smoothie. Like once a week I'd have a pastry and another time a week I'd have something like fruit snacks. I only drank water. I barely worked out. I was hungry like all the time, but I learned to like the feeling (lol). Some people's bodies just aren't meant to be really thin. Like the Kim Kardashian effect. Sometimes bodies just hold onto meat. Mine does.

lol its not as bad as it sounds. I'd skip breakfast, but I'd take a bunch of supplements and drink a bottle of water so that satisfied me. Then when lunch time came around, I was pretty hungry and had the large salad. Then for dinner I had the large smoothie. I got a little hungry toward the evening, but I usually ignored it and went right to bed. If it was bad, that's when I'd have fruit snacks. If I was extremely hungry in the morning, that's when I'd have a pastry. But I rarely got super hungry while eating like that. I just wasn't eating heavy, but I was contently full most of the time. Oh also, I'd reward myself with sugarfree chocolate caramels on days when I wanted sugar. But normally the smoothie was fine for the sugar fix.

Lately, I've been eating just one meal a day but I'm not depriving myself. Like yesterday, I had a subway sandwich which probably had around 400-550 calories. I also had a soda which had around 140 calories. This helps me from binging. Last night, I jogged in place and exercised a little. I woke up this morning, and I lost a pound and a half, which isn't a lot to most people, but I'm a small person so it was a lot to me.
I find myself craving Chipotle/Qdoba burittos, like constantly. What works for me is saying "I'll eat it tomorrow" and I say that everyday, and it stops me from going in the car and buying one, because I'll tell myself I'll eat one tomorrow and it never happens.
I was hungry like all the time, but I learned to like the feeling (lol).
I'm starting to feel this way too. Like when I'm hungry, I feel like my body fat is eating away at itself, which is a very politically incorrect statement, but it's how I feel.

I feel that way too! I need to start loving the hungry feeling again. I've been slipping on my diet the last 5 days.
I read that as "I've been slipping on my diet the last 5 years" and found that it described me perfectly...

I'm starting to feel this way too. Like when I'm hungry, I feel like my body fat is eating away at itself, which is a very politically incorrect statement, but it's how I feel.

This thread is single-handedly talking me into getting a blender
Save yourself the money and buy a food processor instead. They can do everything a blender can do, they last longer (in general), and they can do more than a blender can do.
I've had this one for five years and it still works like it's brand new: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DFP-14BCN-Processor-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B0000645TW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332982189&sr=8-2
One appliance is cheaper than multiple cheap appliances!

Hrmm...you know, youre probably right about that. But what could I blend with it? Any recipie ideas for using a blender? Im so used to sticking carrots in everything for the sweetness....I guess tomatoes could work too, but the acidity of them really affects me...
Bananas and berries + almond milk.

Also, y'all, keep in mind that protein isn't super great for your body (read The Protein Myth). People don't need much protein at all, actually. It's very hard on your kidneys to digest protein. So just be careful with it.

I'm addicted to soda. I know it's still bad for you but I've switched to Coke Zero since then.
